Spur Morgan is an old, very old, Deputy US Marshal. He is too ornery to die and too stubborn to retire. He is still smarter than the gangs he goes after, who are dumber than a bunch of rocks. The up and coming young deputies he has to work with are one notch ahead of the gangs in the smarts department.
Peter Brandvold – Spurr Morgan: Western Double – Reviewed 5/26/20 – Read 5/20-22/20 Spurr Morgan was an old law dawg, always protecting the innocent's, now he’s after Vultures, lookout varmints he is now on your back trail!!!
After his gang, the Vultures, broke Clell Stanhope out of jail just before he was to be hanged. Stanhope and his band of killers went on a shooting spree killing everyone that was in the posse that captured him. Just as he was going to shoot Sheriff Dusty Mason, a shot rang out, and the gang took off leaving Dusty as the only survivor of the posse. As the cutthroats travel to their hideout they raided another small town and killed the law, plus others, kidnapping two of their women. A soiled dove named Trixie and the widow Erin Wilde, owner of the mercantile. After Clell and his men ransacked the town, killed Erin’s young son, and grabbed her, they took off again.
Meanwhile, Mason had sent telegrams to the Marshall’s office requesting Spurr Morgan, also another one to the Pinkertons. He wanted them to help him track down the varmints that had done this to his town and many others. As the men met up they hit the trail, only to meet up with a group of townsfolks burying their dead... Erin Wilde’s town of Sweetwater. Now the law has even more reason to find these low down sowbellies! They needed to catch up with the Vultures soon and rescue the womenfolk.

What did I like? Well, first off Spurr has been a character in some of Peter’s other books, and I have this picture in my mind’s eye of him. As you know, I think he looks just like Sam Elliott… Now melt in your toes women, cause he is on the trail again. This is a tough one as he has really aged but is still looking fine in my eye. Troubled more with his heart than in the past but he still can track with the best of them. Aged just like fine wine and honed with the skill of a master! My heart ached every time he went through a spell, and he was put to the test of his job, but as always he did what others didn’t think he could. He was and still is the best!
What will you like? I don’t want you to think that this is going to be a slow read or that there will be no action. Far from it! Spurr and all of the good guys live up to the reputation of the men of the west. Unbelievable action made even more dramatic due to Spurr’s age. All of the men are put to the test of skills while tracking these coyotes! The storyline is unique and fantastic with each character having its own incredible space for action and tense situations. The ending will just blow your mind. I loved it… I was looking for something over the top and Peter pulled it off. Don’t miss this amazing read, available now.
Move over Ben Stillman, as there is a new gun in town: Mr., or better known as Marshal Spurr Morgan!! Starts pretty fast and ends of a very fast express, of sorts!
Certainly deserving of the five stars I awarded this compelling western masterpiece of heartwarming entertainment from beginning to end! U. S. Marshal Spurr , gets the worst of the worst,or it definitely appears that way. Spurr is definitely a man to be reckoned with, and he doesn't take no for an answer. Outstanding storylines throughout the entire book, and the character selections were outstandingly selected for their commanding assignments. I have read quiet a few of Mr.Brandvold's extensive book releases, but these two stories definitely are two of his very best. I was impressed when Yakima Henry became part of Spurr's effort to bring justice once again in the first story! Certainly recommend this compassionately entertaining revelation of old American western folklore adventures to everyone, but you dyed in the wool western lovers will definitely find it hard to put the book dow. I started a little late, but finished the first story before I put the book aside! Completed the next book the next day, though. A very heartwarming compilation series of outstandingly compilation of of outstanding western adventures!!!😃
Just when you think the gritty nature of the book has gotten bad, you'll find the author was just starting! There's no fluffy romance, flowers, and love in this book unless you consider that everyone needs someone, something, and some time in life to think of those things to love. At many points I figured the story had come to a natural ending, yet it continued. When I thought the detail was just a tad bit too descriptive, the author pulled it back. The scenes, plot, and characters were very well developed. I think I'll be smelling the gun powder myself for some time to come!
Two rambling tales about a Wiley old Marshal with more lives than the Wiley Coyote!
Old Spurr spells his name with 2rr's cause he double rough and ready. Spurr travels far and wide bringing in outlaws for the Denver Regional Marshal's office. And maybe, just maybe, he's found a place to call home and a woman to snuggle beside in retirement.

Peter Brandvold has woven raw and heart-stopping, truly exciting stories around a loveable character: Spur Morgan. These wonderful stories are as enjoyable as the Yakima Henry tales sporting the same kind of earthy courage and flawed characters that are common to Brandvold. Read and enjoy! Satisfaction is a sure result!
Great book! I never tire of reading anything by Peter Brandvold! This was a excellent story and what I think will be the end of Spurr Morgan. He's been a interesting character to read about and I was glad he ended the story the way he did. I'm off to read another book by this author!!
Peter Brandvold has a knack for creating fast-paced westerns with all of the right elements, especially realistic characters like Marshal Spurt Morgan. Despite being a bit long in the tooth, Morgan's pure grit keeps him going where others either quit or succumb to "lead poising!"
I enjoy all of the authors stories especially his Ben Stillman novels. I enjoyed this character Spur Morgan a lot, good story and kept you interested the entire time. Enough twists to keep it interesting.
This was a good couple of stories that would make a dead man sit up and take notice. These two old guys can get in more trouble than they know what to do with and the story is fast moving and full of action and adventure.
This was good western. Usually the main character is young, in perfect health and good looking, this new view of cowboy life was refreshing. The story was well presented, with both humor and sarcasm.
You can't better bang for you buck then a Spurr Morgan novel.
Great western story that will be enjoyed by any reader. This is a page Turner that keeps you reading for hours with each turn of events. A happy ending is always good to finish a good read.
Enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down until the end. Lots of activity that varied and maintained my interest throughout, though some of it seemed a little farfetched at times.
With all the metaphors, euphemisms and just enjoyable banter. I find the author very talented and never seems to lack another narrative that won’t let you go. Will take a rest, then back this enjoyable character. Tom Burkhart
A lot of action in this book. Spurr did a great job as a lawman even if he was an older man. Lots of experience in hunting the bad guys down. Thank you Peter Brandvold for an awesome read.
A great read from beginning till the end. A page turner wanting to find out what was going to happen next. Adventure, great characters, great storyline, and a little romance. Also, A great price for many enjoyable hours of reading.
Another excellent rough and tumble double feature western by Peter Brandvolt... Spur Morgan eases his frail heart condition by taking nitro pills which he chases with whiskey. It jump starts him several times in both of these adventure novels. RECOMMENDED!
Fat paced and always has you on the edge of your seat. I was very happy to see Yakima Henry in the first book about Morgan Spurlock Yakima Henry is my favorite character I hope we see his further adventures
A lot of unbelievable action but good reading. A few misspelled or wrong words. But plenty of sex and action. Great descriptions of the areas depicted.
I've read all of the books in this series. The stories keep you involved wanting to see what is next.
A well written and fast moving Western. This writer knows how to keep his readers turning the pages. It is filled with action and suspense. I can always look forward to reading his novels. I highly recommend his novels.
Stories about a hard nosed US Marshal who lives hard and has a tender heart for the ladies. Overall the stories are are good, with action and fairly well written.
