She forgot something on the way to the courthouse …
Sophia Abella has a good life, even if she is a little stuck. Not quite single, not quite married, she keeps men at a safe distance. But when her Marine husband returns to town and takes the job of chief of police, it might finally be time to get that paper work done once and for all. After all, most of her family already thinks she’s divorced.
They’re not actually, in the fullest sense of the word … divorced.
Years ago, Riley Jacobs chose the Marine Corps over his wife and has regretted his decision every day since. But once a Marine always a Marine, and he’ll use every tactical advantage he has to get Sophia to realize that she’s the only one for him.
This sweet, at times heartbreaking , clean romance will touch your hearts. Sophia Abella, having quit college and recently turning 21 and Riley Jacobs, a Marine on leave, met one night in a bar, fell in love and got married weeks later. Sophia was not prepared for life as a military wife, especially with all of Riley’s deployments, and when she has feelings of abandonment and not being enough, she returns home heartbroken. Everyone assumed she had processed the divorce papers, not true. She somehow couldn’t move forward or even say the word divorce. Six years later, Riley is back in town, now the town’s police chief. He wants a second chance with Sophia. They still love each other, but can they overcome the obstacles they face? Can Sophia let go of the hurt? Can Riley convince her they were made for each other? You will fall in love with both of these characters. It’s a story not only about love, but also about family, hope, maturity and new beginnings. Another winner by this talented author. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is a sweet and clean romance that will surely to touch your heart. Sophia and Riley met, fell in love, and married years ago while Riley was on leave from the Marines. As time went on, Sophia could not handle being the wife of a Marine and started to feel abandoned. She returns home and everyone assumes she has filed for divorce, but in fact hasn't. Six years later, Riley comes back and wants a second chance. They both still love each other, but can they make it work? This story will really give your heartstrings a tug. You can't help but shed a few tears. It's a very well-written story that I really enjoyed reading. I definitely recommend you give it a try.

Maria Michaels has written a -star book. Sophia and Riley were married until she felt like he chose the Marines over her when he signed up for 1 more deployment without talking to her about it beforehand. She goes back home to Starlight Hill and tries to move forward. Now years later she is running her family restaurant when he walks in. She wants to know why he is there and he tells her that he is the new Chief of Police of Starlight Hill. Things do not go well for him at first. Sophia is at home when she sees him walk in the house next door to hers. There are too many feelings that Sophia has for Riley and hate is the top of the list for now. Riley has never gotten over Sophia and he wants her back but he is going to have a hard time proving it to her. Will Sophia give Riley another chance or will she give him the divorce papers she has had for a while? Can Riley prove to Sophia that she is the one for him or will he lose her for good? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

This story will break your heart at the start but leave you with hope at the end.
Sophia and Riley's journey is not an easy one. Riley is in the military, which is a hard life, especially for the those that are left behind when their love ones are on deployment. Riley and Sophia met and married weeks later. When Riley leaves for deployment, Sophia 's emotions are everywhere. Year past Sophia is back at home, Riley has returned, can he and Sophia have what they once had?
This story will tore at my heart as I went on an emotional ride that left me spent.

Wonderful second chance romance with Sophia and Riley who are married but have not seen each other in years. They married soon after knowing each other and they were young so when he choose to stay in the Marines instead of starting a family with her she goes home and he deploys. Now he is out of the military and has become police chief of her small town and is determined to get her back but everyone in town thinks she is divorced but she never could follow through. This is a cute story and I loved the characters.
A sweet clean romance story. The story flows well, the characters are engaging and fit well together and have a great connection. A enjoyable read for a quite afternoon.

This is the sixth book in the series but it can be read as a stand-alone. In fact, this book takes place several years after the for last book. Scott Turlock makes multiple appearances as do some of the wives. You really don't have to read the prior stories but they are wonderful stories and get a looking into the Turlock family dynamics.
If you love sweet and clean, then definitely read this. Heatherly Bell has another story with more sexy scenes in it if you prefer that. Sometimes though, I just prefer a great story line without all the sexy scenes.
Sophia Abella is the step-sister to the Turlock brothers when her "Daddy-O" married their mother. Riley Jacobs is the new police chief in Starlight Hills. Eight years ago, Sophia meet Riley at a bar. The two instantly clicked and within a short period of time, they married. Riley was a Marine and due back on base in North Carolina. Well things didn't work out and Sophia came home. Her father helped get divorce papers ready but Sophia can't even say the "d" word, therefore the papers were not signed by either one and therefore technically they are still married!!
Reading this second chance of love was one that I thoroughly enjoyed. There were some really great scenes that made me swoon and some that made me laugh out loud.
I sincerely hope that the author isn't done with Starlight Hill. There is still one more story but I really want to read Ty's (the fire chief that worked with Scott. It seemed like he and Mandy, Diana's sister would make a great story!!! HINT, HINT!!!)
Something just rubbed me the wrong way about this book, and it took me a bit to figure out why. The book opens with a scene where we find our heroine anticipating a date with a man that she has developed an online relationship with but has never met. She expects to see him walk through the door of her restaurant, and instead she sees a man from her past. We, as the readers, don't really have a clue who this man is, and the author doesn't let on for, perhaps, too long. We know that “he done her wrong,” but we know no specifics of their relationship. So when it is revealed later that they are actually married but estranged, it just came across as so completely wrong that she had been doing all this online flirtation—even though she'd never attempted to meet anyone before this date that fell through. Just because a couple is estranged doesn't mean they're not married and should uphold their vows! No matter what happened in the past, until they are divorced, neither should make any moves with the opposite sex… certainly not developing online relationships. Or perhaps I'm just a little old-fashioned that way. I like that the author made this a no-profanity version of one of her other books, as I'm not a fan of swearing in novels. I might have preferred a little of the steam that was also taken out, too, but I'm glad to have no profanity. I just wish it didn't have cheating either.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Cute story of a couple that never got divorced but still loved each other. He seemed a bit controlling at times. Both characters grew a little. In the last book it felt like Sophia was so young and we missed a huge chunk of her life. There was one curse word and a couple weird scenes “made love” on kitchen table. But still closed door.
