Story Contains: M/M/m romantic content, age play (no ABDL), puppy play, spankings, an excitable sub who throws himself into every situation, a mechanic with a terrible sense of humor, and a cop who thinks they’re both uniquely perfect.
Cody has a boyfriend, and he has also has a "Daddy" that get along quiet beautifully together. They both love him to death, even if they haven't used the "L" word yet. All Cody wants is for them to love each other also. Jameson knows that loving Cody means he has to accept Ford in his life as well. He wouldn't want it any other way, but he wasn't expecting the fuzzy, tingly growing feelings that he realizes that he feels developing for Ford. This is certainly something new...isn't it? Where did they come from and just how long have, they been there? He questions if it's a good thing or a bad thing and what it will grow into. Ford never thought he would ever find someone to love and take care of, but now it seems that he not only has one man...he just might have two. What in the Hell is that all about??? He knows that both touch his heart, although in different ways. All he can imagine when looking at them both is that he is starting to picture the three of them as a family...the family that he has forever wanted and longed for. He knows that two men dating the same person is a "horse of a different color" and a whole lot different than THREE men falling in love with each other...can he handle that? Can Jameson and Cody handle that? Would they even want to?? I totally enjoyed finding out how these three guys worked out how to answer these questions and to be together...accept their differences...and most importantly, to love each other while accepting all the different things that made them individuals. Ford was a tower of strength for both of them. Everyone should have their very own Ford. Think I'll see if I can order one from Amazon:) The way he enabled Cody and Jameson to feel that they could have each other and that there was still always a place in their hearts and lives for him too, was priceless. The ending was so good, but it left questions hanging, so hopefully there is going to be more of these three men in future books in the series. I have to know what happens to all of them.
I didn’t really like the first two books in this series but since I do love M.A. Innes, I was hoping this one would be better. And it was, but it still wasn’t amazing, just okay.
Destin has grown up in a commune of sorts so he’s kind of naïve and has no idea about most of the real world.. When he got to college he tried to catch up on everything he missed. Luckily the internet helped with that.
Destin might have been sheltered all his life, but he is completely ready to start living his life now. And when he meets Ray when he is buying a car, he is sure the hot mechanic needs to be involved in his plans.
That is until he gets pulled over and he meets Avery, a no-nonsense cop who is just as hot as Ray. But now that Destin has two guys to pine over he has no idea what to do. Until he learns that there are relationships with 3 people instead of 2. Now to only get Ray and Avery to see how good the 3 of them could be…
I really loved Destin. He was hilarious and just blurted out anything he thought. He wasn’t shy about that he wanted and I loved how he threw himself into the age play and the puppy play.
I was worried Avery and Ray would only connect because of Destin, but I was glad to find out that wasn’t the case. Ray and Avery fell in love as well, and that really helped with seeing them as equals in the relationship.
But besides all the things I liked, there was still something missing. I just never felt that true connection with any of these guys.
And I’ve read most of M.A. Innes’ books, so I could appreciate all the cameos, but I do have to admit those parts were a bit much and confusing, even for me.
This is still not my favorite series of M.A. Innes, and while I will read anything they write, I don’t think this series will ever really pick up.
Though this book had it moments, it just did not live up to my expectations. I’m so disappointed that this is Avery’s story. I’ve wanted his story from the first time I read about him in Too Close to Love and again in Rethinking Fate. Sadly, I never felt a real connection to the characters nor to their relationship.
I’ve come to really enjoy books by M.A. Innes, but this series has been very disappointing. I’m sure I’ll keep reading their books, but I may need to wait a while in between.
I guess I'm in the minority here but this story didn't work for me at all. The premise is Destin, a college sophomore falls for both a cop and a garage manager, both of whom he met the day he bought his used car from the garage manager, Ray. Avery, the cop, stopped him for driving erratically. Destin was trying to check out all the buttons and controls while driving and was weaving back and forth over the center line. Everyone thinks it's cute. Not.
Destin is portrayed as a bouncy, cute, overeager virgin who wants these two men and wants a relationship with both and wants both men to love each other (they've never met) and wants all of them to be in a BDSM relationship, maybe one can be a Daddy and he can be a little and maybe not. Maybe he'll be a puppy. And on and on with lots of cute exuberance. Get this: he grew up in what amounts to a commune, left home--disowning his family, and got a full ride scholarship to college that even included a living stipend. (I wish that were true for all young gay men who are forced to leave home.) It's so totally off the wall unrealistic.
Of course when Ray and Avery meet there's some chemistry and they have some dates that leads to kissing and sex etc. God, the more I write, the more I realize just how OTT this story was. They do fall in love and of course they love their boy and he loves them. Enough said.
When I want light and fluffy, I'm really good at suspending disbelief and I tried to do that here but there's just too many impossibilities and the characters didn't gel for me as a couple (Ray and Avery) or as a triad. The end.
2.5 stars Weirdly, both a lot and almost nothing happens in this one, which I think only spans a few weeks. I finished this and felt very unsatisfied. The ending feeling more like we were still only in the middle of their story rather than reached a solid HFN/HEA.
The beginning had a lot of telling to try and get the reader caught up to how these three actually met and have been dancing around each other, until Ray finally gets the three of them together in the same room and it all starts to happen.
Destin has been extremely sheltered and is fully embracing living in the world and experiencing everything his heart desires. I both loved him and wished he would calm the heck down because he was exhausting. For me, Ray and Avery are the real drawcard here. The heat coming off them in their scenes together makes me wish they had been given them their own book. Oh, the places they could have gone...
This felt a lot like Jameson, Ford and Cody from the Embracing Faithseries, which I loved, but never quite reached those levels of feels.
I loved Destin right away.. He's fun, curious and adorable in his cluelessness about dating and relationships.. Ray is a sexy mechanic and Avery is a hunky cop. Both have caught the eye of Destin.
"Leon says sometimes couples aren't couples but three people. That's a thing. I saw it online. I don't know how to get it though."
The dynamic between these three men was entertaining right from the start. Destin and his antics had me smiling the whole way through the book.
"You have to stop letting him play you." Avery didn't seem to take offense. He huffed a teasing smile. "Why? He likes manipulating me and I like seeing him happy and then you get to spank him for being a brat, so we all get what we want." LOL
"But since opening my mouth just seemed to lead to more talking and less kissing, I just sat there quietly and tried to look well behaved. It was harder than they probably realized."
Then things begin to heat up..
"It was so hot I was going to explode. Was Ray really going to make love to Avery? I'd have sold Leon to the circus to make that happen tonight."
I enjoyed watching the relationship between Avery and Ray grow and develop. It was fun to watch them work out how they fit together.
"Stop teasing and fuck me." I snorted, trying not to laugh. "I'm going to make love to you, asshole. Don't ruin my moment."
A sweet, sexy and fun story of three men fitting together perfectly and how they came to figure it out. Another favourite!! Highly recommend.
Destin was a whirlwind of excitement, curiosity and want, so of course he would need two to keep up with him. While I had hoped Avery would get a sub of his very own, it did work with him and Ray. Both having to relent in their normal way of reacting to make things work. I loved the cameo of old chars, specially Jay, I had hoped him and Destin would get more time together and be more bonded, they were both so precious.
Leon was a character I had a hard time even reading, he was so difficult and I'm curious if he will end up a sub or a dominant in a future book, it could go either way.
While I enjoyed the book it did lack a bit. With three chars together you rarely get it all fleshed out in one book and they needed another to let us experience their relationship. There was no bumps in the road, it went pretty straight forward. It needs the same love as the Embrace series.
The Only Way To Dream is the third book in the Mechanics of Love series by M.A. Innes. It can be read as a standalone but the first 2 are also highly recommended.
This book is about Avery (if you've read the Loving series and Rethinking Fate you already met him), Ray (if this isn't the first book in this series you've read you know who he is) and Destin.
I loved their story. Can't wait for the next book.
Destin grew up in a unique environment that didn't prepare him for college or even the real world. Thankfully his energy, curiosity and determination mean that he meets everything full-on and is determined to succeed. He is also exploring the world of BDSM which he finds fascinating. Currently, he is flirting with two different men and they are both sweet guys which he assumes he will have to choose between soon but when he realises that he could not have to choose between the sexy cop and mechanic with the wicked smile that he realises he still has a lot to learn. Avery and Ray have been flirting with mysterious and mischievous Destin for weeks but it isn't until he starts to open up that they realise that there is more to him than meets the eye. But when getting to know Destin means dating each other as well, they start to realize how much is riding on their new relationship…everything.
I enjoyed this story with the confused Destin who just wants to enjoy everything and simply cannot choose between the guys. I loved his thirst for life and love which was a real tonic against the bad in the world. This was easy to read, feel and understand which definitely made me smile and feel all gooey inside. I loved Destin's full name. This is an MMm book containing mature content of a BDSM nature including D/s, DDLB, puppy play and spankings.
This was a great addition to a fun series. Ray, who we met earlier in the series, is the mechanic this time around. We've also met Detective Avery, the cop who acts as a liaison of sorts between the police department and the local BDSM crowd, in the Loving series. I've been anxiously awaiting Avery's story. Destin is a new character. He has left the religious community that kept him sheltered from the world, and he's happily absorbing all he can about pop culture, life as a gay man, and the different aspects of BDSM. When he meets Ray and Avery on the same day, he's attracted to both dominant men, but it takes a while before he learns that polyamory isn't just a porn plot. When the three men get together, wow! It's very sexy, sweet, and funny. I love these men and enjoyed the scenes between the three of them, as well as the scenes with Ray and Avery strengthening their bond together. I would love a follow-up story that shows more of Destin's time with each man, as well as the trio's exploration of more of Destin's fantasies. I love this series, and I feel like this addition fits right in. All the cameos of other characters I enjoy (from various series) is a wonderful bonus. I appreciate all the time spent in this open-minded college town, and I look forward to my next visit!
I really enjoyed the first half of the story and the main reason was Destin. He put himself out there and wasn’t afraid to go for what he wanted. He was funny and hyper and cute. Watching him learn what he liked was great. My only issue was that we got two scenes of Avery and ray spending time alone together, having spicy fun and going on a date but the same effort was never made with destin. They never made it seem important to have one on one time with him which ended up feeling like they were trying harder in their emotional relationship with each other then they were with destin. Almost everything with Destin and the guys on page was always spicy things and figuring out k I n k s and the very rare talk about his past. It was mentioned they talked a lot on the phone but we never saw that or knew what about other then Destin wanting to c o m e. But then we get tender sweet moments with Avery and ray getting to know each other, going in a date and having a talk when Avery was feeling down. It just left the second half of the story feeling more about romance between the two doms and s e x between the three men which was disappointing because without Destin they wouldn’t even be together and I feel like he deserved some on page romancing as well.
I liked Destin's enthusiasm for life and his grab it by the balls and go for it attitude. As someone raised in a religious community he wanted to try everything and anything because how could he know what he liked. This pretty much covers littles, puppies and a bit of spanking but nothing more intense. He even wants to date two guys and manages to convince them (quite evenly) that they should all be a triad. I did find I didn't seem to know as much about Ray and Avery as you find out about Destin. But it was fun to see how Destin's brain worked and he would start down a path of "what if, what if, what if". He definitely needed the guys to reign him in. His roommate Leon was annoying af. But on the whole, it was an okay easy read.
There are LOTS of characters from other series of the author's and it took me a while to clue in to the setting because some people sounded familiar and once I realized which stories they came from it made it a bit easier to get the relationships. You don't NEED to read any of those other stories, but if you are one of those people who want to understand references made to other characters you might find this frustrating.
The Only Way to Dream is a fun menage romance. The third book in The Mechanics of Love series, it is sure to delight all of MA Innes' fans.
Destin is interested in exploring BDSM, a whole big world of which he knows nothing about. He's a college student who grew up in a religious cult and is now interested in exploring his sexual desires.
Upon meeting Ray and Avery, Destin takes an interest in both men. What follows is a fun development, as Destin learns that three can be together.
Their story is a menage romance, with puppy play and an age gap. They are all wonderful together, in this fun, sweet, and easy going tale. Their combined dynamic kept me intrigued throughout. And the way Destin approaches Ray and Avery is wonderful.
As usual, I love the author's writing style. The characters are interesting, and the relationship development is entertaining. The book is charming with some light kink, and some tender emotions.
The Only Way to Dream is a menage romance that is full of humor and heat. MA Innes entertains with this angst free romance.
This is another one click by, drop everything and read book by this fantastic author. At last Avery the sexy cop get his book.
Destin knows what he wants and who he wants, he’s just not sure how to go about getting it. In this book we take a journey with the men he can’t choose between Ray and Avery as they help Destin to explore age play, puppy play and a range of other areas of BDSM, as well as forging a loving poly relationship between the three men. I loved how sweet and funny the book is. It was so worth dropping everything to read and has cameos by the usual suspects when reading about this wonderful college town, characters that Shaw can’t let go so make appearances in lots of her books. I hope that Leon gets a book soon, as he seriously needs to find a way to let the worries go or else he’s going to give himself an ulcer, at the very least I felt he needs to get laid. This whole series gets my whole hearted recommendation.
Three amazing guys and one powerful relationship. That’s what we get here. The way they come to be has got to be one of my favorite journeys that M. A. Innes has ever written. And I think there is more to tell. There’s things I want to ask and a couple nuggets I want to examine in here but I’m exercising restraint. I swear besides the author I don’t think anyone else loves all of her characters as much as me and these guys are right in there too. Destin is such a cutie pie and Ray is a true delight. I’ve been wanting Avery’s story since he was there for Jeremy and Kevin. I’m so glad the teasing is over. But now it’s the teasing from here that’s going to drive me crazy. Regardless of the relationship dynamic or a character’s personal struggle this author can not only write a great read but gives us characters to love for life.
Destin, Avery and Ray are so perfect together. Destin just jumps into what he wants but not without all kinds of lists and information. He is hilarious and Avery and Ray agree, also finding him adorable. They all have such different personalities, keeping the story so interesting. The way they balanced each other out and so HOT. I especially loved how they were so great with Destin and all his kinky lists, showing how supportive and loving Doms they are to him. Ms Innes always has such a way with her characters that they dig into your heart and take residence there. They are so complex but so loveable and relatable . I can't wait for the next book
Destin came from the same background as Jay. Very cult life of no fun. Avery being a police officer and part of the BDSM group puts him in a special place. Then there Ray. Mechanic. Bringing these three together was special. Destin knew what he wanted and went after it. So open wanting to learn everything. Avery and Ray make good Dom/Daddy and show him the world. Though I felt this story could have lasted a little longer. Good story to sink into.
Avery finally! I like how he works with Ray, not just giving in, but challenging and teasing each other. Destin is obviously the start of their relationship, but the Avery/Ray part of the poly is lovely, too. I adore Destin's brand of insanity -- I'm not surprised by it after seeing how nuts Jay was in Untouched, but he's got such different energy from Jay and absolutely no fear of exploring everything! Happy sigh!
I am sooooo happy we finally got Detective Avery’s story!! I knew his would be special and it was!! Destin is an adorable, funny sub who is perfect for the sometimes stuffy but oh so sexy detective and Ray was a wonderful Daddy and partner to the two men. I love triads sooooo much and this one was so sweet and HOT and the perfect blend of rightness. I want more from these three!!!
I loved these three guys together! Ray, Avery and Destin just worked so well. Although, I will say this, Destin damn near exhausted me, I’m so glad he got two Doms to spread his attention between. lol Avery is the one who spoke to me most, I feel like he has so much more of a back story that we didn’t get to see.
Overall, such a wonderful addition to the Mechanics of Love series.
Avery finally got his story, and it was even better than expected! Avery, Destin, and Ray are great together; they complement each other in a way that any of the two as a couple wouldn’t have been able to do. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of this threesome as Destin works his way through his many lists
It's not very often that just the first few pages of the first chapter can set the stage for the hysterics to follow throughout the story and pull you in immediately. I almost died laughing! Destin is so adorable (and unintentionally funny), you just wanna squeeze him! Absolutely loved the dynamics between Destin, Avery, and Ray.
If naughty virgin was a troupe it would be my absolute favorite! Destin was so adorable, earnest and completely untouched. Ray and Avery were so sexy and desperately tender with Destin. I loved every second and I hope we get to see these 3 again! Oh...and the audio of this book is going to be incredible! I can't wait!
It's a menage. It's M A Innes. What's there to say? Go out and read it. Now. M A Innes has a way with quirky, squirrelly characters. Destin, raised in a religious commune, is just learning to live his best life. And has found two men, a mechanic and a cop, that he wants. He has no idea how to get what he wants; but thankfully, they do.
I freaking love this story. I'm a fan in general of kink but not always the poly relationships. But I am so glad I took a chance and read this. The relationship felt real and not unbalanced like some do. And let's face it, Destin is funny as hell. I enjoyed this so much.
I enjoyed this far more than I expected. I generally don't like books with littles or puppies. But aside from those small moments in the book Destin won me over. I wish it had been longer. There was too much off page activity for us to really feel like everyone was bonded. But I did giggle A LOT reading this book, so it was worth the read.
This was instamenage and I loved it. I liked Ray and Avery but Destin was not quite right. I also did not like the fact that Leon was the who took care of him yet he was portrayed as the bad no fun guy?
I don't think Destiny of God would have made it without him if he just escaped from a commune.
I love this college world that MA Innes has created for us. I really loved this story. To see Avery and Destin get together with Ray was even better than I expected. MA Innes is a fantastic storyteller and I loved how this story was completed.
A really love story of growing love between three men
This was wonderful. We have had hints about Avery for so long and seeing him get a happy ending, is just lovely. I adore the way other characters get cameos and the relationship between these three just felt right
I laughed until I cried in so many places. You will love Destin and his men. Trust me. Destin is a stream of consciousness virgin who finds the men of his dreams. Need more of these three, they're just too much fun for one book!
