Rate this book
They demanded he design the most advanced AI ever. Now he must kill the project… or they’ll kill him.

In a near-future city where privacy is consigned to the history books, Michael finally completes the sentient gaming AI that will make his company billions. But as he prepares to accept his bonus and wrestle his marriage back on track, sinister agents threaten him with death. Debating how real the threat is, Michael must choose between defying the assassins and destroying all trace of the pinnacle of his life’s work.

Fearing for his life and sanity, Michael goes on the run, trusting only one “person”: the gaming AI he created. As the agents close in, Michael begins to realize the lightning-fast-learning software has grown in intellect and ambition; it’s almost as if the killers’ apocalyptic warnings about releasing the AI onto the wider internet might just be true.

With the police unwilling to believe him, the agents refusing to back down, and the lives of his loved ones in the balance, Michael is thrown from one deadly situation to another, leading to a twist he never imagined possible.

If you like page-turning suspense with a technological edge, pick up SHATTERED: Fear in the Mind today.

He is well-travelled, his favourite destinations being New Zealand and Vietnam, which have influenced his writing immensely, especially obvious in his Adam Park novel.

For now, however, globe-trotting is taking a back-seat to raising his two children and writing, although he hopes to one day combine all three.

He now resides in Staffordshire, UK, with his wife and two children.

This is a wild ride. I have read almost every book written by this author and liked them all. This one is a very different type of book from his others. In this one Artificial Intelligence is the main character. Michael (no last name) is the lead coder in the creation of a very advanced artificial intelligence ‘program’ that he has made in his own fantasies. It is smart and learns faster than Michael can code. To Michael, the ‘program’ is almost human and Michael calls it Her. This is a fast paced thriller taking place almost totally inside a network of computer code. It is hard to tell who is human and when the human is actually just a ‘program’ mimics human behavior so well that it passes for human. It is hard to write about the book without revealing the surprise ending so I will just say that if you like computers and have often said that your phone is smarter than you, you’ll like this book. Besides for $2.99 you can’t get anything more entertaining for a couple of hours of solitude. Buy it and check it out. Also check out Mr. Davies other books.
