A vet first described the lethal disease that seems to mimic rabies—right down to its aggressive form—as a globulin obstructive disorder. That was 12 weeks ago, before it swept across America, ravaging the canine population. Before lawmakers made it a crime to own a dog and greenlighted a shoot-on-sight policy. Before the media pounced on the term, and the GOD Plague name was born.
Like his fellow virologists, Trevor Cole is desperate to create a vaccine. Not just for Buddy, his golden retriever and the focus of his bachelor life, but because the GOD virus is showing an uncanny ability to mutate. To create new strains. And with thousands of combinations of viral RNA strands to test, it doesn't help that researchers are suddenly dying by violence, that China's making threats, or that somewhere in West Virginia, the virus has just jumped species.
Deputy Kate Harmon isn't one to believe the sheriff's conspiracy theories about who's behind the GOD Plague. But when she meets Trevor and his fellow scofflaws—ordinary people whose lives have been deeply impacted by their canine companions, and who're harboring them illegally in a remote compound—her beliefs about terrorists, the law and the basic nature of humanity are put to the test.
Because nature isn't the only force manipulating the virus. Even in their small town, bio-warfare threats reverberate. Drones are in the air, and someone who wants to make damn sure a vaccine doesn't happen is gunning for Trevor.
Because sometimes conspiracy theories are true. ________
I enjoyed reading "GOD Plague" very much. It was written before the covid pandemic took over in 2020 but it describes many of the same effects. Between the doctors racing to find a cure, the distrust among groups of people and the fear and sadness all over America in the book it's a lot like what's happening now worldwide. The characters personal stories made the book exciting and interesting to read.
I know this book was finished before the current virus, but the people's responses ring true. And an economic war seems very plausible in this day. I found the main characters real and the side ones interesting. I hate the hidden operative concept, but That does seem to be our world now. Interested in the next step in the story.
Wow I could not put this book down! A fast-paced exciting storyline that was well written and edited! Characters are well-developed and relatable. I highly recommend this book and intend to start book to immediately!
I loved this story. Dogs, owners, the bond between. And, yes, the heartbreak too. The fight to keep them safe from harm as they work to find a cure for the virus that is killing the dogs. Again, good story.
