Christ-Centered Exposition

Exalting Jesus in Job

Rate this book
Exalting Jesus in Job is part of the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary series. Edited by David Platt, Daniel L. Akin, and Tony Merida, this commentary series, to include 47 volumes when complete, takes a Christ-centered approach to expositing each book of the Bible. Rather than a verse-by-verse approach, the authors have crafted chapters that explain and apply key passages in their assigned Bible books. Readers will learn to see Christ in all aspects of Scripture, and they will be encouraged by the devotional nature of each exposition presented as sermons and divided into chapters that conclude with a “Reflect & Discuss” section, making this series ideal for small group study, personal devotion, and even sermon preparation. It’s not academic but rather presents an easy reading, practical, and friendly commentary. The CCE series will include 47 volumes when complete. The author of Exalting Jesus in Job is David L. Allen.

I used this book to lead a small bible study group with my co-workers and I couldn't recommend it enough. I've used two other books from this series (Christ-Centered Exposition) to lead bible studies on the book of Acts and 1 & 2 Timothy. Those books were so helpful that I am glad I decided to use this commentary for a study through Job.

The content was rich and great at guiding group discussions. Each chapter had questions and talking points that I found very helpful, especially since Job is mostly poetry. This book helped recap and tease out key concepts found within the poetry and made difficult topics and concepts easier to understand.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking to better understand the book of Job, and any of the expository commentaries on other books as well.

Decisively mediocre. There is nothing particularly good or bad about this commentary. It basically just summarizes the passages in Job and gives some theological framing at the beginning and end of the book.
