BINGE READ. KEEP THE LIGHTS ON.  LOCK YOUR DOORS.

A mutating plague has killed two thirds of the world's population. Society has collapsed.  And Mike Crenshaw is adrift.

From the world of The Traveler Series comes a new cast of characters, new obstacles, and the same devastating, world-altering virus which plunges society into the depth of a dystopian hell.

ADRIFT begins six months after The Scourge takes hold. And while the spread of the disease is no longer and immediate threat, those who survived are left in a world without infrastructure, without laws, and without protection.  They must fend for themselves in a Darwinian landscape fraught with danger.

At the same time, a government lab is working to harness The Scourge, to make it into something the military can control and unleash upon its enemies.

It's a nightmarish addition to a story that will keep you up at night with the lights on and the doors locked.

Wow, just wow! One exciting moment after another. Some real evil coming out in some of the key players. There are also some truly sad moments too. I am eager to read the next one for sure. Happy ☺reading 📚!

Enjoyed it

I like the way Mr. Abrahams writes. His work flows along nicely and he tells a good story. I am interested to see where the series goes.

So, the survivors come back on land and go straight back to their house that is STILL fully stocked like they left it? The generator starts right up, and though the world has gone to shit, they fall back into "normal" living as if nothing happened? No guards, or lookouts to deter looters? No dead bodies in the streets, disease, flies, piles of burnt bodies? They've been at sea 5 months!!! How can they come back to "normalcy"?? And who are these officials that want to take over Texas? Ugh, I just wish the author elaborated more on the scourge and the aftermath of the dead. Oh well. This is more of a SHTF Bug Out series. Not interested in the third book.

Stopped reading the Series

I liked the 1st installment. It did not resort to gratuitous language, violence or sex. I did think the exacting detail of even the simplest physical activity or object was annoying, but I did like the Mike Crenshaw character. This installment, however, Book 2, I put down as soon as I got to Rufus Buck. From his name (a reference to a 19th Century half-Black, half-Cherokee terrorist/gang founder), to his keloid, to his disdain for government--the cliches used to create him are insulting.

Same as all the rest

When you read a lot of this genre you realize there is a formula that the authors follow. I'm sure part of the reason for that is there are only so many ways to destroy the world yet leave some people behind to write about. A plague is unfortunately popular and, on the bright side, at least this one didn't turn the survivors into zombies. Yet, by now (*could maybe be a spoiler) I've read countless tales of survivors fighting their way across Florida - why so many in Florida?? I suppose it adds a water element. And speaking of water, I thought from the description, name, and cover this book would be set on the water. It was one reason I decided to go on with the series - post-apocalypse from a boat was novel. Alas, our heroes barely stay on the boat and then they are back on dry land fighting the same old.bad guys who show up in all these books. There is a parallel story (**spoilers) about an Army officer and a CDC bureaucrat trying to weaponize the plague and take over Texas. I always hate when evil bureaucrats or lone soldiers show up to take over the world. That's usually when the plot gets wacky as is the case with Adrift. Having spent my life in government I've worked for plenty of evil bureaucrats, most of whom couldn't plot their way out of a cardboard box. They truly do "peter out" under the "Peter Principal" one level above where they become completely incompetent. It requires too much suspension of disbelief for one of these bureaucrats to plot to take over the remaining world and I can assure you no lone Army officer could do it. In summary, at the price point of these books I can't see going any further - there simply isn't anything new to make it worthwhile.

Mike Crenshaw and his new friends have been adrift at sea just off the coast of Florida for almost six months. Their time has been fraught with would-be pirates. They believe that now is the time for them to come ashore and see what has become of civilization. Little do they know that the government is conspiring to weaponize the Scourge.

Abrahams’ second novel in The Scourge series, Adrift shows how Mike and his friends grow in this new dystopian world. It’s either adapt or die. Death comes more often than not. Trust is hard to come by. Friendship bonds are tested, and romantic relationships grow.

Power struggles from within the government will expand outside their current boundaries. Control is the ultimate goal.

5 out of 5 stars.

Adrift. Tom Abrahams

Book two in this series. A deadly scourge, a type of virus has decimated America. Chaos reigns. A group of survivors aboard a yacht off the coast of Florida set sail for Cocoa beach where the yachts owner has a house on the water. Their story of survival unfolds when they cross paths with an unsavory bunch of ex cons, losers who are willing to kill to satisfy their needs. Extremely fast paced loaded with action, a story of survival. My highest recommendation!!

Loving the book

I read book one then halfway +/- through this book I hear someone knocking on my head. Hello? This is the 'prequel' to The Travelers Series! I feel like a village idiot. Why didn't I see it. How exciting. We now get to see how the Scourge began.

Captain Marcus Battle. It was nice to see him in another series.....his personality is a little more compassionate.

A story of a virus that is killing 2/3 of the people infected. There's a dastardly plot by the government to use the virus as a weapon. Usual bad guys and good guys although the unlikely hero is Mike. Mike starts out as an ordinary nice guy who learns and grows through his experiences. I think the author did a good job with character growth. Altogether an interesting story to read and I will look forward to book 3.

Scary

Post 9/11, I looked out the window at work to where the American flag flew above the one of the state of Texas. I thought, if the U.S. should ever fall, we'll just run up the Lone Star and keep on fighting. So the story line about my state rang true to me. Now in the midst of the Pandemic, I also relate to the Scourge; although I hope there is no-one crazy enough to weaponize this virus. Read at your own risk; it may keep you up at night.

This book fills in a lot of the information about the Scourge from its starting point, much of which I could only surmise from the original Traveler series. I must go back and re-read those books after I finish this series. So much nefarious plotting is behind all of this. I really like these new characters, especially Mike and Brice and look forward to book 3.

Weak

After reading the first book in this series I had high hopes for the sequel but like a lot of these "series" books ,it was not to be. The second book reads like a different author wrote it. That also happens a lot with these series. I think the authors just get lazy. Oh well .

As the Scourge continues to change the world, the survivors react in different ways. Mike and his team return back to land from sea, to find there relative peaceful existence transformed. At the same time the remaining government and military plot to take advantage, which back fills the plot that concludes in the traveller series.

A fun read with well written characters. Not as bogged down in details as the first book which helps speed us through the story and enjoy it more. It doesn't follow the same old apocalypse tropes, either. A good, enjoyable story.

To Yacht or Not To Yacht

After several months at sea the group of survivors goes back on land at the Miller's house. Fighting pirates trying to take their food boat and lives now is occurring on land.

This book was a really good read.
Edge of your seat parts. This book drew me in. Extremely hard to stop reading it and eating just got in the way. Thank you very much for a truly amazing moment by moment desire to find out exactly what has to the great characters as it unfolds.

reality of what I expected.

Enjoyed and certainly worth a read. Maybe it is because of my she, but at times had a hard time following all four different plots and groups of characters.
But certainly and unfortunately what zi would vision our country after a major catastrophe.

To be honest, I couldn’t get past the first page of chapter 17. “Gwendolyn” was obnoxious, pretentious, full of hubris and grating in book 1, and remains so. As do many other characters. I was excited for this series, but book one was a struggle and book 2 is proving the same. I have to sadly pass.

The plot thickens…

Book Two picks up six months after the events in Book One. The survivors continue to struggle with ongoing adverse situations. Evil scientists contrive to achieve vile ends through their manipulation of the virus.

This book really didn’t impress me very much. The first part of this series was really good but this one was slow, nothing really happened, a typical in-between-book. Doubt I will read part 3 after this.

I jumped right into this one after I finished the first in the series. It's 6 months into the Scourge, and we meet some new characters. I wasn't as into this book as I was the first, but I will continue the series (after I read something else first).

The first book was great. This book introduced new characters that were horrible and the book got a bit gory and disturbing. Not sure why the story just didn’t stick with Mike Crenshaw. Not going to read the third book, just don’t care anymore.

Too much

Evil scientists, evil military, typical bad guys, now a femme fatale taking over the gang. On the other hand I do like how the hero has developed. But no more for me.

Good story

Well written and plotted. The characters are interesting and well developed. Not everyone lives nor is everyone a hero. Believable actions by the characters.
