The truth will be revealed, whether they’re ready or not.
The Standings' fight for the M-Bar’s valuable resources rages on in the post-apocalyptic EMP madness, but at least now the family are united… until secrets that Maxine has tried to keep buried come to light. And when they do, they threaten to severe the last tenuous strands holding the family together. Reeling from betrayals, the departure of Josh's revenge-seeking father-in-law forces him to leave the family, just when they're at their lowest, to bring him home.
Meanwhile, the family hears of a new threat: people are being rounded up and enslaved by a group led by a charismatic leader burning a train of carnage through the world. He’s ruthless, cunning—and now he has their son, Storm, too. To save her family, Maxine will have to come face-to-face with her past and stand down her worst fears if she has any hope of bringing down the man who will stop at nothing to destroy her family.
Prepper survivalist author Grace Hamilton invites you to step into a post-apocalyptic, EMP-ravaged world filled with strong, resourceful characters, survivalist knowledge, and edge-of-your seat action.
Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.
Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"
It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.
This is a good series. This is book three and I love the authors books. The story continues to follow Maxine and her family and the secrets that are reveled. The betrayals and Josh's departure of Josh's revenge-seeking father-in-law. Plus now the family hears that people are being rounded up and enslaved. There are still mysteries and struggles to get through and plenty of unanswered questions. Will wait for the next book. I received this book via a promo code and this is my voluntary review. (also just throwing this out there, if there's any others going I would SO be on board with reviewing this author again) This is book 3 of the Supernova EMP series by Grace Hamilton and even though it jumps us right into the action of an attack on the Standing home ranch, it does a great job in getting us up to speed with the amazing world building and high stakes danger our survivors find themselves in even if you have not read the previous installment's of the series. After having just finished a disastrous Zombie series by a different writer... I had been worried about jumping back into another SHTF situation but this was a breath of fresh air. You can really feel the expertise of the writers survivalist mentality in the depth of her work, coupled with realistic scenarios of the kind of trouble a family could face, the Standing family drama regarding Storms parentage also reminds us that this is still a family fighting to keep itself going despite uncovered secrets and the effects of the Bernard's Star which reset the world back to the dark ages and is affecting most of the population by making them violent and crazy. Each character choice feels solid and intelligent, which helps take you along for the ride as they try to re-join one another and survive. It does end on a cliff-hanger but the journey so far has had me on the edge of my seat anyways, so I will be circling back to books one and two before continuing onwards to see what the Talented Ms Hamilton has in store for Maxine and Josh Standing. It's my first novel of Matt Weights narration and I will certainly be listening again.
Bitter End, the third book in the Supernova EMP series is well-plotted and the characters to be realistic and engaging. The premise follows a group of survivors, Maxine, and her family as they try to find their way and survive in a post-apocalyptic EMP world. The storyline is thrilling and action-packed, loaded with elements of revenge, secrets, slavery, ruthless antagonists, and unexpected twists.
Matt Weight's portrayal of the characters was excellent; he captured personalities, emotions, and intensity. I found Bitter End to be an entertaining listen, one I'll recommend. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is book three of the Supernova EMP series and finally sees all of the Standing family reunited at M-Bar ranch owned by Maxine’s parents Donald and Maria. Maria has been sent mad by the effects of the Bernard Star Supernova event and Donald had been keeping her chained up inside the house. Upon Maxine and Storm’s arrival she managed to get Maria calmer and out of her rom, but the close by town is being run by one man who has convinced everyone there that the supernova effects are actually a virus and anyone who has been affected, needs to be killed. A small group sent out to the ranch were sent away, having been told Maria had just died, but weren’t really believed. Josh and Tally also made it back to the ranch, Tally with a couple of extra people, one called Greene who seems to have no survival experience and who lost the other three of his group, and then Henry a complete prepper, fully armed and knows what to do. Greene lets one of the men into the ranch house and causes further trouble when they go after a group keeping watch on the ranch, inciting further conflict.
Maxine had to travel back to the large city to get a doctor for her son Storm, who has suspected appendicitis, so soon after having his last chemo session just as the supernova hit. Just as he is being operated upon, the local gang send all their men to carry out a full blown attack on the ranch and all those within it. Bullets are flying all over and their ammunition will soon run out, with so many attackers almost overrunning them. A last minute reprieve, simply by coincidence, of the militia group Maxine helped to take back the hospital, coming back to escort the doctor back to the city, helps them repel the attackers. They have one final night at the ranch before getting ready to set off back to the city with the militia. Josh was given a dying statement by Maria, which has left some serious questions in his head and he uses the dinner to try to ask Maxine about them. The question shocks Maxine and leaves her thinking about matters that she had kept hidden for years and which she was still unsure about, but she gets injured pulling away from him, leaving her son Storm even more angry with his dad Josh.
Donald leaves during the night to get vengeance against Craggan, the leader of the local gang who have overrun the local town and Josh feels compelled to try and rescue hm. The others leave, with Storm in a weak post operation state, which leads to a slow journey. The city they are heading to had been taken back by the militia, but they don’t realise that a new group have now taken control and they are all under the control of a man known as the Habourmaster. The Harbourmaster is someone Josh has already heard about from his previous experiences and it seems his area of influence is growing quickly and far. He is rounding up people and they are either put to work or slaughtered. A trail of carnage follows his men everywhere they go. Now Maxine and Storm are caught up by someone Josh and Tally knew on the sail boat they were on as the supernova hit. A young lad nicknamed Ten-Foot, who threw them off the boat and left them to sink or swim. He knows who Maxine and Storm are and will get a bonus from this big boss, if he can get this pair to his boss, alive.
Another group of these men are after Tally and Josh and the Harbourmaster is very interested in getting his hands on Josh in particular. They get caught up in a trap and then taken by this group, but Tally has managed to get away with Henry. The Habourmaster is someone from Maxine’s past and an event from years ago is coming to bite her in the back. He is cunning, smart and extremely ruthless and has a twisted idea of what is right and wrong. He has set himself up as a king of the new city he has created and his loyal followers. Somehow, Maxine’s secret involves Storm and is seems the shock of this on top of everything else has made Storm lost to her and under the Harbourmaster’s control! The Harbourmaster has a twisted idea of what he wants to do with certain members of the Standing family and Maxine’s long held secret could led to the death of most of her family.
The book ends with a massive cliff-hanger of an event, as Maxine, Storm and Josh are all in place in front of the Harbourmaster and his twisted idea of family and retribution. There are serious obstacles to overcome if the family is to get out of this situation and it is left very doubtful that they will all survive, with some possibly twisted to another’s idea of truth, from a secret long held but with unknown consequences. The family have had to deal with a huge number of issues since the supernova struck, and the cities and towns they have travelled through, are falling apart as the strong take over and destroy the normal rule of law. Chaos is reigning and the world is a different place to survive in now. A strong story of a post-apocalyptic world, with power and control quickly changing hands and only the most cunning, and should I say cruel, are thriving. Another fantastic read in this series and I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens to Josh, Storm, Maxine, Tally and others. Will good ever manage to overcome the evil that has been enhanced by the Barnard’s Star Supernova event? Only time will tell! A series to definitely read if you have any interest in survival stories based on extreme events. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
I've read several books written by Grace Hamilton; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

First Matt Weight did an excellent job narrating and he’s moved to my top 10! Anything Grace writes will blow you away. She will teach you things too. Her characters are real and alive. They feel like people you could know and be friends with. Do yourself a favor and pick up this series or any of her series. This part of the series with all the groups fighting each for survival and the issues they brought being them into the new world . Looks like life will get more difficult.
Throughly enjoyed this book, so many twist and turn you really feel every thing the family is going through. You know Josh is fighting to protect and unite them once again.
Excellent book! The Standings are falling apart. So many secrets,so many lives.I loved it! Matt Weight was an excellent narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
Finally Standing family all together and working with each other to save them all but something is about to boil over from one big dark secret that can tear this already broken family apart.
This series, so far, has been really entertaining with outta the fryin pan into the fire situations on every page. This book has moved rather quickly, into a culmination that could be anyone's guess. Can't wait to read book four.
We enter volume two, err...three of this series amid a firefight at the Standing ranch. Resources are scarce and folks will resort to violence and murder to attain necessary supplies no matter whose they are. Josh Standing takes a controversial leave of absence to track down his father-in-law. In the meantime, a well-kept family secret takes precedence throughout most of volume three. Storm Standing’s parentage is in question which causes a variety of problems for the family, especially Storm who feels betrayed, while considering changing alliances. Tension, twists, and turns keep you on the edge of your seat, as will the cliffhanger ending. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Grace Hamilton is the author of many "the day after" apocalypse series, each one of them different. I've read many of her books and none of them are the same story with a different set of people or places. This alone is a very unique skill. But she also manages to tell the stories in a manner that will keep you coming back for her books. The characters are so well developed, you will have a mental picture of them. Their backgrounds are all different, after all, it will take a very talented team to survive in the world after....
This is the final book of four in the Supernova EMP series. The first three books were the story of a family's struggle to find each other. With no communication, no travel and little available to them to survive, let alone find their way to each other, their journey has been a troubled one. BUT, bringing the family back together has it's own problems. Nothing is ever easy.
Grace Hamilton is a prolific writer. You do not have to look far to find one of her series. This one, as well as all of the others, has been great. If you have not read any of her books, pick a series and start, you won't be sorry.
SO I've gotten much to used to Grace Hamilton's trilogy and while I'm excited this series is going past 3 books, it was scary reading this one and thinking it was the last. there are still so many questions to be answered ;) You have to read these in order to get the full effect of the story, but the third was my favorite so far, so many loose ends pulled together yet so many new paths to choose from for these characters!
Book 3 in this amazing series from this awesome author. I love this book as we continue to follow these great characters through their struggles. Although some mysteries are answered in this book there are plenty left to be answered in subsequent books.

Another good story from this exciting end of the world series from Grace Hamilton! A enjoyable read following the same characters & their struggles & troubles! Always worth my time I feel! I do recommend this writer if you have not already read some of their fiction!
A series of captures & escapes plague the family as they are repeatedly joined and separated. Their union in Jacksonville, FL at the Harbormaster’s castle is full of surprises. Who is this mystery man and will they survive his awful plan?
