About the author

Janusz Korczak was a Polish-Jewish children's author, pediatrician, and child pedagogue, also known under the pseudonym "Stary Doktor".
He was born Henryk Goldszmit in Warsaw on July 22, 1878. During his youth, he played with children who were poor and lived in bad neighborhoods; his passion for helping disadvantaged youth continued into his adulthood. He studied medicine and also had a promising career in literature. When he gave up his career in literature and medicine, he changed his name to Janusz Korczak, a pseudonym derived from a 19th century novel, Janasz Korczak and the pretty Swordsweeperlady.
In 1912, Korczak established a Jewish orphanage, Dom Sierot, in a building which he designed to advance his progressive educational theories. He envisioned a world in which children structured their own world and became experts in their own matters. Jewish children between the ages of seven and fourteen were allowed to live there while attending Polish public school and government-sponsored Jewish schools, known as "Sabbath" schools. The orphanage opened a summer camp in 1921, which remained in operation until the summer of 1940.
Besides serving as principal of Dom Sierot and another orphanage, Nasz Dom, Korczak was also a doctor and author, worked at a Polish radio station, was a principal of an experimental school, published a children’s newspaper and was a docent at a Polish university. Korczak also served as an expert witness in a district court for minors. He became well-known in Polish societyand received many awards. The rise of anti-Semitism in the 1930's restricted only his activities with Jews.
In 1934 and 1936, Korczak visited Palestine and was influenced by the kibbutz movement. Following his trips, Korczak was convinced that all Jews should move to Palestine.
The Germans occupied Poland in September 1939, and the Warsaw ghetto was established in November 1940. The orphanage was moved inside the ghetto. Korczak received many offers to be smuggled out of the ghetto, but he refused because he did not want to abandon the children. On August 5, 1942, Korczak joined nearly 200 children and orphanage staff members were rounded up for deportation to Treblinka, where they were all put to death.

Piccolo saggio del celebre pedagogo polacco Janusz Korczak, questo libretto ci parla dei diritti che hanno i bambini, spesso negati dagli adulti, e l'importanza della responsabilità educativa. Ci fa riflettere e ci fa chiedere sul come educare i bambini, e la difficoltà degli adulti nel comprendere i più piccoli.

Un piccolo gioiello pedagogico.

Janusz Korczak a écrit ce livre merveilleux sur le droit de l'enfant au respect. Ce livre est suivie de conventions sur les droits des enfants. Encore un livre qui nous montre le respect qu'on devrait accorder aux enfants.

Un extrait qui fait réfléchir : "Un mendiant gère son aumône à sa guise ... L'enfant, lui, ne possède rien et doit rendre compte de chaque objet qu'il reçoot. Il n'a pas le droit de déchirer, de le casser, de le salir, de le donner, de le refuset, même s'il ne lui plaît pas. Il doit l'accepter, il doit s'en montrer satisfait. Par ailleurd, ces objets lui sont donnés pour une raison et un usage précis. Pour obtenir quelque chose, l'enfant doit le mériter par son bon comportement. Il faut qu'il multiplie les demandes polies, et surtout qu'il n'exige rien ! Rien ne lui revient de droit, tout dépend de notre bon vouloir. (Une comparaison malheureuse me vient à l'esprit : la maītresse d'un homme riche se trouve un peu dans la même situation.) Le rapport de l'adulte à l'enfant est corrompu à cause du dénuement de ce dernier et de sa dépendance matérielle. "

"Δεν είναι παιδιά - είναι άνθρωποι". Δεν ξέρω πόσα χρόνια πέρασαν από την τελευταία φορά που ένα βιβλίο μου δημιούργησε την ανάγκη να πιάσω μολύβι στα χέρια και να υπογραμμίσω! Δεν θυμάμαι ποιος μου είχε συστήσει να αγοράσω το μοναδικό μεταφρασμένο στα ελληνικά κείμενο του Korczak, αλλά του χρωστάω ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ! Νομίζω ότι ανακάλυψα μια "Βίβλο" της παιδαγωγικής (κι όμως ...γραμμένη στις αρχές του προηγούμενου αιώνα!)

Absolu banger .. ça donne envie de fonder une nouvelle école mais j’ai pas d’argent.

Nous sommes les gardiens des murs et du mobilier scolaires, du silence dans la cour, de la propreté des oreilles et du sol. Des bergers veillant à ce que leur troupeau ne provoque pas de dégâts, ne dérange pas les adultes. Des intendants responsables des culottes courtes râpées et des chaussures éculées. De mesquins gestionnaires chargés du partage des repas.

J'avais déjà fait un retour sur une partie du bouquin, à propos de la Convention Internationale des Droits de l'Enfants. Je suis outrée par ce qui se dit dedans et surtout en colère. Mais, cet auteur explique pourquoi. Ces ressentis et ses hypothèses à l'égard des adultes et de la société. De comment ils considèrent les enfants. Je ne saurais expliquer ce que j'ai ressenti ou ressens encore après avoir fini de lire ceci. Je pense surtout que l'on peut comprendre et définir ce genre de sentiments soi-même, après avoir lu ce livre riche en informations et émotions

Большой перерыв между первой книгой Януша Корчака и второй: 30 лет.
Книга, которую стоит прочитать хотя бы раз, а может и не один, особенно, когда бытовые проблемы заслоняют самое главное. Ребенок должен быть ребенком, и его взрослость не стоит поощрять. Я сама не очень хочу взрослеть, почему я толкая своего сына к осознанности, к которой он может прийти сам и позже. Не надо просит, хотеть и требовать слишком много.

Piękna książka, którą absolutnie powinien przeczytać każdy rodzic. W ogóle Korczak najpiękniej i najmądrzej pisze o potrzebach dzieci. To niesamowite jaką dozą empatii ale też racjonalności wykazuje się w kontaktach z nimi. Minęło tyle lat, a jego książki są lepsze niż niejeden nowoczesny poradnik. Naprawdę ogromnie szanuję i chętnie uczę się o tym, jak rozmawiać, przebywać, traktować dzieci. Bardzo polecam, króciutkie, dobre, przydatne.

Un testo breve, emozionante sul diritto dei bambini a essere considerati esseri umani interi, e non a metà. Il diritto al rispetto del loro tempo, e dei loro tempi, tutti diversi.
Un bellissimo libro che mi ha anche fatto scoprire una figura straordinaria, Janusz Korczak, l'autore, che donò la sua vita per i bambini, fino ad accompagnarli alla morte.

Un bel ouvrage pour repenser ou remettre en question sa posture d'enseignant(e), de parent. Pour ce que est de la "sainte, pure et immaculée enfance...", j'ai quelques réserves.

Okay, das war irgendwie was anderes als ich erwartet hab lol. Es ging eigentlich nicht so viel um Pädagogik. Trotzdem interessant. Wir hatten Korczak in der Ausbildung und ich fand ihn und seine Ansichten schon da super spannend. Und super grausam, wie er geendet hat. Aber vielleicht hätte ich sein anderes Buch zuerst lesen sollen, das wurde nämlich früher geschrieben.

Wspaniała i ponadczasowa. Pomimo upływu lat aż szokujące jest to jak aktualne są słowa Korczaka. Na pewno będę wracać do tej krótkiej lektury. Każda osoba pracująca z dziećmi i każdy rodzic powinien po to sięgnąć.

Un libro certamente "datato" e per molti versi (e toni) molto lontano da noi e dal nostro sentire. Ma Korczak, che da medico divenne scrittore e pedagogo, fino a condividere con i suoi bambini e ragazzi, ai quali aveva dato tutto, rinunciando anche a farsi una famiglia propria, la morte nel campo di Treblinka, ha una grande lucidità nel descrivere chi è il vero educatore: una persona che non si sottrae mai alla fatica dell'educare e che non ha paura dei propri sbagli e di lasciare che i bambini facciano la propria strada, per essere gli adulti di domani. In alcune parti profetico.

Un libro sicuramente invecchiato, ma non così tanto. Scritto agli inizi del secolo scorso, questo testo è un'attenta disamina dei comportamenti degli adulti nei confronti dei bambini. Esiste un modo universale di educare? Diamo per scontati molti aspetti, perdoniamo poco e ci aspettiamo più di quanto un bambino sia in grado di trasmettere. Ma quindi, siamo noi educatori a sbagliare? E come sbagliamo? Un ragionamento lucido ed efficace che risponde a tutti questi interrogativi, in modo saliente ma forse non esaustivo. Un buon punto di partenza per approfondimenti pedagogici.
