My Fake Fiance #1

Do What It Takes

Rate this book
If there’s one thing I hate about being a business owner in a male-dominated profession, it’s having to constantly prove yourself.
I’ve worked my butt off my whole career, and now there’s only one person who can help me get the renovation project of my dreams that will save my company.

Yup, that’s right.
It’s that jerk who treated me like the ‘poor girl’ in high school.
And as it turns out, he has to look like he is cleaning up his reputation to impress his clients...
So maybe we can actually help each other.

We can be professional.
We can put aside our differences for long enough to get what we both need.
No one will ever know better….at least that’s what I thought.

My career is the most important thing to me, and I don’t need feelings getting involved.
But how am I supposed to keep my distance when we have to move in together?
Sleeping with him once was a mistake, and now we’re so close I can’t seem to keep my hands off him.

It was supposed to be fake.
We were supposed to keep it professional and end it as soon as the project was completed.
Business only. No strings, no feelings.
And definitely no baby.

This standalone, fake fiance romance offers one hell of a happily ever after and a surprise ending guaranteed to leave you breathless.

James and Meredith are sweet couple with a sweet romance. Old high school classmates meet again at a charity event with different agendas. After a few dances they go for a drink. For Meredith he was the unattainable, rich boy who hurt her feelings but this was a chance to fulfill a dream. He saw a swan where an ugly duckling used to be. They could have one night right?. They go there separate ways only to find out they want to be apart of the same project. They decide to work together to revamp the McAllister image in order for their bid to be reconsidered by faking an engagement. Of course a lie is never the way to go. One way or another everything comes undone and they have to decide if the fake relationship is worth overlooking bad feelings and had advice.

Breathtaking and seductive!

**Presented with an ARC by the author via BookSprout in exchange for an honest review.** (Two book bundle that includes both Do What it Takes and Change of Heart.)

Audrey Knight has crafted a duet of unexpected, unplanned romance with rich and vibrant characters. Her writing flows eloquently and erotically, making you feel as though you are the characters in the story. Each book stands alone, with its own couple and story, but can be read together as well.

Do What It Takes

The way the history between James and Meredith plays into the surprise when they see each other again, the bantering, the perfection of a fencing duel but with words and body language instead of rapiers and swords, primes them both—and the reader—for the encounter to come.

With open door love scenes, tempered by the gravity of shared history, and the depth of emotional and true-to-life concerns, this literary duet has it all. A game of push and pull, challenge and withdraw, follows them from the bedroom to the boardroom, and in both, they are perfectly, evenly matched. She is his equal in every way, and will call him to the carpet where other might swoon and fawn. And that’s just in Do What It Takes!

The only reason it’s 4 stars here is because it needs a heavy hand with editing. Especially with scene separation and grammatical corrections.

Great read. James and Meredith are great characters. Strong and determined. As are Edward and Allison.
James and Meredith went to HS together and reconnect years later, will the past keep them from what's meant to be?
James and Meredith want the same thing but are they willing to go the distance to get it? Will it change in the process? James asks Meredith to be his fake finacé in order to land a deal they both need, will the chemistry between them keep them on a professional level or will they give in?

Faking a relationship with the enemy what could go wrong? Edward and Allison have met before and it was a nightmare, at least for Allison. They meet again two years later and can they pretend to get along to get what they each want in the end?
Audrey had me hooked from chapter 1. Written from both main characters point of view which is my favorite style when reading a story. A must read, you'll fall in love with the characters and their personalities.

Audrey did a great job bringing the characters to life in these two fake finacé stories. Do What It Takes is more fast paced than Change of Heart but both are great.

I loved this story. It was filled with drama and off the chart chemistry that pulled me in from the beginning to the end. James and Meredith were great together. I would definitely recommend this second chance romance.

A Façade of Love

Reasons to marry: 1) Second chance at fulfilling a high school crush, 2) Scintillating sexual compatibility, 3) Arrangement needed to secure a business deal

Meredith Ames can put a check by all three reasons, but love is certainly not on the list—not now, not ever, not with James. But when the adult James McAllister—the handsome, charming, wealthy, teenage nemesis who grew up to become the creative man who, if she marries him, will become her boss—proposes a marriage of convenience, well, the answer has to be “I’m in”. Not “yes” to him so much as “yes” to her dreams and the future of her newly acquired firm, Mackenzie and Associates. Her firm specializes in restoration, design and adaptive re-use of older buildings and has agreed to partner with James’ Elm Street Architectural Services to bid for the contract to renovate, restore, rejuvenate and modernize one of Boston’s most historic cathedrals, the almost two-hundred-year-old Our Lady of the New Advent.

All construction projects have complications, and complications arise—family values. While the Elm Street/Mackenzie bid is competitive and is among the top tier of groups being considered, one attribute that church’s reviewing committee has added is “family values”. Despite a strong architectural reputation, and a fairly priced bid, the one “check” missing in the review, and one that will knock their offer off the table, is the reputation of the McAllisters. Not James per se, but his father and his father’s successful financial firm’s vulture-like practices, even though neither the senior McAllister nor his financial firm are a part of the offer. The father and his firm have distasteful reputations, and the church is concerned that James’ moral character and that of his company, may follow the path of the father. James and Meredith need to prove that the reviewing committee is throwing their approval to a moral and upright business. And so, the business deal needs to be sealed with a sacrament—the sacrament of marriage.

James and Meredith’s commitment to each other needs a ring on it—or at least to act as if they intend to do so until the winning bid has been named and the contracts signed. Until then, James and Meredith must present the façade of love and happiness and family values to the community. And they succeed with the façade of the happily engaged couple until a baby creates a new complication in the plan!

Meredith and James have a history from back when they were in high school. He bullied her with a bunch of his friends. Now years later they run into each other at an event and catch up on their current lives as well as business. They end up sharing a heated night together and then go back to their normal lives. However James's father calls him for a meeting about his company and it changes things for him. Now in order to keep his company he needs to get some big accounts to show he can do it on his own. He calls Meredith about joining together for a bid and is surprised when she accepts. There's a hiccup because the people they want to get the job from want someone family oriented. This has James approaching Meredith with another kind of deal. Will she pretend to be his fiancé while they do the job she agrees because she needs the business as much as James does. What will they do when very real feeling become involve in their agreement? Can they have a future together with how they started?

This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

The author has given us characters that we can connect with. James and Meredith were classmates in high school and now, years later, find that they are both interested in restoring old buildings. Although they each work at different aspects of the buildings, they combine forces so that each can increase the value of their respective companies.

Meredith and James are from two worlds, They went to high school together but hung out in different social circles. When life throws them back together he is the head of an architectural firm and she focus on historical preservation. When the two come together again at a charity event and then later as business associates feelings come into play. Each needs the other to benefit and solidify their company. When they become entangled in a fake relationship, feelings become real. Meredith doesn't want to be hurt again by James but that doesn't stop either of them from getting hot and heavy. This book was intriguing from beginning to the end.

Excellent romance that had to overcome many issues. Meredith came from a middle class family and got a scholarship to an upscale school. Whereas James is a billionaire and has everything even as a teen. Unfortunately, most of the students there were wealthy and insulted her to daily, including James. Even so Meredith had a crush on him. Years later, they meet she gives him the cold shoulder and he doesn't get why. So much has changed over the years and from this point the story is steamy, has lots of angst, uncertainty and surprises. I received a complementary copy of this book via Booksprout and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms.Knight.

A great story. James and Meredith have know each in high school. A chance meeting at a banquet has them reacquainted. James doesn't recognize Meredith at first because she is now a stunning beautiful woman and not the string bean nerd from high school. They share one passionate night and James wakes up alone and wanting Meredith. A big renovation project has them working together but in order to seal the deal James comes up with a plan for them to pretend to be engaged. But what happens ethereal feelings start to develop. Love the story and characters.

James had made some mistakes in the past and clearly making Meredith hurt was the hardest of them. She always had some warm feelings about him, but their different worlds made her take harsh decisions. Now, they are facing each other in a bid, and they must team if they want their companies to grow.

What happens when you mix business with Pleasure. Sounds like a win-win when it looks like the players get everything they want...until things get complicated... and impossible to distangle.
