He's far too dark and dangerous...

The Duke of Danesbury is not a man to be trifled with. Dark and wickedly handsome, the man's reputation precedes him, and Lady Cassandra Winterset knows when to leave a man alone. She's a widow. after all, and versed in the harsh realities of the world. What she needs is a husband who will secure her future, not a man who will only provide a temporary escape from her reality. But that doesn't mean she isn't tempted... Still, she's smart enough to know when to stay and when to flee. And this duke is a man a woman should run from. If he chases... well, that's another game entirely.

She's the beauty he needs to possess...

From the first moment he lays eyes on her, Alex knows he has to have her. But the harder he tries to seduce her, the more elusive she becomes. He'd like to yell in frustration or applaud her amazingly dexterous skill. But if she wants to evade him, he'll play along. He's always been a hunter, and she is excellent sport. Until he actually catches her. And the moment he finally gets the kiss he's been craving...well, everything changes.

Because one kiss isn't nearly enough. And, as he tries for another and another, he begins to wonder who is the hunter and who is being hunted...

So good .

Full of passionate scenes between the two , contentious issues and chemistry that’s off the charts.

Finally we come to Damian, Duke of Danesbury! So far he is the only one to make it to the "party". Can I say not your regular party but with visions of beautiful women? Much to his surprise, the host is missing and he finds only one young woman there. Cassandra Winterset, widow who is looking for a husband.

Sparks fly, oh yes he is greatly attracted to her and he makes her a proposition to set up an arrangement between them. He has no use for marriage yet and he is very attracted to her... She is so confused due to her previous marriage to her best friend that had no passion.

A wonderful story of two show could heal each other if they will only let themselves believe and trust. Another great addition to this amazing series!

Will their instant chemistry be their undoing or redeeming ...

Cassandra is the reason behind the supposed bachelors party, a party without a guest as none made an appearance until this very moment.
Yet she so astonished by this unexpected visitor she tried to run away, but as it was physically impossible she retreated behind the prestance of being soon betrothed. The main idea behind the party.
But while it was the main goal for the entertainment, it is no actual reality. But it came mixed in her mouth.
Damian is quite the recluse, having payed the price of betrayal, he stayed away from Soviet and women since. So on his first taste of indulging his needs, he meets a woman who steers his blood. But she is so different from what he expected. Yet, it won’t stop him to have her.
Their romance is one of bringing two worlds together, she the daughter of a righteous vicar, with a failed marriage and him a duke with a past and trust issues.

A charming and sensual story of second chance.

Cassandra is the young widow who needs a husband - and that is what started this whole series. I love the prologue being the same in each book in this series. It reminds the reader of how we got to this place. Hearing Cassandra’s story and the fallout from her friend Raithe’s grand master plan is fun! How the Duke of Danesbury came to join the party, his immediate reaction to Cassandra, and their love story together is such fun! Great conclusion to the series.

** I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. **

Another wonderful historical romance from author Tammy Andresen. I have thoroughly enjoyed this whole series of matchmaking men, mischief and romance. They've been the perfect light hearted and engaging love stories to while away the hours, curled up.

Tammy is a terrific writer, particularly when it comes to her female protagonists. They're strong-willed and strong-minded, with touches of vulnerability and naivety, that contrasts well with the equally strong and stubborn heroes of each book.

I was most excited for this one and although I didn't love it as much as I had hoped, I still found it to be scintillating, entertaining and sweet. My only complaint was regarding our hero. I wish he had been a little bit more tender in the beginning.
Maybe tender is the wrong word but I found him to be almost too hard and cynical. I wanted him to feel more intensely. Or at least be slightly more demonstrative and not feel like he had to withhold his affections. Rather than portraying the quintessential stoical and brooding historical romance hero, he translated into a bit of a boor, cast in stone. It's only towards the end that he thaws, his emotions pouring out of him.

I do love a good marriage of convenience style story and this one was good but I think it had so much more potential in the beginning.

Damian, the Duke of Danesbury has travelled to the country for a house party full of debauchery. He has kept to himself after a tumultuous relationship that left him scarred mentally & physically. When he arrives at the estate, the only one there is a lovely widow Mrs. Cassandra Winterset, who married one of her best friends because he needed her - he was ill & she was so kind & gave him her nursing care until died of his illness last year & left her penniless. Her other best friend took her in & he made plans to bring some eligible, rich gentlemen to his estate under the farce of a wild house party, in hopes of one of them offering for Cassandra.

Damian & Cassandra are attracted to each other instantly, but can their hearts let them find more. Both have been hurt & treated badly & neither wants to marry but things just have a way of working out! I highly recommend this book - Damian & Cassandra are a wonderful couple that you really hope for their HEA.

This is the seventh book in the series & one of my favourites. The chemistry between Damian & Cassandra was electric, their attraction was immediate & only grew throughout the book. They were two people who had been hurt in the past & I loved their journey to their HEA. Another well written page turning read with strong characters, the icing on the cake for me was the epilogue which rounded the series off beautifully

A beautiful story of two hearts finding their place. Damian, the Duke of Danesbury, loved wrong and now he bears the scars both internally and externally. He finally thinks he is ready to live again. Cassandra Winterset has always been good so she made the choice to marry one of her best friends to take care of him. She only knows how to give and now she is a widow alone but for her one friend Raithe. Raithe had a plan but Damian was the wild card, he wasn't part of the plan. Can they find the strength to move on from their pain with each other?

Cassandra’s first marriage has left her feeling sad and inadequate. Even though she would like a love match, she has agreed to allow her friend Raithe help her find a husband. Damian, Duke of Danesbury, has been without female companionship since a disastrous end to his engagement years before. He is ready to end his drought and has invited himself to a party he believes is two weeks of debauchery. He also believes Cassandra is part of the entertainment, but she quickly corrects that mistaken idea. Despite the misunderstandings, Damian and Cassandra are drawn to each other. This is a fantastic story with a sad, sweet heroine and a dark brooding hero, great chemistry, an unexpected offer, an unpredictable outcome. When to Dare a Dishonorable Duke is seventh book and a wonderful addition to the Romancing the Rake series. I loved this story and highly recommend it and the series.

When to Dare a Dishonorable Duke, the 7th book in the Romancing the Rake series, was about Damian Danesbury, the Duke of Danesbury, and Lady Cassandra Winterset, widow of the late Honorable John Williams Winterset and childhood friend of Lord Balstead.
Cassandra, upon the death of her husband, was left homeless and without financial security. Lord Balstead had planned a house party to assist her in finding a new husband and had invited six of his unmarried, titled friends for her to choose from, although the men thought they would be attending a party full of debauchery. However, only one man actually made it to Balstead's home, and that was the Duke of Danesbury. Upon entering Balstead's home, the Duke mistook Cassandra for a light skirt and started making advances. When she informed him she was to marry, he then propositioned her to be his paramour instead.
This time, in this book, I didn't quite care for the main male character. The Duke was more interested in what he could get out of the relationship than what he could do for Cassandra. He did everything to push her into agreeing to his proposal, constantly countering each and every argument she threw at him as to why she shouldn't become his mistress. Even when she told him the answer was "no", he wouldn't accept it.
When Cassandra told him she was worried about how she would be treated by society after their affair ended, he told her she shouldn't worry about what others thought. He was still unconcerned about her reputation, before, during, or after an affair took place. All he was focused on was fulfilling his own desires of bedding her, and to hell with what anyone else thought...even Cassandra.
The Duke angered me so much because he wouldn't take her rejection of his proposal as her final answer. In my estimation, he went too far in pushing her to accept it. Why would an author write such a character for a love story? He was an absolute bully.
When Cassandra tried to tell Damian the truth about the reason for the house party, he refused to listen. He kept telling her to wait till later, wait till morning...even though she knew it was important to tell him before anything else developed between them. He was so determined to have his way that he refused to let her get a word in. When he finally found out the truth regarding the house party and the reason for it from Balstead, Damian was outraged and believed Cassandra had lied to him, even though she had tried to tell him the night before. For most of the book, I detested the "Hero"...I almost couldn't, in all honesty, think of Damien that way for the longest. But the more I read, the clearer his character became.
While there was a good deal of chemistry and passion between Damian and Cassandra, the drama and the angst were even higher. There was no humor though. Nothing fun, no laughter, nothing to ease the tension that was constantly present between them.
I wish the author had chosen a different way to end this series. This was one of the best historical romance series I've read, to date, and it was sad to see it end with this particular story. Perhaps it wasn't the story so much as how the author decided to portray the Hero. The storyline itself was good...but to have the Hero be such a dastardly character was a bit disappointing.
However, it was an ok book...just not worthy of five stars or to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection...sadly.

When to Dare a Dishonorable Duke
Romancing the Rake #7
Written by: Tammy Andresen

Damian, the Duke of Danesbury was the only invitee that actually showed up to the House Party that Raithe, Baron of Balstead had planned to help his dear friend Cassandra Winterset find a husband. All those others, well they of course were still at Seabridge Gate, with their new wives or fiancés. Even Raithe was there with his new fiancé.

Danesbury of course was expecting more than one lady, well in actual fact knowing the kind of parties Balstead was known for he didn’t really expect any ladies. So at first glance he thought Cassandra was there to “entertain” the men. Once that was sorted out and Cassandra shared the reason why Balstead had planned the party, Damian (the Duke) made an offer to Cassandra, not the offer she was expecting but still, an offer that she said she would consider.

Who wouldn’t want the attention of the Duke, he was tall, muscular, had dark hair and grey eyes that seemed to see through her and even with the scar on his face he was totally opposite to her deceased husband John. Cassandra had married John to take care of him. They were childhood friends, he was ill; she felt it was her job as one of his closest friends to take care of him. Then after just a few years, John passed away, leaving Cassandra penniless and needing to marry again.

In this the seventh book of the series, Andresen has given readers a story two people who needed someone who could help them realize what love really was. Damian had received his scar from a woman he thought he loved but then realized she wanted him for his status and money, when he ended the relationship she was the one who inflicted the cut to his face. Cassandra, whose heart was in the right place but who was sorely lacking in any kind of knowledge about marital life ended up feeling useless and worthless after John’s death.

So, her dilemma, take the Duke up on his offer or tell him no, even though she now thinks she is beginning to have feelings for him. Can she convince him that she is trustworthy and can be the kind of wife and lover that he needs or will a misunderstanding throw up all those walls again?

Will there be an heir in Danesbury’s future or will Raithe continue to help Cassandra find a husband who she can love?

This was a most enjoyable story. Andresen takes mistrust, misconception and self-doubt and weaves a story that brings two unlikely souls together and heals their hearts.

A complicated romance between widow Mrs. Cassandra Winterset and Damian the Duke of Danesbury. Damian arrived at Balstead's home and encounters no party of debauchery. He encountered Cassandra and assumed she was part of the party. He gave her a swoon worthy kiss like she never experienced. She did set him straight about her and the supposed party. It did not matter to him he was already attracted desperately to Cassandra. Cassandra grew up in a strict home as a vicar's daughter and taught passion was a sin. Meeting Damien had her questioning the marriage state. At first Damien offered Carte Blanche as his mistress but she declined. She was sorely tempted but said no. Damien had a lot to come to terms with. First, she was not disgusted with his disfigured face, she was gentle, kind and thoughtful. She would make a wonderful wife and mother. They both fell in love with each other but fought it especially Damien. He had been hurt before and was sure he would never give his love and heart to another. Somehow Cassandra showed him a different side of love and she was determined to do all she could to heal his heart and have him fall in love with her. Damien was a large man. He was intimidating and always got what he wanted until Cassandra. He finally came up with a solution to her needs and his own. She needed security and he needed an heir. They would marry, have the heir and keep their distance. In the end nothing turned out like he thought. Not only did he fall in love but gained an extended family he cherished. It was the Moorish family. Damian really respected and liked Mr. Moorish. A lovey personal intimate story with a happy ending. I do recommend it.

3.5 STARS

I purchased this as part of a 7 novella bundle offered by the author called ROMANCING THE RAKE: SEVEN REGENCY ROMANCES.

This one was somewhat different than the previous 6 which started to feel repetitive in theme. There was to be this big party and the male guests thought it was to be a party with women and booze. But, the host was trying to find a husband for his childhood friend. The host leaves to find out why his 5 friends hadn't shown up. Only one guest showed and he was alone with the host childhood friend. He doesn't want to marry her but wants her for his mistress.

The h has to marry since her deceased husband didn't provide for her. It is cat and mouse between the h/H. The H gets upset over something so simple that it didn't make sense. The h tried to explain what her reasonings were and it didn't help. I did feel sorry for the h and wanted her to run far away from the H.

There is lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 4 out of 5. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, no romance and steam. We do get an epilogue 1 year in the future, with some of the couples coming to a party and we hear about their lives. In book 1 and 6 of the series, the women thought they were pregnant, but after a year no mention of children, only the h from book 1 is now pregnant. That's the problem with reading books back to back in a bundle, you are more apt to remember those details - lol. (ljb)

Lady Cassandra Winterset is in need of financial security. Her best friend Raithe has a plan. He'll host a house party and invite men that would make a good match for her. Hopefully, one of the men will be a good match for her. The only problem: no one showed up. Raithe sets out to find out where they are leaving Cassandra home alone.
Damian, The Duke of Danesbury, shows up to Raithe's house party thinking he's going to have a good time at a desolute party. Little does he know, that no one else showed up. The only one at the house is a beautiful women named Cassandra.
Both cassandra and Damian have been unlucky in love. Cassandra is thinking she'd like to find love but definitely wants security. Damian lives daily with a physical reminder of how love treated him. They have an instant attraction which they agree to act on.
Will spending a little time alone together see them overcome their insecurities and find love together?

This was a wonderful story to read with a very satisfying end. When one has been hurt, emotionally and physically, as Damian has been, it's no wonder he's wary about opening his heart up again. As for Cassandra, having had a less than satisfying marriage and is now a widow, she knows she needs to marry again for financial security but also doesn't want a loveless marriage again. When the two meet, explosive passions flare but with both of them so wary and a misunderstanding standing in the way, they both need to work through their emotions.

Tammy Andresen has a way of writing that keeps you glued to the pages and her books are always a "must read", this one is no exception. I loved both Damian and Cassandra's characters and it was also fun to revisit some of the characters from the previous books in this series as well.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series from a new to me author. This final installment was no exception. The Duke of Dansbury, like the other male title characters, has a past that involves hurt. His is visible however, as his previous love scarred his face with a hot poker! Naturally he is hesitant to fall in love but needs to marry. We have been introduced to Cassandra in the previous book. Balstead set the wheels in motion for the whole series by inviting the male heroes to a week of debauchery. However, he had no intention of that. His intention was to find a husband for the widow of his best friend. This duke was not invited but came anyway. The rest had been waylaid by that washed out bridge.
Only reason this one is not five stars is that I thought it ended a bit suddenly. I'll leave the plot details for the reader as the backstory took up enough of your time. Enjoy this wonderful series. They could stand alone but I think are much better read in order.

WHAT A FANTASTIC READ!!! When to Dare an Dishonorable Duke by Tammy Andresen is book 7 in the Romancing the Rake series and I just love this series. This particular story is a tad darker than the others and I truly loved the feel of this book. It made me anxious the whole time I was reading it and wondering what was going to happen and how will this end. It is truly and original and Tammy writing is superb!! The heroine is sweet, the hero dark so it is a great balance. This story has a sad widow, a dark duke, a lie, always getting what they want, feeling inadequate, a failed marriage, inviting one self to a party that they think is debaucherous, a best friend and finally love. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!! Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone.

Balstead never intended for the Duke of Danesbury to attend his house party. However, when he is the only one to actually show up, misunderstandings abound as he mistakes Cassandra for a lady of the night. Evading him, Cassandra is taken aback when Alex puts forward a proposition, but her background and upbringing make it impossible to accept his offer. Danesbury has been hurt and betrayed and has vowed never to love again. When Cassandra's prevarication comes to light he feels he cannot trust her, until he puts himself in her shoes. This heartwarming Regency romance touched me, especially as both main characters displayed their vulnerability and found an answering call in one another. I loved Alex as a wounded hero and Cassandra's steadfast nature and kind heart touched me. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This is book 7 of the Romancing the Rake series. You do not need to read the other books in the series to read this one. In this book the Duke of Danesbury shows up at a house party that he thinks will be a lot of drinking and women. It is not. Lady Cassandra Winterset is the only one at the party. Everyone else who is suppose to be there never arrived. This party is really for Cassandra to pick a new husband from. Misunderstandings happen while the attraction between the two grows. This is another great book by Tammy Andresen. I received a free copy of this book for my honest review

This book was a strong ending to the series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the others first, since characters are mentioned from them and who they are isn't really explained.

The men who were invited to meet Cassandra under the guise of a party ended up marrying the Moorish sisters. The single man who shows up - Damian - wasn't originally invited, but ends up being the one to win Cassandra's heart. The story was nicely written and perfectly paced, and I enjoyed it a great deal.

Cassandra was a penny less widow. She needed a husband but didn’t want one!

Cassandra’s lifelong friend was using a ruse to find her a wealthy husband. He invited some rakes to a house party of debauchery. But there wasn’t a party at all. The men didn’t show up so Raithe went to look for them. Damien, Duke of Danesbury showed up and mistook Cassandra for a light skirt. He offered her financial security for becoming his mistress. Their story is a very interesting read. They are both two damaged people. Will they be able to overcome their troubled past to find love?

You will have to read to find out. This is my honest review.

This book was part of a loose series but you can definitely read it as a standalone. However, if you think at all that you want to read the series, I suggest reading in order for a better experience.

This was a quick read, decently written. Just like the book before I was a bit ambivalent. I liked the tension between the two, especially their first meeting. I just couldn't accept how the "lie" was such a big deal (but thankfully was quickly resolved) and honestly couldn't see how they fell in love. In lust? Sure. Love? Not so much.

Another short read in this amazing series.

The Duke arrives for a week of sin and fun instead he finds he is the only one there, none of the others have arrived and before him is a beautiful widow Cassandra Winterset.

This series has been full of fun and most of the characters from previous books are included, highlights the fun and we know what is happening.

Highly recommend

Stand alone but it is a wonderful series please enjoy them all.

This was the last of the set of books mainly centering on the Moorish sisters. Here it‘s more an outlier story - the widowed friend of a someone who ends up with a cousin. A lot of to-ing and fro-ing for a vicar‘s daughter - she‘s done the duty/good person marriage but is now left virtually penniless and needing someone to save her. It won‘t surprise romance readers that all works out in the end.

Damian and Cassandra meet at her friend Raithe’s house. It was supposed to be a scandalous party but it was to be a party to get Cassandra a new husband. So Damian had ideas when he arrived and kissed her soon after meeting her. He offers to make her his mistress. To stop him she lies and says she is to be married.
It is an interesting story of two people who have been hurt and are afraid of being hurt again. An enjoyable book.

She had no choice but to seek marriage again. Having her first husband die, when she was only 22, and without home or money left to her, she really only had the one choice, morally.
Although the Duke's offer was tempting, it wasn't who she was. Her upbringing defined that she wouldn't find it acceptable, regardless of how tempting he made it.

I am tired of reading brooding hero who runs from love. The ending was too sudden and too convenient. Since this is supposed to be romance story, I would have liked to see the hero to work harder to get the heroine.

Series Worth Reading

This series was well worth the time reading. All the Heroes/Rogues and Herions were well matched. Although the relationships developed quickly with each couple, the emotions were real and very physical.
