Held down by an oppressive weight, the death of her lover a scar she forever carries, Sophie’s wings have been clipped. She’s holding on to her past like it’s the only thing that defines her and ignoring what’s right in front of her nose.
Pushing everyone away, Sophie gambles with her life, playing games she can never win. As she chases the ghost of a long dead Jake, she hits rock bottom, following him into darkness.
A surprising intervention, with dubious connections to her brother, throws Sophie a lifeline. But it’s not the chilling man with the black eyes that saves her, it’s the man trying to pick up his own life, the man she discarded long ago.
Fresh out of rehab, Ben Cooper wants to leave his past behind, be the man he knows he can be given half a chance. A lucky break tosses the world at his feet, fame and fortune at his fingertips. Not bad for an ex addict and gang member, right?
But he wants his Butterfly too.
It’s time for both Sophie and Ben to stop chasing tricks and reach for a life they deserve. Can Sophie make peace with her past, can Ben stand up and be counted? Will they find their fairy tale together?
Klaire is a multi genre author who has a passion for reading and more often than not, can be found with her nose stuck in a book. She loves angsty, dark reads but is not averse to the fun, light hearted side either. Typically, a romance reader, of most genres/sub genres, her passion for literature and written words goes back to her childhood when she always dreamed of writing and telling the world her stories.
Not quite a stay at home mum, Klaire has a busy life which she shares with her husband of twenty-five years and her little monkey boy. Her adult children have flown the coop already, but still manage to come home for ‘mama’s lasagne.’ EOL Nurse and business owner are her daytime realities.
Avid eater of mayonnaise and chips, anti-get fitter, lover of cheesy music and a fierce advocate of things close to her heart. She has a bucket list as long as her arm, which includes sky diving and visiting Cambodia. And wants to travel the world.
Great believer in second chances, insta-love (because her love is a product of that), fairy tales and monsters… Klaire just wants to write all the words for you.
The Razer series is a favourite of mine due to its wonderful characters, the incredible storylines and the emotions that I have felt whilst devouring these books. K.A. Sands writes about real life situations and difficulties brilliantly. In Chasing Tricks we witness Sophie struggling to cope with the aftermath of life changing events that no person should ever experience, and also there is Ben who now has the opportunity to move forward and make something of himself, hopefully leaving his past behind.
My heart ached for Sophie throughout this book. What she went through and seeing her struggle so much was heart-breaking at times. I was able to understand her actions completely. She is young, has responsibilities and is unable to let go of her past, and I feared that she would never be able to start moving forward in any areas of her life.
Ben is someone I admire immensely. He has made choices in the past that have taken him down a path that I know he regrets walking. He is very talented and has worked so hard to put his addiction behind him. From the very start I was rooting for him to grab the opportunities that were being offered whilst also praying that he avoided going back to his old ways. I desperately wanted him to succeed.
I adore all the characters in this series. This group make up one big family - some are blood related and some are not - and they always look after their own, which is what I love most about them. We all make mistakes…. it’s a fact. Thankfully they know when someone deserves a second chance and without hesitation are there offering support and encouragement, and you can see what a difference this can make to a person.
Chasing Tricks is the fourth and final full-length novel in this series and by reading the books in order I know you will gain a greater understanding of what every character has been through. It is an incredible series to read - one that I never hesitate to recommend. I loved Chasing Tricks from start to finish and I felt that the author brought the series to a fitting end. I was delighted to read that there will be some novellas published in the future as I don't think I will ever be ready to completely say goodbye.
KA Sands knows how to pack a story with drama. In this story, it has it all and left me desperate to know the outcome. Raw, hard-hitting at times but with masses of compassion to it is a really good read. The friendship and support shown by the characters in this tragic, twisted tale was heartwarming. I was willing a happy ending at last for Sophie.
If you have read the other books in the Razer series by KA Sands you will know the background to Sophie’s story. How her life had been destroyed and how her family and friends had tried to put it back together again. Wow, did it leave me holding my breath for these two characters. At times I wanted to shake both her and Ben but then they both had so many demons to deal with I could forgive them.
This is an extremely well written story by KA Sands and a fitting ending to this incredible series of stories. If you haven’t read the others do read those first but do read them all, you won’t regret it.
