From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes a snarky Mystery with a side dish of Romance and two sprinkles of chaos, THE LIBRARIAN’S VAMPIRE ASSISTANT, Book Four . (Yep! These books are STANDALONES. But the more you read, the merrier!)
SHE’S MINE. BUT HAS SHE FORGOTTEN?
A crazy vampire has stolen my librarian. And if that’s not bad enough, it is my fault. Because I, too, am an ancient, deadly vampire, and it was my job to protect her. I failed.
Now, just as I have reason to hope I will get her back, the situation turns into the biggest mystery of my existence.
Apparently, this evil vampire has brainwashed her into thinking she belongs with him. I do not know how. I do not know why. But I will get to the bottom of this and win her back.
Because I am the motherf*!$%ing librarian’s vampire assistant, and she belongs to me. Or, at least she used to?

Mimi lives with her extremely patient husband (“Be right there! Just one more page, honey!”), two pirates-in-training (their boys), and their three spunky dragons (really, just very tiny dogs with big attitudes) Snowy, Mini, and Mack, in the vampire-unfriendly state of Arizona.
The plot thickens, the humor runs rampant, the egos are huge and the insanity continues as Mimi Jean Pamfiloff brings back the hot, the quirky and the insane vampires as Michael Vanderhorst gets hot onto the trail of his missing librarian. Buckle up, hang on tight and get ready for the unexpected, totally unexpected and the Holy crap! THAT was unexpected!
Get ready to laugh out loud, even in the face of obvious vampire pain as MJP puts her wicked imagination to paper and even steals a page or two for herself and her fans! What a ride! What a love story! What a comedy of errors! What a fabulous read!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Just like all of the Librarian’s Vampire Assistant books before it, number 4 was hilarious. It was a wild romp through the country, filled with snarky comments, crazy scenarios, and self-deprecating humor. Mimi’s books are all a carnival ride of an experience, and I’m left feeling exhilarated and tickled pink.
In this book, Michael, the four hundred year old vampire extraordinaire, is still on his search for his librarian. After having been stolen by Mr. Nice at the end of book 3, Miriam has been gone now for five years when she is found in Forks, Washington. Yes, that Forks. But despite the dreams Michael has harbored for their reunion, things with him and Miriam do not go smoothly.
It is impossible to tell anymore of the story without giving away crucial plot twists, but this book was a thoroughly enjoyable one. Mimi knows she’s writing a crazy tale, and she pokes good natured fun at herself, her fan groups, her other books and pop culture vampire lure. Nothing is sacred. Michael in disguise, commenting that “As for my own scent, I have covered myself in Drakkar Noir. It is one of the few colognes that are so potent it can clear a room” had me snorting out loud and reading on to get more of these little snarky tidbits.
The summary for this book states that these can all be read as stand alones, but I think it would be difficult to fully appreciate the story if that was the case. However, as one long saga, it is hilarious. Even if you’re not into paranormal, if you’re looking for a series that is just pure fun, this is the one for you.
So here we are back in the insanity of Mimi's brain and I honestly don't know how to begin to review this book. Ok it's the fourth instalment and as it begins Michael is on the hunt for his own personal librarian who was whisked away by Nice who is a Vampire who seriously needs therapy. Michael hasn't the time or the inclination to carry on as the Vampire King but the Vampires are restless so someone has to lead but can Michael find a suitable replacement ? Hmm my lips and sealed but expect the Royal Guard to get a rather chilly new uniform ! Although that's the last thing to worry about because Michael gets a tip that leads him to his librarian but is it possible she actually wants to be with Nice ? This is a crazy story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with madness, mayhem and egos that simply beggar belief. I had no idea what direction it would go but boy is the ending a huge surprise. This series isn't over and the ever uber confident, arrogant yet strangely young Michael is about to get a very rude awakening because mild spoiler everyone there's a new Vampire in town who could slay all the competition ! This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I hate to say it, but this was not a standalone. It was advertised as such, but from the start it was clear I was thrown in the middle of a story. Sure, there were numerous information dumps at the start to try and get me caught up, but it failed to help. I was still in the middle of a story and it resulted in me being unable to get into it.
After this one, I doubt I will be going back and reading the prior books. It was trying too hard and I did not care. There was no humour (at least, I think it was going for humour), it was too on the nose, and the characters got on my nerves. The voices did not go with the characters at all – I was being told one thing and seeing another.
As so many love Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, I will give another of the author’s books a read. However, it will not be one in this series.
I knew it! Okay, so I didn't know ALL of it but I did ponder on 2 and were right. Everything else was a rollercoaster ride from left field. But I loved every minute of it and devoured this book in one day. It's hard to list all the amazing things about this book without spoilers but I'll try. First, I loved all the different vampire related Easter eggs both hidden and acknowledged throughout the book. I also crack up when references to Mimi's life and her fan group are made. The inside jokes make me lol and it just shows how much she really does appreciate and enjoy mingling with her fans. My favorite thing about her books is that they NEVER go as you expect them to. I hate predictability and cliche story lines. Her books always stand out in my memory.
I just love love love this series! It’s a quick read, I finished it in a few hours. Great pacing and not one dull moment. Action, mystery, and surprise. Add vampires to the mix and you get the perfect combination! Can’t wait to read Book 5!
Poor Michael. Can anything go right for the Vampire King? From kidnappings to betrayals to nicknames, he just can't catch a break. So what's Mikeypoo gonna do? Convince his librarian that they were meant to be together of course. But it doesn't go as planned? Why? So many mysteries!
Pamfiloff has filled this book with twists and turns, humor and a whole lot of "What!!!??? She didn't!" The Easter eggs go flying left and right as if Pamfiloff just can't help herself. There's references to Twilight, Nancy Drew, Norman Bates, the movie Stayin Alive and Cosmo. And those references are very Funny. All the characters you love are back too, as well as leather pants and a certain popular vampire book series.
I always learn a new phrase from Pamfiloff 's books and this one is no exception. "Globe wallowing." I'm going to take the liberty to create my own urban dictionary definition: To travel across the globe, country to country, attempting to distance yourself from sadness regarding missing librarians. Or: To wallow in the pits of despair while traveling to forget a librarian.
The dialogue is silly and fantastic. A taste:
“Our anniversary is the day after tomorrow.”I “Hold on. But you were married around August, yes? It’s December.” “He goes by the Aztec calendar.”
“Well, as I live and breathe! Is this the Vanderhorst?” a spunky, young voice greets me. “The assassin extraordinaire? The one and only true king besides Elvis? Voted hottest dead man alive?”
“Politics today are very confusing.” “Not at all. All you have to do is pick a topic, any topic, and get outraged. You don’t even have to understand the facts.” Her eyes go wide with delight. “Then you just post mean &%$ on Twitter.” She slides behind the steering wheel and shuts her door.
So much happens in this installment of the series, but even with all the craziness, it all works. And I never saw any of it coming. Me, a reader of 300 Books a year. It's a yummy story that keeps the Vampire King Michael interesting and evolving even after 4 books.
That's a big fat NO!!! Bloody Hell Miss Mimi what are you doing to us, your faithful followers!? I'm not sure if I can trust you from here on out! you damn near kilt me with this one! I laughed out loud, I gasped, I cried out, "what?" (on more than one occasion!) , and I fell for Michael even more! Not bad for someone who didn't really like him that much in book one.
Thank you for the ARC copy, keep them coming! I feel very privileged to have been able to read this full series as ARC's so my thanks go to all involved!
The saga of Michael's and Miriam's love continues and becomes more twisted in this, the fourth installment in this crazy story, where Mimi includes herself as a character. (I love that by the way) we are now five years on in the craziness, and Michael has spent that time searching for Miriam after she was taken by Nice, who continues to grow more crazed every day. Michael is still his bumbling self, making absolutely ridiculous mistakes, and Miriam is lying . . . but why??? Hold on to your hats when you find out why, and what happens when the truth comes out! Dear gods! Mimi, what are you thinking!?
No spoilers here, but this is the best Librarian book in the series! Roll on #5, and maybe #6???? You'll understand it when you read the book!!!
MJP gives us more crazy, hilarious kick@$$ librarian's assistant!
Michael wants his librarian back. She's been gone for five years. He's been taking care of her beloved library while following leads on Mr Nice sightings. And then Lulu tells him Nice has been sighted. And he's off to get her back. Only it isn't so simple.
And there's a really big surprise.
Really, really big!
Cozy mystery with crazy centuries old vampire bad guy, snarky, sarcastic vampire hero, a brainwashed (?) librarian, a vampire queen, chocolate, Minnesota, Forks (yes, that Forks), more Fanged Love, mistaken identity...
Mimi gives us yet another winding, twisty, convoluted, insane, awesome story.
I can't wait for book 5.
I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
Holy Moly. This series just keeps getting better and better with so many twists and turns that you never see what is coming next.
This book happens five years after the previous book and Michael is not quite the man that he was. When Lula come to him with news , it changes him forever in so many ways.
This book comes dual point of view, must most of the beginning is from Michaels view and we see the torment that he goes through.
I cannot wait to see what happens in book five and if Michael manages to change again.
This was such an amazing series. I loved all the antics that had me laughing and screaming at the book that was so beautifully written. I read, ate (really fast) and continued reading this book until I finished it. It was that good. Loved all the characters especially Michael the sexy, fearless vampire.
A great read. Surprising twist and turns leading to an ending begging for LVA5. Michael and Miriam are two of Mimi’s great characters. Number 42 does not disappoint.
The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant, Part 4 is marketed as a stand-alone cozy mystery but I wouldn’t skip the previous 3 for anything. For those familiar with the author’s work, you are only denying yourself the witty quips, the clever plot twists, and the devious nature of Pamfiloff’s mind and those “Damn it, Mimi!” moments we all love so much. For those who are new to the author, you can pick up this installment and catch up to the story line with no confusion but you will be missing out on some really great parts of the story that involve laughter, mystery, and WTF moments that really get our reader hearts pumping.
Michael Vanderhorst is missing his Librarian. Lulu is missing her best friend. Mr. Nice is still missing his sanity. The story continues with its witty humor, mystery, and the amazing thrills of Mimi’s evil, evil, devious plot twists. As someone who has read the previous three installments, I loved shouting out “I knew it!” at that sweet spot. As someone who knows to brace herself for those more shocking plot twists, I still fired off a series of texts to my fellow booktart & sweetheart – swearing up a storm and threatening violence to my device. I can’t tell you exactly what I put in that text but my own version Mr. Nice wanted to come out and play. Her exact response was, “Well it is not a good one without that reaction”. She is right though. The best books always elicit at least one moment that leaves you swearing at the story, the author, and anyone who tries to get near you before you finish the book. This book does exactly that and right when you are ready to forgive the author and characters for their evil ways – there is one more twist and the promise of even more to come.
Actual Rating: 4.5 Stars See the full review at HarlequinJunkie
Book 4 in The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant series was a turbulent but completely exhilarating ride. You won’t believe the plot twists, the uncovered secrets, or the lengths our hero Michael went through for his beloved librarian.
Oh, Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. *shakes fist at the sky* The things you do to your readers all in the name of entertainment. Sigh… But seriously, I’m used to plots that go in unexpected directions and characters who are unique and lovably quirky in MJP’s work. But LVA4? This was crazy exciting and definitely a game changer for Michael and, well, everyone involved. SO much happened. And everything–I do mean everything–was turned upside down by the end. Read More
I adore the humor in these stories. This story is fin to read because it pokes fun at itself yet remains engaging. It's funny and yearning, the characters are full of life (even though they are vampires) and flawed. I am excited to see what the next chapter in this series brings
Well that just happened. It's a surprising turn of events for Michael that will have you yelling at your book. I kept repeating my MJP mantra "Nothing is as it seems", because really Mimi likes to screw with us that way and then blame it on the characters (I say in a tongue in cheek manner).
In all honesty Michael's dated almost humourless attitude is hysterical and he's so oblivious at times it makes his first person narration even better.
This is technically not a cliffhanger but it's also not a HEA, yet, it does leave a wide open ending for the next book, squeee! I loved this book it is my favorite out of the series so far. Mimi will have you laughing out loud and will have you cursing at Michael, Mr. Nice....Lula... well just about everyone; it's all in good fun and one hell of a story. I stayed up half the night reading it I couldn't put it down.
Just when I think we might possibly reach the end of Michael and Miriam, Ms. Pamfiloff kicks it up a notch and now things are amiss for Michael and his Librarian (or is she still)? Life for Michael is anything but ordinary, trying to keep up with all things vampire and king, having to look for Miriam, eventually finding her only to discover things aren't right with her and what she believes is her reality. I can't wait to see how things progress when the next book is released!
Another incredible read in this steadily growing series! The mysteries have you craving more knowledge than ever before in this fourth installment! The moment I picked this book up, I couldn't put it down. The intricate webs the author weaves throughout all of these books truly leaves the reader wanting to know what happens with each turn of the page. In order to truly understand and appreciate this book, you should definitely read the ones before. I highly recommend this series and this author.
What did I just read? Omg talk about unexpected twist and turns that will completely blindside you and leave you shocked. I cam not tell you how many times I said "Oh no Mimi! Dont go there," "wt[," and ofcourse the very catchy "mystery, mystery!" The Librarians Vamipre Assistant is a joy to read. Each book is unique, intertaining and filled with twist and turns. This is the type of story that could go on forever and you would never tire or it. Every book from this series has been a fulfilling escape from day to day madness and will leave you smiling for hours.
This well-written storyline has love, loss, heartbreak, deception, betrayal, sacrifice, and a determination to harden the heart and not allow any feelings. The main characters are developed, and awesome, our Hero has been through hell along with our heroine. Any chance at a HEA will be hard won. I look forward to the next book in the series. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
I couldn’t wait to get started on the forth instalment of this exciting series, and I wasn’t disappointed. From the first page until the last I was immensely impressed and intrigued with the intricate web the plot has developed into. It’s an addictive story, very cleverly written which leaves the reader gasping and yearning for more. Can be read as a stand alone, but to fully appreciate and follow the story, better I think if read with the previous books. I highly recommend this novel!
Mystery! Mystery! Mystery! Michael is a hysterical narrator as we see things as he looses his librarian. Honestly if I could give this book more than five stars I would. A terrific fast paced read that you will want to read through as fast as possible and then you will wish you read it slower. Or that it was longer. Or that the next one was out already. Warning this is not your typical vampire book. It is way better. Have fun. Then you can always read the series again.
This book was one amazing rollercoaster ride. The is mimi jean Pamfiloff best yet. Loved everything about this book. Michael is one sexy and strong vampire and will stop at nothing to protect the people he loves. I'm not going to say anymore I will not spoil it. This is action packed. I got given a ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. I highly recommend this book.
Another fangtastic installment to this hilarious series. So much snark, so many twists that keep you on your toes and guessing, this book is a laugh-a-minute paranormal romance that will “suck” you in and keep you turning the pages until you reach the end. Another highly recommended read by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff.
Loved reading the mesmerizing and engaging paranormal story. When Michael's endless search for his librarian, Miriam, has no results, Lulu finds a clue to Miriam's whereabouts. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written story, and riveting the reader from the beginning of the story until the end of the story full of anticipation for the next book in the series.
Michael looks for Miriam for years and just when he gives up, she is found and what ensues is a pretty good story, the book drags in a few spots and it is funny as usual in others. There are surprises around the corner and major changes to the plot. Be ready for book five as soon as you are done!
