Carie Juettner is a former teacher and the author of five books in the Spooky America series, including The Ghostly Tales of New England, The Ghostly Tales of Dallas, and The Ghostly Tales of Austin. Her poems and short stories have appeared in publications such as Ember: A Journal of Luminous Things, the Texas Poetry Calendar, and Daily Science Fiction. Carie lives in Richardson, Texas, with her husband and pets. She was born on Halloween, and her favorite color is purple.

It's me, the author! I just received my advance copy of The Ghostly Tales of New England, and I'm so excited! The last time I saw this book, it was a typed manuscript, nothing more. Now it's a real, honest-to-goodness book with an easy-to-read layout, spooky little illustrations, maps (so cool!), and creepy, well-placed photos to enhance the text. It feels a little weird to give five stars to something I wrote, but I'm proud of the stories in this book, and I think Arcadia Publishing did an amazing job turning it into something kids around the country will enjoy. I hope you agree.

If you want to read it all in one sitting, then choose a cozy chair by the fire some Halloween night.
The style is perfect for middle schoolers to digest. Both the syntax and the wide spacing between lines streamline the readers; experience. The stories are enhanced by excellent black-on-white illustrations-- particularly the barren tree with a murder of crows. Kids—I Dare you to convince your dads to drive to even One of these haunted places and check out the presence of these famous ghosts. (Be sure to let the author know if you can document any successful encounters from Beyond… ) The perfect ghoul-side companion for viewers of GHOSTS on TV.

I bought this book so I could find spooky places in New England to stay or visit, and it delivered! It says on the front, "Adapted from A Guide To Haunted New England" and indeed, it did feel like a sampler from a larger book. Anyway, the creepiest account was The Mad Doctor of Mount Moosilauke, and the saddest Reverend Joseph "Handkerchief" Moody. And I've been to Newport RI and never knew about those locations, so I'm definitely headed back.

A nice little collection of ghost stories, not too spooky- but spooky enough. Wether you believe in the paranormal or don't it is still a nice collection of New England myths & legends of ghosts. Eventually I'll try to read the whole series. I bought this on a whim for $2.98 at Super Buys, and wasn't disappointed.
