My mom got this for my 13th birthday recently, and I really really liked this book. It increased my faith in Jesus and how He uses you in your life to help others. It was really entertaining. I thought it would be boring, but there was a LOT of action going on. Some parts made me smile and laugh. And most of the time warmed my heart. Definitely recommend.

Writing was sophomoric. Definitely targeted for a younger audience. Short and sweet so not a total waste of time.

Kindness goes a long way!

Teachers should have this book on their required reading list. Not everyone has this ethic instilled in them - it’s a good starting place.

The Blessing Effect by Robert K. Pozil is an influential story that teaches the importance of throwing kindness around like confetti and the impact that it has on people’s lives. It shows how much a random act could mean to someone and make their day ten times better. The story reaches out to people of all ages in hopes to inspire readers to make kind descisions that will positively affect someone. The book highlights how important it is to live each day with faith in our minds. The story starts off by introducing the Towers family, who are encouraging to the kids to bless someone each and every day. The main character, Zach, is confident in blessing an old friend one day, and he learns that it literally changed his life, so much that it stopped him from doing something that he would have later regret. Overall, this story is persuading and eye-opening.
From the start of the book, the author makes it very clear that the story is encouraging and inspiring. Zach Towers is living the ideal life of a teenager. He has a girlfriend who is a star volleyball player, and he has a lot of good friends. Zach is told to bless someone everyday by his father, and one day, his father specifically says to him, “Just think, maybe even Joel. You can change his life by reaching out and blessing him” (Pozil 23). Zach is hesitant to even approach his old friend, his enemy. His father’s words play over and over in his head all day. He wonders if he should actually talk to him again, or just ignore his father’s suggestion. Later on, something changes in Zach. He invites Joel over to his house to talk. Joel is quite shocked, since no one ever looks his direction, but Zach feels good and proud that he met his father’s daily, “bless someone today.” Often in our own lives, we get scared to talk to someone who we don’t have a close connection with, but in reality, it is imperative to be kind to everyone.
The following chapters show a glimpse of the kind of views people had on Joel without even truly getting to know him. Joel opens up to Zach about his thoughts and anger and how he wanted to harm him, his girlfriend and a close friend. He explains that if Zach had not approached Joel, then he would have damaged so many lives. Zach fixes Joel’s vision on life and helps him regain himself again. Throughout it all, Zach shows his love and compassion for Joel. “A bit of the heaviness in his heart lifts, like taking away a five-pound bag from a wheelbarrow filled with three dozen five-pound bags” (Pozil 67). This shows the importance that our actions and words hold and how they truly affect people’s lives for the better.
Pozil portrays good morales and words to live by for all readers. He uses relatable examples of daily occurrences to demonstrate how we all could bless someone everyday. Overall, I highly recommended this book. This book is a must-read that teaches readers a positive message that we can all live by. Always remember to throw random acts of kindness around, and you will feel like a whole new person because of all of the lives you have touched.

The Blessing Effect

Great reading for anyone but especially for the young adult reader. Good illustrations of how a single act of kindness can rewrite someone’s future.

I will admit that I'm biased . . . I'm an author who editorially helped Robert K. Pozil with the writing of The Blessing Effect. I was drawn to the project by the strong premise to this novel: In this story, a father named Peter Towers drives his three children to school each morning. As they leave the family minivan, his encouragement remains the same to each of the three children: “Hey, I want you to reach out and bless someone with kindness. Remember, you can change someone’s life today.”

But something happens when Zack, Tyler, and Emma Towers actually act on their dad’s prompting to “reach out and bless someone.” The plot moves quickly, and there are a lot of teachable moments along the way.

The Blessing Effect is an excellent summer reading book for pre-teens and teens as well as their parents. And here's another idea to keep in mind: The Blessing Effect can stimulate great dinner time discussions with your teens as well.

This was an engaging book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The plot is driven by an interesting mix of simple human decisions and dramatic supernatural intervention. The supernatural parts are fun to read, but on their own might seem like a fantasy that has no application to real life. The simple decisions that the characters make along the way, however, invited me to think more about my own approach to life.

The characters’ decisions to make themselves available for God’s purposes in simple ways sometimes lead to amazing miracles, and sometimes lead to seemingly natural outcomes. Even when the results are not clearly miraculous, these simple acts of faithfulness lead to some beautiful results. And even with no immediate results, the characters’ acts of faithfulness are beautiful in their own right because they testify to the character of God. So I find myself encouraged to look for opportunities to make the sorts of simple, faithful decisions that the characters are modeling.

More than ever, we need to be reminded and inspired about the power of kindness. I'm a 57 year old business owner, educator, and have been close friends with Robert for 35+ years. Although written for pre- and early teens, I thoroughly enjoyed The Blessing Effect. I read it in one sitting as it's a fun read. I appreciate Robert's sense of humor but more importantly, his passion for kids to be loved as well as to recognize they can be powerful change agents.
It left me wondering how radically different our world would be if we all took acts of kindness seriously.
I was honestly inspired. The world is a scary place right now and yet I was reminded each of us have more power to effect positive change than we realize, one life at a time.
If you have kids of any age, get this book. The message is especially timely yet timeless.

What if each of us started each day by blessing someone we encountered? That is what Peter and Maggie ask of their children each morning as they head to school. They not only change the recipient's outlook but their own as well.

I honestly only read this because I was gifted it a while ago and the blurb made it sound different than what it was actually like. It was pretty bad and how things were worded made it clear the book is probably targeted to kids

I really enjoyed this story. Such a great message, and beautifully told with enjoyable characters.

The only criticism I have is that some of the details in the story were distracting rather than beneficial (such as naming the brand of peanut butter being used in a snack, or saying that the tortilla chips were triangular shaped with “grains of salt”). If I were editing the text, I would suggest leaving such details out. But other than that, I loved reading this book.

I have read this about 3 times. It is a quick read, and it is fun. It has exciting never want to put down vibes. It... has... spring vibes, in my opinion. It is great, and christian of course. It actually made me want to bless others and just to be kind. It was a good inspiration. If you need it, read this book! Zack is a normal teenaged boy, with baseball as his dream to be, but, God had so much more planned for him.

Good Message

I enjoyed the characters in this story. To be honest, I thought the dialogue on the parental side was a bit quirky and unreal, but it did not ruin the message for me. I.wish we could all see and feel the Angel on our shoulder.

Read 3 times and loved it. It is inspiring and a great Christian book for all ages, young or old! It actually made me want to get out into the world and do an act of kindness to someone. Even though Zack just wanted to be a baseball player, God had so much more in mind...

I only read this because I got it as a gift...this isn't really my type of book. One thing I disliked most about it is how the dialogue is worded. It just seemed very fake and made it clear to me that this novel was more directed toward kids 😅
Had a good message though, and for that I'll give it 2 stars

The book is amazing. You never know the effect a blessing has on someone. It is truly inspiring, and I highly recommend it to girls from middle school to adult. I found that book confusing the first couple chapters, but it made a lot more sense in the end. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!
