Town of Trouble #1

Here Comes Trouble

Rate this book
Former air force pilot Max Taylor has gained something of a reputation with the high-society ladies he shuttles around on his charter airline service. And the rumor mill has been out of control since he's become a chapter in the tell-all book written by a late congressman's widow! Looking to lie low while the courts restore his good name, Max has decided to hide out with his grandfather in the tiny town of Trouble, Pennsylvania. Sabrina Cavanaugh isn't the sultry, mysterious heiress she's pretending to be. In fact, she's a junior book editor who happens to be on a mission--to nail Max Taylor for the womanizing creep he is. Having worked hand in hand with the loose-lipped widow in writing her memoirs, there's no way Sabrina's going to let some spoiled (and hot) flyboy kill her career-making project with a lawsuit. It looks as if the love of a lifetime is on the horizon.

New York Times Bestselling author, Leslie Kelly writes sexy romances and dark romantic thrillers. A four-time RWA RITA Award nominee, eleven-time Romantic Times Award nominee and 2006 RT Award winner, Leslie has become known for her delightful characters, sparkling dialogue, and outrageous humor in her romances, and for the dark grittiness of her thrillers. Since the publication of her first book in 1999, Leslie has gone on to pen more than forty sassy, sexy romances for Harlequin Temptation, Blaze, and HQN.

In 2009, Leslie began tapping into her love for dark suspense by penning several books under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish. The Black CATs and Extrasensory Agents series quickly put Leslie on the must-read list of romantic-suspense fans.

Tired of writing under various names, Leslie decided to go into her next genre--futuristic thrillers with a suspense element--under her real name. She released her dark, gritty Veronica Sloan books, and reissued the Black CATs series, as Leslie A. Kelly.

Leslie lives in Denver with her husband Bruce--her real-life romance hero. Visit her online at lesliekelly.com (for her sexy romances) or at leslieAkelly.com (for her romantic suspense.)

Fun, sexy and quirky romance
5 stars

Being a huge fan of Leslie Kelly I was very much looking forward to her newest book and it really didn't disappoint.

Here Comes Trouble is the story of Max Taylor - a former playboy who goes to the town of Trouble to lay low from the media frenzy caused by a tell-all book in which a whole chapter is dedicated to his erotic exploits with a congressman's widow. He plans to stop the book before it ruins him.

Sabrina Cavanaugh is a junior editor for a publishing company who is in Trouble posing as a rich investor. Determined to make the book a success, she is in town to prove that Max really is the womaniser the book makes him out to be even if that means seducing him to do it.

But when the two meet - Max has a hard time remembering why he was supposed to be staying away from women and Sabrina has a hard time remembering that she was seducing Max for business, not pleasure and losing her heart was not part of the bargain. Throw in a 5 year unsolved murder, a pregnant sister, stalker ex-boyfriend, missing money and an array of crazed, eccentric townspeople and you have the beginnings of a fun and entertaining original story.

This book really is an excellent read. Max is a delicious reformed bad boy while Sabrina is a strong, sexy woman with a sweet vulnerable streak and together the pair have great chemistry and the sex scenes really sizzle. The secondary characters are also well developed and hopefully we will see more of them in future books set in Trouble. The writing is sharp and entertaining and as is usual with Leslie Kelly - full of wit and humour.

I would highly recommend this book. It was a fun, sexy and smart comedy romance which I'm sure you will enjoy even if you've not read Leslie Kelly before. Definitely five stars.

This was a fun book though at times it felt like there were too many stories going on. This is the first of a series that seems to lend itself to a lot more than the 3 sequels that exist thus far. Sabrina and Max are the main couple of the story who meet and court in Trouble, PA. They both arrive with their own baggage and challenges to overcome. In addition to (and related to) this story, is Max's grandfather, Mortimer, who has just bought the town of Trouble and is being fought over by two local sisters. And then there is Sabrina's sister Allie who shows up with her own storyline. Though both of these secondary characters are left with me expecting to see them again as a focus of a future Trouble story. And then there is the town itself, reeling from the treachery of the factory owner who stole money from the whole town and then was mysteriously murdered. But the killer was never caught and the money never found--though people are still looking which could put Max, Sabrina, Allie, and Mortimer in danger! I really enjoyed the story by the end and look forward to reading more about the town's quirky residents.

The town of Trouble has lots of troubles. The former mayor embezzled all the money, so the town put itself up for sale and luckily eccentric, Mortimer, decided to buy it. Now he is moved into the house of the murdered mayor and his grandson has come to lay low and help out.

Sabrina goes to Trouble to prove that Max is the womanizer he is described as in a book to be published, hoping to get a promotion. But she quickly falls for Max and then has issues of her own when her pregnant sister follows her.

The residents of Trouble are a bit beyond kooky, especially sisters Ivy and Ida Mae. There is always plenty going on, so it made for an interesting read.

This romance novel was simply laugh-out-loud fun to read. It has some of the best characters and funniest lines that I've ever read in this type of book.
