Adam's dead... but his new life is just beginning.

Adam Wright is a Nightwalker. A turned human who is the worst kind of paranormal.

And he hates it.

He didn’t want to be a Para. He was proud to be a human, serving his community as a Grayson police officer. Sure, he lost the love of his life to a shifter, but he wasn’t a fan of Paras even before that.

And now he is one.

Only one problem. As a former Ant, and with a seething hatred for the type of vamp that did this to him, Adam doesn’t have any clue how to be a Nightwalker. Between the unbearable thirst, the newfound strength, and a rage that has him seeing red, he’s teetering on the edge of staying grounded and going rogue.

Until he discovers that there’s a way for him to do both.

Slayers are the bogeyman of the Para world. With some grit, determination, and an enchanted dagger, Adam dedicates his new life to hunting down killers… even if it means he becomes one.

Rogue is a novella (~20k words) that is set a month after the second Claws Clause book, Season of the Witch, and is considered a prequel to the third title, Sunglasses at Night. It features the first meeting between Adam and Tabby, as well as his initial reaction to being turned into a vampire.

„Rogue“ by Jessica Lynch is a short novella in the “Claws Clause Series” follows Adam Wright while he is coping with the trauma of having turned into a Nightwalker against his will, after a particularly cruel and vicious encounter with a vampire. And the coping starts right after he wakes up in the hospital with a crash course on “being a Nightwalker”… first lesson…. sleeping coffins are mandatory… lesson two avoiding sunbathing is a priority… well let us say that it takes everything in Adam’s character not to fully give in into hatred, self-loathing and desperation.

Nevertheless Adam Wright is first and foremost a law enforcer, who takes pride into a life of police service, only with the loss of his humanity this career path is closed forever, thus – and much to his distaste – and after being unable get any leads on this attacker, whether from the human police nor from the Department of Paranormal Regulation, he decides to join the Paranormal police. Being part of the D.P.R. isn’t exactly the career move he would ever expect to make, but a necessity if he wants to bring his attacker to justice one and for all. And thus, he becomes a member of the D.P.R. and along the way he meets Tabitha Winslow (Tabby) is a seasoned hunter, with a pedigree going back to the Van Helsing clan (yes “those” Van Helsing), but that is a story for another time…. or to be more precise for “Sunglasses at Night” the upcoming third book in the Claws Clause Series.

True to her very personal style Jessica Lynch mixes action, description and character centered scenes with a generous dosage of twisted humor, some adult romance and enjoyable cynical remarks (Adam’s reflections on himself walk the very fine line between cynical and hilarious to perfection). A fully satisfying quick read and a wonderful introduction to Adam Wright, the Nightwalker 😉

Fine storytelling!

This is such a complete world the author author has created! The Claws Clause is a blindly prejudiced set of laws for paranormals that is the basis for this series. Adam has had an amazing story arc; he's evolved from arrogant, bigoted, deceitful jackhole to a partner a shifter can truly count on, so NOW being bitten by these laws (pardon the pun) is an especially hard pill to swallow for this former human turned vampire. And to pile on the irony? Now that he's turned his bitterness, cop's instinct, and newly acquired abilities toward saving innocent humans by killing murderous vamps he discovers slayers exist, and his efforts to help may put a target on his own back. So, naturally, this is when he encounters the first available woman to arouse his interest in four years! All of this well composed action and intrigue is contained within a short read that is a perfect setup for Adam's and Tabby's romance!

Fan-freakin-tastic!

In the past books of the series, you grow to hate Adam. He may be a good cop and a dare i say, pig, but he doesn't deserve a HEA. That is until, he redeemed himself and understood Eva wasn't an option anymore. He died in the last book and because what he hates, a Para.

He is out to kill his own kind, protect humanity from the other side. I hope he ends up becoming a cop again. Start an all para team or something! That would be awesome!

Nice Introduction!
“Rogue” is a short intense tale of nightwalkers and slayers. This is the story of how Adam, a human turned nightwalker, becomes a vigilante against rogue nightwalkers and Tabby, a slayer met for the first time. Rogue is an exciting tale that plays well in the “Claws Clause” series.

Adam & Tabby.

A short covering Adam’s adjustment to becoming a Nightwalker. The former cop in him strong, he is sticking with blood bags and has turned vigilante — executing fellow Nightwalkers who kill their victims.

Diaz (the witchy cop) warns Adam about Slayers — yes, like Buffy — and he unwittingly saves one. His immediate reaction, instant boner.

I know it's a "hole-filler" novella but it was still a little on the short side. I'd prefer it if these "extra" books were incorporated into the main books thus making them a bit longer & a better read.

Good Read

This novella is the perfect set up to Sunglasses at Night. It was a great peak into Adam's feelings and beliefs after his change.
