Three years after the Summer of Chaos, Sara Dunstan, adoptive mother of Steel Brightblade, hears rumors that the Knights of Takhisis are regathering in the evil city of Neraka. Although still branded a renegade by the Dark Knights, she travels to Neraka with the blue dragon, Cobalt, to learn the truth. There she discovers the knights are not only rebuilding under the leadership of General Mirielle Abrena, but they have imminent plans to return to war.
Frustrated and seeking answers, Sara jounreys to the Tomb of the Last Heroes in Solace. At the tomb, she receives an answer she never expected, which inspires a new order that could help the people of Ansalon to survive the dark days ahead.
Mary H. Herbert is the author of the best-selling Dark Horse series.
The narrator was almost perfect... Except for her strange pronunciations.
Similarly, this was a wonderful story. My only complaint is that at the end, we see that blue dragons are susceptible to their own breath weapons, which goes against established facts of the world.
No other complaints, though. Fantastic book. I definitely recommend it to all dragonlance readers.
Maybe I find Mary Herbert an uncompelling storyteller since I didn't really enjoy Clandestine Circle (and to my disappointment, will probably not read the Linsha trilogy), but Sara Dunstan's character is unconvincing and thin. She's supposed to be in her 50s but emotionally reacts like a 20 year old. If she's in her middle age, and allegedly trained every day/week with swordplay while she was in hiding in Connersby, AND served as a midwife and healer in the village, surely... SURELY she'd have built some character and stoicism. No, I'm not referring to her upright sense of honour and duty; that is well established. But the frequent references to her feeling "terror" and "shock" are just... eye-rolling, young adult cringe.
On top of this, I've never been satisfied with Dragonlance dragons. They have about as much grandeur and size as a canine, and they pretty much act like big dogs and get treated as such. Sara even scratches Cobalt's muzzle. Muzzle? Really? You mean the muzzle of a mythical, building-sized fantastical aerial creature that has captured our collective imagination and awe over several millenia through several cultures? Way to go diminishing DRAGONS.
This book is part of the Dragonlance universe. This takes place after the Chaos War and tells they story of Steel's mother, Sara Dunstan and the origins of the Legion of Steel.
This book grew on me as I read it. Going into it I didn't have any feelings toward the main character. But I liked how the author portrayed her honor when she was surrounded by characters that did not adhere to honor. It has all the elements one is looking for in fantasy with knights, dragons, and battle scenes. It was a nice story and I enjoyed the idea of the Legion of Steel. This story never grabbed me totally though and I believe the reason for this is that I never totally connected with any of characters. I liked the characters but there was never that one memorable character.
This is a middle of the road Dragonlance novel. There are better ones out there and worse ones out there also.
This is another tale about one of the siblings of our heroes. This time it's the son of Sturm and Kitiara. This book follows a couple of years after the Chaos War and at this moment it lead to something that made me walk away from Dragonlance.
If you are like me and you enjoy finding out what happens next to your favorite characters, this is a tale like that the children of the heroes of the lance. This is the story of Kitara's son, Steel.
Excelente.. me gusto mucho este libro.. muy buena historia. No se si han desarrollado mucho mas la historia de los caballeros de acero.. seria muy interesante
