Day One is a short, stand alone by Lauren Runow. This is my very first book by Lauren and I am in love. This book gets ALL the stars. I didn’t want to stop reading. This is the story of a couple finding each other during the most inopportune of times, during the shelter in place order while the Corona Virus shuts down the world as we know it.
Sharee Witzel is a sixth grade school teacher in a small community near San Francisco. The school where she teaches is shut down and Sharee is learning day by day what her new world looks like, by herself. Out of boredom, she reactivates her Tinder app and surprisingly, there is a message from a very good looking man that instantly intrigues her.
Andrew (Drew) Miller can’t believe she answered his message. As the days pass and they get to know each other, the spark between them grows. They are forced to learn a new way to get acquainted. A way to date quarantine style. And let me tell you that Drew is very, very good at thinking up ways for them to date while keeping a safe distance.
“I think I like you, Drew Miller.” “Right back at you, kid.”
To say these two were adorable as they got to know each other is an understatement. I think I spent the entire time I read this book grinning from ear to ear. Their dates were perfect. I was falling in love with Drew right along with Sharee.
“The worst time of my life is turning into the best.”
I loved every single thing about this and it is the perfect way to put a happy spin on the trying times we are currently living in. I adored Drew and Sharee. I also loved the way Lauren writes. This book totally has me wanting to scour through all of her other books. If you want a short, sweet, sexy story that will brighten your day and make you look at social distancing in an entire new way, then grab this book. I repeat, GRAB THIS BOOK! In my opinion, for how happy it made me, five stars isn’t nearly enough.
“This is my home, where I belong and where I’ll forever be.”
I was surprised to come across a quarantine romance - a Covid-19 love story!
And I said, "why the hell not?" and decided to try it.
Unfortunately, it was not something I could enjoy...
First of all, I was very disappointed to see that it was 124 pages. I was sad because I knew it would lack depth. I hate novellas and short novels.
What is surprising is that it took me 3 days to finish a 124-page book! Yeah, it was that boring :(
First of all, I must say that it begins in a promising way but then it becomes unbearably repetitive.
Their relationship was very boring for me. I mean they are sweet characters and what they talk about and what they do is surely sweet but I just don’t enjoy that type of sweet. It was too cheesy and childish for me.
The thing is everyone is at home because of Covid-19 so on a day she is bored, she checks her Tinder account and there she meets this gorgeous guy. They immediately hit it off. They like each other very much. It’s too insta.
Then, they talk on the phone, do face time etc. His mother is old and her immune system is weak so he doesn’t want to meet the heroine and then carry the virus home to his mother. That’s why they do another version of the real thing all the time. For example, he brings her food, but he doesn’t stay close. He goes back home. Then they eat in their separate homes and chat. They watch films. A new version of Netflix and chill in different homes! It was too boring for me.
And one day, he takes his car, she also takes her car and they go for a picnic in different cars. They sit apart with a big distance in between. Then they start to talk about how much they want to touch each other, kiss or have sex but they cannot.
They do phone sex once but I hate phone sex so that scene was also stupid for me.
This kind of meetings in different locations made it impossible for me to enjoy their romance. And it goes on like this all along the book. She even meets the parents on face time.
Towards the very end of the book, his mother tells our hero that he can now start to live with her and now it is their turn to be the ones he will have to stay away. She says he can still do their shopping and bring it home but not enter the house. Kinda swapping the roles! He accepts it, then he goes to her house and says he is hers from then on. Whoops, the happy end.
But of course, like 95% of the writers, our writer also feels that she has to marry them and make her pregnant before ending her book like it is a written rule out there. So a few months time jump when they marry and a year time jump when she is pregnant and THE END!
I am sorry, but this book was a torture for me. I read it because the Corona Pandemic is something we all share and I thought I would feel more invested in their story but the way it was written (in unicorns and rainbows style) made it impossible for me to get connected to these people. We are at home, mostly bored, tired, scared and worried and their too cheerful mood didn’t resonate with me. Sorry.
I am sure there will be lots of people who will enjoy their story; so in this case, it could be me, not the book...
I followed the daily postings of Author Lauren Runow on her Facebook page, as a chapter a day was released, for what became this wonderful, heartwarming quarantine romance…Day One. So once it was released, I started back at the beginning and reread it before getting to the epilogue…because I wanted to feel it all over again.
What started out as a match and message on March 27, 2020 via Tinder, became an escape from reality and a budding relationship between baseball player Drew (Andrew Miller) and 6th grade teacher Sharee (Ms. Witzel)…all while following the social distancing guidelines.
This quick novella has a lot of LOL moments, several heartwarming passages, and just gives you such a wonderful and joyful feeling…honestly…it gave me so much hope and positivity while living in the midst of this pandemic. All of the characters mixed into this story are so perfectly blended in, Sharee’s students, their families, all of it…sigh. Just such an absolutely delightful, feel good read! I really, really looked forward to the daily chapters, I fell in love with the characters, and am so excited that it was released as a book…but at the same time…I never wanted it to end! 5 stars!!!
Oh my GOODNESS! How adorable and cute and sweet was this story?! I was smitten and smiling all the way through. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
Sharee & Drew were absolutely delightful and cute and perfect.
Their Tinder hook-up was fun and pretty much the only way they were going to meet during quarantine. Sparks flew between these two, even through texts and phone calls.
Their witty banter, their jokes, their sarcasm...it was exactly what was needed to make this story entertaining and enjoyable.
The dates they created made me swoon, made my heart happy...and also made me frustrated. Because I wanted them to touch. Badly.
But they wouldn’t. They couldn’t. They couldn’t hold hands. They couldn’t hug. They couldn’t KISS. But they made their little shelter-in-place love work.
This charming romance story was a little slap of today’s real-life situations mixed with a healthy dose of a romantic fairy tale escape that left me smiling from ear to ear.
I knew when all this craziness in the world happened that there would be some quarantine/covid-19/virus books coming out. And I told myself I wasn’t going to read them. Not sure why? Maybe I didn’t want to associate my HEAs and romantic fairy tales to this negative time in the world. But I’m so glad I read this!! Day One was adorably perfect! I highly recommend it!!
Sharee and Drew are in quarantine right along side us and I would of never thought a story like this could be be a laugh out loud romantic comedy but this author has knocked it out of the park. There are so many relatable moments that I personally have done and thought myself during this time at home. Seeing the steps Drew takes to spend time with Sharee and yet stay within a safe distance is swoon worthy. Their story is a non stop page turner and gives us hope that even though we’re living in a time where things are incredible difficult, there’s a light at the end.
We are living in a strange world right now, so much uncertainty hanging in the air. I stumbled upon this book randomly yesterday, and I'm so thankful I did. If you are feeling down, need a pick me up or are just looking for a heartwarming tale about finding love in these strange and uncertain times, then I highly recommend this book! While being isolated, stuck at home, due to the COVID Drew and Sharlee meet on Tinder. This is their story about dating each other during a pandemic. Drew has to figure out fun ways to get to know Sharlee and then date her without physically touching/holding her. I especially liked how Lauren, the author, incorporated trends that are going on in real life, for example, the Netflix show, Tiger King and how big of a deal it's become recently. I loved the banter the main characters were able to have because of that.
I was super confused; however, how far Sharlee & my man Drew lived from each other.?? 2 minutes? 5? 20?? Because by the way it sounds, what with Drew always driving between his parent's place and her house, that they live super close.
Lauren took a difficult situation and made it into a treasure for us to cherish. In this time of social distancing, how would a couple manage to meet and fall in love? Seems impossible, right? Nope, not if you find the right guy on line who knows how to romance his girl! Extra points that he's a famous Pro athlete who also helps take care of his mom. From skyping dinner dates to actual meets, runs, picnics, dinner, you name it, as long as the 6 feet distance was kept in place, these two fell in love in the most unlikely way! Perfect story in an imperfect world! Loved this!! You will too, so don't wait to grab your "Get out of Quarantine Doldrums" Read!!! FIVE UNMASKED STARS!
Thank you Lauren Runow for allowing me to see the quarantine in a new light. My face hurts from smiling so much. You took a challenging situation and made it beautiful.
Sharee sits at home alone when she should be teaching. Drew sits at his parent's home when he should be moving into a new apartment in San Francisco and starting a new job. Who knew that turning on the Tinder app could make a difficult time pass so much easier.
Dating within the social distancing guidelines would be challenging. A first date with social distancing would seem impossible. Making it even more difficult, Drew is taking the social distancing even more seriously with his mom in the high risk category.
I had no idea that social distancing could be so romantic. The things that the characters came up with were imaginative, thrilling, exciting. They left me swooning with each day that passed. I laughed at their antics. I gushed at the sweetness.
This is my first Lauren Runow ARC and read... and I definitely enjoyed every single page.
The San Francisco Giants is my favorite baseball and I do miss baseball because these times was supposed to be the start of the regular season.
I can relate to Sharee... her quirkiness, her candor and her overall disposition. Drew stole my heart, not only for obvious reasons but also by being such an overall family guy. He's not afraid to show his dorky side and he's humble.
Such a quick fun read during a time when there are so many challenging and depressing issues around each of us. It was great to read a story about Drew and Sharee and the challenges they faced each day with the Pandemic 2020 and trying to stay quarantined, safe and also getting to know each other and build their relationship while looking out for each other and their loved ones. I needed this light read with all the laugh out loud moments and of course Lauren Runow throws in several steamy scenes. I devoured this book in a few hours. I couldn’t put it down. 5+ Safe Distancing Stars 🙌😉
Beautiful, Romantic, and Funny When Lauren started sharing this story on her page, I thought it was a wonderful idea. Everyday she shared Sheree and Drew's daily struggle with being in quarantine during the Covid-19. You see the characters build a beautiful relationship and try to find ways to learn about each other. I love both of these characters so much. Lauren made Drew and Sharee so entertaining. Sometimes, I would go back and read chapters over and over until she released a new chapter the next day. This book is amazing, and I can't wait til it's released as a paperback. This book is beautiful, romantic, funny, outstanding, and had a wonderful HEA. I'm so happy Lauren Runow is sharing this story with everyone, this is now one of my favorites.
Day One by Lauren Runow Standalone Contemporary Quarantine Romance Novella
I was struggling to read. Nothing was distracting me from the news all day. I was actually wishing there was a quarantine romance out there, and asked on my Facebook Page if other people were interested as well. I was so surprised to see that so many said “no way”. But when I saw Day One by Lauren Runow, I grabbed it in the hopes that it will bring me out of the reading slump I’ve been in.
I’m very pleased to tell you that IT WORKED! I loved every second of this socially distant romance that takes place right NOW. It’s so current and they both shared the same fears and situations that we are all facing.
“You can’t spell virus without U and I.”
Sharee is a 6th grade teacher in a small town near San Francisco. School is out because of the pandemic, and Sharee lives alone and is bored, so she reactivates her Tinder account.
She meets Drew Miller, a swoony baseball player who just moved back to the area and is temporarily bunking with his parents. His mom is very high risk, so Andrew is taking no chances.
I love books where the couple connects via texts and emails, where they really get to know each other before sex. (Though phone sex wasn’t off the table for them 😜) Andrew was so creative for their dates, I loved how he found a way to spend time together while still remaining socially distant.
“The worst time of my life is turning into the best.”
Likes:
•It was so current! (Even Tiger King was in it!) •I read the whole thing with a smile on my face. •We are all in such a strange new world, it was cool to read about the same thing. •It was creative and cute. •It was hot without being over-the-top. •As much as I wanted more, it told a very full story in a novella length, something that's very rare to find.
Dislikes:
•The cover and title don’t match the book at all. •A few too many exclamation points made the writing seem a bit immature (but only at those times, and I’m one to talk).
The Down & Dirty: What I LOVED about Day One is that it is taking place RIGHT NOW. It was the first book I read that held my interest because it was so easy to relate to all they are going through trying to maintain social distancing. I read the entire story grinning ear to ear and even finished it with happy tears. In fact, I started trying to slow down at the end because I didn’t want it to be over. Day One by Lauren Runow totally broke my reading slump and I look forward to reading more of her books. Rating: 5 Novella Stars, 4.5 Heat Purchase Day One by Lauren Runow (affiliate)
Social distancing got you feeling down? Need a fun distraction to pass the time? Read Day One. A Tinder app connection for Drew and Sharee that starts as a way to battle boredom turns into a friendship and adventure in learning about each other while shelter in place keeps them physically separated. The story is written in daily installments as the epidemic continues and their relationship grows. It is a heartwarming story of turning lemons into lemonade with building a friendship and laughing together - all before getting to start a physical romance. The epilogue will leave the reader smiling and with a happy outlook during these scarey and uncertain times.
From Lauren Runow comes my third coronavirus romance this month. It's written during the current social-distancing we're all caught up in. And bonus points for the hero to be a professional baseball player. Sharee and Drew meet through their Tinder accounts and nothing is stopping this new pairing. They are really creative keeping the relationship building filling the pages with so many LOL moments, sweet and syrupy ones and some hot and steamy, too -- and yes, even a few bittersweets.
This is a short novella, a really quick and fun way to break the doldrums of the pandemic blues. The Epilogue really put a grin on my face -- Drew gets a homerun for his perfectly fitting proposal!
This was such a fun story to see take shape, especially at a time like this!
We join Sharee as she is following her local shelter-in-place order. Going slightly stir-crazy, she decides to check her Tinder app, if only for some mindless browsing. Imagine her surprise when she matches with someone and he messages her!
Drew has recently moved back to his hometown and was temporarily staying with his parents, when their county went on lockdown. With his immuno-compromised mother, he’s taking every precaution he can. Getting to know Sharee wasn’t part of the plan, and kind of throws a wrench into it.
Having to keep their distance, they rely on conversation and creativity to get to know each other. I thought it really cute how they find way to spend time together without touching. As they grow closer emotionally, they find it increasingly more difficult to stay apart, though, and their growing frustration is palpable. I do think that, because they have to delay the physical aspect of their relationship, they are able to build a really strong emotional and intellectual connection.
While I was sort of expecting the epilogue the way it was, it was still a joy to read, especially since we are all currently still in the middle of various lockdowns. Having something hopeful to look forward to is a nice way to escape everyday worries.
So I knew there would be books coming about the stay at home pandemic but had no clue it’d be so soon. I was thrilled to read Lauren Runow’s book and couldn’t help but think men needed to read it! It’s a love story but also a story about the great lengths a guy will go to when he truly knows who he wants! This book was amazing and needs to be read by everyone!! So grab it now and curl up to hear about a couple living through what we all are but how they made it better! Find those things that make you smile and stay safe and happy 😃!
I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. This book couldn't have come at better time. I mean we are all in the same boat here with quartine and lockdown and let's face it it sucks but we have to do it to beat covid19. So reading about this couple at met during this tough time is such welcome distraction. Thank you Lauren.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I loved this rom-com book! It is a fun, flirty, and sexy story about being quarantined during the Coronavirus pandemic—so real you can envision yourself in this situation!! This book had so many fantastic lines, witty banter, sarcasm, and inner dialogue—this was definitely a breath of fresh air. I laughed out loud more times than I could count, but also swooning over the handsome, tall, brooding, and sexy Andrew (Drew) Miller. This page-turning story completely encapsulates the madness of the first stirrings of love and lust when you can’t get enough of someone. I love the story of Drew Miller and Sharee Witzel—two people who met on Tinder because of the shelter-in-place order. I loved how Drew came up with creative ways for he and Sharee to be together and still continue social distancing. Their attraction and chemistry is so intense, alluring and mesmerizing, binding them to one another perfectly. Lauren Runow was able to show us how two singles are shifting their daily routines during the Coronavirus by dating from home while maintaining the six feet social distancing practice, how it can affect because people with chronic health conditions, and still results in less face-to-face social encounters. Lauren Runow manages to weave humorous plot lines centered on romantic ideas with artfully developed main characters. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
So we are all stuck in home missing sports and the lives we lived before Covid 19 what could be better then a hysterical rom com about a couple of people who meet during quarantine? So many funny moments, so many awe moments. This is exactly the book you need to brighten these somewhat dreary monotonous, sportless days. Drew and Sherrie are awesome and so is their meet cute. You don’t want to miss out on this quarantine romance!
*** I did receive a free advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review***
Day One is a sweet, fun romance set in this time of Covid 19 quarantine. THis romantic comedy was a heartwarming story that made me laugh and I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters. I loved the characters and enjoyed watching them get to now each other and fall in love while observing social distancing. With all that is happening in the world now, this was a clever story and the first of its kind that I've read. I loved it and would highly recommend it to all romance lovers.
This was such a cute read and really hit the spot. So much that was mentioned in this story made it so much better since we are all living through this history making event together.
Really needed this little bright spot of love during such devastating times.
Surprisingly cute story...wasn’t sure what to expect, and maybe it’s because I read it while still under quarantine, but the dates/events all lined up and made this feel real. Plus, both characters were great and I was rooting for them.
I loved this story as a daily serial on Facebook because it gave me something to look forward to each day. The addition of the epilogue in this book made a perfect ending for Sharee and Drew!
I absolutely loved this book. Romantic and charming with a big bunch of goodness all rolled up into this novella. Thank you Lauren for creating something so beautiful during a time that’s so ugly. Tinder huh? Who knew? This could have easily been a full length novel with some added drama but I’m glad you wrote & published it while we are still under quarantine. It gives people hope!! Thank you! I absolutely recommend this book!
Oh my I absolutely loved this book! I was fortunate to read it day by day, chapter by chapter and it was so welcome. The premise was so relatable! Drew and Sharee meet online through a dating app, but everyone is in lockdown to flatten the curve. This is their story of getting to know one another! @laurarunow
