New York Times bestselling author Nicole Jordan spins delightful tales that simmer with passion and sensuality. In her former life, Nicole grew up as an Army brat, moving frequently and attending high school in Germany. She later earned a civil engineering degree from Georgia Tech and spent eight years as a manufacturing manager making disposable diapers and toilet tissue! Currently Nicole lives in the Rocky Mountains of Utah with her real-life hero (her husband) and beloved kids (her horses).

With over two-dozen historical romances to her credit and four million books in print, set in numerous eras and locales, Nicole now enjoys chronicling the sparks that fly when Regency lovers play the matrimonial mating game.

One of her novels had the dubious honor of being humorously spotlighted by Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show." On a more serious note, Nicole's romances regularly appear on numerous bestseller lists, including The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and USA Today, and have earned such honors as RITA finalist, RWA's Favorite Book of the Year, the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Historical Romance, and the Dorothy Parker Award of Excellence, presented by a group of over one hundred romance reviewers.

This is the first book in the Guardian Series. I really would have enjoyed this book if it would have been more about the secret society. Every chapter had gratuitous sex that I could have lived without. This is definitely a bodice ripper, so if you enjoy that kind of thing, you might enjoy this book.

This takes place in 1813 and I do like the historical parts and the imagery of the island of Cyrene. Even its magical component.

I am giving this 3 out of 5. I read it pretty quickly, but could have have more content and less sex.

Me gustó totalmente.

Lovely one! The book starts wonderfully well, I just loved the prologue scene at the ruins. You really can feel the atmosphere of Cyrene and all the trouble inside Max. I adore Nicole Jordan's books because its very very hot but with a good story behind. Ok, sometime the characters may be like too bunnies in may, but at the end everything makes sense lol I have already heard about this adventure because I read Hawk's book in the Legendary Lovers serie but its good to know how it happened (and to see my beloved Hawk before Skye's soothing influence). Caro its a unique woman and I loved how she can take care of herself. I just think that she was a little bit stuborn at the end, but the capitulation was awesome!

This book ties in with the other Guardian books. Caro Evers is nursing John Yates back to health. Max Leighton, Yates' friend, meets her at Roman ruins for a midnight swim, and they have one night of pure passion. A year later Max is in London, and at a ball, Caro suddenly appears. She needs Christopher Thorne (main character in Lord of Seduction) to her find her friend Isabella Wilde, who has disappeared. She has been snubbed by the ton because she studied at a medical school, dressing as a man to do so. Max volunteers to help her and Thorne. Max is to be the next recruit into the Guardians.

One of my favorites

I have owned this book in paperback for several years and have enjoyed it several times. Was thrilled to see it on sale in a digital version. The characters grab your attention from the first pages and the plot and settings are magnificent. Nicole Jordan is a genius.

Poorly written, terrible dialogue, a twit and an a** for heroine and hero . . . Ms Jordan has little understanding of human psychology. Oh and the final touch is a plot is so simplistic that it must be padded by repeated accounts of how much one 'wants' the other - in graphic detail. And of course, then there is the blow by blow description of the actual deeds. Sometimes I think that these writers must never have had sex with an actual human male.

This book is the first in a series centering around the Guardians, a secret society of protectors sworn to uphold the ancient ideals of a legendary leader of protecting the weak, innocent and the deserving, who have their secret headquarters on the island of Cyrene. This volume is about Max Leighton, a war hero, and Caro, who grew up on the island and is not only a warrior but a healer. Two adventures, happen in this book, leading Max and Caro to learn that they can't live without the other.

This was a slightly odd book due to the over development of the angst between the two characters. The plot was fantastic and the sexy scenes were really well written. However the lengthy build up to the relationship dragged out the story which was unfortunate as the rest of the book was very strong.
