This was a cracker of a read, that I had expected to like, but not to love. The best thing is that my 13 year old loved it too. I mean, the only thing better than **woo space invaders** is incredibly well written space invaders.

Leo is a very likeable, and very believable 16 year old only child, who moves with his parents to his Grandfather's place in Colorado, all the way from England. School isn't starting back till the end of summer, and his parents are both super busy professionals, so he ends up being left to his own devices a bit, when his grandfather disappears for the day most days.

Where exactly is his grandfather going?

He soon discovers the answer to this, in the form to a hilltop observatory, which is actually the gateway to a massive secret, a UFO with an alien game, the real story behind his grandmother's disappearance, all those years ago. And now, Leo needs to guard it all, as his grandfather is heading away.

When Leo works out how to get inside the game, the fun of this novel really starts. It is a cross between Jumanji, and the absolute cracker of a classic, The Last Starfighter. The pure fun of it all is nicely balanced with a real and present atmosphere of tension and danger, which makes for a really involving read. The supporting characters we meet within the game are all well developed, and there are some lovely twists and turns as the story unfolds.

It isn't often you get such a great book, that can genuinely be enjoyed by kids of pretty much all ages, (though it is definitely more aimed at the teen/YA readership), regardless of gender. A story that is more about the story telling, than teenage romance cliche, and that treats its readers as capable, intelligent readers.

There are lots of cool touches to the book such as Leo being an alien already, by being new to the USA, the very different setting of Colorado to his home land.

**I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. Not only is my review totally honest, I am now buying the next book in the series to read asap, as it is just that good.

Very fun young adult, teen and full on adult space read! I felt as though I was in a movie because there is just so much excitement going on. Super Sci-fi and fantasy based. I really loved Leo's character as he travels through space on a great adventure...in search for his lost grandmother who got stuck in an alien game 40 years ago! When Leo enters the game, he expects to be the leader in command of his very own spaceship but instead ends up the exact opposite and in a lot of trouble. His greatest challenge now is gaining the trust and loyalty of his peers to continue his quest safely and soundly! This is a super exciting book, anyone that enjoys video games, fantasy, space, aliens, and adventure will completley love this book! I am sooo thrilled there is a second one as I can not wait to start on it!

Wow. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not put it down.

I loved Leo's sense of humour and the way all the characters each had their own unique personalities. The situations they all got into were very entertaining, especially when Leo saved one of his friends with a jetpack.

Being the owner of a Pekinese I found the description of Milo spot on too!

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

An excellent read

This is obviously pitched at the teenage market. I read it in order to recommend it to my 13 year old grandson, and thoroughly enjoyed it! I am sure that my grandson will, too, as it ticks all the boxes: fast paced; trendy; good character development; original ideas; vivid description. I shall look further at this author's work, especially if he generally writes for this age group!

This book started out a bit slow, but once it got going, there was all kinds of things happening. Poor boy didn't know what was gonna happen next. Leo is a klutzy kid without a lot of self control who ends up in an Alien game, or is it a game? I will say one thing, he has a good sense of what is right and does it. This is a really good book and I enjoyed it. I would have given it 5 stars if the beginning hadn't been so slow.

Good read.

I think the book was great, it reminds me of the reason I originally got hooked on reading. As a 43 year old Male the book was a little to innocent for me. However well written and Interesting this was definitely done for the younger generation. But still a fun read all in all it deserves the full 5 stars. I didn't think it was fair to deduct any stars because I personally like thing's a little more dark and grim

This is a well-written young adult space adventure/litRPG story that I enjoyed very much. I highly recommend it especially to teens and even middle school but it’s interesting enough for adults, as well.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.

This took me far longest read than is remotely normal for me, but not all of that blame goes to the book. Book 1 of this clearly YA fantasy series managed to get the plot going but relied on a bit of exposition and not a whole lot of characterization. Intriguing premise and I’ll pick up the second book.

It took me a little while to get into but once I knew where the story was headed then I really began to enjoy. The storyline was well thought out along with the characters. I look forward to reading more from this Author in the future.

Enjoyed it, but wasn't overly keen on the ending. Just felt it was a little flat.

Leo moves with his family to Colorado to be near his grandad.
His Grandad shows him a warehouse with a crashed UFO inside. The UFO came with a game that trapped Leo's grandmother inside.
