Lost 1 star because towards the end & special episodes the second leads were given so much more storyline (not hating on them but 😮💨) Ughh I need moree Yuan, Haesa anddd Seol development after all the hardships were dragged out too long.
I binged read this. I literally waited for this manhwa to be finished before reading this.
And I can say that this is an Underrated Masterpiece Manhwa. The Artwork, Characters, and Plot are so Amazing.
Honestly at first I thought this is boring but oh men it took a turn, it bamboozled my emotions after that few boring chaps. The Lead Couple and Second Couple's story are so interestingly tragic in a good way.
The Author has a big brain for sewing a story of their 1st life and their 2nd life. Kudos.
Thank you so much Author and the Artist for this Manhwa.
First of all, the art is absolutely gorgeous. I am in love with the artist's art style and I especially like how she draws her female characters. Although Haesa and Yuan are on the cover of the webtoon, I think the four of them - Haesa, Hwaye, Muho and Yuan are all equally important characters in the story. Their fates are inextricably intertwined and the way everything unravelled kept me glued to my screen. I think the way the author weaved in their past lives as the story progressed and as more of the truth was revealed was a really smart move - it kept me engaged with the story and the plot moving.
I loved how strong the female characters are but by far, my favourite female character is Hwaye. Not only is she a strong character, but she's also a compelling character with an interesting background. By contrast, Haesa seemed kind of plain but each character has their own roles to play. Each character is distinct in their own way - they have their strengths and weaknesses, and the story wouldn't be the same if any of them were missing. I also liked the development of the relationships between the character. Haesa, Hwaye and Muho (and Muha) grew up together until tragedy striked and none of them were left unscarred. It was only 10 years later (yes, there's a time skip!) that things started changing.
I felt bad for the four of them because they had to suffer and overcome so many hurdles because of some damned priest from their past lives, but the ending was good because they could finally be happy and didn't have to worry about their pasts catching up to them. Another character which I thought was interesting is Ryung. He went through a tremendous change and it did make me sad how he didn't make it in the end. He really deserved to have a happy ending too, because he did change for the better and after all, he was a victim as what Yuan said.

Black Winter is a gut wrenching story about love, fate and friendship. It’s beautifully composed with complex characters and romance that made me want to die. Everything about this manwha is so pure. The love that these characters share for one another is so personal and emotional. The author uses seasons and creative imagery to express character growth and the trials and tribulations they have to face. I loved the ending so so much as well. I was longing for a life I did not live, characters I did not know, and an experience that never existed.
I want to end this review by saying that I had the time of my life reading this manwha and for me, that’s so much more important than a piece of fiction being “perfect”. There were definitely some inconsistencies throughout the story but the dialogue and the prose make up for it. I will surely be reading the author’s other work, “Serena” as well 🫶🏼
