Ryan I was supposed to be over her. I left her in the past and tried hard to forget everything that we shared. I lived my life to the fullest. I had been all around the world. I was a multi-millionaire actor that could have any woman that I wanted. But, I couldn’t forget her. I couldn’t leave her alone like I once promised her. I couldn’t stop thinking about the life that we would have had together if I hadn’t been so stupid. I lost more than I gained when I left her behind. Now, she was about to find out that the heart wants what the heart wants even if the mouth told a lie years ago.
Ava He left me behind. He told me that he wouldn’t ever regret letting me go. That he would never come back saying that he missed me and wanted me. I moved on with my life even though he almost broke me. I left him behind and moved back home. I kept my distance and married someone else. Now that I’m divorced, he wanted to come back to me. He wanted to pick up the pieces as if he didn’t rip my heart to shreds. He didn’t deserve a second chance. He didn’t deserve me. But, we had a daughter together, and I couldn’t make everything about me. So, how do I reconcile the man that he was with the man that he claims to be? And, how do I stop my heart from accelerating every time he touches me?
Ummm it was an ok read but there were a lot of inconsistencies. This book needs a good editing. At first his ex was Amanda and a Model then she was Kelsey and an Actress. Mercy’s makes was in the place of Avas. I guess Connor forgot about Ryan telling him he threatened Ava in there 1st conversation because it was news to him when he was visiting Ryan. But what I really didn’t like was that Ava forgave him pretty quickly to me. I could understand if it was just her he left but he left their unborn child and didn’t do anything for them for 7 yrs. It doesn’t matter if she wanted his help or not what kind of Man .....a rich man....does that. Ava was a pushover and Ryan was a deadbeat and neither learned from their mistakes. They went right back to having unprotected sex. And all the reasons for them not being together just disappeared. What happened to Ryan’s parents that he was so scared of telling he was with a black girl or his friends that teased him about dating her??? Was Connor one of them? I’ve never ranted about about a book but this story just rubbed me the wrong way. Ugh, I understand that it was a short book but I would’ve preferred them talking about the issues and working through them instead of just constantly hearing about how hurt Ava was in the past. She should’ve have left Mercy with him after she realized they got along and Ryan have to fight to get her back. I just can’t. Sorry about how long my Rant is. I’m done.
In serious need of editing - there were times Mercy or Ava's names were switched. Or the word "filling" instead of "feeling" was used - that one in particular happened twice. There were other instances but those ones were irksome.
They were in their mid-2os and Ryan has somehow grown up so much and has a life-time of regrets. and Ava has married and gotten divorced in that time too. Such a strange timeline but its all to excuse that Ryan was just young, scared and dumb to commit to an interracial relationship and have a baby so young. This needed to be acknowledged more because there is some serious harm here.
The story did not show Ryan's change or growth at all. He barely grovels. He says sorry, yes. But that was nowhere near enough. They didn't even show us the media/public being upset about him denying his child all these years. He just...gets away with it. And Ava is sooo quick to get into bed with him.
When she finally agrees to give Ryan a chance, he almost immediately proposes and she accepts. The hell? Girl, make him work for it a little.
They both go on about how they changed and "you don't know me anymore" and "I want to get to know the new you" but then they are so quick to say I love you and get married. Ok. Whatever.
But it ends so abruptly from there - she is pregnant and throwing up. Ryan is happy and they can "handle anything that comes their way" because they've already been through the worst. Greatttt.
In the beginning Ryan was a butt hole choosing breaking up with Ava the way he did while knowing she carried his child. Ava showed dignified poise and strength when walking away. A class act though she was hurting (not all sisters act ghetto). No excuses for how Ryan acted in college, nor him threatening to take Ava to court, but he truly loved Ava and wanted to be a father to his child, so he stepped up by doing the right thing to win them back and show Ava he truly did love her. Betrayal, lies, and heartbreak can hurt, however love can heal our pain if we can forgive. Thanks Ms. Williams, for a good book and I loved the song references. I too like country music so I've now added some new songs to my playlist. Hope Connor and Haley's story is next.
So When after reading The 1st paragraph of this book I was like okay it's gonna be a good 1 and when the 1st paragraph was she was saying what she was looking at when she came into the room and he was in the bed with a white woman And than that he couldn't be with a black woman not only a black woman but the woman that was pregnant for him He didn't want anything to do with her so Fast forward 7 years later He's had An epiphany about being with her now he won't her but He didn't wanna in the beginning so not come back in her life and say if he Don't be with him he was going to take her to Court What kind of BS is this
Overall, a good book. It was good to see the hero realize the magnitude of his mistake and his subsequent suffering. He was not a good man and he owned up to his cruelty. The heroine laid down the law with class and dignity when he betrayed her in one of the worse ways possible, without being a character of a loud mouth, angry black woman. Throughout the book, she showed her anger, but not in this way. However, it should have taken her longer to give him another chance, possibly. But, would this book have dragged on longer? And also, it was getting borderline tiring with the herione's bitterness. However, it was good to see the hero knew he had to just take her bitterness, anger and hurt in order to get her back. It was good to read about his insecurities in getting her back and that The author did not turn his character into a one dimensional arrogant unrepentant jerk that tries to overwhelm her by bedding her. He was smart enough to know that sex did not build a relationship. The author needs an editor to find tune the book. Although this author did bother to describe the black heroine, somewhat, it would have served the book better to expound on her physical attributes way more, like the author did to the white hero.
I usually dont leave less than a 4 rating just out of respect. I am a repeat reader of this author so I am slightly disappointed. Maybe its some of her first writings not sure but i just didnt like Ava and Ryan was so selfish it wasnt funny. Where were the family he was scared to take her home to? Her ex husband had a new family but he was the only father she had known? Where were you? Everything was about Ryan and how famous and rich he was and what he wanted. If you were that sick over it all why didnt you send her monthly payments. I could go on but i wont. Basically i didnt like any adult in this story. Haley was even irritating to me. Mercy was the only likeable one and i had issues with her.
Ryan had to work real hard to make me like him, I absolutely despised him as a deadbeat father, he could make arrangements for child support , I don’t care how much of humble pie you had to eat,… anyway, the way she destroyed that girl was beyond despicable. Ava, kudos to you girl… he had to grovel. Who is Kelsey? I thought the ex girlfriend of a year was Amanda? 🤔 Ryan, was afraid to bring a black girl home, as a freshman!? what happened to the parents? We never met them and heard their opinions and their reaction to a biracial granddaughter!? Still a nice read.
When the story began I did not like Ryan at all. The jock in school preying on the innocent unsuspecting classmate, and then breaking her heart. 6 years later, he's back with a sob story. I was not feeling the old or the new Ryan. He was saved by a little Mercy... I know this was just a fictional tale, but I was irritated by how easily his wrongdoing forgiven— A good edit was needed to repair some of the inconsistencies in the story, with dates and facts. A decent story with a happily ever after ending.
I actually really enjoyed the book, but there were so many errors that it actually took away from the story. The grammatical/spelling errors were bad enough, but mistakes with the wrong name being used for a main character also happened enough to really confuse. I would suggest either reading over your work or finding an editor/proofreader. The story held my interest so it’s particularly upsetting to be pulled out of the narrative by these mistakes.
Beautiful love story about acknowledging mistakes and forgiveness
Just the right amount pain and anger from Ava. And the right amount of back and forth between she and Ryan. Moments in this book made me laugh (love Ava calling him all kinds of names) He deserved it. Ryan realizing and acknowledging his mistakes. Then going to get the love of his life and their daughter, fighting for her, Mercy and their family. Their friends supporting them and Ava finally finding a way to forgive him and open her heart back up to him was so beautiful.
It was a good read. Seven years though, and he wanted her to just jump right back in with both feet. Nah. She should have waited to sleep with him and got the ring and the wedding first. He was an ass to her in college. She was just as young as he was and he left her to take care their child alone. She had to drop out of college while he lived his best life. What a crappy situation for her so he came back with a threat to take her to court. What a dick move on his part and it didn't matter if he was black or white.
The book entertained. In the beginning of the book Ryan was not very likable. The author's character progression of Ryan redeemed him throughout the story. Both Ryan and Ava's family were mentioned but no details. Would have liked to see some in-depth family interactions and more storyline detail. There were editing and grammatical errors. The book was enjoyable. If this is a beginning for this author, improvement will come with more books.
This is my first novel by this author, but it won't be my last. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Hope it's as good as the first. True love never dies it's just kinda hard to know true love when your adult life is just starting. Glad they found their way back to each other and open themselves up to love.it's hard to say what you would do in either of their shoes. But am glad they made it.
This was a good read. I have read other books from this author and all were very good. I liked the fact you understood what Ryan was going through with his decision on the pregnancy. Haley was a true friend too help Ava too see both sides even though you can tell she had relationships drama as well. Hopefully the next book I plan on reading gives me insight on her story and also Ryan two best friends relationship drama as well.
This is a story about second chance after heartbreak. Ava fought to resist but her heart wouldn't let her. It will helpful to have editing and proofreading done because of mixing up characters' names and other things to clean it up. Ryan sabotaged Ava and her heart but came back into her life and their daughter's to reclaim what he had thrown away. It is a good thing that forgiveness heals.
Fairly good storyline. It did have holes. This is a second chance story but the story was never fleshed out. Why mention both sets of parents in the beginning but they were never mentioned again. There are a few grammatical and editing errors. It appears this is a new author. I am sure she will continue to improve.
Ava girl, I applaud your efforts on the hold out but it wasn't meant to be. Ryan gave full court press and was not letting up for anything or anybody. I truly enjoyed this book and even listened to a few country songs. Thank you Ms. Williams for not being Adam and pointing out he was a good man.
If you have not read book #2 and #3 of this series, please do and skip this one. Thankfully I read the other two and got to this one at the end. The author needs to revisit this book and start all over or scrap this one. Not a good example of her work.
This was an okay story. There wasn’t much depth to the characters and I felt has if the author was repeating every sentence over again but in a different way. We get it he has millions of dollars how many times did it need to need to be stated . I also think Ava gave in too easily , Ryan should have been begging for over a year .
This was my first time reading 📚 anything from this author and it was a pleasure. The writer gives us a story of two people who break up over a bad decision and simply being scared. This was a good solid read, but I wanted just a little more interaction between the two main characters, outside of the house . There were just a few steps missing but not much.
This story was ok. There were some wrong names/ names changed and a scene that didn’t make sense do to a prior convo but over it was fine.
I think what Ryan did to Ava in college, young or not, was super shitty. And she forgave him way too fast imo. But it’s hard for me to really be sold on second chance romance, especially when the guy was such a fuckboy
Such a poignant look at heartbreak and healing. This author has a true gift in plumbing the depths of betrayal and reconciliation. It’s such a grown up story, not just over the top fantasy. And, yeah, Ryan is the real deal book boyfriend extraordinaire.
Ryan was a foolish boy who hurt the girl of his dreams Ava. Years have passed & he always knew he messed up. Now he's ready for a second chance to prove he's grown & is man enough to be the man Ava needs. This was a good read. I enjoyed the country tunes listed as chapter headings. Enjoy.😊
I enjoyed this book. This my first time reading this author. I did feel there several chapters that were too wordy and that as the reader I was able to gather the issue between them. It just was reiterated over and over.
This is the first book I read from author and I must say it won’t b the last I’m hoping to check out more books by author. I’m glad Ryan got his mess together even if he messed up so much 7 years ago
5 stars.....kept my attention from the very beginning to the last page
It was an excellent read....I was very intrigued by HER(Ava) making HIM(Ryan) sweat....I was hope for a little more sweating from Ava making Ryan sweat.....overall great read
Ryan left Ava when they were in college, alone and pregnant. Now seven years later he arrives on her door step threaten to take her to court to see his daughter. He only does this to get Ava and his daughter back. Good Read
From the start I was raw with how Ryan did Ava. As he later pursued her, I was skeptical and afraid for her and Mercy. Even now I wonder about his parents and what they will think. Good read!
