Jesus? Sure. Lots of people know about Him. But do you really know HIM ... personally, intimately, fully? Dr. David Jeremiah takes you on an amazing journey into the very heart of Christ — not through a storybook of His life, but through an astonishing exploration of His character, His attributes, His spirit.
Did you know... Jesus can be found in the Old Testament! Jesus actively seeks us! Jesus is praying for you! Jesus said we will do greater works than He did! Jesus desires to work through you today! Jesus is preparing for a Second Resurrection! Jesus is living in the past, present, and future!
This study is not a recounting of Jesus’ earthly life and ministry. It is not about what Jesus did. This book is about who Jesus is... His character, His attributes, His spirit.
Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.
In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.
Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.
As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.
Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.
Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.
Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.
Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God
I have been a Christian for many years, so much of the content I was already aware of, but reading _The Jesus You May Not Know_ was a much needed refreshing in the very essence of who Jesus is. Many times I stopped and re-read referenced chapters in the Bible. I did this to thoroughly get the context, sometimes compare related passages, and soak it in. Unlike some Christian works, however, it is not really necessary to do that because David Jeremiah goes to the trouble of putting the scripture quote in the book word for word and not forcing the reader to flip back and forth looking up passages that are just referenced by book, chapter and verse. That, along with interesting examples and stories told well, makes the book reader-friendly and an easy and quick read. My relationship with Christ and my day to day actions were enhanced by this book. I highly recommend it.
This book was given to me as a gift by my mom after she read it on her trip outside the country. My mom has always been a strong woman of faith and has wanted to share her relationship with Jesus with my siblings and me. I appreciated the gift because I spent most of my time in the Bible and devotionals after giving my life to Jesus two years ago.
I loved the book because it was easy to read and made excellent points about how we know (or if we want to know Jesus). I felt like it fit right into where I am at with my spiritual walk. My mom recommended it to me because she said despite how far along we are in our journey, it is always good to go back a little to see how much we have grown.
I recommend the book to anyone curious about learning about Jesus or on a journey with Him.
sad it doesn't have a picture for the book cover. my parents have this book, it was leant to me by them. will return it to them. they love his writing ... i am new to him ... reading his books that is. i guess it is all in what you are looking for in a book, a great resource. love learning. love growing in my life with Christ ... so cool. they don't offer this on Amazon? weird. many of David's other books are there. i am curious ... why sometimes he is called a Doctor ...but this book he is not? curious.
David Jeremiah is very knowledgeable about the Bible and the story of Jesus. In this book, he takes the reader through Jesus miracles, his raising for Lazarus, and death on the cross for my sin. The book is well written. I highly recommend the book for anyone who does not know Jesus Christ as Savior. One point from the book that has stuck with me is "When Jesus called Lazarus from the grave he had to say his name, otherwise all the dead would have risen". An amazing thought.
I used this as a devotional for 10 days and man what an impact!!
It was a deepening of my faith and my relationship with Jesus Christ! I would so want every believer to read this as well as the Bible to really show them, in word, who Jesus is!
SUCH GOOD STUFF. And if you are debating whether to get /read it— you should!!!
This review is for my second time reading this book. Like all books by Dr. Jeremiah, you can see the heart of a pastor and theologian as he explains who Jesus is and what is He like. He uses a pairing like "Are we praying to Him and is He praying for us?"
The answer is always: "Yes." In that example, I have driven by or wander by Hindu and Buddhist temples. The deities shown there are fixed and cold. Millions pray to them, but when was the last time you read they are praying for you? Jesus's prayer in John 17 is a clear example of a God who prays for his followers.
I like all the clever inversions and pairings to show a God who defies our limited understandings and expectations.
This book has a very easy-to-understand structure, as it contains a question regarding Jesus, which is then answered along with supporting evidence directly from the Bible. This isn't just for Christ followers, but for every single person. The questions discussed are made to better your understanding and love for Jesus.
