Solitary Man is the third book in the Smith Brothers series by Sherilee Gray. I loved the first two books in this series so when I realized there was going to be another addition, there might have been some jumping for joy involved. Then when I saw the cover, well, you can figure the rest out!

wife wanted ad - Google Search

Cash Smith is a cousin to Hank and Beau from the previous two books. Cash was an only child so lived a solitary life in their mountain home. But ten years ago, when Cash lost his parents, it’s just been him. He owns a plane so he makes monthly deliveries to other remote residents of the mountain once a month. Other than that, he’s by himself. Cash wants a woman to care for, that will care for him, keep him company, sleep beside him. So he puts an ad in the FindMeAHusband.com website. And the woman that responds seems to be the perfect fit.

small plane with wheels - Google Search

Riley Lewis needed to get out of the city. She wasn’t safe there anymore. It was by chance that she ran across Cash’s ad. Riley had always been able to get a feeling about something and she was usually right. One look into Cash’s eyes from his photo and she just knew that it was where she was supposed to be.

When Riley and Cash finally unite in person, their connection is instant and strong. But how can Cash ever admit to Riley that because he has lived here alone all his life, that he’s never been with a woman, ever?! And Riley is so sweet and soft. The things he thinks about doing to her! She should run for safety.

“I didn’t deserve her, this. But I was going to take what she offered. Take everything she was willing to give. And I was going to keep her, no matter what.”

First of all, Cash was HOT! He might have been a virgin but this man! Whew! He was so afraid he would break her! But Riley was a lot tougher than he thought! Cash might have had trouble expressing himself in daily conversation but in the bedroom, this man was a dirty talker! And I loved it! Of course, their path can’t be easy. There are some glitches while they try to figure things out.

This is a quick, steamy, sweet and fun little book! I love books like this that you can read in a day. Riley and Cash steamed up the pages. Cash though, made me swoon. He used a particular endearment that always does it for me. If you know me, then you know what it is. If not, you’ll soon find out.

Oh sweet mountain man!!! Cash is absolutely, undeniably the type of hero I crave to read about. He’s huge. He grunts. He’s honest. He’s reliable. He’s got an unreasonable jealous streak he fights against and he’ll do whatever is needed for the betterment of his woman.

This is a heartwarming read that is absolutely perfect for a few hours when you want to indulge yourself in some delicious, steamy, wonderfulness. It coincides with characters and a plotline that will pull you in from the first page and keep you until the last. There is just enough angst to keep you engaged along with the dynamics of this couple that will have you glued to the pages to see what happens next between them.

I couldn’t love this couple more. They were perfect for each other and it’s as though this author knows exactly what I need for those times when I want a feel good read to take me away. I’m completely addicted to this series and I’m hoping this will not be the last. If you like a big hulking hero that grunts and grumbles, a little naive when it comes to women, but fierce in their protection of them, this is it ladies! This is it!

It was fine. Lots of sex. My fave kind of man - few words, gruff, big, protective. Knows how to make a woman feel good despite being a virgin.

Nothing wrong with the writing. Just... OK. Seems like the same formula for this whole series, so I will likely not read the other books, tho the first 1 is free. I paid for this one (virgin gets $$ 😁)

Holy HOT Cash!!
This was such a DELICIOUS read!

After reading books 1 and 2, Mountain Man and Wild Man, I knew I needed this one in my life.
Cash Smith currently owns my heart.

Bearded, beast of a mountain man…check.
Wanting badly to be loved…and having SO MUCH love to give back…check, check.
Lonely, never been with a woman, and fiercely protective… check, check, and CHECK.

I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough on this well-written novella about a beautiful man of few words with a heart as big as the world. He puts out an ad for a wife, hoping to find his perfect match, someone who will find him worthy.

Riley’s life hasn’t been the easiest. Having parents who realized having a child wasn’t all that fun, who ignored her most of her life, made her crave love and affection. After seeing a photo of Cash in a ‘Wife Wanted’ ad, she just knew she had to meet him.

The author does a fabulous job at making me FEEL everything.
I felt an immediate connection to the characters.
I cared for them.
I experienced their passion.
I wanted their happiness.

Having never been intimate with a woman, Cash sure was eager to please his wife any way possible. His lack of words during every-day conversations? He sure made up for it during those steamy scenes. That man has a dirty mouth and I LOVED every single minute of it.

Yes. Please. Darlin'.

Riley is a vulnerable, yet strong heroine who knew what she wanted. And she made sure Cash knew it. Cash is an adorably, sexy AF, yet self-conscious, caring man with a heart of gold. And together, they made me all sorts of satisfied and gave me tingles in all the right places.

Do you need to read books 1 and 2 to enjoy this story? I would say no.
But will you enjoy this one that much more if you do? Definitely YES.

I would love to snuggle HARD with Cash Smith.

3 star book rounded up because of the deliciously inexperienced guy. Why do i love a male virgin? Not gonna delve into that too far. Know what’s even better? A dirty talking virgin- yum.

There was some good smut here, some sweetness , a bit of yearning angst, a whole lotta failure to communicate. Also some wood splitting and chocolate cake.

BUT. The (understandably) reticent hero had a habit of saying “Yep.” And while that should be ok... i could only picture that grubby cross-eyed kid gif, which was awkward.

This book also had one of the most hilariously worded awkward sentences I’ve read all month: “i was in PJ shorts that I’d tugged on after Cash had made me come three times and a tank.” Three times and a tank is also my own personal orgasm goal.

My only other beef is the cover. That dude is not rugged and has quite possibly never worked outdoors. He’s far too metrosexual to be close to the dude in the book. I wish publishers found better matches to the content, but whatever.

A nice fast read for the thirsty.

That was short, steamy and so darn cute I just can't!!
I freaking loved it!

There were only two things that bugged me. One was the lack of communication but tbh that wasn't a big issue for me here.
Because Cash Smith was such a sweetheart, I honestly inhaled this book in one sitting!

The other one was the last scene when they make up. I wanted sth sweet and cute and not another round of rough banging. Hence the missing star.
But all in all I still loved it!

Highly recommend to fans of loner, virgin heroes, a marriage of convenience and those who like things cute and steamy at the same time.
Will deffo read other books in the series.

The last one in this series of novellas! I really liked Cash. He was a big growly guy, but shy and insecure at the same time. He hasn’t been in contact with many people the last 10 years and it showed. Riley was a breath of fresh air. She was bubbly and mature. It was fun to see these two grow into their marriage and boy did they have some hot spicy times, phew! Cash was a virgin, but picked up on what to do reallly quickly ;-)
A wonderful OTT, unrealistic novella that is the perfect escape to real life for an hour or two ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Safety:

“Life was just a series of events, some wonderful…some not so wonderful...”

This book was a complete surprise for me, Sherilee Gray writes sexy and edgy stories, if you’re looking for a quick steamy read, with a great plot, an alpha hero and hot chapters… well this is it for you!

Two lonely souls, a marriage by agreement, Cash and Riley, both with different reasons to want it, but would it work? Through email exchange, they got to known each other, the solitary man who loves the simplicity of living in the woods, and the beautiful woman whose solitude was quickly becoming hard to handle; but what happens when meeting face to face that one person who you thought you knew, but maybe you don’t… not really.

A stand alone, steamy, drama free and so easy to read!!

This is a short and sweet romance that grabbed me from start to finish. The way Cash and Riley find each other, Riley doing her best to break Cash out of his shell. I love how the dual POV adds to the experience, showing us how Cash, while he comes across as silent and gruff, really deals with his feelings for Riley. Heartwarming for sure!

This was a fast steamy read. I loved Cash. The quite recluse of a man who your heart breaks for. He was very sweet and Riley was perfect for him. There’s not much to say because it’s very fast paced but if you need a good, hot palate cleanser then this would work perfect. I read it in an hour so good when you want a fast read. 4 stars #2OCCJD

So I really loved this book, I've been looking for a book with a confident, take charge heroine and I got one here. I've been looking for a Hero who didn't pursue the heroine for whatever reason, and I got one here. He wanted her, don't get me wrong. Badly. But he was so used to being alone. He was awkward with her and ashamed about being naive to sex and relationships. He was worried about hurting her or depraving her; that she would hate him or be disgusted by him. The heroine was steadfast and loving. Oh yeah and this book was HOT!! 5 stars

This book y’all. WHEEEEEEW. If you love steam to go with your sweet GRAB THIS NOW! Sherilee Gray does a brilliant job of writing a hero who is so freaking adorably shy and thoughtful you just want to hug him while also making him so incredibly hot you might just drool a little bit.
Cash might just be one of my favorite heroes ever. He’s just so dang lovable. This man is ALL MAN, and at first might come off as gruff but once you see inside his head you’ll learn quick he’s one giant teddy bear. The way he absolutely adored Riley was *swoon* so freaking beautiful.
If you need a book that’s going to make you feel good in a multitude of ways I highly suggest grabbing Solitary Man!

2.5 stars. I started off really loving this but towards the end he kept shutting her out too much for my liking. Yes, I know that he was scared of losing her but it was frustrating. I would have liked if she would have left and for him to chase/find her realizing what an idiot he was being.

3.5 stars--SOLITARY MAN is the third instalment in Sherilee Gray’s contemporary, adult SMITH BROTHERS erotic romance series focusing on the Smith family who live and work in the Colorado Rockies. This is pilot and builder Cash Smith, and erotic romance writer Riley Lewis’s story line. SOLITARY MAN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Cash Smith is the cousin of Hank and Beau (Smith Brother 1 & 2).

Told from dual first person perspectives (Cash and Riley) SOLITARY MAN follows the building relationship between pilot and builder Cash Smith, and erotic romance writer Riley Lewis. Like his cousin Beau, Cash Smith placed an online ad looking for a wife never expecting to fall in love but Cash’s online ‘dating’ with Riley Lewis was built upon a lie, a lie Cash believes will destroy any chance of a future with the woman with whom he is falling in love.

Riley Lewis is on the run, running from a past that refuses to let go. Marrying Cash Smith gave Riley a chance for a future but Cash’s inexperience and his continuous withdrawals finds our heroine struggling to believe if there is any future between them. Cash Smith has no experience with the opposite sex, in fact, our hero has no idea where to begin, or how to act with our story line heroine. If not for his cousin Landon Smith, Cash believes Riley would never have agreed to marry.

The relationship between Riley and Cash begin as an online meeting when Riley replied to an ad for a wife. Believing Cash was a talkative, romantic at heart Riley will quickly learn that the man that she married is not the man with whom she had been having an online relationship. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Cash’s cousins Hank and his wife Birdie (Mountain Man #1), Beau and his wife Freya (Wild Man #2), their cousin Landon Smith, as well as the numerous children between the original brothers.

SOLITARY MAN is a quick read; a story of family, loneliness, desperation and love . The familiar premise is entertaining; the romance is sensitive and imaginative; the characters are charming.

Riley Lewis was tired of going nowhere relationships, she wanted someone who wanted her for who she was, and someone who would be good to her heart. Which then lead her to doing something a little crazy, she saw an ad on social media and as soon as she saw his name she knew she had to answer his ad. Cash Smith was perfect for her. With the click of one little computer key her life was about to change, and she couldn't be more excited about it. With the weeks that followed they began getting to know one another via email, and before long she was agreeing to marry him. Some may think she was making the mistake of a lifetime, but the moment he stepped out of his plane she knew it was the best thing she had ever done. One look in the gentle giant's eyes and she knew she found home...

Solitary Man is a steamy little novella that will squeeze your heart in all the right places. Cash and Riley were perfectly crafted for one another, their personalities complimented each other nicely, they were each other's perfect half. Cash might not have always been good with words, but with one look Riley knew just what he was thinking and she said it for him with her actions. I enjoyed watching her coax him out of his shell, as much as I loved seeing her finally feel safe in a man arms. Watching these two discover their happily ever after was not only good for the heart, but also thoroughly satisfying too... Cash will have you swooning the whole way through! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

I certainly didn't expect any additional books in the Smith Brothers series. You know, given that there are just the two brothers. But then along came Solitary Man. No, there isn't a long-lost illegitimate half-brother lurking around. (Or, if there is, it isn't Cash!) But there IS this amazing Smith cousin.

Cash is another big, quiet, passionate, mountain of a man, who looks intimidating but is really just an absolute sweetheart! He lives a life even more isolated than his cousins, in such wilderness that the place is only accessible by air; and he's been pretty much living there alone for the last decade. It's no wonder that he decides to try and meet someone online (like his cousin Beau had done). Surprise, surprise (NOT!), he is not the best communicator; he doesn't really talk much at all, and he has a hard time expressing his feelings. So of course there are some misunderstandings with Riley after she arrives.

As it turns out, neither of them was being completely honest with one another in their email exchanges about themselves and their motivations and such. (Although, to be fair, only one of them actually knew that.) Unfortunately, all this does create some drama for them to work through. But there isn't much of anywhere for either of them to go (especially Riley), so they do eventually manage to get through to one another. And we definitely end up with another very happy Smith couple!

I received a free eBook copy of this title from the author, and have willingly provided an honest review.

My favorite type of hero is the quiet, awkward and gruff kind who is totally devoted to his girl (while not being overly alpha, possessive or cruel). And it's always a bonus when that hero is a virgin (and acts like it). So I adored the hero in this story quite naturally. He finds himself with an email order wife, Riley, and has no idea what to do with her, other than what his attraction to her drives him to do, but even that he's not comfortable with because he's insecure and afraid of hurting her. Riley on the other hand knows what she wants but can't get the hero, Cash, to open up about it and talk to her...because he's so used to being alone. And this confuses her because in the emails that they exchanged, he was much more willing to talk about himself. There's a reason for this and this ends up being a point of conflict, more for him than for her though.

For the first 50% or so, these two dance around each other and try to learn how to be husband and wife. Cash realizes he never thought about what having a wife would mean beyond having someone to take care of him adn keep him company. He never realized he'd be responsible for more than her physical safety...but also her emotional well-being, which he sucks at and this makes him feel even less worthy of her and so he avoids her and hurts her further. He's definitely on a learning curve. Riley keeps trying to talk to him and gets frustrated when he doesn't spill what's bothering him. Kind of a lather, rinse, repeat thing, with different problems to resolve, but this book is short enough that it doesn't feel too repetitive. And really, you definitely have to suspend disbelief to believe the set up here...I mean in this day in age a woman does not legally tie herself to a stranger and then head off to an isolated mountain with him (where a plane that she can't fly is the only means of leaving). But in accomplishing that suspension of disbelief, this becomes a really sexy and romantic book (but ouch my lady parts were feeling sympathy pains after some of these scenes).

Warning ⚠️ whilst reading this book, you may spontaneously combust from the heat!

Man oh mountain man, this book is exactly what I needed, a short, sweet, packed with heat romance, and to top it all off, our hero is a virgin. You read that right, the hero is a virgin, not the heroine for once, and I couldn’t love Sherilee Gray more for that! Authors please, I beg for more virgin heroes, it is definitely an underused trope.

Cash lives in a remote part of the country, accessed only by plane, so meeting women just isn’t going to help. Following his cousins success, Cash decides to advertise for a wife, and he can’t believe his luck when Riley answers his ad.

Riley has had bad luck with men recently and needs to get away, killing two birds with one stone, she answers Cash’s bride wanted ad, and is delighted with the funny, kind, sweet man she gets to know.

When Cash meets Riley it’s love and lust at first site, but Cash has been on his own so long he doesn’t know how to talk to people, especially a beautiful, experienced woman and his insecurities start to get the better of him.

Riley is speechless at the sight of Cash too, he’s much larger and more gorgeous than she thought, but he seems different to the chatty man she conversed with online, now she can’t get more than grunts and one word answers out of him unless they are in the bedroom.

When the situation finally comes to a head, these two are left stronger than ever in the end.

I absolutely adored both Riley and Cash, great, strong characters, and a sizzling sexy love story. Give me more.

Solitary Man is the third book in Sherilee Gray’s Smith Brothers’ series. In this book, readers meet Cash Wyatt Smith, he is a Smith cousin. Like the other in the Smith family, he is a reclusive mountain man. His residence is in a more remote area that the others. There are no roads leading to his home. He flies his personal small plane in an out. Like his cousin, Beau, Hank used a legitimate online dating service to find his soulmate. Riley Emeline Lewis, a romance author, answers his ad. They correspond through emails. Only, Hanks’ long-time friend, Landon, wrote the emails. Riley is rebounding from a failed relationship. Her ex-boyfriend stalked and terrorized her. She fled to the protection of Hank. What will they find happiness? How will Hank react once he discovers what Landon did? Will Riley be safe from her ex-boyfriend? To discover the answers to these questions, you must read this book.
Once again, Ms. Gray does a superb job in continuing this series. I wondered how she would do it when there were only two Smith brothers. I like that she made a logical move by widening the circle to include cousins. The male leads are all stoic, hardworking, loyal, and self-sufficient men. Like in the first two books, the lead characters are emotionally wounded. The plot depicts their evolution and romantic journey. Dialog is rich. Descriptive scenes are vivid allowing readers to be firsthand witnesses. Nice job, Ms. Gray!

Oh my lord I am still blushing - please sign me up for this Smith man. And what a man Cash is and a virgin to boot ! Well if you lived on your own miles from anywhere and your only transport was your little 2 sitter plane you sure aren't going to get much woman action! So with the rest of his cousins settled down (I must download the first two books) the shy but very hunky Cash is going to get his self a wife!

Riley needs out of the rat race and with her ex stalking her as soon as she sees an advert for a site showing the benefits (and what benefits there are) of moving to the mountains who couldn't say no. A few months of emails and a couple of calls and Riley is ready to make the move of her life and well if this piece of hunk was waiting for me I wouldn't be saying no. The book had me at hunky blue eyes! Only trouble is Cash doesn't seem to be as talkative in the flesh as he was by email - whats that all about. Cash can't believe that this blonde bombshell would want to stay with someone like him but now he has her and isn't letting go!

Come along for the ride of your life as Riley takes on the role of teacher 😜introducing Cash to things he could only dream of - and when a student as quick to learn as Cash it won't be long before the student becomes the teacher!

4 stars for the virgin mountain man and the beautiful erotic romance author. 🔥🔥🔥 Cash is so freaking sweet and vulnerable. He’s also such a cinnamon roll. He legit built her an office with his BARE HANDS. I mean the fully bear sized man can get it 🥵

I love that Riley actually fought for the marriage. 👏🏼👏🏼 She was all in. I also appreciated just how clear the author made it that Cash was a virgin. 🫰🏼 Too often we see hero’s that are virgins in name only. Cash was insecure. He was worried about pleasing Riley. Like it felt honest.

I wish we’d had more insight of the stalking because it just fell short as a major plot line. But overall it was an enjoyable read. I mean it knocked all novellas out of the park and set a new standard.

What I liked:
-dual pov
-virgin hero 😮‍💨
-rugged mountain man🥵
-completely obsessed hero 💁🏻‍♀️
-a more experienced heroine
-a heroine with an actual career
-the chemistry between the two main characters 🌶️🌶️🌶️

What I didn’t like:
-the stalking plot line could’ve been more fleshed out 🫤
-I got so tired of Cash running away. I totally get why he did but I wanted him to fight for Riley like she fought for him🙄
-I wish we could’ve seen why cash had been alone for 10 years. Yes his parents died but why didn’t he seek out companionship? 👀

This is a quick read and so very much worth it.
March 30, 2026
I actually stopped at 75% and feel satisfied that they are happy with each other and have their HEA. What was left at this point seemed to be to finally address the stalker ex-bf that the heroine had, and I was not up for that as I was ‘done’ with this couple and ready to move on.

I don’t feel like I ever really knew what anyone looked like. The only thing I remember reading about the hero was that he was huge like a mountain and had a big bushy beard. And the guy on the cover has no beard so that didn’t help… so without a description of the hero besides a bushy beard, and that he grunts instead of talks…. I kinda had a cartoonish image of him, and that’s not attractive. The heroine, I took away from the story that she was a little curvy. So I just didn’t feel engaged to the characters in that way.

The hero was a virgin… which I could buy as he grew up and still lived in an isolated part of the wilderness. (And was socially awkward). I’m just glad the author didn’t make him a pro at sex his first time at bat. (As other authors try to do). So that part was good.

The story WAS good. There just wasn’t much to it besides him learning about sex with his new wife. It would have been fun to read more into their non-sexual encounters that showed off their chemistry, etc.
