What a beautiful combination of humorous and heartwarming this comic is!

Sue, a seventeen year old house cat, is enjoying the relaxation of her ‘senior-citizen’ days. Her plans are thrown for a toss when her owner brings home a mischievous new kitten named Tai-chan. Poor Sue! From being allowed to sleep to being awakened all hours of the day, from getting to eat her meals in peace to being pestered about foods, Sue’s life goes haywire. Do you think Sue will enjoy being a ‘cat-sitter’ to little Tai?

Konami Kanata is known for her cat manga ‘Chi's Sweet Home’. This book showed me how adorable her works can be. Tai-chan is drawn in such a cute kawaii style that you will feel tempted to pull his cheeks in every panel. Sue is the perfect antithesis, what with her frustrated looks and overdrawn sighs.

The whole book isn’t exactly one story but a series of mini misadventures the two cats get into, mainly because of Tai-chan’s naughtiness. Not surprisingly for a cat story, the book is peppered with a variety of mews and meows and mrows, the translation of each being written next to the sound. This added so much more fun to the proceedings.

The book is just volume 1, so there is a slightly incomplete ending to the issue, but nothing like a cliff-hanger. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next issue!

Cat lovers, you can’t miss out on this one!

5 purry meows for this gem!

My thanks to Kodansha and NetGalley for the ARC of “Sue & Tai-chan 1”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Konami Kanata’s renowned for her cat-centred manga, this is the first of her ongoing series focused on Sue and Tai-Chan. Sue’s an older housecat who lives alone with her human Natsuki, she’s settled and dignified, content to sleep all day. Then her life’s disrupted by the sudden arrival of a rumbunctious kitten Tai-Chan who’s desperate to play. This is incredibly sweet, horribly cute without being cloying, often hilarious, a slice-of-life manga comprised of fresh, uncluttered, full-colour images. The layout’s been tweaked for the English-language market, there’s little work to be done in terms of translation, Sue and Tai-Chan communicate using variations on meow, which are transformed on the page into simple sentences and phrases, making this suitable for young-ish children, as well as adults who aren't too jaded to respond to this kind of gentle humour. I’m not a cat person, at all, but I really enjoyed this one, and I’m looking forward to tracking down more in the series. Translated by Melissa Tanaka.

Everyone knows that cats and manga are basically created for eachother, so I certainly can't say no to a cat-themed manga. And this has cuteness coming out of its ears, and that's fine, but I just didn't really connect with the art style, and that's about 75% of a cat-manga.

Middle-of-the-road cute, is that a thing?

My thanks to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for a review copy of this manga.

Sue and Tai-Chan is the charming first volume of the adventures of Sue a seventeen-year-old cat, and Tai-Chan, a tiny black kitten. Natsuki, Sue’s ‘human’ is handed a box with Tai-Chan a little kitten to look after. He tries to refuse, saying he has a cat already but the giver (whom we don’t see) doesn’t listen to any excuses. And with that Tai-Chan arrives in their home. Sue is seventeen and like any senior cat wants to spend much of her time sleeping while Tai-Chan is small and like any kitten playful and inquisitive. Sue isn’t bad natured but obviously initially a little annoyed by his presence. But in a little while she soon starts to become accustomed to him and his ways—his wanting to play all the time—and begins to look after him and make sure he doesn’t land in too much trouble. In the manga, we follow a set of their every day adventures, as Tai-Chan explores his new surroundings and is curious about everything he sees around him, while Sue struggles to keep up with the little fellow.

This was a very sweet and light read, which highlight small snapshots of every day life, with no major drama but little adventures—from Tai-Chan exploring and attempting to understand his new home and surroundings, what his litter box is for, what he can eat and not eat, not to make too much racket at night, and even what a watermelon is. Sue is of course not as energetic, but she is good natured and mostly gives in to Tai-Chan’s demands to play, and often takes care of him—giving him a clean when needed and making sure he is safe when he vanishes from sight. Both cats are loveable and endearing. Natsuki appears off and on, but the focus of our story is the two cats and their relationship.

One can see from the story that the author knows her cats, and captures their natures and mannerisms really well—from Sue not wanting to move too much because she is an older cat, to Tai-Chan’s boundless energy, endless curiosity, and penchant for trouble—all perfectly done. Also things like Tai-Chan being more interested in Sue’s food than his own (that’s nothing to do with age, though!).

This one ended on a cliff-hanger of sorts (one knows what is going to happen but what that will lead to is to be seen—all fun, I think in keeping with the tone of the series) but one that made me want to run and pick up the second volume unlike my usual reaction to cliff-hangers.

This is a manga that any cat-lover would adore, and really one anyone can pick up for a delightful look into everyday life—with no drama or such—just small bits of fun!

Oh and unlike some other mangas I’ve read, this one can be read in the ordinary way—left to right. It also has some info like the use of honorifics in Japan/Japanese.

Sue a senior cat meets her new little friend, Tai-chan, and she can't have a proper sleep anymore and catch up playing with him.
I very recently pas this condition, with a little different, 4 Sue, and 2 Tai-chan. And now I try to make peace between 6 Sue and a doggy Tai!
But I should mention that If you think kittens are messy, just try puppy to see how the home will be exploded.

Sue & Tai-chan volume 1 by Konami Kanata was my first book from the author, I'm going to read more as there are many books with her cat characters.

This isn’t exactly a book review, ok just read it. It's funny and adorable with many cute pictures.

Many thanks to Kodansha Comics via NetGalley for giving me the chance to read Sue & Tai-chan volume 1 by Konami Kanata, I have given my honest review.

This is the cutest thing. A treat for cat lovers and those who like their comics sweet and tender. Sue is the old cat, set in her ways, happy with her peaceful dotage, and then along comes the new kitty in the house, Tai-chan. This is not ideal for Sue at all. She has to teach Tai-chan how to behave in order to have a peaceful life. This book is her struggle. It is gorgeous.

One-Liner: Super duper cute.

• Illustrations- check
• Adventures- check
• Naughtiness- check
• Fluffy fur balls with big eyes- check

The book has everything a cat lover would want. It’s a collection of slice-of-life incidents as the senior cat, Sue, has to babysit Tai-chan, a curious little kitten. Someone gives Natsuki Tai-chan for a few weeks, and he hands over the kitten to his aging cat Sue. Tai-chan makes Sue run around the house when all she wants to do is sleep. Tai-chan finds his friend, guide, and family in Sue.

Isn’t the concept beautiful? The illustrations, text size, and layout are neat and appealing. The dialogues are to the point and easy for kids to read. Another bonus is the different types of meows and mews cats use to express themselves.

To sum up, Sue & Tai-chan is a sweet, cute, adorable, and lovely collection of teeny misadventures in Natsuki’s house.

Thank you, NetGalley and Kodansha, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

What can I say? It's another adorable kids' cat manga from Kanata Konami, this time about a senior cat whose person takes in a kitten "temporarily." It reminds me very much of when we rescued a kitten and our then-sixteen-year-old cat was decidedly unamused. (She's still unamused at 19, although he's more tolerable as a three-year-old.)

As an added bonus, the cultural notes section includes "Mx." alongside "Mr." and "Ms." as one of the titles the honorific "-san" stands for. Good job, Kodansha!

Loved it. This manga is just pure joy, I mean how could you not love it? Short adventures of cute cats.

Poor Sue at 17 is used to living her days relaxing and enjoying her space, but suddenly Tai-chan is brought home, and peace and quiet are no longer options.

Throughout the story each little chapter shows an interaction between the learning and exploring Tai-chan, and the wiser Sue. I found it enjoyable to watch their relationship grow and see how Tai-chan brings some joy and life to Sue even though at times she struggles to keep up, and to watch as Sue teaches Tai-chan some tricks.

SUE & TAI- CHAN V1
Kanata Konami

I love cats and this is an adorable graphic novel about a little kitten that goes to live with Sue who is an elderly house cat. Sue is terribly put upon by the appearance of Tia-Chan because he is so little that he knows nothing. She has to teach him everything when all she really wants to do is nap! This little guy is a mess and while Sue needs an extra nap, she seems to really love Tai-chan.

Cute, cute, cute and I love the graphics.

This was a cute read!

I feel in many ways this is a classic "kid-friendly" manga that I see recommended in manga circles often. I'm thankful to finally have read it and experience these two cats for myself!

I would not say it's my favorite cat manga I've read, but I did feel bad for Sue-chan at the beginning and loved her interactions with Tai-chan. There interactions were at times very cute and sometimes very funny, making this a fun and easy-going story to read.

I would definitely recommend this to those who are looking for a kid-friendly manga and those who want a light-hearted story centered around cats.

Cats are my favorite animal, by far. I have four myself and would pretty much do anything for them. So when I saw this cute cover on Netgalley, I knew I wanted to request it. Especially since it reminded me that graphic novels can be really enjoyable! They're quick to read and give you just the right amount of cuteness in your day.

Overall, in Sue & Tai-chan, you will meet two cats, Sue, an old cat who just wants to nap all day and a new unexpected addition to the family : Tai-chan, the kitten full of life, full of energy who just wants to play with everything at any time of the day. We'll see how the two opposites get along eventually and it was pretty sweet to be honest.

I'm definitely looking forward to more graphic novels in my future!

[Thanks to Kodansha and Netgalley for a CRC in exchange for an unbiased review.]

Sue is an elderly cat who is looking to spend her remaining years blissfully asleep. Enter the unexpected arrival of kitten energy in the form of little Tai-chan. Will Sue warm to this wee bit of mischief? Or is she doomed to be a perturbed senior citizen for the rest of her life?

Poor Sue. This is another in the long list of cute cat books and while I am an avowed cat lover, these types of series tend to mostly be just okay for me. They are the slightest slices of life and they can function as a warm hug or fond reminder of a pet, but anything meatier than that? Eh, not so much.

And so it goes here. It’s probably my own stance as a nap aficionado talking, but watching poor Sue’s restful elder years be interrupted by Tai-chan strikes me as totally unfair. Sue’s owner has as much common sense as fashion sense, it seems (seriously, that cardigan was alarming).

Yes, the two of them get closer and there are many a sweet moment and instance of ‘classic cat’ in the mixture, but with her life not exactly stretching out before her, I wish Sue could get her reward without having to play surrogate mom.

Of course, then there’s no book, and it’s not like Tai is being mean or intentionally cruel to Sue, she just has that intense kitten energy that cannot be stopped unless it is fully exhausted by causing mayhem and getting stuck into things. She’s a very adorable goof, but in a way that I find exhausting.

If you like these types of books, I think you’ll be very happy watching Tai bounce all over creation and Sue learn to live with and love her new roomie. If you don’t, I can’t see this really changing anybody’s mind about the genre.

3 stars - it’s mostly inoffensive, but completely not my thing. Cute cat books are cute, but I always find myself wanting a bit more out of them than I get.

Personal Ratings : 4.25🌟

A very light and easygoing manga that puts a smile on your face and one that can really put away the bad days. I love mangas that are associated with cats and this one is about a situation that is very familiar to people that owns cats; which is getting the older cats to accept newer kittens in the house.

Short Summary
Natsuki owns a cat called Sue-Chan. She has been with him for awhile and when Natsuki's neighbour suddenly offered a stray cat that he had found, he couldn't refuse him. Came in Tai-chan, the black kitten that will make Sue-Chan's life turned upside down. The manga is a story of Sue-chan and Tai-chan together and how they're adapting with one another. A realistic portrayal of how the cats interact in a household and just a story that warms your heart and into the world of cats.

Personal Thoughts
The drawing was something more of a comic than a manga but I still liked it anyways. Its a full coloured comic that is just so so so cute. I loved every shenanigans that Sue-chan had to put up with Tai-chan and how, at the end of the day, she had just accepted him in their life. Its just a book that is filled with fluff and cheered up my day. What with Sue-chan being old and literally just annoyed with the kitten who is super active, at the end of the day, they're becoming a family which is just wholesome.

A read that had made me smiled through the chapters. I love it!

Thank you to Kodansha and Netgalley for generously providing me an e-arc of the book.

Sue is just an older cat living her best life with her best bud, her human, Natsuki. Things take a turn when he brings in a kitten named Tai-chan, who is active and extremely curious. What is Sue to do when she just wants to peacefully lounge when Tai-chan keeps bugging her to play?

I was sad when Chi’s Sweet Home finally came to an end. Then I learned that there were going to be some spin-offs and got excited. Like Chi’s Sweet Home, Sue & Tai-chan is a cute, sweet, and all around wholesome story that’s perfect for all ages. It’s the type of feel good story that everyone needs in their life while being the perfect story for kids. If this was around when I was a kid, it would’ve been something my mom and I would’ve read together, so I can see it being a family read for anyone with younger kids.

We follow Sue, who is an older house cat that’s slowed down and likes to lounge more than she plays. She spends her day relaxing and living her best life with Natsuki when he has the nerve to bring in a new cat, Tai-chan! We also follow Tai-chan, who is extremely curious and just loves to play and explore. Poor Sue just wants to sleep and relax, but Tai-chan wants to become friends, play, and become involved in everything she and Natsuki are up to. It’s such a cute and fun story that it’s something that could be read again and again whenever one needs a pick-me-up.

The artwork is absolutely adorable and colorful. The style really brings the story to life. I’ve always loved seeing all the expressions on the different cats and people that appear in Kanata Konami’s stories. The panels are always simple but colorful, making it easy for small readers to follow along without getting lost. I’m excited to start this new series and can’t wait to read the second volume.

This was SO CUTE!

I loved how when a cat said meow it also had a 'translation', as I would love to know what my cat is saying haha.

As I recently got a kitten I definitely know a lot of these interactions, even though my other cat isn't a senior, she really acts like one sometimes.

I would definitely recommend this for a fun read, and I would love to read more!

When I saw this one pop up on Netgalley it was an instant click to request! I have heard tons about this series + I also love the other works by Kanata Konami (Chiiiiiiiii), so I just had to read this one~

In this one we meet an old cat named Sue and a young cat named Tai. Sue’s owner was “forced” to take upon a new kitty and well, what will the older cat think of it? It sounded adorable as heck, and I just loved their first meeting. Sue very much unsure about the little ball of fuzz suddenly making his way into her quiet life, but she is also curious and interested which I quite loved. Though if only Sue knew what the kitty would really mean, haha but she finds that out immediately in the first chapter! Sue just wants to sleep, but Tai is a tiny kitten and wants to PLAY! Energy levels over 9000! I just felt for poor Sue and was happy that the owner decided to pick up Tai so Sue could have some rest, good job!

And the following chapters are Sue realising that this tiny little kitten isn’t leaving any time soon and that she has to live with it during her precious old days of rest and quiet. I did love that she was meowing to it to teach it how to do things or to tell it not to do things. She was like a mom, or well, grandmom. XD I loved how she took Tai under her wing despite how much it tired her. She was so sweet for the little kitten and I loved it. She even does some naughty/agile things that even she wasn’t expecting to do.

It was just the cutest and most hilarious to see Tai discover the world and all that is in there. And as you can guess, it didn’t always go so well. XD From getting stuck in the curtains to balancing and rolling away on a watermelon. It was just adorable!

But dear owners, never give your cat milk! Give it special cat milk!!! Also I would definitely recommend that the owner keeps an eye on the food and who gets what. Maybe separate them during feeding so you know both get the right food. Also who leaves their bath filled with water when you have a kitten/cat? It was that Sue was there, but I wonder if Tai would have gotten out safely if Sue wasn’t there.

I also had to get used to the way of reading. Normally I am used to right > left for manga, but here it was the normal way aka left > right. Which confused me greatly as this is a manga.

The art was, just like the other manga by this artist, superdupermega adorable and I was constantly awww-ing and ohhh-ing.

All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend this fun manga to all! It is cute, it makes you laugh, and the cats are great~ I cannot wait for the next volume!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodasha for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars overall.

Sue and Tai-Chan is a very cut story of two house cats - one much older and one a kitten living in the same space together and their day to day activities. As a cat owner and lover, I found this to be ultra cute and somewhat accurate in terms of cat behaviours. It was also a very cute look at each daily activity and broken up into those types of situations. The art was also clear and easy to see, the language was simple and easy to read. I enjoyed the relationship established between the two cats and with their owner!

If I found the next graphic novel, I would read it just to get some more cuteness!

Read this one twice because it's super adorable!

Sue & Tai-chan is a story about Sue, a gentle senior cat who lives a calm life where she can laze around all day. One day, her owner brought back a kitten named Tai-chan, taking care of the little guy temporarily for a friend. Tai-chan is a very energetic and curious kitten, eager to plant his nose into anything he finds. This disrupts Sue's calm daily life because Tai-chan has unlimited energy and demands her to play with her every time.

This story is told in short chapters, each of it showing how Sue handles the curious Tai-chan. From calming him down when arriving to a new place, to teaching him how to do potty in his own little box, to playing around and being chased by the young one around the house, getting into trouble together.

I love that despite Sue getting tired easily due to her age, and wants more than nothing to nap all day, when Tai-chan is not in front of her, she worries about him a lot. It's basically a story of how the senior cat adopts in the energetic kitten.

Their dynamic is so lovely to read, and their conversations in "meows" are so funny as well. The creator made a wonderful job depicting how cats act, and the chaoticness is definitely . I'm looking forward to more adventures from these two adorable cats!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for the digital review copy!

Ultra cute story of a cat owner that agrees to watch a friend’s kitting for a bit, much to the surprise of their “senior citizen” cat. They have fun adventures with the older car teaching the kitten new stuff but always ending up tired of the kitten’s seemingly infinite energy. Not quite as much content compared to Chi’s Sweet Home but enjoyable nonetheless.

Sue & Tai-chan is definitely a story that's worth checking out if you are a major cat-lover. I think that it is very well done for what it is. It's a sweet, light read and is of course very, very cute. The story follows the adventures of Sue, an old cat that's set in her ways, and the new kitten that has entered her world. Is the kitten a blessing or a curse?

Sue & Tai-chan delivers exactly what you'd expect from it. The stories are fun, humorous, and full of cats! What's not to like? If you are a cat person and are looking for a fun read, then this is a must for you. I can't imagine anyone really disliking this series unless they just were somehow not aware of what they were getting themselves into. Sue & Tai-chan isn't complicated and fulfills its promise to the reader perfectly.

Sue-Chan is a 17 year old tiger cat, happy to sleep most of the day away, until her owner is forced to take in a kitten, Tai-Chan, who doesn't want to sleep all day. What kitten would want to do that? She wants to play and play and play.

So this volume is about that. Really, the whole book is ways that Tai-Chan tries to get Sue-chan to play when she wants to sleep.

It is cute, and very much keeping cat light, though we can read their thoughts. If you have ever had an older cat with a kitten, the antics are very familiar.

Very cute book.
