When a young teacher connects with the principal of his school, work and ex issues, the possibility of happiness, and a chocolate Labrador called Penny means they have a lot to think over.
Newly appointed teacher, Jasper Taylor, can't believe his luck. After a year, he's found a job with the possibility of a permanent contract, which finally allows him to put his teaching degree to good use. After meeting the silver-haired principal of the school, Jasper discovers his new position offers an additional temptation. He knows he should retreat, but who said avoiding attraction was easy, especially when the man he's crushing on seems too good to be true?
Well-respected and focused on his career, Austin Harrison is at the top of his game. He's turned a struggling school around, has finally put up boundaries with his demanding ex, and may just have secured full custody of his chocolate Lab, Penny. The appointment of the new English teacher, Jasper, threatens to unsettle the stability he's been working towards. Austin's attraction is immediate, heady, and oh so complicated. But does complicated mean he has to walk away?

I know, I know. I can’t believe i’m DNF’ing a book either. This book started quite lovely and it was so low angst and everyone communicated perfect. But then there was massive ex drama and I just didn’t want to deal with that. An ex coming back to cause drama is one of my most hated trope and I don’t have the patience for it when it shows up in a book.
Brief summary Austin is 40 years old and the principal of an high school. He employs a new English teacher, Jasper, who’s 24 years old. They fall in love.
I loved the small town vibes, I loved the building attraction, I loved how they both didn’t deny their feelings and knew that they were into the other, I really liked they communication (at first), they would talk about everything, I liked how wholesome the book was, I loved the sweet gestures they did for the other, I loved their building connection, how everything was easy and effortless.
This could have been the low angst book of my dreams but I just didn’t enjoy the drama related to Austin’s ex trying to fuck up their life.
If drama with an ex doesn’t bother you, I definitely recommend this one, it’s so so sweet and very swoony.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
Here in Book 4 Davis the Cafe Owner, his daughter Libby and Scott, the Veterinary Practice owner, eco e one happy family. All the fabulous important characters from previous books make an appearance for the wedding which was hosted by Tad and Jason the Bar Owners. Also in attendance are Carter and Tanner, plus Carter’s parents,Marcy and Jack. Plus Ian, the Male Nurse, who is Jasper’s best friend.
This story is 24 year old Jasper’s the part time barista in Davis’s Coffee Shop. He is waiting for a Teaching post to become available locally so that he can keep an eye on his recently widowed mother.
At last he gets a chance to interview for a temporary teaching job at the local High School. When he meets the School Principal 40 year old Austin at the interview both men felt the sparks between them.
With weeks they were dating but Austin’s ex boyfriend, Rupert (aka Rude Duck) tries to cause trouble for them at the School. However, Billy, an ex cop with a mysterious past, who now works as Austin’s housekeeper, soon sorts Rupert out.
Weeks later a surprise early morning intruder turns out to be Frankie, Austin’s younger wayward, world travelling, brother.
Frankie’s unexpected appearance puts Austin and Jasper’s relationship and future plans in a spin.
<^><^><^><^><^> So good catching up on all the couples from Kirkby and seeing the found families enjoying the quiet life. Rupert was a POS, like a contagious illness that just won’t go away. I thought Frankie’s arrival might be the start of another new Kirkby romance, but it brought a whole different scenario to Austin’s home.
Looking forward to reading Billy and Ian’s, separate stories in the following three books.
All of the books so far in the True-Blue series have been such enjoyable cozy reads that made me want to visit a happy place like Kirkby.
If you want a sweet romantic story with low angst, this is the one for you. It’s full of a lab named Penny, crazy friends, hope after loss, finding love again, and families you love but drive you nuts. Jasper loved working at the Split Bean that his friend Davis owns, but it’s not a teaching job. He misses being in a classroom and desperately wants back in one. But after all he’s done to try to get one, nothing seems to be open. Until one day, he gets a phone call saying he’s needed to fill in a position for the rest of the semester. And Jasper is ecstatic. Especially when he meets the principal, who’s causing him to have a hard time focusing. And Austin is having just as hard of a time. But after being burned by his ex and technically being Jasper’s boss, he knows he has to put the brakes on those feelings. But something about Jasper keeps calling to him and he can’t help but wanting to be around the man. They start casually dating, and someone is already trying to cause trouble. When they find out who, because he keeps showing up, Austin is worried that his ex will make Jasper run away, and he has to do everything he can to make it right. He does, but before you know it, family has now crashed into their world and crashed into a hospital as well. Thankfully, things between them are progressing well and they are falling in love, or this might be a walking point too. Because along with Austin’s brother’s crash, comes a little surprise. And Austin is worried if this is going to be the thing to push Jasper to the edge and him leave. Jasper and Austin really are the cutest couple. Jasper brings new life to Austin, and everyone is commenting on how much happier he seems. And for Jasper, Austin has someone that he knows he can count on, depend on, and it helps he’s really hot. They have an intimacy to them, a quiet friendship that burns bright with so much more. There are many times when Jasper could have ran, and who would have blamed him, but Jasper knows as anyone else, life sometimes throws you a lot of curveballs. And you just have to roll with them. It doesn’t mean it’s easy, or that there doesn’t need to be a LOT of communication going on, but if it’s worth having, it’s worth the work. And I friggin love Billy. I think he’s my hero. I hope somewhere along the line he finds him someone to settle with, but I love seeing him around with Austin and Jasper. There’s a lot of good characters in these stories. Ones that just make you all gooey and happy. But there are a few bad apples as well, and every story I guess needs them lol. Even though you want to smack them. But it’s life. Even in a book. It’s a good story.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Jasper finally lands a teaching job and is instantly attracted to Austin, the school principal. We get to be with Jasper and Austin as they date, become closer and fall in love. We get to just being with them as their lives their lives through ups and downs. The simple things like going on dates, meeting each other's family and friends and seeing them take care of each other made this story a joy to read. Things are completely angst free with Austin's annoy ex and Jasper worried about what he will do for employment when his contract runs out at the end of the school year.
Thinking it Over is a simple story of two men falling in love. It was a beautiful romance. This is a series that is getting better with every book.

This book is the third installment of the series, you could read it as a stand-alone but reading all the books in the series would make it more enjoyable. Jasper and Austin's relationship is so relatable. They go through obstacles just like anyone would. Like every book in this serious it's low on the angst and high on the sweetness. Easy summer day by the pool read.
I just love a great May/December romance and that’s what Thinking It Over by Becca Seymour is. There is something about the bond between a confident younger adult and his distinguished older guy. If you follow Becca Seymour’s True-Blue series, you will recognize Jasper from his Barista days at the Split Bean but, if not, no worries, Thinking It Over is enjoyable on its own.
Twenty-four-year-old Jasper Taylor gave up his budding teaching career to go home and look after his mother. He is grateful that Davis, the owner of Split Bean, took a chance on an unemployed teacher with no coffee shop experience. Jasper enjoys his Barista job but longs to return to the classroom. When Crescent High calls with the opportunity for a temporary backfill position with the potential of becoming permanent, Jasper jumps at the chance.
“OMG, the sexy principle interviewing me with the streaks of silver in his sideburns, he is absolutely gorgeous,” Jasper thinks.
Austin Harrison is tired; he is feeling every one of his forty years. He needs to fill the gap created by Jim’s long-term sick leave, answer the school board’s questions, and get his annoying ex, Rupert off his back. The resume for Jasper Taylor is perfect, the best of those on file. He just hopes the guy didn’t oversell himself.
“OMG, the eager young man that shows up is so young. I wonder if I was ever that young and eager,” Austin ponders.
These two are adorable, stealing glances, making excuses to see each other and stewing in their secret desire for each other. Even with the employer/employee aspect between them, it doesn’t take long for them to begin hanging out, taking walks with Penny (Austin’s black Lab), and getting to know one another.
‘Thinking It Over’ is the best kind of love story, especially when you are in the mood for a romance that is light and easy, but you want it real.
Like all relationships, this one has angst, but not of Jasper or Austin’s doing. Sure, they feel the pressure to remain professional and maintain their distance on school grounds, but they knew it going into their time together. It is outside forces that create the stress and tension for Austin and Jasper. Who or what is behind the odd things taking place without rational explanation? Rupert aka “Rude Dick” just won’t let go of Austin. Frankie (Jasper’s brother) is acting strange and ends up seriously injured. And, Three-year-old Tyler (Jasper’s son) needs a guardian. The pressure is enough to break any man.
Jasper’s maturity combines with Austin’s experience to allow these two lovebirds to successfully navigate what life throws at them. It only makes their journey sweeter, as they comfort and protect each and provide the strength to carry on. Theirs is a destiny that was meant to be. Austin’s time with Rude Dick was filling the gap for Jasper to enter his life. When Jasper’s mother needed assistance, that was his path to follow. Watching their journey unfold is a captivating experience to behold.
Thinking It Over is the best kind of love story, especially when you are in the mood for a romance that is light and easy, but you want it real. Jasper and Austin could have just met, hooked-up, and fallen in love. But here they navigate some intense weather, providing support for each other as they slowly realize what they have found.
I’m already in love with this series, and enjoyed this latest sweet romance story. I loved Austin and Jasper and thought they fit very well together. Their attraction was obvious as was their growing feelings for each other. I liked how they also spend time getting to know each other, and how their actions show their mutual love way before they speak the words.
Penny steals every scene she’s in.
I also liked the supporting cast, especially Billy and Ian. Austin’s ex is a total piece of work, and I loved Austin’s final words to him as he continuously tries to cause trouble. I loved seeing characters from previous books from the series, and seeing those characters through Austin’s eyes. Carter’s mother always makes me happy as she has absolutely no filters whatsoever. Barb totally rocks.
I liked that Austin and Jasper have the conversation about their professional/private lives very early on, as that was one I thought needed to happen. I thought the author did a great job in balancing their friendship/romance with everything else going on in their lives. Although this story is about their romance, it’s very much about family and friendship too, and I liked how Jasper’s friendship with Ian still played a good sized role.
The HEA was perfect for these guys, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of them in future books.
A light, attraction-at-first-sight romance between younger high school teacher/barista Jasper & older high school principal Austin. An interesting enough premise; sweet and sexy storytelling. Although, there are intense parts of this story that seemed underdeveloped: the Rupert character and the whole Frankie scenario including the accident. There are questions left unanswered. I also would like a romance story for Ian. Overall, a likable if not a bit simplistic read. Rating: 3 1/2⭐️⭐️⭐️
3.5 stars - I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
This is a sweet story about the romance that develops between a young teacher and his principal. It’s a gentle story about two men and the small towns they live and work in.
Jasper and Austin are both very likeable characters. Where Austin is an established principal, Jasper is attempting to start his career. I liked both men, I enjoyed their lives - but without any real conflict, this story moves very slowly. I like realistic slice of life romances. I hate conflated dramas and miscommunication. But honestly? All stories need a central conflict and I’m not sure this book has one. The romance happens easily and naturally. No one is in the closet. There’s a little drama with Austin’s ex and with his brother, there’s some frustration with Jasper’s job search - but nothing serious enough to build a book around.
The result is a nice story about the very ordinary lives of two very nice men. It’s nice but very slow and not particularly entertaining. This is the third book in the series but it’s the first one I’ve read. I feel like it stands alone easily. I like the sense of community within Jasper’s friendship group and the previous two couples also seem very nice. This is an easy, relaxing read but it probably isn’t a story I’ll remember for long.
What a great read! This novel is romance at its best, but there is so much more to it. With it, too, is a fantastic mystery storyline. And that made the romance so much more interesting, the kind of romance that I adore.
The story of Austin and Jasper is a beautiful one. What I loved most about it was the fact that the obstacles were external, rather than between them. And the issues they face are relatable, which allows the reader to love them even more. The entire cast of characters is wonderful, even the ones you just have to hate! Loved it!
If you love romance with some meat to the story, Thinking It Over is a great read!
Loved loved loved this story!!!! Such a beautifully written love story, with an amazing ending!! Ty so much to the author!!! Look forward to reading more!!!
Jasper and Austin take your heart from the first page on. They are so darn sweet and kind. Jasper gives off more positivity and just is so adorable. Always pleasant and sweet. Always thinking only good thoughts and very honest and open.
Austin is open and honest as well but his positivity has taken a hit since his ex. And his ex is a piece of work. Austin is older than Jasper but doesn’t care. He is kind and sweet. Gentle and real. These two from the beginning are just too adorable and perfect for one another. They help each other through feelings of vulnerability and support one another no matter what. And they are always open with each other on how they are feeling and what is going on in their minds. They don’t allow the other to feel less or are intuitive as to how the other is feeling and assure each other of where they are in each other’s lives.
The plotline of Frankie is great and I do hope we see a story of him and also of Ian. Frankie adds a new element tot he story because he shows us how family bands together and how when you love someone as Jasper does Austin, you are there for them even from afar when they need your support and love. And seeing these two work through so many things together is refreshing. There isn’t angst or drama but open and honest communication and telling each other how they are feeling even when they are feeling scared and vulnerable and that is refreshing. I was a little sad at the end because Jasper’s job situation is really up in the air and I so wanted him to be settled in that respect. But the love and support that you feel from Austin and Jasper for each other has you smile and just know that all will turn out as it is meant to. They also have a great circle of friends and family that are happy for them and there for them no matter what.
From the beginning to the end you can feel their love and support for each other as they journey to being a forever couple and their story to that has you smile and just enjoy the ride to the end.
This light and sweet story was refreshing. Literally little to no angst, lovers miscommunications or nonacceptance. It was a perfect story for me to melt into after reading a thriller with a dark plot. If felt as these two could be your co-workers or neighbors. They were just two guys that felt an interest in each other and developed a strong bond. Newly appointed teacher Jasper is beyond thrilled to finally land a temporary teaching job that might turn into a permanent appointment in the small town he grew up in. After a family tragedy, Jasper moved in with his mom to give her the emotional support she needed. He is basically a really decent man. The school’s principal, Austin, is also a kind and caring person that has recently “escaped” from a nasty and self-centered boyfriend. I thought the ex was a little over the top but thankfully he wasn’t present enough to really get under my skin. Austin is 15 years older than Jasper but not once did I feel that age gap. So, when the principal is really wanting to date the new teacher it’s just that simple. No silly or nonsensical work rules or contracts to prevent this. This info is shared early on in the book so you know the men are free to forge an honest relationship with obvious caution as they are boss and employee. It was so pleasant to see the two engage in a healthy and normal dating experience. Life wasn’t without some bumps in the road as there is an unsettling event that added to the realism. An ideal beach read or a snuggle under the covers kind of story that was tender and had such an authentic feel. I do recommend this positive story that I hope you try. Happy Reading! ***Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn’t a requirement.***
What a breath of fresh air, but I totally did this backwards. This is book four in the series, and I started the series with this book. That said, it could be read as a standalone. Partway through the book, I began to realize there may be more to the side characters than what I’m getting in this book, and there is. It’s all in book one through three. Haha. Reading them in order would probably enhance your experience, but it isn’t necessary. Although...there is a wedding our main characters attend...so potential spoilers. You can bet I am going to back up and start over from the top!
Speaking of tops; according to a lady named Marcy, she’s overheard that Jasper likes to! This book was full of little gems, but that one is a classic. All I know is if I were to be around this group, I want Marcy for a wingman.
Jasper and Austin’s story is so sweet, that I may have a permanent grin on my face. Becca Seymour promised a feel-good book, and she delivered. The writing was top-notch, in my opinion, and I was quickly sucked into the story. I was kind of annoyed when life got in the way, but I persevered and was able to finish the book in one day. It’s one of those that you aren’t going to be able to put down easily.
I’m hoping this series at least has one more book in it. I would love to see Ian have his happy ever after. Frankie, too, perhaps. I’d wager...nah. Becca Seymour knows best for these gentlemen. I’m confident, if there were to be a book 5, she will make it perfect, and I’ll love it.

I was hoping to be able to read the novella before jumping into this as that’s where we’re introduced to Jasper alas, I did not get a chance to before starting this one. Needless to say, you don’t need to read that book to read this one and I think this could be read as a standalone although I really liked book two, so I recommend it.
I loved this book, petty ex-boyfriend of Austin’s notwithstanding. There is a little bit of drama and a little bit of angst, but these guys communicate well, and I really like them together. They have an immediate attraction and chemistry, but their relationship isn’t rushed and develops organically. They fit together seamlessly and work through whatever life throws at them together. This is just a sweet, well-developed romance story that I needed right now.
There are a couple of supporting cast members that I hope we see again – namely Ian and Billy although not necessarily together. And I really would love to check in with these guys again with a novella similar to what Scott and Davis got (that I now need to go back and read 😊).
This was a sweet read with a focus on the developing relationship between Austin and Jasper, with low levels of drama.
Jasper had put his career on hold to look after his mother following the death of his father. When a teaching opportunity comes up at the school where Austin is Principal, it opens more than a step towards getting his career started. It kick starts his heart as he is drawn to the passionate and dedicated Principal.
Whilst Ausin is his boss, there is nothing seedy about their developing relationship and they keep things platonic at work. There is also an age difference but Jasper is so much wiser than his years that this doesn't matter either. They keep their relationship low key but the chemistry is off the charts. I loved getting to know these two and witnessing their developing relationship with minimum distractions. This book totally suited these twol.
4.5 stars. Okay, this book hooked me in and wouldn’t let go until I’d finished it. It kept me engaged, is well crafted and flowed along so nicely I kept turning the pages until late in the night There’s two wonderful main characters, Austin and Jasper who work together at the local high school. They actually communicate honestly with each other in a mature way so there’s no angst due to miscommunication, etc. Their attraction to each other is immediate but not acted on straight away but the heat level rises when they do! Also included in the cast of side characters is Penny, the dog who just shines. She is so much better behaved than Austin’s crappy ex! The characters from the previous books also makes appearances but this can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend this book - it’s the perfect way to fill some time with a sweet, low angst, wonderful romance.
This is the third book in the series and they are better read in order. This book is M/M so if that isn’t your thing than you will probably skip this book. Jasper is a new teacher. He quickly connects with the principle, Austin. Both aren’t sure if this is something, they should act on at first. But the attraction is hard to fight and they give it a go. Austin has an ex that is having a hard time letting go. Austin’s ex tries to make trouble not other for Austin but for the both of them. This book has a bit of angst, and suspense, and a lot of romance. I love this series and was excited to read this book. Austin and Jasper are great characters. The characters from previous books make an appearance which I always like. This book was a sweet romance. I can’t say enough about it. I can’t wait for the next book. Congrats on another great book Becca.
I was lucky enough to win an ARC copy of this but my opinions are only swayed by cupcakes and I received no cupcakes.
I loved this. I will fully admit to wanting to know more about Billy, and I found that distracting but that was a me issue. I just REALLY want to know more about the hot ex-cop.
Anyway.
I loved Jasper and Austin. Loved their romance. I hated the creepy, asshole of an ex Rupert. This was a fun story with a few moments of light angst and plenty of emotions.
It's a great addition to the True Blue series. Definitely recommend.
This my fourth Seymour book and, as usual, I fell in love with the characters. Ms. Seymour has a knack for writing truly lovable characters and Austin and Jasper are no exception. This a sweet and spicy romance with great side characters (Billy is very promising, wink wink) and, for those of us who have read the previous books in the series, cameos by characters we have come to love. Breezy read (I'm a terrible slow poke when it comes to reading and I read this one pretty quickly) with all the feels. Even though this is part of a series, you can read it as a standalone.
I really liked this story with its sweet characters and slow-burn romance. While attraction was instant, they didn't jump into it feet first and hope for the best. They got to know one another, explored and talked. I really do love open communication stories where characters actually talk to one another. While there was still doubt, some low angst and insecurities, it wasn't all over the top drama and ridiculous misunderstandings. They talked it out and did what felt like the right thing to do without being all over the top dramatic about it.
I liked both main characters. They were both sweet and considerate, very passionate about their jobs and understanding. They were really a perfect match and made each other so happy! They were very in tune so to say and it was marvelous to watch them fall in love and build something so stable. While they had pretty strong and mature characters right from the beginning, there was still some more growth as a couple, which was a nice surprise. We all have our struggles no matter how confident we are, so watching them overcome them and thrive was relatable and inspiring. There was just enough drama to keep the story going, but not so much as to turn ridiculous, so that is definitely another plus. I also liked that while there were characters from previous book, there were no real spoilers or recap about previous books that would take away the spotlight from this one. It is always a possibility with reoccurring characters, but I am happy to say it was not the case here and I appreciate it.
There was really a lot I liked about this book and I will definitely check out the rest of the series, because these characters are just too cute to miss out on :)
**I was provided an ARC of this book from the GRR for an honest review**
Jasper let's to find his man in this book and it is just as sweet as the rest!
While the books so far have taken place within known people from their friend group and town, Jasper hasn't found the person for him there. He also hasn't found a job in his field and has been working at the cafe. When a job comes up to fill in for a year at a local school he jumps at the chance. The interview also introduced him to the principal, Austin, who intrigues him both professionally and personally. It turns out the same goes for Austin.
Austin is a little gun shy of relationships after his last failed long term one, but something about Jasper just seems to make him want to try again. The two have a bit to figure out, with the whole working together and principal/teacher thing, but none of it is against the rules. Making sure to keep work life and personal life separate they manage to figure out how they could have a relationship. It was great to see things done along avenues where they didn't have to sneak around or constantly worry about their jobs, instead the figuring was just about proper personal boundaries and ensuring that they were a good fit before becoming public.
There is some drama with an old ex that is really well done, especially when the full group of friends gets involved. While Austin may not have known the men from Kirkby originally, getting involved with Jasper introduces him to them, and soon has him brought into the group. They work great to give social supports to the two men as they figure things out and also hope for a steady and happy life together. The true test to the relationship comes in the form of family and problems happening within, but with help from friends and love and belief in that family it shows how things can work out even when it seems they have gone wrong.
Another excellent book about the men of Kirkby and the sweet relationships they have!
I was given a free arc copy from the author and the GRR arc team for review.
This was such a great, low angst, low heat, sweet story with just a bit of drama. It drew me in from the very start and I couldn't put it down til I finished it. The 2 MC were both well developed and loveable and had great chemistry. The plot is interesting and consistent the entire time. There wasn't any draggy moments. It was well written with great world building. I enjoyed the side characters. I have not read the previous books. So this can definitely be read as a standalone but after this I definitely want to go back and read the other books. They definitely caught my interest. I would absolutely recommend this book and though this was my first time reading this author I can't wait to read more by them. My only complaint would be that unfortunately there are some fade to black/off page moments.
Jasper was working as a teacher when his dad died and his mom fell into deep depression so he quit his job and moved back home to help her. After a year of struggling to find a teaching position he finally gets one working for Austin.
Austin is the high school principal. He works long hours and fills his remaining time with his sweet Pup Penny whom up til now he has had to share with his horrible ex who was just using him for money and cheated on him. In addition he is swamped at work and needs to hire a new English teacher. He gets more than expected when he is instantly attracted to Jasper and the feeling is mutual but of course dating an employee means keeping things on the DL in a gossipy small town.
