Chromatic is the second book in the Cyber Overture YA dystopian series that features artificial intelligence, surprising twists and turns, unique characters, and a kick-ass heroine.
If you like Idoru or The Music Shop, then you will love Chromatic.

This was not a one-star book because the author is good with dialogue and creates interesting characters. But the book was only half as long as it needed to be. The plot doesn't make sense the way it is presented. I get that it is the second book in a series in which I did not read the first book. But it needs a more stand-alone quality of its own to be the second book in a series. The first chapter contains different characters and is from an earlier time than rest of the book. And it is never properly connected to what comes after. There is a serious lack of exposition. And there are too many plot lines and too many characters to be presented in a book this short. As a science fiction book, it doesn't explain the science of the future music industry it is trying to present, so that sets up a lack of good world-building too. There are things in this book that could make an excellent story. But it is little more than the bones of a story. There needs to be more flesh on those bones to give it life.
Chromatic is book two in a series and I like how the author tells you at the beginning of the book-you can get book one for free. Right away I liked the main character Alice and quickly became immersed in the story line. The novel is set 50 years in the future so AI is part of daily life. Great writing, a fast paced story and interesting characters make this a must read!
