Fast paced mysteries

An excellent series of mystery and well written books.
Well drawn characters and a narrative that was believable and yet left you wanting more in every book.
I like the way Tyrone Swift character develops over a period of time. A good read.

A fabulous author who writes excellent stories. On the one hand it’s good that there are side story lines going on but on the other, they can be a bit of a drag. The ongoing storyline regarding Cedric’s son, Oliver, is just annoying and whilst the relationships with his ex, Ruth, and now recent ex, Nora, might be representative off how life is, I’m finding them a drag and need a rest before I carry on with the series.

I had a chance to read book six but did not want to start in the middle of the series, so I found the whole set on KU. I read them in between books over the last year. Each one held my attention and were strong enough stories to keep you entertained. I was mot surprised to see how the series ended and felt that Ty should have sacked Nora sooner. She was too temperamental. I really like Kris as his partner. Ruth is just an overall bitch and I think I shed that he had not been so drawn to her and am sad that they had a child together. Ty was great at uncovering the truth behind mysteries that happened in the past. Even when it was uncomfortable for those who hired him. Great reads I would recommend them to others who enjoy this genre.

DNF'd at 3% (page 49 of 1452)

Sadly, I found Tyrone completely unlikeable. He spent more time worrying about his affair with his newly-married ex, than about the case. There were a lot of surplus characters. A lot of unlikely incidents. A lot of overly describing, with floral language, scenes that have NO importance, while skimming past events I'd rather read about.

Some of the interviews and interrogations were rambling and disjointed, often too blunt at times. The writing style tends to overemphasise pointless events and under-explore important scenes, as well as taking forever to get to the point. Tyrone isn't so much an investigator as good at talking to people, because it's everyone else under the sun who gives him the 'clues' and information about the case.

A few annoying problems:
- I found the whole Dr sequence seriously questionable - what Dr will ever, ethically, hand out "free sample" antihistamines to a person she has never met before? She doesn't know his medical history at all.
- Tyrone's thought process are as frustrating as when I read A Meditation on Murder in that every woman he meets is in-some-way "attractive". Women are more than their looks, and it was disappointing that this was almost his first thought about every woman he met, when this is written by a woman.
- The whole encounter with Rachel made NO sense. Tyrone hadn't been following or investigating her, but she still ran him the riot act, in the middle of the street, spilling all her dirty laundry all over the place. Seriously illogical.

I'm sorry to say that even a mysterious disappearance of a woman with no reason to disappear wasn't enough to make me finish the book. I didn't get the chance to care enough about the case to warrant continuing.

Bonus points for: POC and LGBT rep.

DNF @11% (finished book 1 in this box set)

Story was lost amid all the personal drama. Really didn't need the minutiae of listing every single meal/ snack/drink etc.
Rambling descriptions and tangents on unimportant/ unrelated things.
But mostly it was the whole tangled shenanigans with Ruth that put off from the minute she showed up. Made him seem weak and pathetic and lose major integrity points too boot..
I stuck it out for the first book to see if he managed to grow a pair at some point. sadly not the case.

so not for me

Don’t rent the box set from Kindle Unlimited

Don’t rent the box set because it becomes too much of a good thing. I really enjoyed the first few books but by the last book I hated Tyrone Swift. It didn’t help that the last book had a really lame plot. I would recommend just reading the books one at a time interspersed with other books. On a positive note, I watched camogie on YouTube and it looks like wicked fun if you’re young.

Started good but got boring

Books 1 to5 were excellent good storylines which kept you interested. Book 6 was not as gripping. Book 7 really was a disappointment. The major problem was the continual referring back to the previous characters and storylines so in this book you get it from the previous six books which completely clouded the storyline and in the end gave up half way through. Swift was a good character but will not be reading anymore.

Swift but not always

I have enjoyed the Ty Swift series. He has a tenacious attitude that you know will get him through all of the traumas he faces both in his personal life and his investigations. As you read through the series, you sense he will probably never find true happiness unless it happens to be sculling on the Thames. Some great stories, great characters, and enjoyable to read. I'm just frustrated with Swifts acceptance of what life deals him.

I have just read these books from 1 to 7 unable to stop reading them. I read for pleasure and although I enjoy 'crime' I am not a fan of psychcological thrillers so these books were just right for me. I agree with other reviewers that books 6 and 7 were the weakest and I did loose track of some of the characters throughout the series but this could be because of the nature of the genre, or more probably my advanced years!

Captivating reads

I really enjoyed these stories, particularly the format of several novels packed together. It was very hard to stop reading about Tyrone and his investigations. He fully developed all the characters so I felt that I knew them. I was disappointed when I finished the last one.

While each book is a stand alone mystery, they are best read in order so as to keep up with the background story of Tyrone Swift. Whilst the whole series is well worth reading, I found it best to read one at a time with something else in between, otherwise you find Tyrones trials and tribulations a little overbearing.

Amazing mysteries

I liked the main character Swift. The stories were all unique. I especially enjoyed Swift's hobby of rowing to sort his mind out on the cases. I will miss Cedric, because he was such a colorful character and family to Swift. Thanks for the great books. Looking forward to another series.

I just finished reading this entire series again. This is an author that I wish had written many more books. I was devastated to find out that she had passed away.

The main character in the Tyrone Swift books is a private detective who makes solving mysteries so interesting. His personal life is fascinating, and he has enough traumas in his life to seem like a real person.

Compelling stories with believable characters. Relationships change and develop over the series of books and keep the reader involved and invested. Loved the series.

An excellent British Detective series!

Tyrone Swift is a very human P.I. Not the hard bitten sort.
He suffers stabbing, near drowning, assault and batteries while untangling the webs of clues and lies. He is successful but at least once, the truth is buried for the greater good.

Hope it’s not the end

Really enjoyed the Swift investigations. They included many different adventures and Ty’s way of handling things. My only regret is not finding out more about him and Branna. Hopefully there will be more to come.

Good books ... there is overlap where you continue to learn about recurring characters which keeps the stories familiar and yet still have a new mystery with every book. I've already purchased the 3 stand-alone follow-up Tyrone Swift Mysteries and look forward to reading each of them.
