In all his years on the force, Rex Holland has never seen anything so brutal. This wasn’t the work of amateurs. Such evil knows a pitch-black spring. Perhaps the bloody message left behind does bear some truth. With only a rookie on which to rely, Rex must unravel the killing spree before it’s too late. The hunt will soon reveal a cosmic battle old as time itself . . . but casting light on demons can cause men to slip into darkness.Ancient orders clash for control. A powerful relic betokens bedlam. Wishes may be granted, but the devil’s in the details . . .
From the first chapter, seriously, I was hooked. This is a crime-mystery with a supernatural twist. A veteran cop and a rookie have serious trouble in unexpected ways with pure evil. The book starts out with a little horror aspect, but then the cops try and figure it out. This was an excellent book. A mask people put on thinking it will give them power, makes the person who wears it do some very bad things.
I don't think it's really scary. Some demon (unseen) sends this mask to people who request it (kind of devil groupies). They put it on thinking great things will happen, but they pursue dark desires that always ends badly. There are a few gruesome murder scenes, but I don't think it's too bad. Kind of a shorter novel, but long enough.
