Another woman, Helen, is saved from death by the Sidhe and transported back in time to Medieval Scotland. She is saved from drowning in Lock Ness by the harbormaster Niall. Helen is a practical woman. Trained as an FBI analyst she tends to figure things out quickly. She changed professions before the accident and became a PI. She was very good but very naive in the ways of the world. She tries to adjust to being around people. All she ever did before was work, work and more work. Never had friends, nor social life nor relationships. As a matter of fact, she has never known physical pleasure. What I liked most about this book was that Helen was able to use her analytical skills and PI skills to help the clan and village defeat a ferocious enemy fae. She worked with Niall and the Laird and his people. Between Niall and Helen, they were able to deal with the deaths of the missing fishermen, the unrest and clamor for action by the villagers and deal with their chief instigator Perry. Perry accused the Loch Ness monster Nessie for the deaths of his only family his two brothers. No matter what evidence they presented to Perry that it was not Nessie he was never convinced. Perry lead an angry mob of villagers to lure Nessie and kill her. What they failed to understand was that Nessie was a fae creature an ally sent to keep them safe from any evil fae. Niall saved poor Nessie but she was out of commission unable to help with the attacks on the people. Because Niall and Helen were working so closely together the attraction was there and Niall could no longer resist. Niall has an adorable four-year-old Eamon who was either happy, sulking or throwing a temper tantrum the likes no one had ever witnessed. Perry used to be Niall's friend and kidnapped Eamon to finish his dastardly deed to kill Nessie. No one could have predicted the outcome. A very good read. Suspenseful, tension filled, strewn with superstition and helplessness. A real page turner. I do recommend it.

A MUST-READ, time-travel romance!

Marrying Scottish folklore with a realistic portrayal of how people react to the unknown and the stresses that loss can ignite, Ms. Preston delivers a captivating story that both incites one’s imagination and delivers a seductive romance between a 16th-century Scottish man and a pragmatic ex-FBI contemporary woman. While the slow burn romance between Niall and Helen grows, they are investigating an ever-increasing disappearance of fishermen from Loch Ness. While Niall’s 4-year-old, Eamon, steals Helen’s heart, the other women of the keep who have traveled back in time help her to cope with the changes and realities she now faces. Added is threatened revolt of some villagers who blame the monster of the Loch for the empty and bloodied fishing rafts of late. Niall, with Helen’s assistance, has to solve the mystery before those villagers try to harm the very monster that has kept them safe these many centuries. Using her detailed and eloquent prose, Rebecca Preston tells the most wonderful story using all of the feels, suspense, and action that readers love, and then tops it off with a simmering and sensuous story of new love. The Good and The Bad

I have read this author for a number of years, and while I like some aspects of her work, other parts drive me more than a little crazy. This book had both elements, unfortunately. As has happened in the last year or so, the author got the book edited by another author. Unfortunately, either this other author (Ms. Lance) is not a good editor or this book's author (Ms. Preston) doesn't take suggestions because there are so many issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage—to the point where I find it utterly distracting. But, on the other hand, I enjoyed much of the plot and character aspect of this book, like when the heroine is figuring out where she is and adjusting to life in medieval Scotland. I loved the curious little boy and her interaction with the healer. There were some other good things later on, too, but I particularly liked those at the beginning of the medieval portion of the book. (By the way, I thought the contemporary times part took up too much of the book and that much of the first part of that section had severe info-dumping—which I never like to see—that really didn't need to be shared because it had little relevance to the time-travel medieval Scotland part.) If this author could keep the good elements and get rid of the bad aspects, she'd have a relatively good book. But the errors and issues are so glaring and repeated throughout. Sigh!

After her initial amazement, Helen was showing acceptance of her journey into the past and beginning to feel a certain attraction to her savior. Harbormaster Niall Grant, widower with a young child, was alone struggling with raising his son and with the leadership of his group of fishermen. Helen became a great need for her son and even more, for him. But Helen wasn't sure how to fit in with them, full of doubts and concerns that seemed to overwhelm her at every turn. What if ... seemed to be her mantra. A very annoying one! When a great threat hung over the inhabitants of the castle and the town despair was present, decisions were made, and everything was put at risk. For a clever analyst, Helen was very hesitant about her feelings for Niall and her approach to the problem at hand Too much uncertainty. But considering that she had previously led a lonely life full of dissatisfaction, it is not surprising that the new experience had her, at the beginning, out of focus. Fortunately, she finally decided to use the knowledge of a criminal analyst and it was fruitful. The story has action, many strong emotions and situations that felt real, suspense that escalated each time, a lot of patience was necessary, monsters, the villain that makes everything worse, violence, romance and passion. Voluntarily reviewed this copy.

Another woman is saved from death by the Sidhe and transported back to 16th century Scotland. Helen was a FBI Investigator until she was burnt out on the job and became a PI. Her car plunged into a river, but she is rescued from Loch Ness the harbormaster Niall. Niall, a widower, along with his 4 year old son, Eamon, nurse her back to health. Helen meets the rest of the women from the future and makes friends with them all, something she was missing in her "modern" life. There are a string of mysterious deaths on the Loch that some of the villagers blame on Nessie. Helan uses her investigative skills and along with Niall works to solve the problem and save Nessie. The book is well written, although with all the books I've read by Rebecca Preston, she really bogs down the story when these women get into their heads way too much. I get it, they have to make choices, leave family, friends, jobs, etc. for the men they have come to love, but 1/2 0f almost every chapter is this mental fight. And these books are 50-60 chapters long. ENOUGH with the internal stuff. That keeps this from a 5 star book for me.

This book was the best sofar. The first thing I liked about this book was: Helen is the first time placed woman to embrace her reality faster than any of the other women in the other books in this series. The second was: Nessi (yes, I know she is called "monster" in the book. But to me she IS NOT a monster) was a big supporting character in this book. Oh, warning do not make Maggie mad.
Looking for Trouble but October is so far off! Looks like im going to start reading the Highlander Of Time Series now while I wait for it to come out.

Helen is a former FBI analyst and is thrown back in time to help solve a mystery of disappearing fishermen in Loch Ness. Niall rescues her and cares for her while she is sick. There are other women clan that have come from the future but Helen has been sent back to help Niall solve the mystery. There was very little time spent on "where am I, really" or disbelief from either side as both were aware early on that she was from the future. The story focused on the relationship between Niall and Helen and included Helen stepping in to help with Niall's son. The mystery, with Nessie making an appearance, was the reason they were together. I thought it was interesting that the locals wanted to kill the monster that had been protecting them and part of Niall and Helen's job was to save Nessie, save the fishermen and find an HEA.

Loved it! Helen was a privite eye until she found herself in 16th century Scotland, having been dragged out of the loch by Niall the harbormaster. As in the other books in this series, she struggles with her new reality and an Unseelie Fae problem. This time there are Kelpies dining on villagers. Niall is a hunky widower with a 4 year old son, who is struggling with the loss of his mother. Helen finds herself enthralled with both of them. Be prepared to find yourself in another time and place as you are unwittingly sucked into this story and the world of the fae. It is well written with emotional ups and downs, enough action to keep you on your toes, and endearing characters who you will hope to see again in the next book in this series.

Helen, a workaholic is thrown back in time. She after recovery discovered she is in the 16th century. Whoa! Niall and his son saved her. He is falling for also. Nice. Problem? She needs to help him solve a mystery. Helen is part of a series so naturally she is introduced to others who have been seen to the time for a reason. Helen who seems to be always working needs to embrace the lack of eh always hustle and bustle. She learns to enjoy the lack of finding the bad Guy all the time. Love is in the air. Now, the part I don’t like is the overthinking stuff, i miss home and cobwebs of not accepting her presence is needed to help Niall. I’ve overlooked the pet peeves of grammar and such. Good story line and suspense..

She goes back in time to the time where she should have always been. Private Investigator Helen is about to die at the hands of the man she was trailing. She captured him but not before he tampered with her brakes. Now her car goes off the road and crashes into a river. But instead of drowning she wakes up five hundred years in the past in Scotland, having been saved by magical beings who believe she has a purpose in that time, and she is needed. She meets other twenty first century women brought back in time also, finds potential love, but first help the laird and the villagers stop evil magical beings called kelpies, who have been praying on villagers. This story has action, suspense, and drama.
I tell you with all these modern ladies now living in the past in the Highland they just might run out of room. Then again these ladies are fully able to deal with the past. In this case, we have an FBI agent hooking up with highlander Niall and oh guess what there is a mystery to solve. This tale was so engaging I loved the characters they were so realistic. On top of this being one great plot, it is a wonderfully written piece. I hope you check it out! I am happy to recommend this gem. This 5th book in the Highlander Forever Series is a very well-written time travel romance story with wonderful characters that are very cautious. There is drama, intrigue, tension, turmoil, danger, and she looks like his lost love and that cause issues for these characters. This story has action, adventure, betrayal, twists/turns, chemistry and love with a HEA that must be worked for. These characters have wonderful personalities that are brought alive by this great Author who I will be reading more books by.

I love time travel romances. I just wish it was true and we could travel through time. This is not one of your fast paced love afairs this one is a slow but bright flame. Helen helps solve a mystery that is happening with people coming up missing. We have suspense, action and great characters and story line.

Another great book in this series, although they all start in a similar way they are not boring. This time we join Helen in her journey from the 21st century back to sixteenth century Scotland. As with the other books there is a fae threat, and a romance with a happy ending. I am really enjoying this series and look forward to the next one.

Interesting Tale! I enjoyed reading this suspenseful time travel romance set in the Scottish Highlands. The suspense of how Helen and Niall will overcome the threat of an invasion of Kelpies will keep you turning the pages—wanting to find out what could happen next. This is such fun to read. I love the PI coming to terms with the huge changes, including possibly becoming a step mother. A nice balance between self reflection, supernatural and time travel. Great characters, wonderful attention to detail.
