Weddings in the City #1

Bridezillas And Billionaires

Rate this book
Have you ever had one of those really bad days at work?

You know one where the maid of honor accuses the bride of cheating on the groom with the best man AND the groom’s father?

No? Just me?

Welcome to life as a wedding planner for the rich and entitled of Manhattan. I've seen it all--from the nastiest bridezilla to the most overindulged billionaire.

And Evan is the worst.

Tall, dark, and handsome, he has a ridiculously ripped body under his formal suit and runs a massive hedgefund that’s actively making the world a worse place. I don’t even feel sorry for him when he walks away from the alter in a daze.

Well, maybe a little bit.

Enough that I now have a billionaire holed up in my teeny tiny apartment. I regret it immediately. My violently antisocial cat has welcomed him like a long lost brother, Evan’s half-naked six-foot-five frame is sprawled across my bed, and he’s eaten all of my lasagna. A day and an epic screaming match later, he’s out on the street, and I have my high-stress, lonely life back. But I can’t worry about a billionaire’s hurt feelings. After all I have a business to run and bridezillas to corral. But when I go to meet with my latest bride, guess-who is there smirking at me.

Evan’s decided he’s ready to move on from the cheating witch. Who does he want as he rebound?

Me.

But I am immune to Evan’s obnoxious displays of wealth and his piercing blue eyes. These panties are staying firmly on. Mostly. Except for that one time. But it’s not like anyone’s falling in love right?

Right?!

This standalone, full length romantic comedy has no cliffhangers but does have a swoon-worth HEA! This book is STEAMY! The highs are hilarious and the lows are as deep as the voice of the guy you fantasize about! Falling into bed with him was not the wedding plan!

I have been wanting to read Miss Jacobs book for a while now. From the reviews I read, her books are funny. Since I need a good laugh, I picked up Bridezillas and Billionaires.
I have to say it is below my expectation.

I was expecting way much more funnier and more character development. In Bridezillas and Billionaries, Miss Jacobs focusing more on the comedy that she forgot to make deeper and meaningful chemistry between Ivy and Evans. Hence the plot is fall flat. There is no intimate/ vulnerable moment between the characters. And the comedy is not that funny. I did not even cracked a smile, let alone laugh.

Overall I do not have it, nor do I love it.

A state of boredom had me thinking that this book might be a fun, light read, let me tell you I have never read a book with so many over pretentious, rude, self-serving individuals and one spaghetti spine, somewhat over whelmed female lead.

Evan the groom finds out at the altar that his new bride to be has been cheating on him, of course the wedding is off. I am still trying to figure out how Ivy, the wedding planner gets blamed for his fiancé wanting to test drive a few penile units before getting married. I mean it’s almost non-stop how everyone has laid the blame at her doorstep.

Ivy and Evan spend so much of the book yelling at each other, heck it seems most people in this story are shrieking, yelling, threatening or whining. I didn’t connect with any of the characters and I had to force myself to finish it. There are many things like her cat that was supposed to be cute but just came away most of the time as more of a plot device than anything that I found amusing.

Ivy was a patsy and allowed so many people to just run over her. She would on occasion stand up for herself but that bluff was called and she would fold again. It was a very long drawn out painful read for me.

Be warned that this book is so over-the-top that you’ll either adore it or wonder what everybody else read! Because humor, even outrageous and out of control humor, is my favorite approach, I enjoyed Evan and Ivy’s crazy story. There is so much that you just won’t believe, but I’m not telling so that you can experience it firsthand. (Maybe even skip the blurb for that same reason.)

Ivy is a wedding planner. She actually needs a bit more backbone to deal with the trolls she calls clients, but it’s her business to deal with difficult people and that’s how she does it – with kindness and understanding even when everyone else would probably strangle the aggressors. Evan Harrington is a billionaire who, through pictures provided to him to make it indisputable, finds out that his bride Camilla has been cheating on him with a number of different men, including Evan’s own father. The first one who has shown any good sense, even though it’s short-lived, Evan calls off the debacle and disappears. Chaos reigns supreme.

As Ivy drives home, she finds where the groom ended up – in her car! He comes home with her, engages in some wonderfully humorous banter with her, then leaves the next day, firmly convinced there is something worth checking out with Ivy. The two of them get lots more time together dealing with Evan’s bridezilla stepsister whom Ivy has the (non)pleasure of working with on her upcoming nuptials. All of this commingling gives them a chance to bicker and wonder as they try to ignore their chemistry. Will they finally realize that there is probably no way of avoiding their relationship? There’s a ton of interference, but Evan seems fairly set on his attraction and I don’t think Ivy has the backbone to actively fight it.

Anyway, this is a crazy story line that shows the wealthy in a very bad light, but is probably well-deserved. The question now is, do Evan and Ivy realize what they mean to each other? Or will they walk away from something actually worth fighting for?

My updates says it all.

70.0% "So far all that I’ve read in this book all rich people are brainless, self centered, entitled assholes especially bride to be. They are bitches of epic proportion and give zero fcuks about others feelings and all the hard working women pretend to be meek and act like slaves because they need their job. So far I hate this novel. 1 star. Let’s hope at least ending is good."

80.0% "The only person who has balls is the H and person who has brain is his best friend and good people are main characters or people close to them. Rest of the world is a self centered bitch."

85.0% "Still waiting for Ivy to grow a backbone.she is in one of the most pathetic and spineless h I’ve read. She lets everyone walk all over her and fights only with H who is good to her. Fed up with all the shrieking, whinnying, threatening, yelling already."

85.0% "In the beginning of this novel I was bored but now I am miserable. It’s 9 hrs and 40mins of pure torture. How did this lame excuse for a novel get so many nice reviews and high ratings. I just want it to be over because I am almost at the end of the novel😔"

At least the ending was ok. Not good but ok.

Will I recommend this over to others: Nope

I liked this book. Overall I found this story fun. I also felt that this book kind of had an over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek feel to it. I know that that this is not always something that appeals to all readers but for me it worked. A heavy thread of humor, emotion, drama, tension and steam weave across the well written pages and had me chuckling, in need of a cool drink or wishing I could provide some of the characters with the firm kick they so desperately deserved. Ivy and Evan were a volatile pair and that again is something that I think will either appeal to you or be a huge turn off. They spend a very large portion of their time together generating sparks by either fighting or......ahem, well you know. All in all I thought that this was a very enjoyable book. I am electing to post a candid review.

Cute book. Tons of faniky drama. Graphic sex scenes when they occurred. Not my typical read but I enjoyed it.

There were so many things that I loved about this story. Mrs. Russo and her friends cracked me up. All of Ivy's friends were awesome and I need to know women like them right now! Evan and Ivy were awesome together even when they were fighting. Evan's dad and Ivy's mom should totally hook up and then disappear in the Bermuda Triangle. Sebastian was a wonderful friend to Evan. Mika was a great sister. I loved Evan and Ivy's happy ever after although I do wish there was another epilogue further out. I recommend reading this book.

Absolute delight! I am a great fan of Alina's work and this latest book certainly did not disappoint. I like her covers, you don't need a half-naked inked hunk to know that the book is going to convey the atmosphere of the cover. It is a light-hearted, witty, well-written page-turner. The story is certainly about bridezillas as the title suggests but the backdrop of the storyline is about the developing attraction and affection between Ivy, the wedding planner, and Evan, everybody's dream, the tall, dark, very handsome and not to forget rich billionaire. Ivy and her team of friends and experts at all things "wedding", do their best to accommodate the most outrageous demands from their clients. Every character in the book, like in all Alina's stories are very well developed and described, the dialogue is often witty, scene-appropriate, at times, steamy hot and sexy, dotted with Evan's rather "colorful" language. Getting back to the characters, this is the book where the reader realises that to like a book, one doesn't have to like the characters in it. That was most certainly the case with bridezilla extraordinaire, Imogen. She is phony, pretentious, spoiled, entitled, rude, and demanding to the extreme. I was so frustrated at times, that even being a peace-loving person I wanted to "bitch-slap" her, along with Camilla, the other bridezilla in the story. Then we see the Svensson brothers with their rather unscrupulous way of handling their business and the reader can see that Ivy in many respects is heading for several all-time-low moments. But Ivy is resilient, and well-versed at being stress-trained from dealing with her selfish mother, guilt-tripping her for years. The story, in spite of everyone's insecurity-come-stupidity, turns around to a HEA. Along the way we have a feral/demon cat thrown in, not to mention seeing Imogen's wish, to having the kind of wedding, people will talk about for years, come true. Is the bridezilla’s wedding exaggerated and outlandish? Oh, yes, but this is a book, which is only limited by the imagination. Very good editing and writing style enhanced the experience. This is a complete hoot of a book that I can whole-heartedly recommend.

It helps if you’ve read others of this author’s work and are familiar with her style, because this book is beyond over the top. Plus, there are cameo appearances from the Svenssons and Holbooks, and at least one of the infamous citizens of Harrogate. Ivy drove me more than a little bit mental in this book. She could be the dictionary definition of a door mat. Even when she tries standing up for herself or her business, she usually ends up folding like a bad poker hand. Evan, his family, and most of their friends and associates live down to the very worst stereotypes of the spoiled rich. I enjoyed watching this pair trying to resist the chemistry between them. We all knew they were going to lose the fight, but it was fun while it lasted. In the end, I would have liked to see just a little bit more grovelling from Evan. He messed up really badly and while he shows remorse, it wasn’t quite enough for me. I love that Ivy finally manages to stand up for herself against her mother, however I thought that plotline was wrapped up too neatly; there’s more dirt there that I wanted us to dig into. Overall, I spent most of the book laughing and that was one of the most important reasons I wanted to read it.

Evan was at the altar set to marry Camilla when the maid of honor produced pictures of bridezilla Camilla having sex with several men, including Evan’s father. Ivy was the wedding planner left to deal with the mess after the non-event. Nobody can find the groom who fled the scene until Ivy finds him in her car on her way home. After an almost comedic scene at her condo Evan leaves the next day. Evan’s marriage was not a love match, rather a business arrangement so he wanted no part of Camilla but wondered about an attraction to Ivy. Evan’s stepsister was also a bridezilla and Ivy’s company was also involved with her wedding where she was being totally unreasonable. Evan and Ivy have a lot of contact preparing for the stepsister’s wedding and there is lots of bantering and chemistry between the two. Will Evan and Ivy be able to overcome all of the obstacles thrown at them and find a way to be together?

I loved this story with the interactions between Ivy and Evan from the beginning and I had several laugh out loud moments. The 2 bridezillas in the story were really over the top and made for fun reading too. I highly recommend this story and can’t wait to read more from Alina Jacobs.

Ivy is a wedding planner to the rich and entitled. She deals with bridezillas and entitled grooms on the regular.
Evan is a hedge fund manager who was supposed to be marrying the love of his life. Unfortunately, all of his future brides secrets are announced on his wedding day. Looking to escape the madness, he ducks into the wedding planner's car as a way to escape. Thus Evan and Ivy meet.
This read as an enemies to lovers tale. I wasn't really fond of Evan through half of the book. He just seemed kind of unsure of his direction. Not really worth the hassle of being bothered with. I liked Ivy's character, though I had trouble in the beginning seeing her with Evan. The chemistry between the characters took a bit to really burn for me. This book had some funny moments in it, between the entitled brides and the wedding disasters that were 'not their fault.'
The pace of the book was pretty steady.

I love this book, there’s all different parts to it, you have to follow along with all different characters you got to meet, yeah sometimes it was a little bit too many people but it kept my interest the whole way through. I love Ivy but man she can really be a pushover, she definitely lets people guilt her and walk all over her but I know most of the time it’s because she’s just trying to make a go of her business and survive. Evan is a sexy, cocky, funny, and then loving guy. He really gets treated terribly and then of course he acts all cocky trying to bounce back and act like it’s no big deal but there’s parts in this book I feel bad for him because he’s trying to expand his business too but he doesn’t want to sell his soul to make it happen. There’s some pretty rotten characters in this book and there’s some characters that I would just strangle. Ivy has the patience of a saint. I love all of her friends and I hope there’s going to be a book for each one of them. There’s a few misunderstandings here and there but it doesn’t last too long and the ending is beautiful.

Billionaire, runaway groom/wedding planner, close proximity, laugh out loud, spicy rom-com.

Evan finally gets a HEA!!!!

I love this type of book. No angst, comedy, hot billionaires with hot spice thrown in. Nice and light. Is it for everyone? No. But it is my cup of hot chocolate. I don't want to be sad or anxious with the books I read.

I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch.

This book is the first in the series and can be read as a complete stand alone.

You will get some fun little Easter eggs though if you have read some of the other series. But they are just minor, so if you haven't read the books you won't miss anything. But if you have the Easter eggs will give you quite a giggle.

Bridezillas and Billionaires by Alina Jacobs was a wonderful story about Evan and Ivy. She’s a wedding planner. He’s a billionaire who discovers….at the altar….that his fiancé has cheated on him. So, he calls it off….and winds up at the wedding planner’s car…to escape. What follows is a wild ride!!! His fiancé wants him back. He wants Ivy. There’s a real estate situation involved as well.

This is the first story I’ve read from this author and it won’t be the last!!! The only thing that was bothersome was that this story seemed incredibly long! But, it was very good!!! The writing was solid! The characters were fleshed out….and relatable. Great story!!!!

I like a rom com which actually is one.
Ivy is a wedding planner & has gone into the business with her friends, who do cakes, flowers etc. They are doing it tough & need their weddings to succeed. This is how she meets Evan, whose wedding is stopped at the altar. They need the money & he is also paying for another wedding they are doing.
It's a real comedy of errors with Ivy & Evan turning from enemies to more. There's a great buildup & chemistry with this couple. Add in the snarky entitled family & a good collection of secondary characters. I liked the flow & the writing kept me wanting to read more.
It's nice to read something like this when you need an escape.

A study in the psyche of bridezillas and wedding planners!

Wedding preparations bring out the worst in the brides-to-be. And if these ladies are already spoiled, egocentric and mean... it's the wedding planner that gets all the blame when something goes wrong, even if it's not their fault. Join Ivy, our wedding planner, while she tries to navigate the trials forced on her of not one, but two bridezillas who are hell-bent on making her life miserable.

True to her writing style, Alina Jacobs delivers another hillarious story, full of sassy banter, steamy moments, emotional turmoil, intricate plot twists and an ending where everyone gets what they deserve :)

As the first in a new series, I can't wait to get my hands on the next installment!!!

Spoiled and bratty Bridezillas - was not for me

Bridezillas And Billionaires by Alina Jacobs is a hot and steamy story but also a bit "too much" in some ways. I have always really liked/loved the book I have read by this author. I like her witty, light, romantic, fluffy storytelling and writing style. But this one was not my favorite as I found it to be long winded and just too much with the characters.
I still love the author so will continue to read her books but I just did not connect with this one. It happens as not all books by an author you love will work for a reader. But this is only my opinion and I know other readers will love this book.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Ivy is a wedding planner, she has amazing patience and forgiveness in her because that job, in her world, is something else entirely. Add into the mix planning a wedding for the rich and spoiled, everything becomes amped up even more. Evan is supposed to get married but it all gets blown apart. Ivy, gives him a place to escape but her super tiny apartment is not big enough for Evan and his six five body and her. Evan moves on and gets back to his life but he is not willing to let Ivy go just yet. This book contains a great story, interesting and quirky characters, humour in abundance and steamy chemistry. Enjoy!

The latest from Alina Jacobs, Bridezillas and Billionaires is a rom-com which brings Evan and Ivy together in the craziest way.

She is a wedding planner who Evan blames when he finds out his fiance has been cheating on him. He goes from hiding out at Ivy's apartment to leaving to deciding he's going to pursue her.

Ivy is not my favorite of Alina's heroines, but I still found the story entertaining and fun to read. It was a different take than I have seen in other romances with wedding planners, which I liked. There are appearances by some familiar faces, too!

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

I object to not having more from Jacob's to read! A new favorite author in my ranks. I always get excited when I get an opportunity to read her books and this story of Evan and Ivy is just as fun and well written as I have come to expect. Great characters, chemistry and banter throughout the read had me laughing out loud. Ivy loves all things wedding, but Evan has had more than enough of weddings after his failed attempt. Can ivy help Evan see weddings as more than the disasters he's been involved in? Read to find out how this most unlikely of couples came to be.

What a great couple together but such pushovers for the other people in their lives. After the psycho brides and families (except Evan's sister) I constantly was looking forward to their alone time. Luckily when it was just the two of them, the sex and sarcasm definitely helped trying to get over every other problem they faced.
At the end I came to realize two things about myself. One - that I could never have that job and deal with those people without losing my mind or getting arrested, and Two - elope and go on an awesome honeymoon is still the best way to do it!!!

4.5 stars ***** Laugh out loud! Ivy is a high end wedding planner. Someone actually objected accusing the bridezilla of cheating with two men. Bullet dodged by poor Evan. Failure for her. He ends up hiding out at Ivy’s driving her crazy. Her next client is Evan’s bridezilla sister! Although they are attracted to each other, she can’t sleep with a client. Evan is really trying..... Bless her heart, I would have walked after the insane demands by the bride. And, a little bit of the Svensen brothers. I am never disappointed by an Alina book. They are always fun and entertaining!!

1.5- the added half is because it's over

Reading that was like taking a walking tour through sewers with everyone screaming

The characters were embodiments of reality tv personalities, nonstopping screeching and forced drama. Every. Single. One. Terrible.

In between the banshee shrieks, there was some unrealistic absolute garbage real estate nonsense. Just. Set the whole thing on fire and doodle in the ashes. Nonsense.

You get a break once they start having sex. The only time the screaming stopped. They felt like commercial breaks from the insufferable characters, coming every few scenes and only lasting a few minutes.

Reading it, I wanted to cover my ears from all the noise.

It was my first book from this author. To be honest Wasn’t going to read it because I am really tired of the wedding planners (and assistants....all the books are the same). However I liked very much Evan, he is not the typical male character, has a lot of personality and he is really funny. I give it four stars and not five because the problems of the book were too much for me and the same applies to some of the characters. I would really like to read Mika story, i wish she had more personality and I hope she develops it for her book. The same for Sebastian. I do not know if they are available, but they would be nice.

Bridezillas and Billionaires is a great romantic comedy that will have you laughing so hard through the book.

Ivy is a wedding planner who is about to have a bad day, when the Groom finds out his bride has been cheating on at the alter and takes off. Ivy is left to clean up the mess and it's not till later she finds Evan hiding in her car. This story takes you on a over the top ride as Evan realizes what he want, and Ivy continues to deal with her Bridezillas.

This was just a great book for when you just want to take time to escape.

Ivy is a wedding planner and has a business with her girlfriends. Evan is a billionaire and about to be married. Well, that wedding sure is a hoot. Did it happen? Nope. A philandering father and a friend of the bride happened. With the bride. OMG. This book is hysterical, but all this author's books usually are. A gorgeous billionaire. A beautiful wedding planner. A fat cat, literally. Corgis. Lots of food. Lots of hotness. And so many laughts. This book is a masterpiece and I absolutely, totally loved it!!

This was an okay read

I thought this would be a fake relationship kind of story, but I'm not upset that it wasn't. I wish that there was more about Ivy and Evan as a couple in this story. It felt like Imogen's tantrum's were stealing the spotlight and I felt like even those were redundant. Imogen is in the top ten for most annoying characters. Ivy and Evan however, were amazing. I loved these two together and I love how Evan kept inserting himself into Ivy's life. His bond with her cat was so adorable.
