A blinder of a conclusion, absolutely loved this series Lana has created an exceptional set of characters and through the series developed them into ‘people’ with traits and identities a really lovely read!

Sadly, we are already onto the final book in the series.

Saving Nate has cost Nicky more than she expected, with their enemy awakened from his 200 year sleep, along with The Order he only has one thig on his mind, to open a gate between the living and the dead to bring back those passed to enhance their powers.

Nicky has the support of her usual group of friends and others and together they work to overcome The Order and to stop them opening the gate, but can they do it in time and are they strong enough?

This was a great end to a fantastic series. Lana Melyan has written an outstanding series that truly does read like a Netflix series and keeps you desperate for the next instalment. With a great theme of good versus evil, brilliant characters that, even as an adult, I could easily connect to and a lot of built up excitement throughout.

This has been a great little series to read and has been amazing to be able to read them one after the other in this way, I have really enjoyed them!

This is the ninth and concluding ‘episode’ in the YA fantasy series from Lana Melyan. A really enjoyable series of short books with plenty of humour, romance, action and adventure. Primarily about witches (though with the odd vampire thrown in), I would recommend that you start from the beginning of the series. That way, by the time you get to this action-packed conclusion you will know the characters well and really care about their fate. A brilliantly executed conclusion to a fabulous series.

Not enough

I literally read all 9 of these books in one day and I can't believe there is no more, I fell in love with everyone but I did have a soft spot for logan I mean he's so sweet even though his ability is ment to scream bad guy, I just can't get enough of this series well written OK there was a few edit errors but I don't care about them I was too ingrossed in the book to even care

A brilliant read. Hard to put down. Nicky and Nate and friends have battled so much yet the biggest battle is ahead. Trapped, followed, injured, facing death, can they still go on? They’ve failed to kill Kenneth previously but eventually work out where he is going to carry out his promise and open the gates but can they get there in time and stop him? Lots of action, treachery and challenges but to my mind a finale worth waiting for.

Magic and mayhem to the very end.

Just finished reading all nine books in this series. Every book was exciting and unlike most the cliffhanger was so good you felt compelled to finish each book in the series. I rated them excellent because they kept my interest throughout. I recommend them to you all.

The call of blood by Lana Meylan.
This is book 9 in the weight of Magic series.
Omg absolutely brilliant. I loved this series. So sad it's the last one. Nicky and Nate and Logan, Connie have one last fight. They are my favourite characters. Really didn't want this to end. I would love to see this as a series on TV. 5*. Highly recommended.

Surprised

Well. I’m not sure where I read that this was a clean read, but it is a closed door read. For young readers this does have language. I’ll be honest, it you cut out the “and then they went up to their room” Senes we could cut out 4-5 books. Really, it happens that much. by book 4 I was rolling my eyes. I understand -they like each other.

Ok on to the review. There are spoilers. First, I did have some moral objections. The girls are 17 and just start their senior year. Within a day of turning 18 ( and still the first month of senior year) it’s ok to not only sleep with the 150 year old man, we have to known for 3 weeks. In fact her gran will encourage her to have weekends away with him- you know because we trust him. It’s just weird. Or that she just wants to drink a glass of wine by the fire… ummm she’s in 12th grade. What 12th grader does that….all the time? In fact they drink a lot. I feel like the author really wanted our character to be much older but for some reason chose a high school student. Maybe to fit the YA mold? But it made it kind ick. Even the magic was kind of a bummer. She has her first lesson, which is more about the guy than the magic and then we have the gem of reading she had about a dozen more lessons and she is as good as Nathan- the 150 year old. That’s it. That’s our magic lessons. I held tight and finished the series, because I knew there would be a twist. The best friend was really with Order or the ex-boyfriend was a spy… something. Nope. The fight that you read 9 (short) books for is just pages. It’s all predictable. No twist, no surprise ending. Just it. It does say if you like Vampire Diary’s you will like this. It is VERY similar to one of the seasons. Most of the magic works the same. They even have a bar in New Orleans. I was disappointed, but there are several positive reviews so perhaps it’s just not my cup of tea, but it was very predictable in my opinion and not a lot of story. I love characters that have have conversation but I don’t need to hear how “I can’t live without you” or “ I would die without you” over and over again. That’s obsession not care.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is Book (Episode) Nine (Final Episode) of The Weight of Magic series. This is a fast-paced, easy and short read, perfect for a quick jump into an exciting world of witches, high school, vampires, and danger. This novella series is an exciting ride with unexpected turns and twists; it's like a TV show in a book form. You're one click from starting your binge-read.

It's now or never; the Gates to the land of the dead is about to open. This is their last fight, their last attempt to put Kenneth down. Will she be able to fulfill her mission?
All she knows is that she is ready to use every bit of her magic to stop hell from breaking loose. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

The Call of Blood is book 9 in this series and for those who've been following it, our group of witches, immortals and a vampire are still trying to save the world from Evil.
The arch enemy of the Cain and Callahan families has been awoken from his 200 odd years sleep and he and his followers have only one thing in mind, open a Gate between the living and the dead and welcome back some of the most powerful Evil entities ever. Nicky not only has her usual friends at her side but also the support of others from some surprising places.
Melyan writes a good story of Good verses Evil, with characters who I found I could really connect to, who I worried about during the fights and hoped all would be well with them. I'll not say what happened, that would spoil everything but let's just say it wasn't short of action.
I've loved reading this series and I'm hoping we get to hear more from them all in the future.

A superb ending to this wonderful series of short stories. I have loved reading about Nate and Nicky and their fight to try and stop Kenneth regaining his powers.

On the journey they have gained new friends from the order and had to think on their feet to fight for survival. In this story you could feel the urgency building as they tried to locate Kenneth to stop him opening the gates to the dead.

I was hooked from the first few pages and flew through this final instalment as they prepare to come head to head and fight for survival. I can't wait for this series to be released in paperback so I can purchase for my daughter as she will love it!

Fabulous finale to a great series. Great to read how well friends come together. Sacrifices are made but the greater good and for the safety of the world.

Saving Nate has cost Nicki more than she could ever foresee but she doesn’t regret any of it. She is exactly where she needs to be and she is ready for the last fight.

These nine, quick read books take you on a whirlwind journey of love, hate, sacrifice and bonds that cannot be broken.

Recap: Nicky, Nate and their friends finally have their showdown.

Review: A solid ending to this mini-series. Connie's magical injury had my heart in my mouth but I really thought she would end up a vampire rather than an immortal, still at least she gets to stay with Logan. No main character deaths which is fine but would've added a bit more oomph to things. Nice touch with the parental farewell across the veil. I'm glad they won in the end.

Enjoyed this set

of books. I don't normally read books about witches and magic, nothing against the Author. It's just a thing with me. I download this set to see what it's all about. Must say it was a very good read. Young adult who didn't know she was a witch. Interesting, powerful, well written, adventures, lots of magic good and bad. Keeps you on your toes. But you can tell Nicky is young by her hot head & feelings. She learned eventually. Enjoy. Fun cute read.

This was the finale novella in this series and it didn't disappoint at all,i have loved all these small books through out and the ending was not how i thought which i love as it wasn't predictable at all.
There was plenty of action along with Nicky and Nate plus all the characters we have met previously plus a few new ones that were along for this ride and hope to finally end Kenneth before he was able to open the gates to hell.
There was plenty of action, intrigue and challenges to over come before they can get to where they are supposed to be.

The story was amazing

I read all 9 books in 2-3 days. It was that good. I'd recommend anyone who likes books with witches, immortals and vampires in them, also a great story for YA.

I'd originally picked this series up to try out the whole each book is like an episode of a TV series and it was a nice pace not dragged out like some series but not to fast paced either.

Wonderful Series

You will NOT REGRET reading this series. I read it in two days I couldn't wait until the next book. I would love for Lana Melyan to do others with spinoffs from some of the secondary characters in the group. One of those that you just don't want the story to end... Great READ !

The Call of Blood

First loved the story line the back and forth timeline kept it interesting. The characters were great it took a few books to get into full action but when it did it got good. Not sure why this series was spread out into 9 books could have done it in 3. Nonetheless it was a good read. Enjoy!

Amazing episodic series

I loved this series. Connie and Logan are captured in this one. Are they able to rescue them and find out where Kenneth plans to do the ritual? Are they able to stop him and his followers? Must read and find out.

Cute teen romance

It’s very much a “YA” series. The characters fall in love very quickly, and it’s a little cheesy, but there is action and adventure. All of the characters are pretty likable. Each episode is very short, so the series ends up being about the length of a trilogy.

Lots of magic

Enjoyed this series of books even though they were quite short, they got better the further you absorbed the story

Would recommend to anyone who likes magic and escapism.
