Naturally, the orphan boy catches the judgmental eye of more than a few nobles, though he is ever under the watchful gaze of a beautiful and doting instructor. Through his trials and tribulations, Rio’s prowess opens the door to an adventure spanning continents, international incidents, love triangles―even an assassination attempt by an adorable werefox girl. Can Rio find himself while protecting the ones he loves? The stakes have never been higher as worlds collide!
It's amazing what having world building and character development will do for a story - and since both of those things were left out of the anime adaptation, I'm particularly appreciating them here. The second half of the second volume, set in the village of the spirit folk, isn't quite as good as the rest of the omnibus, but I really do like the author's more reasoned take on isekai and how Haruto and Rio are two completely separate people based on the worlds they grew up in.
