Friendship Harbor Mysteries #2

Llama See That Evidence

Rate this book
As ex-actress Sophie LaFleur settles into her new role as pub owner, her past gig as an amateur sleuth keeps sneaking into her current reality. Local gossip and a cryptic message have her on a new case and this time, it's personal. Rumor has it her grammy killed none other than Sophie’s grandfather back in the eighties.

That’s a plot twist straight out of Hollywood.

But this murder isn’t scripted.

Nor is the dead body in the wall of her guesthouse.

Which results in her difficult and oh-so gorgeous bar manager staying with her and Jack Kerouac, her often pesky but loveable llama. With a list of suspects reading like a casting call for reality TV, Sophie has to pick through all the lies and secrets in Friendship Harbor.

Who could imagine moving to a small town in Maine could be filled with so much evidence of murder? And this time, the mystery is a family affair...

In this second book of the series Sophie is starting to settle into her new life and is excited about what this new chapter will bring. She likes where life is headed at least she did until her bar manager Dean finds skeletal remains in the wall while trying to fix some plumbing in her guesthouse where he resides. Who could they belong to and now long have they been there? Sophie can't let it go and decides she must look into things herself. Meanwhile she learns more rumors about her grandmother one of those.being she killed Sophie's grandfather. Sophie can't let things stand as they are, not only does she want to figure out who put the body in the wall but she also wants to clear her grandmothers name. as she does her research she learns more about her family and some of the town's residents. Follow along as Sophie dives into her investigation in hopes of changing how people see her grandmother and finding a killer as well. Will she be able to do what she has set forth to do or will she herself ends up a victim. This is such a fun loving and heart warming cozy mystery series. The cast of characters is fun, one of the main ones being Jack Kerouac, a llama who you can't help but fall in love with! The plot always brings an interesting mystery and the local is one I would surely visit.

I think I must be the only one missing the point in that title: "Llama see that evidence". But the llama doesn't see any evidence. He just eats. I don't see the point of him being there, unless it's to pad out the story?

Sophie is an ex-actress who used to play a, presumably, private detective and has returned to the pub which her late grandmother ran along with the help of Dean who lives in the guesthouse on site. Dean comes rushing in one morning and asks her to come and look at his bathroom. She does. And he appears to have a dead body in his cupboard, or was it wall? Have forgotten now how he knows that, anyway they call the police and the csi people and it looks like it was the body of a missing young girl called Mandy, she handily is wearing a bracelet with her name on it. Sophie then sets out to try and solve the crime and nearly gets herself burnt to a crisp in the process. It was okay, but I don't like books with titles which don't actually marry up with anything in the book. I think there are more llama books so perhaps he gets to read in the next one. You never know.

I quite liked the characters and leaving aside some niggles the storyline wasn't too bad, but am not going to read any more about these llamas who go around and don't see the evidence. Actually it's got me thinking about llamas, they must be easier to have than sheep, they look as if they don't need shearing and are slow eaters and don't do much so they must be easy to keep. Am surprised that I don't see any driving around the hills here, although maybe we have too much rain, sheep have waterproof coats wonder if llamas have waterproof fur? Blimey, must go off and clean something else I shall be ruminating on llamas all day at this rate!

I am just loving this llama cozy mystery series! Erin has once again written a cozy mystery that is fast paced, descriptive, and keeps you turning the pages until you've solved the mystery of whose body is that in the wall of Dean's home, and who really killed Sophie's grandfather!

Sophie's mother makes a short appearance, which was kind of creepy as she was able to just let herself into Sophie's home unannounced! But it was nice to see her face her past and fill Sophie in on some things.

Sophie is making fast friends with Brandy and even Dean seems to be thawing out, though I’m not too sure if I like him much as he just seems to always push Sophie to the side. He may have been running the pub for a while, but in the end, Sophie deserves to know how it’s run and be clued in!

Of course, the beautiful Jack was featured throughout, even getting Sophie's mom to pet him! That's not something anyone could have seen coming considering she hates animals. Heck, she even admitted that Jack was cute and very soft. He just needs a partner as llamas are pack creatures.

I picked this book purely because it had a llama on the cover and I thought it would be a fun, light read. I didn’t realise it was the second book in a series, but it works fine as a standalone.

Sophie has inherited a house, guesthouse, pub, and llama from her grandmother, whom she was estranged from. When human remains are found in the walls of the guesthouse, Sophie is determined to find out what really happened, and find out more about her grandparents in the process.

This book is an easy read, funny at times, but has a bit more substance than I expected. Some parts are quite tense and keep you turning the pages. A bit predictable, I had worked out who one of the suspects was quite early on, but I still enjoyed the story. The characters are good and I liked Sophie, and of course Jack!

Each chapter has a little llama illustration at the beginning which I thought was a nice touch.

This book isn’t a masterpiece in crime fiction but it’s an easy, fun, read and I would recommend it. I would read more books in the series.

Sophie is getting used to being the owner of her inherited pub, Steamy’s in Friendship Harbor, Maine. One morning the pub manager who’s also her renter calls her to come to the guesthouse and see the “skeleton in the closet” literally! It seems there was a problem with the plumbing and when the plumber checked it out he found human bones! Of course, the Sheriff was called and it turns out to be a teenage girl, probably Mandy, who was a presumed runaway. Sophie feels compelled to investigate the murder mystery on her property, and she’s off on another adventure, wondering if Mandy’s murder is connected to the mysterious death of her grandfather. A great cozy mystery, with the added bonus of Jack Kerouac, her llama, for fun!

Sophie LaFleur left both her acting career and California and landed in Friendship Harbor, Maine hoping to solve her grandfather's murder. She inherited from her grandmother a bar with an apartment above and a guest house.

The cast of locals are typical sort: gossips,a drunk, secrets held by townies, and hard working bar employees, with one handsome bar manager. A newly found skeleton located in a wall of the guest house combined with a llama, a barn. and an exercise pen makes Sophie's world compelated.

This book is the 2nd book in the Friendship Harbor series. I hadn't read book one and I consider book two can be read as a stand alone book.

Fun quick read, second book of this series, but does standalone. You will get the full layout of this world if you read book one first. That being said, who doesn't love Sophie and her llama in her new world courtesy of her Grammy. She's bright, nosy, kind and loves her family. She doesn't really stick her nose in police business this time around, she just wants to find out about her grandparents, in doing research she gets involved in two murders, makes new friends and learns to understand her type A mother better. All together a very enjoyable read.

I started reading this as a short palate cleanser and it did the trick.

The plot wasn't too complex but I enjoyed reading it. The llama gives it a USP but didn't factor in to the storyline (though I gather it is more central to books 1 and 3 based on what was said throughout the novel.)

I thought the writing was a bit too obvious about who was going to end up being the murderer but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I won't be writing home about this one but I didn't hate it.

What do you do when a minor plumbing repair turns into the discovery of two murders? Why, you solve them, of course! (Especially when one of them happens to be the murder of the grandfather you never got a chance to meet.) Sophie LaFleur is at it again, and this time she has a partner: her employee, Brandy (who happens to be related to the other murder victim). Go on another hilarious adventure with Maine's most interesting llama owner. You won't be sorry!

A llama in a New England setting with a bar owner from CA. I thoroughly enjoyed the first of this cute cozy mystery series and the second is just as good. There’s plenty of interesting bar staff, quirky Maine small town residents, a local sheriff and family drama. A skeleton found in the wall of the guesthouse stirs up all kinds of gossip and old rumors. It’s a quick, easy read with engaging characters, suspense and a solid plot. I would definitely read more in the Friendship Harbor series.

Second book in the series

Sophie has moved to Friendship Harbor Maine from California to take over the pub that her grandmother left her when she died. She is struggling to figure out how to run the pub and fit into a small town. Then a 30 year old dead body is found buried in the wall of one of the buildings on the site of the pub. Lots of twists and turns with a surprise ending. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Good lively Who done it?

Solving her grandfather's murder and several other murders leads to a very busy time in a little tourist town. Inheriting her grandmother's good looks and cafe-bar keeps a ex-tv detective actress busier than she bargained for in real life. Well written and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Enjoy.

Llama See That Evidence, Friendship Harbor Mysteries, #2, by Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love was a cute & cozy mystery. Only one thing irritated me and that was I was expecting Jack Kerouac the llama to play a bigger role in helping to solve the mystery. Regardless, this was a fun, quick & definitely enjoyable book.

The second of the Friendship Harbor mystery series was even more fun than the first because the main characters are evolving and new ones are introduced. Already have the third lined up.

Very enjoyable read. I didn't read book 1, but that didn't interfere with my understanding of this story. I also bought the holiday story, "Fa la la la llama," and am looking forward to reading that in a month or two.

This is my first time reading Ms. McMarthy and I really enjoyed this book. I wish I'd started with the first in the series but I don't think it made a difference in the story. I hope to read more of her books, especially this series.

This series is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. Sophie has a great sense of humour and Jack is such a character. Smooth writing, perfect pacing and Sophie’s need to investigate result in an engaging and thoroughly enjoyable story. Now on to book three.

Когда нечего читать и в перерывах между поисками классного чтива - неплохой вариант. Количество 5ти бальных оценок впечатляет, но не поставлю даже четыре, не неудобно, нет.

This one actually had me on the edge of my seat for a bit. These short stories are a little camp, a little mystery, and a lot of fun.
