The Final thrilling installment in the intoxicating Captive of Shadows Series by author Bailey Dark!
Briar The silence of evil penetrates even the thickest of castle walls.
The war is brewing as I watch Kane undergo tortures the human mind barely grasps. He clings to the last bit of strength he has. Drogaem taunts me, controls me, and the only thing that is mine... is my mind. Within me, my soul intertwines with a Goddess whose depths have spanned a thousand years and more. She pushes me. She shows me, and my powers begin to grow stronger. The little human that once graced the steps of the Underworld, fearful and hell-bent on vengeance, is no more. I am a woman, a warrior, and though revenge is still my priority, my eyes are no longer set on Death himself.
Instead, I have a new foe, a dead king risen again.
But he grows weary of waiting, and his nefarious plans build closer to home.
Kane The screams echo through my soul, awakening the beast within me.
I watch her, touch her, protect her, but Briar is no longer what we thought. She radiates with power and beauty, and her vengeance rivals even my own. Drogaem is easily tricked, but his thirst for control drives him beyond my games. His desire for revenge on his long lost love drives him closer to my Briar.
We stand alone in the ghostly halls, facing an army wrapped in dark magic.
If I don't protect her, Briar will die, and with her, my soul will wither.
I have the power to fight, but Briar holds the key to save all realms and all beings from annihilation. The troops are gathering in the fields, and my Kingdom crumbling.
Bailey Dark is obsessed with all things dark, hot, and supernatural.
From Fae to Aliens, her heroes are thoroughly alpha and pure raw masculinity. When she's not writing (which is hardly ever) she's busy watching every movie in the marvel universe, or binging supernatural on her couch.
I was sceptical with the initial books but I do like how this one wrapped up. It was intense when it needed to be and tracked her progress nicely and gave Kane new depth. Although I different to see the beast come out in Kane during the last battle but it wasn't a deal breaker. Liked the ending.
Watching Brair from book one has been a a journey from a scared but determined little human to a warrior queen hell bent on saving everyone. This book is full of action, emotional whiplash and so much courage! I loved seeing these characters develop and find their way and I think the ending was perfect. Isabella Tubman knocked the voices out of the park and truly transported me to the world beyond the veil!
Going through a tough time in my life and books are my escape. Really loved this series. Well written and great storyline. Would be a cool movie or mini series. Thanks for the escape with great characters to travel with!
They got away from the rating little bit around boot 3 and 4 but 5 was amazing any part where briar and Kane were together was epic there chemistry and love flew off the page and the conclusion was everything I ever asked for so am very happy on the out come I am so glad everyone got what they deserve and the power briar possesed is mind blowing and kept me on my seat like the first and second book of the set did I think may spell this wrong but I believe dremeon was better rotten in this book then the other 2 he was character wise I just didn't feel it but in this one his character finally grew into his character and he lept off the pages so I can't wait to read your next set I make reviews really not telling what book is about because I get so excited and don't wanna give nothing away but this series is worth it some romance but mostly action and fantasy a great great read
It was nice to watch character growth as well as author growth. The writing improved throughout the series! Everyone loves a happily ever after. Spice level 2🌶/5.....and it is all tacked on at the end. It felt like the author forgot to add it and threw the love climax (pun intended) in a lil blurb on at the end. I,personally, would have rather had their relationship grow during their captivity rather than denying and ignoring their feelings. I felt the maturing of their relationship was too rushed at the end. There needs to be a nice balance in a plot between conflict and relationship development.
It's been a while since I binged books 1-3 and I remember being so impatient in the begining that book 4 wasn't ready (I know, my fault for not checking if the series was finished). At the begining of this book I struggled, thinking this can't be what I was so excited about. But either it got better or I just got used to it and as I read along, I couldn't wait to see how Briar and Kanes story ends. Still, I don't have the chills I had while reading the first 3 books.
I really loved this series even though each book is short and sweet ...but enjoyable. In this instalment the battle begins for the Underworld. It's time for Kane and Briar to take on the resurrected old king of the Underworld.
I liked this story but felt the climax was rushed. Then the author didn't give sufficient time in the supporting characters death or reasons why they sided against Kane in the first place. The ending was just lacking
I’ve absolutely loved this series. It’s dark fantasy king and wonderful human interaction is awesome and sucks you right in. Unputdownable. I couldn’t wait to read the next book. Great HEA ending ❤️
