It’s never too late to dream a new dream.

Lessons from a one-night stand turned out to be a lot more than the rom-com I’d expected. Simple plot, sassy characters and a big family in a little town are the main ingredients of the first book in The Baileys series.

Nine years ago, Austin Bailey had to say goodbye to his dream of being a professional basketball player when his parents died in a tragic accident. Without hesitation, he came back to his hometown to take responsibility for the kids while his sister Savannah took over the family lumber business.

Although he is happy working at the local high school as a teacher and coaching the basketball team, he hasn’t forgotten his dream. The youngest Baileys, Phoenix and Sedona, are graduating this year and he can finally leave the town to coach a college team.

You’ll find out one day that life has a way of changing what’s most important to you.

Holly, the new Principal, can’t believe her luck when she discovers that the guy she made out with in a Jeep a couple of days ago is a teacher in the high school she's going to work.
She wants to keep distance, but neither of them can’t resist the Chemistry they have.
However, time is not on their side: they are leaving within three months. So they make a deal: just sex, no feelings attached. Easy, right?

And if you believe that, you’re as stupid as Austin and I are in this moment.

The book is written in dual POV, and you can see Holly (h) and Austin (H) are made for each other only by reading their thoughts. They are sassy, easy-going, and share the same humour, so the connection between them can’t be more real.

Although the romance started really strong, it gets a bit repetitive and loses importance in the middle of the story over family drama. Also, the characters felt a bit plain so, even though they are likeable, I find it difficult to truly connect with them.
However, big families are my weakness, so I still enjoyed the story. They are nine siblings plus an hilarious grandmother, so the fun is guaranteed.

“Come to the high school and pick up Phoenix. She’s been suspended.”

He laughs. “Classic. Why?” (..)

“She put the high school for sale on Craigslist,” I say into the phone.

Besides, I really enjoyed the relationship between Austin and the teenagers he coaches. High school and family dramas are a great addition to the otherwise simple plot of this book.

“Coach!” (...) “JP asked Becca out!”

“So beat the shit out of him.” It’s out of my mouth before I can stop myself.

Elijah stops for a second but quickly catches up to me. “Seriously?”

“No. Don’t do that.”

Although I would’ve.

Another tiny detail I loved it’s that Savannah (Austin’s sister) took over the family business, while Austin (H) took responsibility for the kids. I know it is a small little thing and I only hope there is a future where this kind of thing doesn't stand up.

“I don’t need some man to come in and save me. I’ll do it myself.”

Overall, I enjoy the book. It was a bit simple, but the family dynamics made up for that. If you enjoy series like The Bridgerton, you are going to love this one.
Lessons from a One-night Stand has all the features: the team of siblings (plus one), an iconic old lady (Austin’s grandmother) and even a source that publishes all the juice gossip (The Buzz Wheel blog)!!

“What happened?”

“If I’m right, then my sister threw a coffee mug at your dad’s face, and now she’s in jail and he’s pressing charges.”

Austin (30) & Holly (30)
Austin's twin sisters are set to graduate high school, so it's time for him to move on from Lake Starlight. He, along with sister, Savannah, have been raising their 7 siblings for 9 years since the untimely passing of their parents. He's ready to make his own dreams comes true, but when his one night stand turns out to be his new boss that might just put a damper on his long awaited plans.

Holly has taken the short term position as the principal while she searches for the father that abandoned her when she was a baby. Will it be the reunion she is hoping for, or will that one night stand have her staying in town longer than she anticipated?

Their attempts to sneak around didn't go so well because Lake Starlight is a small town like no other. It has it's own blog called Buzz Wheel where you can bet all your gossip will be posted. My nosy ass would like to read it, but I would hate it if I lived there and it was about me. However, I'm super boring, so I'm sure I wouldn't make it in it anyway 😂

Overall, their chemistry was on point, along with their banter. On to the next in the series Advice from a Jilted Bride, which will follow the next sibling, Brooklyn.

Narration notes:
Both did a fab job.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been excited about a new to me author, but Piper Rayne has drawn me in and I want to should her name from the rooftops. Lessons from a One-Night Stand is the first book in her new series The Bailey’s and if it is indicative of what’s to come sign me up and take my money. The book has everything I love about contemporary romance; intriguing characters from the two primary to the supporting cast, an intriguing storyline, enough conflict to keep it interesting but not so much I want to stab someone, steamy sex scenes, and a whole lot of heart.

Good guy heroes are my crack and Austin Bailey defines good guy; leaving his life in California to come home and raise his 7 younger siblings along with his next oldest sister at age 21 has put him on a pedestal in the small town of Lake Starlight, Alaska. Given that his family is the town’s largest employer and because he came home and his sister took over running the company their family is revered. But Austin is counting down the days until his youngest siblings graduate from high school and he’s put out feelers to find a job coaching at a college in California so he can have a life of his own. First however, he has to deal with the new principal at the high school where he works who also happens to be his one night stand from the weekend before.

Dr. Holly Radcliffe moved to Alaska for one reason and one reason only, to confront her father that left her behind as an infant. Normally very controlled and level headed, Holly accepted a short term assignment with the intention of meeting her father, what she didn’t expect is her one night stand to be a teacher at her school or the fact that she is so drawn to him.

Yowzers, the heat rolling off these two was enough to melt all the snow in Alaska and then some. I loved the intensity of their attraction and the situation with the town’s gossip blog reporting on their every move, the family issues they were both dealing with, and the big decisions they both had to make. Most of all I appreciated the respect they had for one another, how easily they meshed, and how important they became to one another in a short amount of time.

I don’t want to spoil this book for anyone, but I do want to say that it is expertly written with lots of layers. The characters jump into your heart and days later I am still thinking about them. Most of all this is a feel good story packed with a lot of emotion. Do yourself a favor, if you’ve never read author Piper Rayne, take a chance on this book, I think you’ll find the family dynamics intriguing and this romance will leave you satisfied, but anticipating the next book in the series.

This book was everything I love about Piper Rayne books. If you're not already on the bandwagon this is a good place to start. When I first read the blurb for this story I didn't realise it was the kick off for a longer family series. But I am so glad it is.

This book not only was a super sweet romance it also was a great introduction to the family and town and has me so excited and invested in everyone else's story.

Austin was the perfect boyfriend in so many ways that I really loved him but damn did it take him long enough to see what was right in front of his face. And I am really really looking forward to seeing how he deals with all of his siblings falling in love.

Holly was the ideal match for Austin and I enjoyed getting to know her and seeing her realise who was important in her life. I am hoping we are going to see more of her mum and friend going forward.

Buzz wheel was an awesome addition to the story I am looking forward to catching up on future gossip through it. It really makes me wish I lived in a small town with a gossip blog of it's own.

“𝙸 𝚌𝚊𝚗’𝚝 𝚠𝚊𝚒𝚝 𝚝𝚘 𝚎𝚡𝚙𝚕𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚝𝚘𝚗𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝.”

If you’re keeping up with my reviews then you’ll know that I’ve just recently become obsessed with all things Piper Rayne! After devouring this author duo’s Blue Collar Brothers series, I got my hands on an early copy of 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱, the first book in a brand new series by the incredibly talented duo. The second I started Austin and Holly’s romance, I. WAS. IN. HEAVEN. Pure bliss and satisfaction flowed through my veins with every turn of the page, leaving nothing but a huge smile on my face at the very end. The Bailey clan is something else. I fell in love with this family straight away and I’m incredibly intrigued by the mystery surrounding this Buzz Wheel blog! Grandma Dori charmed me. She was a scene stealer for sure, but it didn’t take away from the epic romance that builds between our wonderful main characters. Comedic and witty banter, scorching hot chemistry, and a family dynamic that will leave you wanting more…I can tell you right now, this series is going to be a fan favorite for sure!

Lessons from a One-Night Stand bored and annoyed me at the same time. Although there were some great moments in the book, it wasn't enough to hold my attention. Instead of making me enjoy my reading time, it was slowly sucking the will to live out of me.
The family (no matter how diverse—in chosen careers—it was) felt unimaginative to me. To the point where I had to ask myself, "Really, do they need to be that obvious?" Not even one of them spoke to me in a way that would make my heart racing, knowing I would get to read their own book as well soon.
There were also a lot of inconsistencies and/or just pure ridiculous stuff.
On top of this list, there was the infamous Buzz Wheel. I am just hoping, the revelation of who is behind it won't be a big part of plot twist in one of the following books. It was getting on my nerves right from the beginning.
Right behind it, there would be that incredible one-night stand.
As I said, there was a lot of things that bugged me, but how the town was worshipping this family was beyond laughable.

i didn't love it and i didnt hate it.. some moments i hated and skimmed alot.. for starters i hated HATED these snotty bratty asshole teenagers who talked to these adults like this and the teachers?!?! Like i swear I would have laid out that kid if he talked to me like that.. boy lucky he isnt 18 i would have paid Holly to smack him.. Austins sisters.. well Savannah, and Phoenix were the ones who annoyed me the most.. these secondary charas really ruined many things for me idk if i wanna read all 9 books in the series (i think its 9).. i felt so bad for Austin.. since everyone and their mother was guilting him about leaving only person who didnt was Holly she wanted him to follow his dreams.. i wish holly and him would have taken off and let Austin get his dream and come back a year later.. but I'm glad he fought and went after Holly.. still wish they took off.. its a nice town but Austin and Holly needed to leave..

What did i love about this book i did enjoy Holly and Austin relationship the ons to friends to friends with benefits then together together.. hopefully we get more of their relationship in the other Bailey books.. i might read Brooklyn book next!! She didn't annoy me so yeah!!

Lessons from a One-Night Stand was the first book in the Baileys series by Piper Rayne. It was my first book by the authors.

The Baileys were the heart and soul of Lake Starlight, Alaska. There were nine siblings: Austin, Savannah, Brooklyn, Rome (twin), Denver (twin), Juno, Kingston, Phoenix (twin) and Sedona (twin). Austin was the oldest at thirty. Their parents died when he was twenty one and he became the guardian to the seven youngest. He returned to Lake Starlight, accepted a position at the High School as a coach and teacher and raised his siblings until the youngest were now seniors in high school about to graduate.

The authors set the stage well for the series. I loved the family dynamics and there was promise for a great series. I can’t wait to read all of their stories. Lessons From A One Night Stand was Austin’s story and how can you not love Austin. He was sexy, smart, funny, loyal and gorgeous.

Holly Radcliffe was the temporary High School Principal, covering a maternity leave until the end of the year. She was pretty straight laced, but likable as well. And I loved her best friend Dana, she needed a Bailey brother as well, but I digress.

The storyline was light hearted and fun and I was engaged from the beginning to the end. It also had some life lessons packed into it, providing additional substance and depth. Although the main storyline was fairly predictable, I enjoyed the journey and the stage was set for a successful and entertaining series. Next up is Brooklyn in Advice From a Jilted Bride.

Dieses Buch! Es war so schön! 5/5 Sterne!

Was soll ich sagen?

4.5 stars: A steamy one-night stand in a jeep makes the headlines in this gossipy town

What a delightful read! This is my first book by Piper Rayne and I am hooked!

(This is my 2021 review)
Austin is the oldest Bailey child, in his 30s, who had to take on the responsibility of taking care of his seven siblings along with his sister, Savannah. Their parents passed away in an unfortunate car accident when he was in his early 20s and his sister was 19. Because of that, Savannah ends up taking over their lumber business and Austin takes on the role of the parental figure in the house. He didn’t pursue his college dream of becoming pro in the major leagues because taking care of his family was more important.

Holly came to this Alaskan town to replace a principal at the high school that Austin works at. She’s only going to be there temporarily, which is fine with her. She came looking for her estranged father who basically didn’t care about getting to know his daughter. She wants answers and wants to know who the man that created her is. Little did she know that the man she had a one-night stand with is the golden boy of the town.

Holly is Austin‘s principal. However, everyone seems to know what happened between them because of evidence in the form of pictures and the gossip blog that detailed their romp in his Jeep. Although they try to fight their attraction, they can’t help themselves. They both know that this will be temporary because her principalship will be ending when the school year is over and Austin is planning to coach at the college level in California (he currently coaches the baseball team at the high school that they work at).

Their attraction is sizzling! They can’t help but gravitate towards each other and everyone notices. Even when they try to keep it professional, it just isn’t possible. Their intimate scenes were delicious. ****spoiler**** why wasn’t their jeep escapade ever shown 😩😩I needed a reenactment or at least a flashback****end spoiler***.

I recommend this book! I can’t wait to dive into more of the Bailey clan’s books.

I don't know what happened, but I feel like this isn't the type of characters or writing that I've come to expect from Piper Rayne. I loved her Modern Love and Single-Dads series, but this one just didn't capture my attention.

The conflict was just so-so and the characters themselves annoyed me a little bit (especially Austin's siblings *looking at you Phoenix*).

It really says a lot when the side-characters ruin your reading experience and enjoyment of the main couple. The high school kids were so disrespectful and crossed the line of appropriateness so many times that I had to suspend my disbelief that this was a real high school. No teacher or principal that I've ever known would allow multiple students to talk that way to them *literally to their face* about their personal lives and sexual relationships.

The status that the Bailey family holds in this small town was just too much. I mean, an entire parade that happens every year that celebrates the family? A bit overboard if you ask me. The people living in this town are so overbearingly opinionated about what Austin does with his life and I felt so sorry for him.

❗Unpopular Opinion❗

As I said before I absolutely hate giving books less than three stars because I respect the authors’ work but believe me when I say I couldn’t possibly give this book more, it would be unfair for all the other books I gave three stars.

Why I give this book two stars:

➼ Too long for my liking. I was kinda bored while reading it and in my opinion the story could have been developed in much less pages.

➼ Too many characters. Hero (Austin) has EIGHT siblings. Even now that I finished the book, I’m not sure I remember all their names and who did what. And of course, there are more side characters that are not Austin’s siblings. So, we’re talking about more than fifteen characters in total.

➼ Not so interesting plot. So, Austin and Holly have a one-night stand and they meet some days later at a school they both will be working. After that, they try to avoid each other even though they don't really want to. They decide to be friends with benefits as long they work together, and they develop feelings for each other. As I said, not so interesting…

➼ I couldn’t connect with the characters. Holly felt a bit immature. She doesn’t want to admit that she has feelings for Austin, she doesn’t voice her thoughts and only talks to her best friend and she lies to her mother about where’s she’s moving for work. Really? As for Austin, he has to be the grown up so that he can raise his younger siblings but other than that he’s a bit selfish and all he thinks about is his career which is ok of course but I couldn’t connect with them, and I didn’t feel their chemistry that much.

I actually considered to DNF this book @56% but then I thought that I should give it another chance. To be fair, there were some things that I liked but those that I didn't like were more. I’m sorry but I didn’t like it as much as I’d like to and I don’t think I will continue the series, at least not now.

So much love for Lesson from a One-Night Stand by Piper Rayne!

I loved the storyline, it's well written, highly entertaining and I seriously couldn't put it down.

I enjoyed getting to meet and know the Baileys, they are a fun and a little crazy family that have had to overcome losing their parents at a young age, deal with their pain but also be their for one another.

I loved Austin and Holly, they have amazing chemistry and I loved watching their relationship develop. I found them both likable and very relatable, they have big hearts and truly are each other's soul mate.

description

I'm in love with Piper Rayne's story telling and they've once again delivered a beautiful and heartwarming read.

Lessons from a One-Night stand is a wonderful start to The Baileys series and I highly recommend it.

I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to try this new series by Piper Rayne. I didn't love the Blue Collar Brothers Series but when Dani from InkSlinger told me that this one was so much fun yet packed with emotion, I couldn't say no... and did you see that blurb? How could I resist?!
I pretty much fell in love with Austin as soon as he opened his mouth on stage introducing the new interim principal lol He doesn't realize that his hot one-night stand in his Jeep is with none other than his new boss Holly.
There is no denying the chemistry and heat between these characters but when you throw in the one of a kind Bailey family (NINE siblings!), this small town full of quirky characters and teenager antics in school, you will get comedy and drama and romance that will make you smile and make it so hard to put this book down. I LOVED Austin's care of his family given the circumstances, I loved that he always puts them first despite his dreams and goals. But more than that, I loved his care for Holly, how he wants to protect and care for her and their heat... just WOW!
Just this one little taste of this family dynamic makes me wants more and I can't wait to dive into the next book. The Buzz Wheel was freakin hysterical and I can't wait to come back to Lake Starlight, Alaska!

Oh my goodness!!! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I fell in love with this book and I now want to devour every single story about those Bailey siblings.

Piper Rayne are an incredible writing duo and I’m ashamed to admit that this was the first time reading one of their books. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this story and am pretty sure I sat with a big goofy smile on my face nearly the whole way through. These characters of Lake Starlight are so addictive and I truly adored every single one of them. Austin and Holly’s story is sweet and steamy and I didn’t want it to ever end. Unfortunately it had to, but I’m sure I’ll be seeing more of them as I continue on with the series.

First book in series and I loved it a lot! Will look for next books as well.
Totally safe read for safe readers.
Hero was sweet but a bit silly on last pages. Heroine was awesome. Great main and second characters.
Small town settings, Alaska, if you like it - go for it.

Really cute. I liked the small town romance between Austin and Holly. The gossip rag narrating their tryst was fun and quite funny. Austin was really great and I felt for the dilemma he was in. He changed his whole life plan to go back home to take care of his siblings after his parents die in an accident. Now its finally time for him to leave a pursue his dreams. It wouldn't have been so hard if he wasn't so drawn to Holly and the guilt trip his family laid on him.

I also really adored Holly. She was super sweet and put Austin's dreams above the fact that she was really falling for him. Despite that her time in town was supposed to be temporary it didn't stop her from falling head over heels for everything and everyone in the little town.

Lessons from a One-Night Stand was super sweet and absolutely adorable to read.
