Will an idyllic summer holiday lead Arnie to the love of his life, or the end of it?

It should be the start of a perfect vacation. After a period of stress, Arnie Walker takes his nine-year-old son AJ home for the holidays. Arnie grew up in Nyemouth, a picturesque fishing town on the North-East coast of England, and he wants AJ to experience the kind of carefree, endless summer he enjoyed as a boy. It’s a short-lived dream. While taking an evening walk along the North Point cliff, Arnie and AJ witness a murder attempt.

For the volunteer crew of Nyemouth Lifeboat Station, it’s a rescue mission like none before, Helmsman Dominic Melton is part of the team who rescue the victim from the deadly North Sea. When Arnie and Dominic come together in the aftermath of the attack, the attraction is instant. Arnie isn’t looking for a relationship. He’s committed to his son’s wellbeing and has no time for a distraction like Dominic, even though the handsome ex-naval officer is hard to dismiss. Is it possible for Arnie to full fill his promises to AJ while falling for Dominic?

Despite the distraction, a fledgling killer is at large. As feelings between Arnie and Dominic develop, so does the danger they are in. North Point may be a beautiful place to fall in love, but it could also be the most dangerous.

Reader advisory: This book contains scenes of murder, attempted murder and a father and son in peril. There is discussion of historical child neglect, scenes of stalking and some violence. There is reference to drug use and some homophobic language.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

North Point is the first book in the Jagged Shores series. This thriller places a significant emphasis on the instant and very physical attraction between Arnie and Dominic. At the same time, the small-town setting adds to the cozy appeal of a story that features no less than three attempted murders (with varying levels of success). Even with all the nefarious activity, the on-page gore is very minimal. For anyone looking for a who-done-it thriller that features a spicy romance without going overboard on the murder descriptions, I think you’ll find this book hits that spot.

I enjoyed the pacing of the story. It starts off immediately with a murder attempt witnessed by Arnie and his son, so that definitely sets a bit of a gloomy shadow over the whole story until the book’s resolution. There are two more brushes with the murderer in the book that keep the tension at a simmer. I also liked how, despite the gossip grapevine being very alive and well in the universe of the book, sometimes the news of these (attempted) murders came as a surprise to the characters.

North Point is my introduction to Thom Collins and I’m definitely on the look out now for more of his work! This novel begins with actor Arnie and his nine years old son AJ returning home to a small town to avoid the media. Arnie was once married and his ex-wife is quite the media magnet – unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. That attention was carrying over to Arnie and his son.

Arnie has had full custody of his son since some terrible photos of AJ and his mother were posted all over the place. He gave up what he was doing to focus on his son, made him his top priority.

The retreat to Arnie’s childhood home is supposed to be a vacation…but on a lovely evening walk Arnie and AJ witness an attempted murder. This launching them into a mystery!

The other main character in this story is Dominic. He is the helmsman for the Coast Guard boat that resides in the town. He’s happy with his work, his house, his dog Brandy and the friends he has. But when he meets Arnie, for one of the first times in his life, he thinks he might be open to wanting more.

I really enjoyed this story! It’s not just the romance – which is lovely and very hot – but because there’s such peril and mystery. There are also a few interesting issues addressed that I always enjoy.

As an actor, Arnie deals with media intervention in his life constantly. Collins addresses the intense scrutiny of the media and the effect that it can have on people’s lives. I hadn’t really ever though about the way that photos of someone could be seen by their child…and that isn’t a healthy situation at all.

Arnie is a wonderful father and I loved that. He’s capable, loving, and fiercely protective. It’s lovely to see a father … simply being a father. I find too often in books that a father is portrayed as a “babysitter” rather than a “parent”. There’s none of that in this book, and I loved it.

Small towns are full of gossip and that’s something else that Collins addresses in his book. Everyone knows everyone else’s business – but the problem is that they often get it completely wrong. I grew up in a small town so I know what it’s like and it’s captured well in this book.

One of my favorite characters is AJ and I think that’s really because of the relationship with his father. They have a lovely, healthy relationship and it was a pleasure to read. There is a scene towards the end of the book that had me afraid to stop reading! I’m not going to spoil it for you… but it is particularly well-written and, let me tell you, it’s been a long time since I read something that intense! I was on the edge of my seat!

This is a great book and I’m really looking forward to reading more in this series!

A gay romance... set in the UK? And there's a murder mystery component? Oh, hello, answer to my dreams!

I really enjoyed this read, about an actor with his young son returning to his home by the sea for the summer. Once there he almost immediately falls for a hunky lifeboat helmsman, and after a few meetings they end up falling into bed (and love). The only complication is the murderer haunting the town - our hero and his son witness the first attack, and then the spectre of a stalker puts a shadow over their visit.

Loved: I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the coast and the sea, and the dramatic rescues of the lifeboat team. No spoilers, but I couldn't put it down during the climax sequence! Plus I'm loving that little bit of text on the cover - 'book one'... meaning there's going to be more!

Liked: I normally love a slow burn, and our heroes ended up getting together quitr quickly. I still loved the development of their romance and also the surrounding mystery.

Disliked: I wish there had been a more satisfying resolution to the case. More shown than what was in the epilogue. There was a tendency early on to rely on big batches of description and exposition, but this thankfully went away soon and I was able to get into the story more.
Burning Question: What does AJ stand for?! I was on tenterhooks throughout because I was worried it might stand for Arnie Junior. Oh well, probably best we never know!

I received a free ARC copy of this book but my review is my genuine opinion.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Arnie is a film and TV start and has returned to his home town with his 9 year old son AJ to spend the holidays in his home town with his extended family. Very early on in the story Arnie and AJ witness a horrific attempted murder. The crime is so sudden and so simple I found it little confronting. In the aftermath of the crime Arnie meets Dominic, a volunteer at the local Lifeboat Station.

The attraction between Dominic and Arnie is strong right from the start but there is no rushing into things. There are glances and conversations and by the time they actually go out the sexual tension has been ratcheted right up. I found their romance is sexy and the anticipation exciting. It seems like the men met each other at exactly the right time in their lives and they are a perfect fit for each other.

The backdrop to this romance is a beautiful town but the danger is present as the perpetrator of the crime Arnie witnessed has still not been caught. I confess I briefly got caught up in the intoxicating courtship between Dominic and Arnie and I forgot about the danger but it rears its head with a heat stopping climax.

I had an absolutely wonderful time reading North Point. My only criticism is that it wasn’t enough. I wanted more time with Arnie and Dominic being in love. I didn’t want to leave them. I’m hoping that the author gives us more of this couple in the future.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I really enjoyed this gentle story of the romance that builds between an actor and a lifeboat captain in a small seaside town.

Both Arnie and Dominic are wonderful characters. While Arnie is described as a well known actor, the Arnie we see as readers is an introverted, devoted father. Dominic has layers to his identity that are slowly revealed as the novel plays out but he feels like a worthy heroic lead from his first daring lifeboat rescue. The connection between the two men is instant but the relationship between them builds slowly. This is a relatively low heat family focused romance but I fell hard for both men and I became very invested in their relationship.

The setting is almost as special as Dominic and Arnie’s relationship. I love Arnie’s hometown, the quirky residents and his close knit family. The author captures the atmosphere of summer at the English seaside beautifully.

I feel like the murder mystery element of this story doesn’t quite fit the otherwise gentle small town romance. While the characters and relationships in this book feel real and relatable, the murder mystery feels increasingly implausible and exaggerated as the story progresses. I don’t think this book actually needed the OTT drama this storyline offers - I was quite content with the quiet personal conflicts in Arnie and Dominic’s lives.

This is the first book I've read by Thom Collins, and it won't be the last. I loved the story and the characters. The way the relationship developed between Arnie and Dominic was realistic and felt natural, and the interaction between them was great! I did have some issues with the mystery though. It felt rushed and like the author was stretching, That said, I still liked it and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Good story, great characters, amazing interactions...you need to one-click this story today. 3.5 stars!

4.5 stars. The first book I have read by this author and I will certainly be reading more. A very enjoyable story in a beautiful location. The relationship between Arnie and his son was lovely, and AJ was a charming child. The attraction between Arnie and Dominis felt right. The opening attempted murder was incredibly thought out, really unbelievable. It made for a lot of suspense.

While on summer holiday, Arnie and his son AJ find themselves witnessing something they shouldn't. Arnie calls in to report what just happened, and help is dispatched. Arnie and AJ are taken to the lifeboat station where Arnie's dad and mom are waiting for them. At the station Arnie is introduced to Dominic, the helmsman of the lifeboat, and also a very attractive man. Unfortunately, this is not the right time, nor the right place to be getting interested in someone. However, these two keep finding themselves in the others vicinity. The sparks between them is harder and harder to ignore, but Arnie keeps reminding himself that this trip is for AJ, not to hook up. As AJ and Arnie try to move on from what happened that horrible night, someone else is lurking in the shadows. Upon returning to the rental house one evening, Arnie notices someone hiding by the house. After chasing off to hopefully see who is watching his house, the stalker escapes. Dominic is scared for Arnie and AJ now that it's known someone is watching them. Being former military, Dominic wants to help. Arnie and Dominic are unable to avoid the chemistry between them any longer, so amongst all the surrounding drama they begin a relationship. Needing to figure out how to slowly introduce Dominic to AJ, Dominic comes up with the idea to bring him to the station for a tour. The tour and introduction go well, AJ is fascinated with the boat and everything he sees and learns there. When the tour is over father and son decide to walk the beach. A storm is coming, the tide is moving in, and the beach is no longer safe to continue exploring. Arnie yells to AJ that they need to leave immediately. While not happy about cutting his adventure short, AJ walks back to his father. As AJ approaches he notices someone familiar behind his dad, and this person ends up attacking Arnie from behind. The attacker leaves an unconscious Arnie and scared AJ to get swept out to sea. With Arnie unconscious, the tide coming in stronger and higher by the minute, how are AJ and his dad going to get themselves out of this alive? Is this the end for them, will anyone ever know what happened to them? Read to discover these answers and all the other interesting parts I haven't mentioned. I enjoyed this book and the characters. I recommend giving this story a try.

Young actor, Arnie Walker and his nine-year-old son AJ spend their holidays in Nyemouth, Arnie's hometown. It was supposed to be a time of fun, joy and strengthening the family ties. Unfortunately, a lot changes when Arnie and AJ witness a murder attempt and only thanks to the man's quick reaction the victim of the attack survives. This dramatic event leads to a meeting of Arnie and attractive Dominic Melton, who works as a lifeboat helmsman in his free time. Their mutual attraction can't be denied, but for Arnie his son and his safety are the priorities. So is it really okay to date when the criminal is still at large?

"North Point" is the first volume of Thom Collins' "Jagged Shores" series and the first book by this author I've had the pleasure of reading. I want to be honest with you, so I will say it right away, this book is amazing. The story the author tells us is built in a way that allows the characters to have a fairly normal life, so we can get to know them as they get to know each other. I think it's very important that although in the novel we can see some crimes, the whole story doesn't revolve around them, as "North Point" is not a crime story, but rather a thriller. However, I must mention the fact that although the mystery isn't the most important part of this novel's plot, it doesn't affect the quality of this story. "North Point" is a very interesting and suspenseful book that raises many deep and moving problems, but doesn't develop all of them. Thanks to this fact, the story makes the readers think those issues through, but doesn't give them any ready-made solutions. There is also one more thing really worth mentioning, namely "North Point" is quite a surprising book.

If you asked me who my favourite character in "North Point" was, I wouldn't have problems with the answer, although it might surprise you, as my favourite character and at the same time one of the greatest advantages of this novel was Gabriel – Arnie's childhood friend and Dominic's friend with benefits. I think that the author built and presented him in a really fantastic way, thanks to which Gabriel was really interesting and caught my eye. To be honest, I think I have never seen a side character with such a huge impact on the story building. The character of Gabriel in general tells us a lot about the main characters, emphasises Arnie's and Dominic's good and bad qualities through the dynamics of his relationship with them and through him being who he is. What's more, it is he who introduces many serious problems for us to think about when reading "North Point". There are many fantastic characters in this novel, including the main ones, but Gabriel was the best of them.

In "North Point", I also liked the fact that the novel shows the topic of home in a really beautiful way. First of all, Arnie doesn't exaggerates as in an almost touching but natural, balanced way characterises home as a place where he grew up, which is close to his heart, in which people closest to him still live and which is linked to thousands of his happy memories. At the same time, he juxtaposes his home with the city where he lives but which is only a workplace to him. It really touched me and spoke to me. However, this is not all, as showing us Arnie's home, the author also managed to "sketch" using words a beautiful picture of Nyemouth. It is worth noting that Thom Collins doesn't focus on unnecessary, long, detailed descriptions. Instead, he briefly but concisely shows the most important to the main character and the most beautiful places in Nyemouth, and does it in such an efficient way that the reader is able to imagine every detail and really loves that place.

I think that "North Point" also presents the theme of strength and weakness in an extremely interesting and diverse way. On the one hand, we see it in the form of the "stay or leave" dilemma, which appears in the context of the threat resulting from being a witness of an attempted murder and thus being chased out of one's own home. In "North Point" we also see a more conventional representation of this motif, which refers to physical and mental strength and weakness, and let's add that in this novel these two aspects of strength and weakness intertwine with each other. Finally, this motif also refers to the topic of heroic rescue of another person, showing us a direct way of rescuing someone like pulling someone out of the water, not letting them drown, etc. and to some extent an indirect way, staying put at the helm even when the situation is dramatic, so that everyone, both the rescue team and the injured person could return safely ashore. I am really impressed with how the author managed to show all this in his novel.

In summary, "North Point" is a really well written, incredibly interesting, sometimes surprising novel that instantly engrosses the reader. Well-built and likeable characters conquer our hearts, while our minds focus on all the problems shown in this story and our souls admire the beauty of Nyemouth. We fall in love with this novel and become addicted to it from the very first page.

Co więcej, to właśnie on wprowadza do „North Point” wiele tematów głębokich, skłaniających nas do myślenia.

To naprawdę mnie poruszyło i przemówiło do mnie.

A decent M-M romance despite an insta-lust attract between MCs, set in a rather charming coastal seaside town; the author could have been aiming for a Broadchurch - season 1 vibe. I actually managed to determine the killer's identity at first introduction in the plot ... but not quite the motivation/rationale behind the killing, but the final reveal left me unsatisfied. I'd definitely come back for book 2 in this series if the author gives us a David Tennant & Jonathan Bailey pairing LOL! 3.5 stars overall.

What I Think: So as we all know by now, I avoid tales with kids as much as possible. But, all these amazing scribblers and puppeteers keep putting them in tales that I just have to read and so, here we are! I have a problem with tales that don’t give me a good idea of what the characters look like early enough. After all, we’re painting pictures with words so the tales unfold like a movie in our minds and I’m so glad that didn’t happen here. Only for a heinous crime to reach out and grab my attention. By the time the lightning bolt struck Arnie, I was ensconced in bed and ready to dig in with my full attention. The affection and fondness Arnie feels for his home made me want to see it. Just as his love for his son, AJ permeates everything he does. Coming from a bit of a gypsy family myself, I’ve never felt at home anywhere so jealousy slayeth me. And Dominic not only got the lightning bolt too, but he’s in denial and a little growly. Ha! Let the love games begin. But Dom is too perfect. Aaarrgghh! How can he be an ex-Forces man and a volunteer then have the best damn job in the world? And now Arnie is fighting the attraction too. I know the fall is going to be real. Dominic’s feelings about Arnie’s ex is simply hilarious. I couldn’t help laughing out loud. It’s as hilarious as Gabriel’s bitchiness is really annoying, especially as it’s all for nothing and based on even more nothing. But Dominic is already on the slippery slope to falling for Arnie and I do not see how this could end well. Now, I should confess that I avoid my neighbors as much as possible. In fact, if I could, I wouldn’t see any one for months on end. But I love Dom’s neighbor. Elderly and meddlesome in a positive way, while pushing Dom in the right direction. He’s too sweet and too intuitive for his own good. Dom and Gabriel are a prime example of why I flee from casual relationships. One person always seems to want more and just decides that the other is on the same page with them, then that person gets hurt and the other is a fuck tard. No one wins. I’m getting a headache just thinking about the mess involved and the way Dom handled it earned him a smack on the back of his head from me. What I don’t get, even though I love it, is how you can be viscerally attracted to someone, think you can spend time together and not give in? Ha! Even an angel would fall. What happens when you have 2 people lying to themselves? Catastrophe of the hottest kind but even that is dulled by the terror of evil that begins stalking Arnie. From my personal experience, there are few things as horrible as home not being safe. As a child though, there’s nothing worse than that which I found out as a child. With that inner child that exists in all of us, how does Arnie start a romance, take care of his son and still enjoy a holiday in his home when it’s being marred every step of the way? My boy needs to learn some serious juggling skills and apparently he’s a fast learner because he still finds a way to sweep Dom off his feet which was when I fell in love with Dom. When he answers a question with, ”you’re the right guy,” my heart turned to marshmallow mush. How on earth do nice guys like Arnie end up with people like Tara? Arnies genes must be stronger than hers because AJ is just like him when he could easily be more like his mum. When and does anyone get a chance to smack this woman and inject some sense into her head? Dominic’s view of her has got nothing on my view and the appropriate justice I want to mete out. And then I fell in love with sweet, thoughtful, mature beyond his years AJ. It’s sad that we live in a society that doesn’t appreciate the right things because these lifeboat rescue workers are heroes for way they do. Risking themselves time and time again to save lives that most people won’t even think twice about is truly humbling. Only for acute anguish to have me checking if this was the kind of series that was made up of standalones or not. But after going through all the see-sawing of emotions, the author tidies up in a way that had relief making me sink deeper into my sofa.

Verdict? A well-made unfolding of romance perfectly merged with thriller and terror to produce a heady cocktail.

What I Liked

This book had a real-life feel to it that is often missing in gay romance novels. It deals with small-town gossip, gay fatherhood challenges, jealous “lovers” and the like. The introduction of the murder mystery within the first few pages really helps to get the hook into you. Don’t worry, there is plenty of romance and feeling your way through the beginnings of a relationship around the murder mystery that is playing out in the background.

All the characters were well built and could easily relate to. Arnie was my favorite character. Being a gay father myself, I could absolutely feel the struggle and angst he felt between the needs of his son and his desires. (Thank goodness, I am not single!) Most gay romance novels seem to glance over that part and jump straight to a sex scene. This was a well thought out progression into building a relationship.

The mystery piece of the book definitely kept my attention, thus kept me turning the pages! Suspenseful might be the best word to use. It was always in the background…checking the security cameras, cautious of workouts, making sure the door was locked when you came in from the garden. As the mystery moves closer to home, decisions need to be made (trying to avoid too many spoilers here).

What I did not Care for

There were a couple of places in the book that got pronouns mixed up, which if you are speed reading will trip you up (he to they). Likely some auto-correct mistake someplace, hey it has happened to all of us at some point. Like I said, it was only a couple of places and in my leisurely reading pace, it was fine.

My Recommendation
This was a well-structured, well written, easy read. While there are some small twists as it relates to the murder, it was not hard to follow requiring deep thought. The author brought in real-life struggles to make it more realistic, including how they both have pasts, both are not young pups any longer, both have “ex-s” (or the non-relationship gay equivalent), and of course dealing with a small town where everything thinks they know everyone else’s business.

I would be remiss if I did not mention: The hotness level was up there as well – two well-built, hunky guys, one an actor, one ex-military.

This was my first Thom Collins book, it will not be my last. In fact, I am looking forward to the continuation of the series. I am waiting to learn what the REAL deal is with the brother-in-law. I enjoyed how there were a couple of little items left up in the air like that. This will only help to seed the next book.

I DID receive a copy of this book from the author or publisher in exchange for an HONEST review. All these opinions are mine and I received NO compensation for this review.

ENG-  So well well well... well the summary really made me want, especially that once again, there was a single-dad. I had a good time reading. I found the author's pen quite nice and the rhythm really catchy. I liked the characters that I found well worked and developed despite the fact that the novel is short. The mixture of suspense, romance and action is well balanced and you never get bored for a minute.

I really liked the character of AJ who is quite important and present in the novel even if the beautiful part is made to Arnie and Dominic. The relationship between the two men is really nice, I really liked the way they will fall in love with each other and the ease of their story despite the danger that awaits them.

The intrigue part is also well conducted, I didn't see the culprit coming at all and it was intriguing enough to make me shiver in my reading.

The only downside is that the novel is really short and suddenly I don't have much to say. It was good. Well written, well brought. The sex scenes are brief but well written. The endearing characters. But it is unfortunately the kind of novel as soon as read, as soon as published. A good time to read though.

We start the book with Archie who is an actor taking his nine-year-old son on holiday to his hometown in the North East of England. What happens when they are walking along the cliffs edge changes their lives for ever and sets of a chain of events that get darker as you turn the pages.
The idea of the holiday is to spend quality time with AJ away from the press and the endless headlines about his ex-wife’s latest scandals. He wants to give AJ some normality in his life and thought sharing his childhood memories with AJ would be perfect.
Everything was going well until they happened to witness a man throwing a woman over the cliff’s edge. Which sets of a chain of events that changes their lives for ever.
The author set the scene vividly with his descriptive writing, I even shivered a few times when there was stormy weather, living not too far from the area of the story, I know how severe those winds can be.
I loved the slow burn (well not too slow) build up between Archie and Dominic, they fit together perfectly with similar interests and outlook on life.
I adored AJ who is 9 going on 12, again the author got the relationship between Archie and AJ exactly right and their interaction was authentic. I loved the scene where AJ asks why his dad has not got a boyfriend and encourages him to find one.
The mystery and tension slowly builds, with someone watch Archie from the shadows, and for once I did not guess who the murderer was until near the end of the story.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable read with a slow build up of tension to a climatic end. Great descriptive writing and real and authentic characters. I am looking forward to book 2.

Meet Arnie. Actor. Single Dad to AJ. Forever trying to shield AJ from his mother’s antics. Putting more of his attention into raising AJ than finding himself someone new to love.

On a return to his hometown for the summer holidays, Arnie and AJ witness a crime. A jogger is suddenly grabbed right in front of them and thrown off the cliff onto the beach below. Being a local, Arnie doesn’t have much hope of her survival, but calls the coastguard because the chance, however slim, is there.

Meet Dominic. An ex-navy, volunteer costs guard who makes his living writing best selling action thrillers. Dominic happens to be driving the boat the night of the crime. And from the moment Arnie and Dominic meet you know there are sparks.

Naturally nothing is straightforward, between dealing with Dominic’s FWB who developed feelings for him, and the man who threw the woman from the cliff stalking Arnie and AJ as the only witnesses. Oh and then throw in a murder and another attempted murder…will Arnie and Dominic end up together?

This was a joy ride! Not only was it a well paced crime thriller, but there was spice boot!

Both aspect of this book went hand in hand, and neither felt like an afterthought. The spice scenes were written well enough for clear visuals but weren’t cringey as they sometimes can be.

The crime storyline is a light whodunnit but it kept me guessing until the reveal. My initial criminal guess was proven incorrect about half way through 😤

Kept me on the edge my seat!

One of the things I really liked about the story was that there was no angst about characters being gay – no one in town seemed to think anything of it and, in fact, supported the three gay men in the book.

The story started out with a bang that had me waiting for the next thing to happen while I read the budding romance between Dominic and Arnie. The blurb is excellent so I'm not going to try and retell the story in my own words. Instead I will tell you that once I started reading North Point I didn't want to put it down.

The characters were all interesting, the thrilling mystery and suspense kept me engaged from beginning to end and I did not guess who the bad person was until the author wanted me to know. I loved how supportive the town was of Arnie and his son. His parents were also wonderful. There were several secondary characters who added dimension to the story.

The book had several bite-my-nails moments and the story helped reinforce how much I love a good, in depth, romantic suspense. I also enjoyed the hot sexy scenes between Arnie and Dominic. 😊

North Point is the beginning of a series, Jagged Shores, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this new-to-me author, Thom Collins.

A good mystery, which was set in an area where I actually lived, so an extra star for that. I've not come across this author before, but I will definitely read the second book in this series.

The writing is both straightforward and dependable. I guessed the baddie early on in the story, but that didn't make me want to stop reading. Both Arnie and Dominic, were a perfect fit, and this, along with the mystery, made the story very readable.

I loved the description of the area, and of how Arnie and Dominic's romance developed. The secondary characters played a big part in the story, but all were relevant and played their part.

The mystery was OK, there wasn't really a reason for what happened, but sometimes, that's just how life is. So a decent down to earth read, good descriptive writing, which made me quite nostalgic. I will definitely read the next in the series, if there is one. Three and a half stars.

Addictive and intense, with very human characters and with defined personalities, but I feel that the police theme was a bit relegated to give more space to the romance and personal conflicts of each character, in addition to the steamy scenes were shorter than I expected. It doesn't mean it's a bad book, because it's very well written and the author handles tension very well, but I expected a more balanced narration.

Not sure why I chose to buy and read this since I usually give romantic suspense books the side-eye but once again, so glad I did! Arnie and Dominic are a combustible couple who meet when Arnie and his son, AJ, witness an attempted murder. Lots of chemistry between our two MCs and I was surprised at the jump into a physical relationship but it fit the dynamics between the two men. Nice balance of mystery, fear and the developing love between Arnie and Dominic. Arnie is a great dad and that is nicely conveyed. Lots of small town vibes here which give the book a cozy mystery feel but with lots of steam. Great start to this series and look forward to more of this author's works.

A good gay love story line together with a murder mystery . Enjoyed the location of Northumberland and dynamic between. The two main characters are attractive personalities Arnie has returned to him home town for a summer holiday with his young son AJ. He is divorced from Tara who is living a hedonistic life style and he is attempting to shield his son from his mother exploits. He meets the attractive Dominic who is a helmsman on the local Nyemouth Lifeboat as well as being an author.
I read this book after having read the third in the series first and really enjoyed the story and recommend the series by Thom Collins

This book was my introduction to Thom Collins, and I will definitely be reading more. I loved the premise of the story, with Arnie returning home to hopefully give his son a carefree summer, and instead they witness an attempted murder. I was hooked on the murder mystery and if that isn't enough, it's got a meaningful romance between the MCs that builds naturally, and small-town realism. Not to mention how it tugged on my heart to see what a wonderful father Arnie is to AJ. A great story with well-fleshed out characters and an engaging mystery. Looking forward to the next in the series!

Arnie Walker is a celebrity on vacation in his home town with his son. They witness an attempted murder. Dominic is part of a rescue team, doesn't believe in relationship and very attracted to Arnie and wants to start a relationship with him. The book is mysterious, very intense moments, romantic, jealousy, and it will have you on the edge of your seat.
The book is well written and easy to read that it will that the characters seems so realistic. I loved that the people in town are so accepting and not prejudice to these characters.

A fairly gentle read despite the lurking violence that opens the book but it is more of an undercurrent until the end part.
Arnie is the local boy made good, back for the summer with his son, though the toxic side of fame is highlighted through his ex wife’s antics.
Dominic has made the town home, getting involved in the RNLI helming the boat.
So most of the story is them getting together.
A couple of action sequences with the lifeboat, the escalation of a highly disturbed man gives the nail biting end.
I do quite like Thom Collins writing style, and set in the North East.

Thom Collins’ debut novel in a planned romance series is set in the remote, picturesque northeast coast of England and features two men with accomplished careers but no luck at love. While a mysterious assailant looms in the background, they forge a deep, much-needed companionship in an unlikely place for a budding gay relationship.

Not bad

This was a surprisingly good read. It drew me in right from the very startling beginning. Wow! There was a relaxed pace in spite of some disturbing events. A lovely romance too. A mostly satisfying ending. Like most of the characters, I would have liked a why, but since no one got a why, I can't complain. Editing and proofing could have been better, but overall not a bad read.

First, I want to thank Thom Collins and Gay Book Promotions for this book so I may bring you this review.

North Point by Thom Collins is the first in the Jagged Shores series.

This book is dedicated to all the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, every one of them is a hero.

Thom did a great job building up the budding relationship between Arnie and Dominic. Both had careers that I admire-a movie star and writer. It was comical that they both looked eachother up on social media.

There was a very shocking scene in the beginning of the book. There is a mystery around that event.

The sexual scenes were very well written.

A good beginning to a series ( hope there will be more as this is listed as book 1).
Arnie and his son AJ have gone home to Northumberland for the summer, back to where Arnie was born and raised. There he meets Dominic, a well known writer and helmsman of the local lifeboat.
There is a good mix of romance and also suspense where there is a murderer on the loose as well.
Recommended.
