Never get in the way of a family feud—
When Millionaire Carl Whitfield sold his Silicon Valley start-up and moved to Montana to pursue a ranching life, the Coopers took him in and taught him everything he needed to know. Now he’s ready to buy a spread of his own, settle down and start a family, and the Coopers are the key to getting the property of his dreams. Too bad the woman he craves is on the wrong side of the bitter, hundred-year-old Cooper-Turner feud. If he pursued Camila Torres, he might lose everything he came here to gain.
Banished from her family’s business for refusing to work under her less-talented brother, Camila came to Chance Creek to open a restaurant of her own. Taken in by the Turners, she’s done just that—and found a community that’s far more supportive than her family ever was. She won’t risk losing the Turners’ friendship by dating a man beholden to their mortal enemies—at least, not until Carl proves he’s here in Chance Creek to stay. He’s had plenty of time to find a ranch. What’s taking so long, anyway?
Will Carl and Camila’s desire for each other spark the Cooper-Turner feud into an all-out war?

I found myself once again visiting Chance Creek Montana and another Cora Seton series. This is book one in the Turner/Cooper series and I must say with all these different series, the population of Chance Creek has no doubt quadrupled in size.
Carl Whitfield is looking to settle down in Chance Creek and he's hoping his longtime love Camilia will finally say yes to his proposal. But between their work lives, family lives, and not fueling the Cooper/Turner feud, Camilla and Carl are going to face many obstacles.
I love the fast paced storyline that Cora Seton seems to deliver and I enjoyed Camilla's Mexican-American background and her desire to get her aunt and father talking again after so many years of estrangement. On the other hand, I found the romance a bit so-so.
Blurb: Never step into the middle of a family feud—
Millionaire Carl Whitfield has set his sights on small-town chef Camila Torres, but she won’t have him until he can prove he means to settle in Chance Creek for good. He’s spent the last three years searching for the perfect ranch. She’s spent the last three years keeping him at arms’ length. Now Carl will do anything to secure a spread—including siding with the Coopers in their ages-old feud with the Turners, a move that could make his dreams come true—or destroy them for good.
Carl Whitfield and Camila Torres. This is the first book in the series but it does refer to the previous Chance Creek series and some characters from that series appear in this story. Neither Carl or Camilla are local to the area so they should be neutral to the feud that is going on between the Turners and the Coopers but they are adopted into the 2 families through business and general life. They both like each other but lots of things keep them apart, the main issue being Karl has yet to actually 'settle' in Chance Creek and Camila is reluctant to get involved with him as she wants to stay. Despite the main issue there are lots of other things keeping them apart and the unraveling of these is part of their fight to be together. Carl proves dependable and he tries so hard and Camila learns a lot about herself too. The story is sweet, no cheating, no o/w or o/m drama and a HEA. There is plenty of material there for other characters for the rest of the series and the groundwork is laid for a few couples already. Looking forward to seeing how the series progresses. ARC.
Finally, Carl gets his story! Having read all of Cora Seton books centered around Chance Creek, I have eagerly been awaiting Carl and Camila's story. This had the added bonus of introducing us to a lot of new characters that hopefully will feature in future books. Plus even though this is the first in a new spin-off series, readers can expect to see lots of familiar faces intermingled in this story. Just as much as I have been waiting for Carl's story, so has Carl. Carl has been waiting for three years to find a ranch in Chance Creek. Not only does he want to settle on his own ranch, but Camila has also told him she won't date him until he has a home of his own. So doubly motivated, Carl sets out to buy a ranch but is thwarted at every turn. This was a great addition to the world of Chance Creek and I certainly look forward to more in the series. Especially since I have a feeling this feud between the Turners and the Coopers is going to get really crazy with Noah and Olivia!
Millionaire Carl Whitfield has been head over heels in love with chef Camila Torres for three years. He took her out on a date but when Camila expressed that she planned to remain in Chance Creek to live her life he knew it was a game changer. He was determined to find a place and now three years later he has a lead on a ranch to buy and is ready to make his feelings clear with Camila. The only problem is the Turner vs Cooper feud that has them sneaking around trying to finagle their relationship as well as keep the long heated feud as far away from the two of them as possible but it is impossible. Can the couple who are meant to be together stay together?
This was charming, there is a lot going on and Camila has some family issues that creep up in the story. The Turners and Coopers are nuts, hilarious but nuts. I can't wait to see where this story goes.
Romance genre: second chance romance Series: Turners vs Coopers of Chance Creek Length: 312 pages
Plot: Carl thought he had found the one in Camila, but when he proposed to her, she turned him down. She loved him, but he always put his business first and had no intention of settling down in Chance Creek, where Camila lived. Three years later, he thinks he's figured it out and is ready to buy a ranch and settle down, hopefully with Camila. But there's the problem of finding a ranch. Lucky for him, his current landlady, a Cooper, has a line on a ranch - if he will help her in the feud against the Turners. Unfortunately, Camila's current landlord is a Turner, and so the lovebirds have to sneak around if they want to spend any time together. Then there is the case of the missing mask...
Commentary: I did not enjoy the framework of the feud. It seemed exaggerated and overpowered many of the scenes. There was so much going on in this story - the second chance romance, Carl's business concerns, Camila trying to gain her family's approval, her mother sending her to Mexico, her cousin's nonsense, the reappearance of Camila's lies, the development of the robotics program - too much! I think that might be in part because it's the start of a new series, but it seems like this is an off-shoot series and the town has already been introduced before, so I'm not sure why so much was packed into one book. I felt like the romance was a secondary concern. And to be honest, I'm not sure Carl really got why she turned him down in the beginning (and she certainly didn't get, until the very end when he pointed it out, that she was asking him to do something she wasn't willing to do herself). I did not really like either character. They were both a little selfish, workaholics, and somewhat bland. Unfortunately, this was a miss for me.
Carl Whitfield has been in Chance Creek for years now. He came in as a rich outsider. He's worked his way into the community, but it's been an uphill battle. He's worked as a ranch hand for the Cooper family for three years to try and fit in. Since he's actually a millionaire he wants his own spread, but circumstances, and perhaps the town, have conspired against him. But what drives him most is his desire to date, and hopefully marry, Camila Barrera. She s co-owner of Chance Creeks 's Afghan- Mexican restaurant. But she's cut off Carl's advances for three years now. And now, finally, "when it rains, it pours," Carl finds a ranch to buy, Camila agrees to date him, the Coopers hit him up for a big favor, his buddy Sven needs help selling his company and Camila has to travel to Mexico, on behalf of her family. Whew. Carl's response to all these actions and the responsibility he accepts, clearly shows that he is hardworking, loyal and thoughtful. Despite having way too many expectations thrown at him, he fights to accomplish what he must, including accompanying Camila to Mexico. Throw in the tension caused by the infamous Cooper/ Turner feud you can proudly watch Carl rise to the occasion. It's great reading about Carl's tenacity and his true values in this book. He has learned a lot in his time at Chance Creek, it was time Chance Creek learned about him. Lovely love, and learning, story for both Carl and Camila. Looks like a great new saga for Chance Creek, Montana.
I was a bit unsure what to expect when I started the book. Though this is the first in this series, there are other books set in Chance Creek which I have not read. This book read well as a stand-alone, though. While it required a suspense of belief (the hero and heroine went on one date 3 years earlier, but are drawn to each other - though Camilla put a heavy stipulation out there before she'd date Carl), the story was very sweet. The idea that a man would be willing to do whatever it takes to win the heart and hand of the woman he loves is appealing, particularly after reading so many steamy romances that seemed to have little relationship other than physical. I loved the characters and the inclusion of the Mexican culture in this story. Though the physical aspect of the relationship was slow, the romance was not. I enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading more in the series.
Carl is looking for a ranch to put down roots so he can finally marry Camila. Carl has been looking for sometime for the right one but for Camila to take him seriously he has to actually purchase one and just when he's about to do it the place is sold from underneath him. Camila is happily running her co-owned restaurant but she is looking for more. When her mom wants her home for her father's birthday things get........
A trip to Mexico, a family heirloom mask and family squabbles are in stock for Carl and Camila!!
WOW! I have been waiting for Carl's story and it didn't disappoint. Carl has been in love with Camilla for three long years because of her ultimatum. I give Carl 5 stars for having the patience to wait for Camilla to come around. Once she finally did, it was frustrating for both to get a moment alone. Once they were alone - whooboy, they were passionate. I am so happy that Carl finally got his ranch and the woman of his dreams. I am happy these two finally found their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Cora! I would highly recommend this book.
Camila and Carl's story was sweet. A romance 3 years in the making apparently. The story started slow, but picked up once they headed to Mexico. I loved Camila's family. They were very entertaining.
I don't like that there's this big Turner vs Cooper family feud, but it's never explained WHY they hate each other so much. I read the entire Cowboys of Chance Creek series, but I don't remember any of the Turners or Coopers.
I'm interested in Olivia and Noah 's story (book 2). That should be good.
Thoughts: Obviously I've missed out on a whole series before this story, but it wasn't difficult to catch up on what the status was around these two people. Carl and Camila were both out-of-towners who had been taken in, one on each side of the feud because of where they rented a place to live and worked. But their romance crosses the line. And they each have a lot going on that has to be settled before they can have their HEA, his work commitments, her family commitments, the community project. Recommended
Really enjoyed book one of the Turners vs Coopers of Chance Creek series. Carl has always loved Camila and wanted to marry her. She was a Montana girl with a restaurant and did not want to move. Camila spent three years pining for a guy she always wanted but could not have until he was ready to stay in Chance Creek. Nice story of how true love never dies and how to get what you truly want and deserve out of life. Cannot wait to read Olivia and Noah's story.
At first I wasn't sure about the story, but soon I couldn't put it down. Camilla and Carl had a lot of interfering from both the Turners and the Coolers, but nothing like the injection of Camilla's family was great. This was a great story and I can't wait to read the next book.
Carl Whitfield, millionaire wants to become a rancher in Chance Creek but he has one problem; he has been looking for a suitable ranch property for three years and they are hard to find in close to town. He has set his sights on small-town chef Camila Torres is the reason to want to be close to town so she can reach the restaurant that she owns with Fila. He faces other problems than winning Camila's hand when the ongoing dispute between the Turners and the Coopers heats up in a competition for another ranch and he finds he is right in the middle of the feud. Add a friend in California that needs his guidance with his business, a trip to Texas to meet Camila's parents and then a trip to Mexico about a mask and a family problem for Carl to solve and Carl is being pulled in all directions at once.
Camila is The Cowboy's Secret Bride so after three years it is time to go public and face the Turners and Coopers with Carl and Camila being a couple. The story is full of lots of conflict, problems to be solved and others asking for help that keeps them apart, plus family pressure too. I love the story and the couple and how they matured into their romance.
I like this author but after a long hiatus from this series, this was a disappointment. In the beginning, it's been three years since they met and became interested in one another, but they've never even been on a date, much less kissed. He's been looking for a ranch to buy to prove to her that he wants to settle down, but neither of them are ranchers. He's a bushiness man, she runs a restaurant, who dies she expect to run the ranch? Why not a house? Why not a local business? And they still don't date, for three long years. Till suddenly he's going to win a contest to p!ease a cranky old lady to get a ranch--it's starting to sound like Chance Creek is full of nothing but manipulative people who try to run other people's lives. I'm just getting tired of that theme, over and over again. At any rate, he tells her he's getting a ranch, more manipulation, by her family this time, but suddenly they're in love and getting married. The whole story just felt "off".
I didn't like the premise of the book. Camilla and Carl had a first date. Carl decided she was the girl he wanted to marry and told her so. Camilla, having had issues with her family that caused her to move and open her own restaurant in another state, tells him she wants insurance she will never have to move, so he has to buy a ranch in Chance Creek or she won't commit to being with him. She won't even date him! Carl did want to buy a ranch, but he also had other business commitments he had to settle. For three years, he has been searching for a suitable ranch but ranches don't easily come available for sale in Chance Creek. At wits end, as he can't even date Camilla without having bought a ranch, he decides to buy a run down ranch he doesn't even want just so he can date Camilla. In this town there is a rivalry between two families: the Turners and Coopers. Carl works for the Coopers so everyone considers him a Cooper. A matriarch of the family convinces Carl to help her in a contest to win land against the Turners. If he does, she'll give him access to a ranch owner she knows has better a much property coming up for sale before anyone else will know about it. Problem is that Camilla is seen as a Turner as she rents a cabin from them so Carl doesn't tell her about him helping the Cooper's. In the meantime, Camilla's mom demands she go to Mexico to STEAL a mask she believes rightfully belongs to Camilla's father for his birthday. If Camilla won't agree then her mom won't give her blessing for Camilla to marry Carl. All of that is just ridiculous. Seriously? Carl decides on the 1st date he wants to marry Camilla? And Camilla refuses to even date him of he doesn't buy a ranch first? And Carl agrees and searches for 3 years. He barely even knows Camilla! They only went on 1 date!!! Then the whole thing of her mom demanding she steal from her family? I just don't like either of those plots. Very childlike, selfish, petty. Though all of that is just ridiculous it is well written and I did enjoy the story despite all the ridiculousness of the plot and subplot.
Carl Whitfield, a millionaire who had his sight set on the chef of Fila's Familia restaurant, Camila Torres for the past three years. She wouldn't give him a chance until he could prove to her that he would stay in Chance Creek, Montana for good.
He spent that same amount of time searching for a ranch. He found the perfect one, there was only one problem. He found himself in the middle of an old family feud between two of Chance Creek's prominent families....the Coopers and the Turners.
The matriarch of the Cooper clan, Virginia Cooper made him a proposition. One he didn't want to take it but when she stood in his way of getting his ranch, he had no choice but to reluctantly accept it.
Camila and Carl finally decided to give what they felt for each other a chance. She wanted to make amends with her estranged family cause she wanted her parents blessings to marry Carl if/when he proposed.
The two lovebirds found themselves being pulled in different directions by their loved ones...It was as if they wanted to keep Carl and Camila apart. Well they wasn't having any of it and took things into their own hands.
Carl was helping the Coopers who were looking to win the competition they took part in. Together he and Camila went to Mexico get her father the best birthday present ever.
While there they grew closer and her family fell in love with Carl and vice versa. He helped her family out, they all gave the loverbirds their blessings to marry. Things were changing and they couldn't be happier.
It was great to see Base Camp mentioned. Love when the other Chance Creek series make a cameo. In this case COWBOYS OF CHANCE CREEK and SEALS OF CHANCE CREEK ;).
THE COWBOY'S SECRET BRIDE is the first book in Cora Seton's newest series, TURNERS VS COOPERS. It was enthralling, fast-paced and irresistible. Cora Seton did a magnificent job. 5++++
****ARC given in exchange for an honest review.****
Camila Torres has been putting Carl Whitfield off for 3 years now, determined not to agree to marriage until he has purchased a ranch in Chance Creek because she doesn't ever want to leave. Having a ranch will prove Carl is established and planning to stay. When family issues arise Camila is forced to leave her business partner to run their restaurant while she heads to Texas. She isn't expecting Carl to agree to go with her.
Carl has been doing everything in his power to purchase a ranch in or near Chance Creek but it seems that they are all handed down generation to generation. He is beginning to think he'll never be able to win Camile's hand if something doesn't come up soon. When a sudden town contest has the Turner's and Cooper's once again battling it out matriarch Virginia Cooper makes Carl a promise he can't turn down.
Camile is in for a big surprise when she returns home for the first time in years, and Carl suddenly finds himself with so many balls in the air and too many promises made that it looks like he is about to lose everything. Will these two love birds ever find a private moment for their first kiss much less a way to be forever happy together?
Although this book seemed to get off to a slow start it definitely picked up. In addition, I found it frustrating that a millionaire like Carl can't see so many obvious things when they are right in front of him (I don't want to give away spoilers in the details).
I had a few issues with this book. It's the first book in the series but I feel like I missed something important. From other reviews it seems maybe this is a spin-off from another series which would explain a lot of the missing background information.
This story jumps in three years after the hero and heroine, Carl and Camila, have gone on a first date. A first date in which he tells her he wants marriage and a family and all sorts of non first date material. She tells him she won't continue seeing him unless he's serious about settling down, so he spends the next three years making plans to do so in order to win her love.
First problem I have with this - from what I can tell they have little contact in these three years, certainly no dates. Next, they keep this non-existence relationship hidden because they are both affiliated, but not actually related to, feuding families in this town. Feuding families that are batshit. And speaking of batshit, Camila's family are misogynist and cruel, and I hate that the author tried to make them sympathetic characters in the end. It just felt all over the place and the drama was way too silly and too much. I didn't get a sense of chemistry between the two characters (because they literally did not know each other!) and even if the author had spent a little more time on their relationship, it still would have been overshadowed by the awful background characters.
I am in awe by the level of talent Ms. Seton shows with her continuing saga of Chance Creek. The attention given to the building up of the town, as well as the characters that call it home. It was wonderful to finally be able to read Carl's story, especially after his appearances in the earlier series. Ms. Seton has given such a high level of "life" to the town of Chance Creek, that you can feel yourself swept away, a part of the community, and friends with her characters. The fact that Carl has been given a chance at "redemption", and that both him and Camila are so intertwined with the feuding families of the Coopers and the Turners, is awesome, but also leaves you wondering just what will come in the future. With Noah and Olivia, the feeling of a budding romance is strong, but will the feud keep them apart? And what part will Camila and Carl play in their romance? So many questions left unanswered. I can also imagine a spin-off of sorts with Sven and Juana....or is it wishful thinking on my part, being that I absolutely love Cora's style and stories. Once again, another awesome episode in the ongoing saga from Chance Creek. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.
