CHRIS:

A life in the military never prepared me to fall for a man.

My divorce marked the end of my dating life, and there’s not a woman out there who could change that. Now I’m married to the military, and my late compatriot’s son needs a father figure. There’s no room for romance in that picture.

I never thought I’d have to tackle my feelings for a man, much less the bar owner near base. Instead of slowing down, Dillon and I end up in each other’s arms—and he’s as confused as I am. All I know is being near him feels right.

But Dillon’s been hurt before, and he won’t take me seriously if I can’t show him I’m worth the risk. He’s starting to push me away, but I’m already in too deep to hold back. He’s the only man I’ve ever wanted; now I’ll need to prove I’m worth a chance.

The military taught me discipline, but I can’t keep myself away from Dillon.

DILLON:

Straight men promise only heartbreak.

After my last breakup, I don’t do serious. My bar and the bachelor life are all I need, and I definitely don’t want another military man in my life. I plan to stick to my rules—until Chris walks into my bar for a drink.

I shouldn’t be this wound up over a straight man, especially since he really thinks he’s straight. I can’t risk getting involved with a guy who hasn’t figured himself out—not when I can see how hard and fast I’d fall for Chris.

But staying away is harder than I thought, even with another airman around who also wants Chris’s attention. It’s not just a physical attraction. Chris has the kind of heart I could fall for—but I’m not willing to risk mine.

It hurts to push him away, but it might hurt worse to let him in.

Note to readers: This is a standalone MM romance.

Nope .. these guys were way too annoying - back & forth, random outbursts & emotions and an extremely painful second MC ... hoped for better

Let's see there was confusion, family interference, sexy funny times. I could not put this down till I finished it. I really really enjoyed where this book went & how it got there. *I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book for an honest opinion*

Cute and harmless and not very steamy. A little over the top with the drama and too short to really build a connection with the characters. Would have worked perfectly as a fic about characters you already have a connection to.

Finding each other is a twisty turny path for these guys. I liked the MC's and the writing flowed.  I loved the concept of a bar owner in an air force town because i grew up in one and was a bartender through my college years.

Chris and Dillon had wonderful chemistry their and connection was amazing.  I found Chris's focus and support of his surrogate son a bit destructive and not very functional. Murphy’s behavior really took up too much of the story for me.

I was gifted this book from the author and i freely give my honest opinion and review.

Nope, not for me right now. I don’t normally mind these kind of stories but right now: no.

The plot is very stereotypical and abit cheesy. There are some lines in this that were so cringy. (¬‿¬)

I’m just a few pages in but the MCs are already half way in lust. Chris looks like the typical emotionally stunted “macho” character, and I can tell that this might probably be rife with so much unnecessary angst and misunderstandings later on, I’d rather not continue it.

Dnf 11%.

Just NO!
What i usually like about m/m books when a guy is straight is the mental state, the attraction and the struggles he has to go trough to accept a new reality.... well in this book i find none of that.
Chris is straight but as soon as he saw Dillon he suddenly wasn't anymore, i mean , i thought will be harder for him being touchy and honest about it you know? it was like he was more "gay" than Dillon who already was out of the closet.
They haven't build nothing to be an insta-love kind of story.
Dillon was a character i didn't like at all, he was so full of himself and kind of selfish, i didn't like how he was with Chris..
I felt no chemistry and absolutely no passion for the MC'S, i'm disappointed.

Meh!

Maybe if you’re really into fantasies? There is so much which is either hard to believe or just plain fabrication in this story that it finally drove me away. Things like “I used to shoot but have forgotten how to hold a shotgun” or descriptions of firing a bullet from a shot gun. And yes, I know they make cartridges for shot guns which have a single slug, but those are not typical.

Not a good example of straight-to-gay or gay-for-you, or even MM romance.

I'm a big fan of Jason Collins and I have to say that this is probably my favorite book from him so far! I absolutely loved this story and these characters, Chris and Dillon really got me in the feels! I really could not put this book down, I felt so invested in these two and just had to know what was going to happen.

Dillon is an out and proud owner of a bar near a military base, his past experiences have taught him not to get involved with Airmen, it will just end badly. Chris is still getting over his divorce and his ex-wife. He's also trying to help make sure Murphy, the son of his late friend, stay on the right path. He never expects meeting Dillon will have such a life-changing impact.

These two share an incredibly intense connection, you just feel the chemistry between them! Despite Dillon swearing off Airmen and Chris believing he is 100% straight, these two act on that attraction and what is supposed to be just hooking up quickly turns into more. Chris comes to the realization that Dillon really does mean something to him, regardless that he's a man. His feelings are real. Dillon is a bit more hesitant, afraid of getting hurt again, but the feelings are definitely there. Just when it seems like these two may have it figured out, Murphy and his selfishness may come between them for good.

The journey that Chris and Dillon share gave me all the feels! I laughed and swooned and at times felt broken, and I loved every bit of it. I loved how much these characters grow together, how they absolutely fall head over heels for each other. Even in their rough times, that love is still there and I really felt that. Yes, this is definitely my new favorite from Jason Collins - Chris and Dillon forever!

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Dillon and Chris. Dillon owns a bar next to an air force base and when a fight breaks out one night, he is asked to call Chris for one of the men (Murphy) involved. Chris is a commander and good friends with Murphy, and is recently divorced. When Chris makes Murphy go back to the bar the next day to apologize to Dillon, he notices how good looking Dillon is. Chris was never attracted to men before, but there is something about Dillon that he can't seem to forget. Chris returns to the bar and talks to Dillon, eventually inviting him to go to the shooting range. Dillon is very attracted to Chris but is unsure if Chris is even gay. Dillon was hurt badly in the past and doesn't want to get serious with anyone again, but when Chris asks him to be with him, he says no because Chris is asking for too much. Chris decides he wants to be friends with Dillon and he will take whatever he can get from him. Dillon also notices how Murphy tries to come between them and Chris doesn't seem to think it is a problem. I really enjoyed this story. I liked how Chris was friends with Murphy, but Murphy seemed like a spoiled brat at times. Dillon was scared of getting hurt, but he really cared for Chris. I liked Chris and don't think he was scared to be with Dillon and he accepted that he was attracted to a man better than other men would have. I liked them together, i liked how Chris and Dillon cared for each other. Another great one from Jason.

You're straight, he's gay. So why can't you get him out of your head?

This is a heartfelt love story. I was pulled into the character's lives from the first pages. Although it has a military backdrop, the theme is love. Yes, there is angst, joy, differing opinions, and stubborn men... hot stubborn men.
Dillon meets a lot of guys in his bar just outside the Air Force base. When he meets Chris his resolve to keep his heart chained goes out the window. To bad Chris is straight. But if he's straight, why can't he get Dillon out of his head?
Come. Join these two men as they get to know each other. As they overcome the obstacles put in their way, including a jealous "son". HEA is assured!
Trigger: this story deals with alcohol abuse and self harm. It is done respectfully, and was not offensive to me. I think you will love this book.
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

Sometimes, you have to step out on faith. Dillon is the owner of The Other Base, bar. Kelly is his employee and best friend. He breaks up a fight between an Airman, Murphy who was defending Kelly's honor. Dillon calls Chris to take him home. Chris turns out to be a divorde and a default guardian to Murphy. Chris and Dillon, who is openly gay, feels an immediate attraction to Chris. Chris, who is straight unexpectedly feels an interest and attraction to Dillon. Murphy suffered a personal tragedy and while Chris stepped up and supported him, is not handling his life choices very well. Chris feels obligated to always be available for Murphy. Murphy feels Chris is all he has and will ever have for life. There are complications of communication and boundaries between the guys. Will they be able to find their same pages? Will they solve their boundary problems? Will they all grow up? Nice story. Sensitively, compassionately, romantically written. Mr Collins did an excellent job navigating the difficult emotional complexities. Well done! I received an ARC for this story.

Chris’s attraction to Dillon confuses and aggravates him. I liked that he was brave enough to make the first move. Dillon is attracted from the first glance at Chris and he kept himself in the friend box until Chris’ kiss. Chris is obviously a caring and loyal man. He has taken on being a surrogate parent for his best friend’s son, Murphy. The kid is nineteen and is carrying a lot of baggage after the death of his parents. Chris tries to provide guidance but Murphy’s temper tantrums over Chris and Dillon being together were boggling as they continued unchecked and grew. The tug of war between Dillon and Murphy was aggravating as he came across as three, not nineteen. Dillon impressed me that he truly cared about Murphy but stood up for himself when Chris took Murphy’s side without even checking facts. Seeing them all come out the other side was wonderful.

Yessss

I loved loved this book I finished it in one night I just couldn’t put it down. You meet dillion who is a bad owner who has trust issues after a previous boyfriend ended up and went deployed only to come back with someone else. Then you meet Chris who is divorced and never thought he could ever let anyone back into his life.
The pace of the book moves fast but I mean in a way you have to realize that life waits for no one and sometimes we find always have that much time. When it’s right it’s right.
My heartstrings were being pulled left to right so many times. I loved it.

I usually dont mind cheesy romances or some drama but somehow I couldn't connect with the MCs in this 'novella' - I call it novella cause it surely doesn't feel like a stand alone romance.
I wanted to like this cause the story line surely has promise but the lack of physical descriptions, the exaggerated dramatics, the fact that both characters seem to constantly be acting out opposite to their 'inner thoughts' makes it feel disconnected.
As I said, the plot line has promise but it should be re-written with the main focus being a better character construction as they feel more like angst filled immature teenagers instead of mid-thirties grown ass men...

Another great GFY story, with a dose of angst and uncertainty, a lot of steaminess, and some drama thrown in for good measure. Chris and Dillon have great chemistry, and individually, are both really likeable characters. Chris is kind and loyal and this is shown with the way he looks out for his best friend's son, Murphy. Murphy did frustrate me a lot of the time, especially with the way he treats Dillon and how he is adamantly against a relationship between them. It all works out in the end though and we get a nice, satisfying conclusion that left me smiling.

This is a great story with wonderful characters and a well written storyline that flows smoothly. Chris and Dillon have great chemistry and a strong connection but have a few obstacles in their way. Their biggest obstacle is Murphy then you have Dillon who is afraid of getting into a relationship with another military man, and Chris who has always thought he was perfectly straight!! Not an easy road for their HEA but it is a great journey. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Dillon, who is gay, and Chris, who was most definitely straight, meet and quickly get very serious. I must admit, I love straight to gay stories, love 'em! Poor Chris had a hard time coming to terms with what he was feeling, it was painful to read, poor bloke was totally confused. But the object of his desire couldn't have been a nicer, sweeter, and more gentle a person than Dillon. These two a joy to read, although there were bumps in the road, some more like boulders, plenty of angst. You can always rely on Jason Collins for a great story.

A very touchdown by romance of fighter your own demons to free yourself to let love in & be happy!

Commander Hayes is a military man and a divorce under his belt to prove it. Million a owner of the local by next to the base "the other base". He had his fill at work & home no thank you - no military man at home. Adopted son has made Chris shut everyone out. Unexpected events twirl this story into the fairy tale ending. The Best & The Worst is Life.

The whole book, " Unbroken" was way too short for me! Each of the characters had a way of sharing and showing others both their positive and realistic sides in such a way thar, even those who seemed disgusting were finally able to show their spiritual side to the others in their lives. Chris and Dillon were absolutely remarkable. Jason Collins has always been able to present his characters as real. What a gift.

Another winner from Jason Collins! I love Chris and Dillon's story. This definitely is more angst especially with both MC thinking that Chris is straight. Then of course having Murphy added more to the drama to their relationship. I just love seeing how everything worked out. I absolutely love this story. It's sure an entertaining read!

Good Read more for adult guys

I liked the novel. It’s tone is more adult themed with dealing with emotions and hard truths in an adult manner. I could do with a little less fairytale.
