The only thing more dangerous than being a mage is other people knowing that you have supernatural abilities. And here I am, untrained, untried, and ripe for the picking.
With the magical black market chasing my untrained powers, I'm running a race I can't win. The wolves who have added me to their pack are no match for the dark mages hunting me. With no way to learn control over these talents, I'm risking the lives of the men I love just by being in contact with them.
When we discover a bewitched knife in our possession, we find it's the key to a magical prison; who’s occupant might just be the answer to my troubles, if my pack can accept him. Which would be all well and good if my parents would just butt out for five minutes.
Trapped between parents, powers, and passion, I’m doing my best to survive, keep my loved ones safe, oh, and I still have to pass exams.
This book is intended for mature audiences. 18+ readers only! It contains language and sexual situations. This is a medium burn reverse harem where the girl gets all the guys. Why Choose? Harem members added as series progresses. Series will contain some mild M/M scenes.
Dakota has two passions in life: writing and cinnamon tea. Tea so strong she ought to be able to see her future when she drinks it, and the writing? Well she hopes it makes you see stars when you read it. She creates reverse harem romance novels filled with things that go bump in the night. That handsome werewolf walking down the street? The suave vampire you’re just dying to get a taste of? You’ll find them enraptured by charming, smart ladies ready to make those bad boys work for their affection. When not writing, Dakota can be found on the back of a horse out on the trail or tending the animals on her farm.
Well, I noped my way out of this one - DNF around 70%.
The characters were all just stunningly stupid. I mean, come on.
Firstly, I have a problem with any book where the bad guys try to kill you repeatedly, but when you win you just knock them out. KILL THEM! They have demonstrated they aren't going to stop, so you're just letting them practice until they get it right! FFS, don't leave murderous demon summoning human traffickers alive to come at you again, you fucking mouth-breathing morons!
Secondly, after all the practice, they finally succeed - who'd have guessed?! - and I was so bored with the resulting mess that I just couldn't even anymore with this book. Plus it was so weird. Huge swaths of time passing with Sofia just like comatose. The guys bonding and it feels like Sofia is just on the outside of and irrelevant to everything. There was no intensity, no connection, and just bleh. I started skimming
The final straw was when they're talking about why they are cooperating rather than... you know, killing the bad guys. I'm talking about the boys, here, who are free but going along with the villains because reasons. They say it's because the villains are threatening to tell everyone they are supernatural if they don't cooperate. Okay geniuses, you know the best solve for that? KILL THEM. Secondly, they are demon-summoning, human trafficking mages. THEY are going to expose YOU? Really? Really?!
For fuck's fucking sake. I just can't even with this fucking book.

Pages: 255 My rating: 3.5 Read other books by this author in the future: yes MC: Sofia, Doc, Ed, Allan SC: Victoria, Ash, Star, Alex, Sam
I liked the second book too. I love that in this series the story is very important the relationship building is a little too fast for me (kind of insta love), but it is between slow and medium burn. I can recommend this series.
This book was confusing it’s supposed to be a RH and it feels like the female lead isn’t the center focus point feels more like doc is as everyone seems to be infatuated with him. I felt like there was so much emphasis on that, that it took away from parts of the book. Like the female lead saying she was feeling jealous but then she kept saying “I actually am not bothered by it” but then bringing the fact up again. Then throw in the lead’s friend Star who came out of nowhere as a character with what felt like no purpose. And it felt like filler. This just didn’t feel like a real story. The female lead spent a decent amount possessed and then then there was just gaps of time missing. Then cherry on top no one is having sex? How are we in the second book and there’s no real descriptive steam? I don’t think I’ll finish the series as the first two books were hard to get into.
This is what I would classify as a fast-burn RH romance, they met, had a connection and within 2 weeks were in a relationship. When I think of Reverse Harems, I think of all of the people in the group focusing on the female/male lead. I don't think of The Harem having relationships with one another/falling in love with one another. I didn't like that. I wasn't into the storyline either, I was frustrated. Like they could have killed Alex and the whole mafia if they wanted to, but because it would cause trouble with the humans and upset the order of things, they decided not to kill him *insert eye roll here*. The guys were also boring. I will not be reading the next books in the series.
This was a DNF (did not finish) for me. It was just too boring. Sophia and the guys are together with nikolai and they occasionally have oral sex, but that's about it. Sophia and her relationship with Victoria is boring, and their parents are so boring it's painful. I skipped so much because this takes up so much time. Also the demon part and fighting with the Anderson's is just ridiculous. Ugh! I think the best thing about this series is the book covers. That artwork is amazing! This story had so much potential, but I just can't stand it anymore, so I'm done. This is also more of a late teen\new adult maturity level book and I found that annoying.
This one is amazing. First the guy in the dagger then the crazy ass shit with the demon. I can't wait to read the last book. This one had me siting on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Sofia is running in circles. After escaping the Anderson holding she took the fancy knife used to free herself with her. Call it a consolation prize. But, oddly enough, after using it to deflect a spell it starts to deteriorate. Not wanting to lose an artifact that can deflect magic, or a nice pointy object- 2 for 1 special, she tries to use her new powers to fix it. What happens instead shocks everyone. And then Victoria is hurt, then Sofia is kidnapped- again, and now she's having an out of body experience. It's not as advertised.
Spoilers ahead. There were parts I enjoyed and parts I didn't. How could they leave Sofia alone, even for a second? Bad mages, a bound demon under orders, they didn't have any kind of guard on Victoria, and I thought the whole dorm was under heavy wards. How did they get past wards from a war mage? That whole scene didn't make sense at all. There are 4 of them, not a single 1 could have gone with her? Invisible or not? And, yes, supes are in hiding, but couldn't they have someone watching Victoria? Because to hurt Sofia, she makes a great target. The time loss is a little strange. We go from being immersed in their lives, to watching a movie skip on fast forward. And how could the Andersons not have pressed their advantage then? That fracture was a perfect opportunity. Having her under their control, even partly, especially Alex could have done some damage. Not that I'm looking for ways for Sofia to be hurt, it was just very un-bad guy like not to press the advantage. They're not exactly super villains. The resolution was vague, quickly glossed over, then poof back to happy. It's a little jarring, considering readers get skimmings for about a third of the book. And a couple relationships deepen and change, but it's all background when in reality it's dynamic changing for the group. It starts strong, glosses, picks back up, glosses, and then quickly ends. And we barely get to "see" one of the funniest parts- the speeding through the snow. Which, by the way, how did he get nominated to drive? They didn't have cars then! I'm still processing why Sofia's dad is a bigot. He has friends that are both different races, human and supernatural, but his daughter dating someone of mixed heritage and abilities has him saying rude things? I guess the line is the possibility of them becoming family? Good enough to hang out with after work, but not add to their genetics? The summary/review is a little disjointed, but then again my brain is still bouncing because the story was, too. But this is a trilogy, and I'm curious how they're going to wrap things up.
I really enjoyed the book but it was a little to MFMMM for me. Too much bisexual areas in the book. I got nothing against gays or Bisexuals, as I am a Bisexual at times or have been in the past, its just that I am used to MFMM not touching or sucking a guys dick with his dick into someone else around the same time tho. Just puts me off a little. Other than that it's a great story line but there are ALOT of punctuation Mark's in the wrong spot or not at all. Also, when they are telling it from a different person's type of view it tends to just be as if it is somehow the main character talking. For the most part. I mean occasionally they will have a comment about they're particular feelings and thoughts go into it but not as much as I believe they should. I am an avid reader and if not busy can read almost 3 books in 1 day so making sure what's gng on is interesting enough for me to continue on reading these books. I am ALSO EXTREMELY CONFUSED as to why she keeps saying her parents died when she was really young when in the information u read on the book its talking about how her parents were very powerful mages who left her to protect her from people. But never once does she make that statement. Only once in the book Becoming does she in the first chapter I believe say exactly that. Or may be she does know but then y wouldnt she tell her pack if that's the case so they could be better prepared? Well I cant wait for the next book to come out
I'm reading this series after reading the Pizza Exorcist series by the same author, and it's been a bit of an adjustment as it's a slightly different style. This one is definitely a much slower-burn one. For anyone who likes steamy scenes - I'm about to start book 3 and there hasn't been any yet. HOWEVER, you don't need that for a good RH book. The main characters have been all introduced well, you get to know them all and their history, and get their point of views.
The ONLY thing that bugs me a bit, and actually was enough to remove a star from my rating, was when there's another point of view besides Sofia's. Typically from one's POV, it uses "I" when talking about themselves. In these books, it continues to reference themselves as "him / his", and it can get a bit confusing. It still works mostly, but not as well, in my opinion. Especially when multiple "hims" are involved. That would be the only thing I would wished changed! There's also a character that was briefly mentioned in book 1 that suddenly appears randomly in this book. I felt she was really randomly and abruptly added in here.
The story has been great, though! I like the characters, I like the plot, and I've been continuing to read every chance I can get!
Demon’s Touch is the second installment into the RH series Mountain Magic by Dakota Brown.
So blissfully, amazingly surprised with how this book turned out. I’m ecstatic to have continued the series. Book 1 still feels so small compared to Brown’s work here.
Not even remotely upset the ‘demon’ in the title didn’t refer to Ash. Such a shocking twist of events. I actually miss the little demon interloper. Funny how the Andersons hostile takeover attempt turned out in everyone’s favor. Who knew you could win a demon over to your side so simply?
On that subject, I do enjoy this take on demons and their existence as another species from a different plane and not the harbingers of doom more commonly referenced. Adds to levity of the story.
Nikolai! All the swoons! I absolutely adore his character. It’s such an interesting addition to the group. He definitely balances everyone out. Adding not only more magic, but more knowledge and acceptance to their bonds.
The world building expanded some with the knowledge of not only demons, but vampires and the magical communities cooperation in the past. It will be fun to see if the groups progress against the Andersons helps more than just their group. I’m hoping for world-level change in regards to magical beings rights.
This book lived up to all of my expectations based off of the first book of the series! I’m so happy with the direction it’s going, and I seriously cannot wait for the next book! The characters are as endearing and lovable as ever in this story. I love the addition, and I love The way this author balances out their interactions with just enough angst to add a level of believability. A small warning if you are just finding this series. This series does contain MM scenes. So, if you are not into Mail/Mail interactions/intimacy this series will not be for you. However, if you’re like me, and you don’t mind then the series is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it! While The men are first and foremost about her, there are also group scenes, and seems just for the guys as well.
There is a bit more action in this book than the previous one. I liked the pacing of the romance, but the villains in this story make me roll my eyes. MC adds a ancient Russian mage to her harem. She gets possessed by the high level demon... That part of the story was just off for me. The bad guys let her go? The huge gap of time where there was not detail seemed like a huge plot hole to me. Overall, I liked the story but not as much as the first book. Although, Victor is my favorite love interest out of all the guys.

I am loving this series. It is the 3rd Dakota Brown series I have started. I flew through her Pizza Exorcist series (one of my favorite series) and then went on to book 1 of her Nightmare series (which is looking even better than the exorcist series!) and have decided to read this back series while waiting for the 2nd nightmare book to come out. Dakota is not disappointing. This series keeps me on my toes. And, like the other 2, it is written in a fun, easy going language that just pulls you in and keeps you there until the wee hours of the night.
This is a good continuation from the first book though I feel it was slightly repetitive. Also the main baddies in the book didn't have any character or background development, so their part of the story was a bit random. The MC and her men continued to develop well and the natural progression in trying to make everything work out between them was intriguing. I'm patiently waiting (hoping) that we get to see a conclusion regarding Ash, the poor demon has suffered enough.
This was okay. There was a lot of M/M romance and it was good, but I feel like the M/F romances were flat, if even existent. I feel like in each M/F romance it was like, "wanna be together? please? ok. Great." No passion, no angst, no real feels at all. Kinda blah. And the Andersons are not a deep enough villain well for 3 whole books. Let's just keep not killing them until we get several plot points from them first. Stupid. I'll try to read book 3, but I'm bored.
Mostly cute. Liked the relationships between her and the guys. Completely baffled it took so long to determine the other love interest was the bad guy (and she never even asked the guys why they didn't like him, wtf?). Overall, cute trilogy. Probably not worth the time I spent reading it, though. I think I'll pass on this author going forward, not that she's bad, she's just not exemplary and I'm trying to rein in my reading addiction.
Borrowed from Kindle Unlimited.

This is the second book of the mountain magic series that I listened the audio book to. I'm kind of conflicted about this series. I have moments where I'm bored and the story is lacking and then towards the end, that happened in both books, the action picks up and my interest is peaked again. I thought I wouldn't want to listen to the next book, but now I'll give it a try.
The characters, especially the FMC, are very naive and there's (still) not a lot of steam happening, so be aware of that.
I couldn't stop reading the book , I had to know how it finished as soon as I read the first chapter!! The whole story is beautiful created and well written ,it has amazing characters , beautiful love from each character in different ways and their personality!! MUST READ!
Absolute must read!!!! One of my favorite series this year !!!!
I absolutely loved this book. I absolutely hate Alex and his Rejects I can’t wait till hell / karma is brought to their front doors . I really hope then can help Ash even if he was kind of a jerk at first nobody deserves to be held against their will . I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Grab your heart ladies, because these guys are spoken for. Omgosh, Battlefield Russian Mage Man, Sexy Scholarly Vampire and College Boy Werewolves that are Twins, drool worthy. They will do anything for their little Mage too. Watch out Andersons They are coming for ya, and bringing Hell with them.
This book was filled with tension and angst. An almost demon take over. Will or won't they get rid of the demon. Not going to tell you, because spoiler. If you want to find out the answers to this and other pressing questions, you will just have to read the book. Be sure to read Becoming, book 1 of series, first or you will be lost.
I really enjoyed these books, so much so i read all 3 back to back, then walked around with matchsticks holding my eyes open all the next day. Full of engaging characters, with a sweet, sassy and sext FMC and caring loving Men. with a truly rotten bad guy. This is definitely a series i will enjoy read again and again.
This is the slowest burn RH book I have ever read. I like that when chapter is Sofia its all in 1st person but didn't really like that others where more 3rd person. Kind of ruined the fact the chapter was suppose to be in there mind set. It's a good book though, would prob read again in the future.
Love it. Definitely worth the money. It was an amazing continuation of the first book picked up nearly eight where the first book left of so it didn’t feel like I missed anything. I’m excited to see how Sofia deals with her new knowledge in the next book. I would definitely recommend this book.
Sophia and her guys had a big challenge in this 2nd book. It was difficult but they all came out stronger in the end, especially Sophia. Can't wait to see how Sophia, Doc, Nicolai, Ed and Allan handle the Andersons in the 3rd book. All of the characters are developing and are very likeable. Thanks Dakota for an entertaining series so far.
I enjoyed this second installment but it definitely lagged a bit more than the first. The time gaps from the demon possessing Sophia were a bit long and drawn out. I really just wanted to skip forward to a big battle or something. The solution to the demon was a bit anticlimactic. I'll definitely read the next book though.
Both. I chose both. The characters are compelling and the Storyline interesting and fast paced. The narrators for the audiobook are amazing but I was impatient and had to finish by reading the rest. Now I can go back and listen to Doc’s drawl and Nicholi’s Russian accent 😏😍 Now (impatiently) onto the third!
I’m really loving this series. I love how strong Sofia is becoming in each series. I’m looking forward to reading what happens next. Thank you Dakota for your amazing books.
Absolutely fabulous. The storyline is beautiful engaging and never dull. The growth and development of the tale is awesome. The characters you will fall in love with and want as your own. The cuddles are so warm you can feel them. A MUST READ
