The Vampires of Athens Box Set

Rate this book
Seventeen-year-old Gertrude Morgan, the only child of one of the wealthiest couples in America, is shipped away from her home in New York City to the American school in Athens against her will. She would rather remain in the world of her books. After settling in with her poor and boisterous host family, she discovers that the vampires and Greek gods that people her favorite books actually exist!

Yes. The city of Athens has secrets.

Her host family calls them "tramps." In Greek, they are called vrykolakas, or "vryks," which sometimes gets translated to "freaks." They are the vampires of Athens, created centuries ago by the Maenads. They live in caves beneath the acropolis without economic resources and according to rules imposed on them by the Olympians. First and foremost, they are forbidden from turning humans into vampires. The human will not turn unless all of the blood is drained, so a vampire is allowed to drink up to one pint per month from a willing mortal. Some mortals are willing because a vampire bite will infect the body for six hours, and during that time, the mortal has the powers of the vampire: flight, invisibility, strength, speed, x-ray vision, and mind control. Such great power can become irresistible, though dangerous and addicting to mortals...

As Gertie uncovers the unfathomable secrets of this ancient city, she is drawn to the beauty and deep thoughts of a boy she first met on the bus into Athens--Jeno. Her host family and another boy she later learns is a demigod warn her to stay away from him, but her curiosity gets the best of her and she unwittingly becomes a catalyst in an uprising led by Dionysus, the god of wine and lord of the vampires.

I had read the first book and omg! I was already reading something else but after reading a few paragraphs I ended up finishing the first book in 6 hours and wanted more so I got the trilogy and started all over again at the beginning and it was well worth it. I am glad Eva is going to continue the storyline and can't wait until next year.

Vampires and Gods Oh My!

At first it started slow but it turned out to be a very good story. Emotional with well made characters that kept you guessing what they would do next. If you love action, twisted plots, romance and an overall good adventure then do read this series. I highly recommend it.

Great series!

This series started a little slow in the first book, with a basic love triangle that has become all too familiar. But as the stories continued they got better and better! The third was BY FAR my favorite filled with tons of mythology and more action than the others. Can’t wait for the new series!

Interesting Greek Gods and Vampires Trilogy.

These books definitely geared for young adults. But the story was interesting how Greek mythology was mixed with vampires and modern day demigods. These books would appeal to anyone who likes the fantastic mixed with a little romance. A nice read.

Overall this series was pretty good. The first book was hard for me to get into because Gertie kind of got on my nerves. By the time you reach the last book she's redeemed a bit. It will be interesting the know if Eva continues with a spin off on this series.

Great adventure story

So much Greek mythology wrapped into one amazing story!! 👏 I truly enjoyed reading about Gertie, Hector and Jeno's crazy love triangle. But it's so much more than a love story. There is so much adventure and vampires, God's and monsters!! Great series!!

I found this book to be average, there wasn't anything particularly wrong with it, I just could not connect to the characters at all. The story itself was quite imaginative.

great

I thought the books were a little long but every detail was worthy and I enjoy seen Hades as some god with feelings and how he care for his family.

My mother told me if I don't have anything nice to say

This reads like a person in middle school wrote it. I kept reading hoping it would get better, but it did but.

This is a very good series and how it brought in the Gods, Goddess, and Vampires into one story was totally awesome and I ended up staying up late every night I was reading this series. This is my first series by Eva Pohler and I can't wait to read more of her amazing work. If you have not read anything by Eva what are you waiting for. This is nothing like any of the Vampire Stories I have read over the last three years.

Perfect mix of Greek Mythology and Vampirism. Gertie always reads about heroes and adventures, now she has one of her own. With her nose finally out of her beloved books, she sees the world around her in Athens and finds she's finally home.

These books have a great new take on vampire myth and lore.
It all begins when Gertie has to travel to Greece for a year as a student at the American School. She cannot believe her host family and wants nothing more than to read vampire books until she can go home! Soon the huge adventure begins and she discovers that ancient Greek Gods and vampires are real! Gertie soon finds that the cute Greek boy she has a crush on is a vampire. Gertie learns that many legends in her beloved books are true! Of course she has to stay in Greece now!!! In the adventures Gertie is put in the middle of a war between the Gods and Vampires,
The plots are interesting and flow with twists and turns at a fast pace. (I could not put any of them down!)
The characters are very developed, I like the friendships that they gain and how bonded they are to one another.
I hate spoilers so I'll stop before I do!!!! I loved these books and recommend them!

Great box set

The first book started off a little slow for me, it took me a while to actually get the feel of the book and want to keep reading. I make a point to finish the book no matter what and I'm glad I did because by the end of it I was really liking the characters and story. The second and third book were even better and really held my attention through it.
