wow. Once again an entire book of fantastic fantasy/SiFi art of all types. Whatever your likes in art form this book will have something for you. Always some serious entertainment for the eye and mind. highly recommended

Dieses SPECTRUM umfasst auch bereits im 27. Jahr Fantasy- und Science-Fiction-Kunstwerke in den verschiedensten Kategorien, darunter Buch, Comics, Film, Horror, Illustration, Skulptur, Konzeptkunst, Kunst und Videospiel. Mit außergewöhnlichen Bildern von außergewöhnlichen Künstlern, präsentiert diese elegante und farbenfrohe Kollektion wie immer einen internationalen Kader von Schöpfern, die in jedem Stil und Medium arbeiten - sowohl traditionell als auch digital. Es zeigt mehr als 350 Werke von über 220 verschiedenen Visionären, darunter Tommy Arnold, Wylie Beckert, Rovina Cai, Dan dos Santos, Jesper Ejsing, Cory Godbey, James Gurney, Iain McCaig, Tran Nguyen, Greg Ruth, Cynthia Sheppard und Yuko Shimizu, um einige zu nennen. Sie alle setzen in Spectrum 27 die etablierte Frische und Exzellenz fort, die vor 27 Jahen begonnen hat.
Mit Claudya Schmidt ist auch wieder eine deutsche Künstlerin vertreten, die hier mit dem Comic Silver Award ausgezeichnet wurde. Daneben wurden auch wieder Awards für verschiedene Genres vergeben, unter denen sicherlich die Vergabe des Spectrum Grand Master Awards an Terryl Whitlatch heraussticht, der bekannt wurde als Creature Designer u.a. für Spielbergs ILM aber auch für Lucasfilm. Ein Band, der mich (und meine Augen) wieder einmal auf jeder der 304 dicken Hochglanzseiten begeistert hat.
Nur das Titelbild von Tommy Arnold, das auch das Titelbild von "Harrow the Ninth" repräsentiert, konnte mich nicht sehr einnehmen, wahrscheinlich weil ich den (Roman)-Erstling dieser Reihe von Tamsin Muir (Ich bin Gideon) ob seiner Horror-Attitüde nicht zum Lesen animieren konnte...

I look forward to this book every year because it never disappoints. Even if few of the pieces blow you away, it’s always interesting and diverse, from comic book art to sculpture to book covers and more.
I didn’t really see much commonality in the various works this year. Maybe “barbarian warriors” or “woodland fairies” if I’m pressed to pick predominant themes, but just barely as there was a wide selection from across the... okay, yeah, spectrum.
The cover is also Tommy Arnold’s cover for Harrow the Ninth, and I’ve noted that art before, because it’s amazing.
My favorite this year is called “Quest” by Mike F. Miller (http://www.mikefmiller.com/):
