When the mafia plane exploded, that should have been the end of troubles McIntyre's Gulch, but the government only became more interested in The Gulch and RCMP detective, Chuck Goodhead. Butterscotch Jones has other woes besides. A giant skeleton has been discovered outside of town and Sasquatch Watch is on the way with reporters and an anthropologist. Can she get rid of them before someone ends up dead or the town's past ends up exposed?
This book includes the bonus short story "Don't Eat Possum In The Fall" set shortly after Buttersotch's arrival in McIntyre's Gulch.
Melanie, an award-winning author of more than fifty novels, stories and poems lives with her writer husband in the California Gold Country with their cat (also a writer who has a page on myspace) and their dog (who is hoping to get a page on facebook as soon as she masters typing). Melanie likes gardening but hates the deer who also like her garden, and she volunteers at a local animal shelter.
Book #2 pretty much leaves off where book 1 ended. It is best one reads in order. This time one of the residents insists he saw a Sasquach. Everyone in the community knows the old man is obsessed with the legend and humor him. Our residents do not like or want outsiders. They ask too many questions and may discover secrets better kept quiet. But because of that irritating plane crash - book 1 - they got both reporters and scary nosy government people. I would have liked more depth in all of them as they just appear as vague shadow figures. Except when dead bodies show up with markings that are not bear. They need to hide a whole lot of stuff from these outsiders. These novels are short and lack real depth. There are details of the dangers of the weather, wildlife and geography but there is little or no invested detail of our funky townspeople. Everything seems so matter of fact. EDIT: Yet, I just cannot get enough.
I really enjoy most of the books by Melanie Jackson, the characters are quirky in a good way. The mysteries pretty solid and the heroines do not act carelessly or wait for the men in their lives to save them. the one downside is the shortness of many of the books and this one could easily have been the final chapters of Due North, the first book in the series. That said i did enjoy the book. Strangers are still coming to town looking for treasure form the plane that crashed several months ago. In the woods, something is stirring and one of the strangers is found with his throat ripped out while trying to steal some very old bones..but bones of what...its the North woods?
This was a little different because we have a girl,Butterscotch who is living in the wilds of Canada . She seems to have something she is hiding from and she is falling for a Mountie while they look for a murderer. It was a heck of a hunt. They deal with finding big bones that they think are from big foot. It was a quick , fun read.
This is a short book that continues the story of Butterscotch Jones and her quirky neighbors in Canada. It contains the humor and good plotting I liked in Due North the first book in the series. I do think one needs to read the first book in order to understand some of the plot in this one.
Big Bones Another light story about the adventures of Butterscotch Jones. The plot seemed a bit rushed at times, and it was easy to guess the twists and turns for the most part. Still, an enjoyable read and good enough to read the next book in the series.
