Welcome to Rose Haven Academy, a place where extraordinary abilities are the norm.
I’m Juniper Nevels, a magnet for things that go bump in the night. A freak among freaks, you might say. Everyone around me has these amazing abilities; empathy, healing, telepathy. But I get to see beyond the veil. Lucky, right?
Things start looking up for me when teams are determined. It seems like fate when my best friends Dexter and Sterling are assigned with me, along with the sweet and sexy twins, Asher and Alex.
The RH Academy doesn’t normally assign co-ed teams, and I’m beginning to see why. One girl and four hot guys? What could go wrong?
Our lives flip upside down when I bring everyone on an unsanctioned ghost hunt. Something evil is lying dormant in the underbelly of the dorm and we accidentally wake it up. Of course, it’s not just your average spirit, but one that’s out for blood. As the presence gets stronger, the veil weakens, magnifying the danger we’re facing.
My team and I must come together to end his reign of terror before we lose not only our spot on the RH Forces but possibly our lives.
The real question is when the shadows call, can I resist?
Juniper's Sight is a RH Dark Academy Romance with mmfmm. It is intended for audiences 18+ and may have content some readers may find triggering. It was originally published as Into the Shadows, but has been fully rewritten, revised, and edited! Enjoy!
Jarica is an American author. She prefers writing paranormal and fantasy books. When she isn't writing she is playing her xbox with her husband and fellow nerd. She has two crazy boys who make writing a challenge, but one she gladly accepts.
This book took me by surprise. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. I think that all of the guys balance out well with Jun (Juniper) and that the overarching mystery kept me hooked.
This is about 5 people (Dex, Sterling, Asher, Alex and Jun) teaming up at this paranormal "special" school that takes people with heightened abilities, like the sight, mind reading, and other supernatural powers and form teams. Dex, Sterling, and Jun are all friends from childhood and they want to be teamed up together since they know how to best use their abilities with one another, but each team has to have 5 people, so that is where Asher and Alex come along.
Throughout this journey Jun, who has the sight (so she can see in to the veil) is experiencing some really serious demonic energy, and two of the guys on her team (Sterling and Alex) don't always believe her. It's hard to believe something you can't see, which I get, but I always love watching those ghost shows, one of my guilty pleasures so this was right up my ally!
The Guys: -Dex (Dexter) Alexander: Retrocognition/Postcognition. Jun's best friend since pre-k. The chill guy, one who Jun goes to when nightmares are bad. He can read her mind, mainly just hers. -Sterling Johnston: Superior Intelligence and Psychic Surgery, aka Specs, Jun's best friend since grade school. The nerd of the group, has a Superman/Clark Kent Vibes -Asher Van Dyn: Empath, Twin to Alex. He has had a crush on Jun for a long time since they have had some classes together. He fit seamlessly in with the group when they formed and had a great connection with Jun. -Alex Van Dyn: Remote Viewing, Twin to Asher. doesn't like Jun or this group at first because it wasn't with his Pilot friends. The real enemies to lovers situation right here. You can tell he is fighting his feelings for Jun really hard, but it progresses naturally.
This book does end in a cliffhanger, which sucks, but the bright side is that the next book comes out in about 10 days, so hopefully I can remember what happened or read a lot of spoiler reviews haha.
This is to help me remember what happened so I don't have to reread the whole book, but the book was good enough that I might.
This s a book about ghost and demons and all things that go bum in the night. Juniper is a supernatural and see can see dead people she has two BFF Dexter and Sterling who are alway by her side especially when she has nightmares and they get to much for juniper. They are about to be put into teams to become an elite team and to live Together as a team of 5 and they will be with each for forever . the guys are put with twins Alex and Asher how there sort off no from the school but will they jell as a team.
Juniper is attached to all the guys and sparks fly between them all as they decide to have a relationship with each other expect Alex is not on board with this even thought he is attracted to juniper. He makes is feeling no about the fact he doesn’t want to be with them
Things start to get worst for the group after they go late night gosht hunting and they release a sprit who wants juniper and will do anything to get her it escalates very quickly they go and speak to there Rh but she brush them off so it is up to the group to find away to stop the ghost that wants her will they be able to find out how to stop him
This is a good story and is hot and steamy with a darks side and it ends on a cliffhanger and am definitely looking forward to the second book to find out what happens next
I will start off saying this isn’t my usual kind of book. I usual don’t do supernatural often but this book might change my mind. I absolutely adore these amazing characters. I spend the entire book not being able to decide if I like Alex and if I have a favorite of the guys and being scared for Jun . This book had everything you could possibly want in a rh and supernatural book. If you like those kind of books it’s a not to be missed book.
This group of fun takes you on a ride. Adventuring through so much of the unexpected. Laughter, fear, love, heat, and much exploration into the unknown. I can't wait for book two to see where Jun and her sexy men take us...
!CLIFFHANGER WARNING! I had some issues with this book, but I gave book 2 a try before I ended up dropping the series. This review first though.
Well, the idea of the harem seemed to get brought up and agreed to (except for one person) way too easily and quickly. I get the MC and her long-time friends, but the crush from Asher felt somewhat shallow to me. Not that he's shallow but that I didn't really feel how he felt.
And then there were some issues with the MC. I couldn't quite tell if the she was TSTL or if the author was just writing her inconsistently. Maybe both. Maybe the inconsistency came from having 2 authors. Idk. So the MC has the second sight (which she never has to activate since it's always just there until she suddenly has to activate it), and some gruesome ghosts she's seen gave her recurring nightmares that leave her screaming in her sleep. So naturally she likes to go visit haunted houses to give herself more nightmare fodder. She's not even going to help ghosts cross over or for any reason resembling duty or altruism. She's apparently just as curious as someone who DOESNT have concrete proof that this stuff actually exists. So she's EXCITED to learn that her dorm was built over an old asylum and has a hallway with a very dark aura. Because she just wants to go poke around and look. ??? And then we get this lovely quote: "I should have known better than to walk into a haunting without researching, it's one of the first things they taught me. But it's also something I can't control, you know. I can't just turn off this ability. If something pulls me in, it's like an itch I can't scratch. I have to know more." I've seen her voluntarily seek out 2 hauntings so far, and she didn't research either of them despite having plenty of time to do so for both since she planned the explorations and they weren't just spur of the moment things. So her argument about it being a compulsion doesn't have anything to do with anything.
And then the worldbuilding.
1. Why do they have pilot training? How does a presumably small college town have it's own air force without any human governments knowing?
2. Why does this tactical college that seems to care very little about its students beyond their utility and their gifts have a non-magical art class?
3. How do the characters' gifts actually work. Like, is there a distance limit on how close people need to physically be before the telepathy or empathy will work?
And then on top of all that we got a highly unnecessary cliff hanger. It felt like the author didn't know how to end the book so they just chose the end of the chapter that had some suspense going for it and called it a day. Luckily book 2 is already out, so that takes some of the sting out of it. But really, book starts seconds after the end of book 1, so ending the book there really didnt have a purpose other than the cliff hanger.
What can I say but WOW, I loved everything about this story! Jun is such a sassy, strong FMC but also knows when she needs help, and that's where the men come in. Each one brings something different to the team and helps Jun in different but necessary ways, which is why they are perfect for each other! Now Alex oh my broody, smart mouth, ass of a man is the most difficult of them all lol but dayuum is he sexy, well they all are smoking and bring sooo much heat but Alex just gives me the chills in a good way!! Ok back on track.. The writing and they way they wrote this story again did the original story justice for sure and has been one of my favorite stories so far for 2020!! I truly recommend reading this book it has everything you need and I couldn't put it down I was hooked completely now I warn you Miss Jarica (Rowan said to blame you) gave us a cliffy that made me want to scream but I can't wait to read book 2 and find out what happens with Jun and her boy's and if Alex finally comes to his senses!!
I never got the chance to read into the shadows but I heard such good things about it, when I heard it was being re-written with a different twist I knew I had to read it.
First I'm a sucker for anyone with purple hair and add in her goth appearance and I'm loving this MC. She is super sassy but cares so much around the people around her. The guys in the book are all very much different and easy to tell apart. I will say that I did forget what Alex power was by the time it was mentioned towards the end of the book. This book is not your typical academy which I loved. You got some talk of classes and professor but the main focus is on the group.
This is a Y/A book trying to be grown up and falling short. I found it a bit ridiculous that they go searching for ghosts but act surprised and terrified when the find them. Every single time. We are told this whole academy is full of gifted people, no one bats an eyelid when healing is done instantaneously but seeing ghosts is not believed????
This is not my normal thread because the authors seem to watch Ghost hunters and decide to write about it, this is very firmly in the same style. Even the bits trying to infuse sexual tension to take away from a boring script add nothing aside from making it even more juvenile.
This book is full of spooks and nail biting moments, but it's also cute and sexy as all get out. Juniper is sassy, strong and unfortunately being haunted by evil. Dex and Sterling are her 2 besties that have morphed into more. Then there's the twins Asher and Alex, the sweet one and the jerk respectively. Somehow though they all belong together on this team and I get the feeling will need each other to save Juniper. Waiting on the edge of my seat with that ending....
I loved reading Juniper's Sight, at first it was odd, but it gets tons better! Fair warning this book is creepy, in fact, this is the creepiest book I've read as of yet. Jarica James and Rowan Thalia do an amazing job of writing in such a way that you get chills upon reading. With every page the creepy mysterious factor grows further, making you never want to put it down. Oh! And cliffhanger beware! Because Juniper's Sight ends in a cliff hanger from hell (pun intended), but is totally worth it! I HIGHLY recommend that you read this now!
Once you start reading this book you will not be able to put this book down until the last page is read. It moves along at an amazing pace making for an easy read. You will fall in love with these characters there is no doubt about it. You will want to know more about them and to be there for them no matter what happens. This story will grab you and keep you reading from the beginning all the way till the end. This book needs to be read, no doubt about it.
Normally don't read scary demon/ghost story lines but these amazing authors have definitely caught my attention and realed me in craving more. Kept me guessing and laughing but in the end screaming at the cliff hanger but completely worth it. I love juniper and her relationship with Alex is the funniest love/hate relationship. Dex, sterling and Asher are awesome and I love them so much. Cannot wait for book 2
So good! Spooky, steamy, and packed with adventure! I loved the magic these lovely ladies created with Juniper and her men! She was a very loveable character that you can't help but fall in love with. This book definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat and might possibly make you sleep with the lights on for a night or two! Ok it's not that scary or maybe it is you'll have to read to see, but it is great and I can't wait for more!
This book is awesome! It will freak you the hell out, but you will love it! The characters are fantastic. I love Juniper and her guys too! This is what I consider a med-fast burn, and the sexy times are HOT! The storyline is amazing. This writing duo did a phenomenal job with this one! I honestly cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
Juniper's Sight is packed with spine-tingling adventure and enough steam to get your blood pumping. These two authors complement each other well to bring you a seamless storyline. While it leaves you on one hell of a cliffhanger, the characters and story are full of life. Definitely worth the time!
4.5 This is a rewrite and it has fixed a lot of the problems that were there before. They are a bit older, in a supernatural university setting and all them have abilities now. Before it was just early college with only Juniper having her ability. The creep factor is higher and it just makes much more sense
Juniper sees dead people. She attends an academy for the supernatural gifted. She is placed with a team to train to be elite. Their new dorm is built over an Asylum for the criminally insane. Evil lives there and is coming for her. This is a dark Paranormal Romance which may have triggers or cause nightmares .
I love that this book has a bit of everything when it comes to romance. Beat friends to lovers. An almost insta love connection. A kind of enemies to lovers thing going on. Add in some quirks from the MC. Risk of bullying from other students. Protective guys. Steamy scenes. And evil spirits & you had me hooked!
Not sure if I’m liking this horror / paranormal RH...but it has the makings of something that hopefully comes to fruition in book two. Interesting characters and plot line. Could do with a minor copy edit tho, but don’t let that put you off. Good 3.75 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jun can see spirits. But that’s not all that’s haunting her new dorm. When she and her newly formed team explore the haunted basement they wind up letting something dark and malevolent out. Soon they start experiencing it as well. Is this a test or will it be too dangerous for them? Good character growth and spooky atmosphere!
Wow. I loved the original 2 part books. But this? This was amazing the rewrite is even better and I’m so surprised because I didn’t think the author could’ve made it better. Count me so wrong this ending has me on the edge of my seat and I can’t wait for the next book!
This was an amazing start to a new series. A good plot with fantastic characters with different personalities that mesh together perfectly. O can't wait for the next book.
Another great first installment. I barley get reaing time these days, so i love every book that hold my interest. Juniper was as unusual a character as her name. I loved the gothic feel of the story and the guys and I cannot wait to see where the series goes in the future.
Wasn’t sure I would like the new version on this story as I really liked the original but I am glad to say that I really like this version! Thank you for Junipers story! Can’t wait for more! ❤️
This story sucks you in, keeping you reading long past time to stop. The characters are well developed and tou fall in love with them, even theor snark.
Rowan and Jarica you are both amazing! I love the rewrite! I am so excited to read more and see what happens next! The characters are amazing and the storyline is fantastic! So excited for more!
