From Nothing to Confusion: My Religious Odyssey

Rate this book
Religion is complicated. And sometimes we want the crazy noise around us to just stop.

But life has no pause button. We get tossed from adventure to adventure, experience after experience, trying to piece together who we are and what our purpose is in this crazy world.

My religious odyssey, from where I started to where I am now, has been long and filled with trials and tribulations. I started with nothing but the Jewish privilege of birth, growing up not even knowing the Jewish alphabet. And the process of getting to where I am now has been adventurous, to say the least. Some events even come close to destroying me, physically, spiritually, or emotionally.

However, I was set apart and chosen for the path I'm on. I persevered and continue to do so. I've learned so much throughout my journey, and I want to share all of my lessons and realizations with you, my precious reader.

In From Nothing to Confusion, you will learn everything about how my story begins with a vicious and violent attack, takes me to several corners of the Jewish world, and lands me in the Land of Israel. From my first days with the Reform Movement to sitting in Jerusalem in 2019 loaded with skepticism and doubt, my story is long and complex... and it is only just beginning! Please come along for the ride.

Step inside From Nothing to Confusion and discover:

-How getting beaten half to death actually saved my life

-How I became a Reform Jew... and why the experience would ultimately almost destroy me

-Whether or not you are just an insignificant sidenote in history

-Why I love Chabad, but will never feel like it's my true home

-That Jewish community action is sometimes a big fat lie

-Whether or not Judaism is an apple

-How I accidentally and unwillingly became an Orthodox Jew

-The Jewish objection to Jesus and how it relates to my journey

-How manipulation backfires and weakens faith

-My experiences with Jewish dating and Jewish matchmakers, and how it all damn near destroyed my soul

I read this book today for September's genre, though the poll isn't up yet. I left out quite a bit on purpose.
This book questions interpretation in finding a connection to to feel secure
with ones own jewish identity.
Growing up reform was a given in Jaffe's family and not questioned.
But, when he was in college, he attended a conservative service, the only one available. He felt insecure and cheated. This would begin the struggle for his jewish identity. While questioning everything, Jaffe began taking courses in Judaism, and became more confused.
Seeking a rabbi's help in guidance; the rabbi explained one cannot find their jewishness by taking courses and through study; but rather, in order to find what you are looking for, one must experience it.
Each experience is personal and different for everyone.
Whatever that may be, you will know when you find it.
