Chloe S. Flanagan is an author, technical writer, blogger, and graduate of New York University. She enjoys exploring the Christian walk frankly and thoughtfully in her fiction and in her blog, The Candid Corinthian. When she’s not writing Chloe loves music, travel, reading books in all genres, and spending time with family.
I really enjoyed this book! Natalie and Glenn make an unlikely couple; however, when Natalie meets Glenn, and through him, in a slightly round about way, God, look out!! She didn't know a good friend had been praying for her for years. She didn't realize that part of her "problem" was her own expectations and putting words and mannerisms on other people. Once God got a hold of her, she started seeing herself differently, which is exactly what each of us should do, too. God takes us as we are, but then He conforms us to His image, which means everyone around us should see the change in us, and with Natalie, they do! He will do the same for us!! We're continually growing and changing into His image every day we're alive, if only we'll let Him!!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is totally my own.
Changed Somehow is a very inspiring book. I love Natalie’s story. She had been through a lot in her life. As the story processes along we find out what happened in her life. I loved all the changes she went through. When I started reading the book I didn’t know where the story was headed. I love how the story unfolded. I recommend reading this book.
I received an advanced copy of the book from the author. This book review is my own opinion.
This lovely author has a really unique way of getting inside your heart and soul! This is her first Potter's House venture, but she brings us the tale of a character that is so flawed and in need of redemption that it fits this series perfectly! I highly recommend any of Chloe's novels, but if you need a starting off point, jump right in here!
What a beautiful redemption story! This book follows the life of actress Natalie Rivers. As one who has charmed her way into everything, her life comes to a grinding halt when she can't seem to work through a few small parts of the play that she got the lead in. This small issue spirals the rest of her life out of control, leading her to new friends who volunteer to help out troubled teens. Natalie gets pulled in and in the process finds the God who has always loved her. This book shows the powerful story of how the lost are saved and has a beautiful faith thread. There is also a romance in there, but it's not the main point of the story and is sweetly done. Fans of the author's "An Offer of Grace" series will be glad to see a scene from "No Longer a Stranger" from a different perspective, but those who have not read the prior series won't miss anything from not having read those. It was a nice "easter egg" for me though. This book has all the good stuff - great characters, an interesting character-driven plot line, a romance and a superb faith thread. I recommend this one to all fans of Christian fiction! Special thanks to the author for an advanced e-copy of this book. I was not obligated to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
This is the first book I have read by Ms. Flanagan and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Natalie is a young lady that knows how to get what she wants and she doesn't care who she hurts to get it. She is an actress trying to make it big. When she gets an incredible price for an apartment in an Airbnb she has no idea how much her life is about to change. Natalie is what you would call a self absorbed 33 year old that runs home to mom whenever things aren't going her way. I enjoyed getting to know who Natalie was and why she was the way she is, painful secrets are behind the happy face. I also liked getting to know Glenn, he sounds like a real nerd until you get to know him and I enjoyed doing just that. Licha is a beautiful teenager who has a heart that shines for God,, she has an amazing way with words. The characters are like ones you would meet in life, they are living in Manhattan so you have lots of different personalities. A fun read with a tremendous message. I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is totally my own honest opinion.
This book had a bit of a different feel to it than the previous Potters House books I’ve read, but it’s not a bad different. It felt serious, especially as we only have one person’s point of view, and deeply delves into Natalie’s character (she’s a side character from the third book in Flanagan’s other series, and EJ is mentioned in passing in here; he’s a main character in the third book). There are serious looks at faith and our pasts and a wonderful sermonette on Joshua - seriously, that was probably my favorite part!!
I really liked reading this book where the main focus was on the internal - the. Showing in the external- transformation of the main character, rather than the romance. There was romance, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t the main focus of this book.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the first book I have read by this author.
Natalie is a actress trying to get a part on stage. She also has a past that she has tried to forget.
When the part she was auditioning for fell through, she got on a bus and left. She ended up meeting Darla in a restaurant and subsequently a friendship blossomed. Natalie was hired by the owner of the restaurant as a waitress. She thought this would be good to tied her over until she could audition for another part.
She goes to an airB&B and gets a room for a couple of weeks. There she meets one of her neighbours and as a result is hired to cook at a camp for underprivileged children.
During the events she come to know the Lord and wants to take amends for her pst.
It is great story of forgiveness, love and charity.
Ah!! This was one fantastic and captivating story. As the story unfolded I wondered to myself how the author would pull of Natalie's conversion story but with awesome bends and curves the author crafted one of the most beautiful love and second chance story I have ever read. Changed Somehow will really warm your heart and boost your faith in God as being the Master Potter in total control of our lives even in our rebellion.
I recommend to everyone who loves a good story. The language and scenes are fit for teens and young adults.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Natalie Rivers, an aspiring actress, finds herself between plays again. She also has a breakup with her boyfriend and now has to find a place to live with very little money. She lucks into a short-term rental in a nice neighborhood. There she meets Her new neighbor, Glenn, and her life begins to change.
I was a bit concerned at first because it appeared this book was part of a long series; however, each book in the collection is a stand alone. It was a very good read. It is a Christian Fiction so it is clean. It contains no curse words, no violence and no sex scenes. The author is very good with descriptions and you almost feel as if you are watching the action as you read the story. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Christian Romance novels.
This was a good story that showed the power of thinking of things from another person's perspective. We all have things in our past that shape who we have become. Sometimes when we are able to put aside our hurt feelings, we learn to see others with God's love. I enjoyed reading the story of Natalie and Glenn and how God worked in each of their lives to change them into who He wanted them to be. I received a complimentary copy of this book, but have chosen to freely offer my own thoughts and opinions.
Changed Somehow shares the moving transformation of a self-centered, spoiled, and needy woman into someone who could genuinely love. Several times while reading this book, I had tears in my eyes. The descriptions were so vivid you could feel the pain and struggles in Natalie's heart as she wrestled with her past and faced her own destructive choices for the first time. I also enjoyed the characters' connections with Flanagan's previous books. A well-written, enjoyable read.
Transformative story that beautifully displays the difference God makes in our lives. I love the realistic story of Natalie’s story which started when she walked in the flesh, selfishly using others to her finding faith and learning to walk in the Spirit. I love how it showed the emptiness of her before life and her step by step journey. I love the interplay between her being an actor, and of playing a part in life to her learning to find herself and learning she doesn’t have to pretend. I love the clear presentation of the gospel.
Natalie is a wonderful woman who is struggling with her history. When Glenn and Darla come into her life she begins to see all of her past mistakes. Watching Natalie grow into a different person will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful inspirational story. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
Natalie was used to using whatever and whoever to try to make it to the top of the theater world in NYC. Glenn has made it to the top of the corporate world until he finds out how empty it is. He and his friend Darla who has also made a change, Both by God. They invite Natalie to help them for two weeks at a Christian camp for underprivileged teens. How does Chloe Flanagan, the author use her characters to bring a brightness and helpfulness to her romance? ,
This is the first book of Ms. Flanagan’s that I have read. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters are interesting true to life. Change doesn’t happen overnight which is what Natalie finds out. She also realizes that she needs to make some amends. Her friendship with Glenn and Darla opens the door to her heart and the beginning of change for her. I highly recommend this book.
This was such a GREAT book! The main character, Natalie, felt like a real person, and I found myself fully identifying with her through her ups and downs, her painful moments of growth, her setbacks, and her celebrations. I didn't want this book to end! I can't wait to read the rest of what Chloe Flanagan has written.
This was a beautifully scripted story about a young lady, Natalie Rivers, who has lived her life to date by using others. A plethora of characters add dimensions to this newest addition to the Potter's House series. I enjoyed "seeing/reading" the beginning and the continuing growth of Natalie's belief and faith life. A very sweet, clean, Christian based story that I do recommend. VICKI FROM WYOMING
What a wonderful redemption story! It is beautifully written and you can feel all the emotions. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. I highly recommend this book.
Chloe Flanagan has once again pulled me heart and soul into a brand new world. Having never been to New York, seeing the city through Natalie’s eyes brought out a new measure of appreciation for a beautiful cityscape.
Natalie began as one of those characters who you’re not quite sure how you feel about her. She’s selfish and self-centered but seems to have at least a little bit of something left in her heart. When faced with the needs of children, she cannot resist stepping in to help, a trait I found noteworthy and at the center of Natalie’s true heart.
A beautiful story of redemption and God’s abounding love.
If I might suggest a book, I recommend this one for certain. Chloe Flanagan has done a marvelous job of showing God’s great love and His ability to change a heart
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Such a great read. Once I started, there was no way I could stop! The characters were unique and relatable, and the story was superbly well-written. Can't wait for more by this author :)
