From Japanese kids author Shigeo Watanabe comes a real creative way to get kids to enjoy food, one where there are no set rules, AT ALL! A humble baby bear tries to do the utensil thing with the soup, salad and spaghetti lunch. But he is a bear, so the "proper" way to dine doesn't quite go as planned. So he comes up with a solution: pile all that stuff on the plate and just scarf the damn thing down and give a happy burp when done! How hardcore cool is that! Any person who breaks the rules of what's considered status quo is the kind of person I like when it comes to standing up for children and how we treat them. We can learn from this man. We should. Four stars Watanabe for you!!!!
I don't like this as much as How do I put it on?. However, I find Watanabe one of the authors who does toddler well, maybe 3.5. I use this for my food/Thanksgiving program for the young ones. 11/14/12
You can see Llewy relating to this as you read it. It's rare that much of what he reads connects directly to his own experience, so that's nice. Sadly its last page, where the bear has a cup upturned on his head, is responsible for the now semi-regular great hi-jinks of an upturned bowl on Llewy's head. Still, a good book is worth it. Read at 19 months.
