Aside from having humorous lines, it contains lots of life lessons (and a lot of things na makakapagpa "oo nga noh") that I personally concur with. I think it's going to be handy especially dun sa mga nag/magadulting (and even sa mga feeling adult like me lol) - abt how they can manage their emotional connection with money.
It's taglish and it contains relatable things kaya nakakalibang magbasa. I'm planning to read this again next year kasi I'm 17 palang when I started reading this, isa pa ulyanin ako, I don't think I already have the experience to relate and execute the things sugggested in it.
The author even shares her own personal experience that lines up with what most of us experience, very timely yung mga advice. May konting typo lang na di naman siguro mapapansin ng most number of readers (nakalimutan ko kung san part yon ahaha). I recommend this, malaman sya for a free one and madami talaga makukuha, you guys should try this.
Nearing the end of the book, I can't help but relate to this particular passage:
"Live intentionally. Ask and face bigger questions. Ask why. Do not allow other people to define who you are and who you can be. Your downfall starts when you try to prove yourself to others."
I love the conversational tone and masterful use of pinoy nuance to drive personal finance to the masses. This book will work for almost everyone! I love the quizzes too. Excited for your next book NFG! Notice me senpai.
Informative, easy to digest and life changing. It’s ticking all the boxes that I look for in my non fictional books.
This is definitely a must read for someone who is also partaking in life’s game called ✨adulting✨. I’m glad I’ve chosen to pick this book out among my TBR pile as my first read for 2022. 💛
Nomad Finance Girl is a wide reader. She has a Youtube channel sharing her favorite pieces in the books she read. This book is like her Youtube Channel. She shares all the things she read and how she applied them in real life. I am also reading the books she recommended and I find it fun to also find the things I pick up from other books be done in real life.
Anyway, after reading this book, I have contemplated a lot on the big question she raised here: What would you do if money is not an issue?
I am not sure if what I have is my final answer but this book is a really good guide.
“For those who take the leap—even if, and most especially because, they’re afraid.”
Partly financial, partly psychological, and partly autobiographical, Nikki Jurado’s "How To YOLO Wisely" is a well-illustrated book (courtesy of Janelle Dano) filled with personally experienced wisdom. At its core, this book asks a simple but frighteningly difficult-to-answer question: “What would you do if money isn’t an issue?” For one, this inquiry is hypothetical because, indeed, for most of us, the reality is that money is an issue—always has been, and sadly, for some, will always be. Thus, this book hopefully serves as your guide to a life of abundance, light, and love, worthy of dying for.
I love its conversational tone. Fortunately, this is one of those self-help books that doesn’t insist or guilt-trip but merely suggests. The main thesis of the book is divided into seven (7) steps, namely:
1. Set Your Foundation 2. Manage Your Money 3. Increase Your Income 4. Build Your Emergency Funds 5. Protect Your Money 6. Make Your Money Work 7. Build Your Legacy
As it turns out, Nikki is biased toward actions, and that’s for the best. In just two pages, she’s able to tell the capital-T Truth, our shared fate, all that life is about, onward to our death. We are born to die. She says, “Then, in the end, you die in a nice box that will rot anyway, and that’s it.” And I say, “Lol.” What a life.
There might be an afterlife after this one, but why would you wait for another? You must live this one. “Live intentionally,” she says. But also live absurdly, virtuously. “Have you ever truly lived?”
NFG also has a fascinating insight about the essence of freedom. “Real freedom is letting go of things not wanted.” It’s all about the essentials and the essentials only.
This might be a non-fiction book, but unlike others, this book elicits genuine emotions from me, from excitement to sadness. It also talks about the things that are more important than money. I love the Value Audit, the Money Jar System, and most especially, the power of preparedness and cultivating abundance and empowering mindsets and beliefs.
“When you run after someone else’s definition of success, will you really ever be free?”
This book i can relate to and touches my life and most of the learnings here i have learned from the books i've already read.
The systematic approach this book provide comes in handy and requires descipline to follow.
However, this book is made for filipinos who has zero to moderate knowledge in managing money and will welcome you to the world of investments and possibilities while enjoying and living your life according to your own design.
-attached all the quotes and points to ponder while reading this book--
Prioritize what is real, and drop what is fake.
Remember: You are exactly where you are beacause of your choices. Only by accepting this that you'll have control over your results.
What you focus on expands.
In this world filled with uncertainties , only the prepared survives.
We tend to forget that our money decisions don’t only affect us. They all directly affect the people important to us, too. This is why you can’t just jump to the “more exciting” parts like trading and investing.
Remember: trying to grow and multiply your money without protecting it first is like going into war nang nakabrip o panty lang.
The younger you are, the more time you have to grow your money.
Safeguard your future so that you can enjoy the present all you want.
You can have all the money in the world, but if you don’t even have the luxury of time for the people and reasons why you’re working so hard in the first place, then it just doesn’t make sense.
It all starts with awareness. When you realize that time is more valuable than money, then you’re already wealthier.
Live intentionally. We want to find meaning in our lives even if we know that death is inevitable
“Don’t be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don’t have to live forever; you just have to live.” -Natalie Babbitt,Tuck Everlasting
Assessment: moderate risk tolerance who needs a lot of help.
“Courage doesn’t happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life.” ― Shannon L. Alder
"What will you do if money isn't an issue?" (Spoiler alert this question keeps popping up as this is crucial for your foundation... better read it for more)
At first, it's easy to answer it but as I dive deeper with the question, it keeps getting harder because I kept on questioning if that is what I "really" wanted to do. Up to now, I still don't have a definite answer but I'll keep on questioning my self. I love the message of this book and as a self-proclaimed student of Stoicism I was reminded of Memento Mori but the message is clearer to me cause I'm reading it on kababayan's perspective.
Moreover, for me the most crucial message of the book is how to live now while preparing for the future. As the author stated, YOLO or You Only Live Once had got a negative connotations in recent years as it had been synonymous with being reckless or impulsive to have fun, mainly by young ages, as you only have one life. But the author breaks this stereotype by providing a better perspective and better ways to YOLO by providing a step by step ways to follow.
Better read the book if you're adulting, or wanted to change your financial well-being and YOLO wisely.
I also love the graphics ang illustrations. (First Edition, 2021)
Need I reiterate how awesome this book is? NFG has something in her that will push you to ACT. I remember one night I couldn’t sleep after reading one part of this book. Then the next morning, I immediately acted on something. Needless to say, this is a great book and I am just so happy and thankful that it’s free because at least for some who are struggling financially, they could at least be able to read and learn from it.
An easy read because of the font size. Been following NFG on FB and she always inspires and asks the right questions.
Love how the book breaks down the steps. But still, our money situations are unique and getting a coach will make the financial freedom journey faster vs diy-ing.
But the book talks about the foundations. It all starts with our mindsets.
Good read but must be partnered with action so we could all YOLO wisely.
Loved reading this. It’s informative and inspiring at the same time! Of course, NFG’s writings always are so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised 😅
Would recommend this to Pinoy bookworms out there who want to start reading those intimidating finance books but aren’t quite sure where to start. SOBRANG GANDANG START NITO, mga besh. 🤗
If you want to start living intentionally and comfortably, this book is a great place to start because it’s fun to read and easy to digest. Newbie-friendly as well because it provides definitions and explanations behind money-related terms without being intimidating. Here’s to a more secured (and dug, YOLO) future!
Informative and easily digested. This one is packed with discussions from an effective financial advisor who actually educates. As an FA myself, this resounded what we learned pre-license and during trainings. I like this book because it integrated anecdotes and life lessons from philosophy, movies, and successful businessmen and investors.
Great book to get grounded on finance. Tangible skills to acquire in terms of strategizing your money -- be it investments, fun, savings, insurances, and other financial instruments.
