Arterial blood gas analysis plays an indispensable role in the assessment and management of patients with a huge range of acute medical and surgical problems. Its importance as a key tool in the work-up of acutely unwell patients rivals that of the ECG and the chest x-ray. This book covers all aspects of the arterial blood gas in a simple, user-friendly manner. The first part explains the technique, the values obtained and common patterns of abnormalities, while the second part comprises a series of worked examples and case scenarios to allow the reader to put this system into practice.
Easily the most concise and easy to grasp source I've come across with regards to Arterial Blood Gases interpretation. It initially elucidates the basic concepts and mechanisms behind this test, then provides 30 case scenarios related to multiple pathologies and diseases. Highly recommended.
Arterial Blood Gas analysis is something nearly every resident doctor will face. Thus, it would not be surprising that acquiring good deal of knowledge is very important. Here, this book becomes quite handy. It starts from the fundamentals of ventilation and gas exchange taking place in the lungs. After that, starts to dig a little deeper in what ABG is about and how to interpret it, just a little deeper, that is it, you do not need a background on ABG to make use of this book, but it will not give a lot. However, I think it will fed you with what you need to know as a first-year resident.
The book could be thought as two sections; the first provides the reader with the theoretical knowledge required, and the second contains 30 clinical cases that test his/her understanding and help strengthen their ability to use this understanding in solving clinical problems.
In short, the book is concise, teaming with colorful images, easy-to-read and understand; within hours, the reader would have finished it and got a basic (and good indeed) understanding of ABG.
This book, along with two YouTube videos, provides comprehensive instruction on arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and interpretation. Additionally, the book includes 30 case studies at the end, which are highly beneficial.
Arterial Blood Gases as a topic is a real nightmare. They're both simple & complex as oxymoron as that might seem. But the book really manages to make them easy. The 2 charts that summarize the scheme along with the 25 practice cases in the end of the book are really helpful.
